My wife and I quickly became fans of Saint Germain's Westside location because of it's excellent French pastries and coffee and beautiful atmosphere, and it's close to where we live. This cafe has been a great addition to the neighborhood.
This is the second Saint Germain location to open in Atlanta. It opened in July 2021 at The Interlock (https://bit.ly/3Xq9beO), across the street from Westside Provisions District. The first Saint Germain location opened in July 2016 at Ponce City Market. A third location opened in April 2022 at Buckhead Village. Ever since its opening in April 2021, we've come to The Interlock more often than I expected due to what's turned out to be a solid tenant mix. Saint Germain is the tenant we've visited the most.
This Saint Germain location is hidden from street view. You can see its storefront from inside The Interlock's parking deck, near the valet area. Parking is paid whether in the deck, on the street, or across the street at Westside Provisions. We've done all three when visiting Saint Germain.
Currently, there's a 2-hour minimum to park at The Interlock and it costs $8.45 (ParkMobile zone #3232). Saint Germain does not validate, unfortunately. Street parking and parking at Westside Provisions also have 2-hour minimums. Recently, I parked on 11th between Howell Mill and Brady. It cost $4.35 for 2 hours (Parking.com zone #51701). I also parked at Westside Provisions and it cost $5.10 (ParkMobile zone #225).
Saint Germain's space here looks gorgeous. It's got all the artistic and decorative elements of a charming, classic French cafe and patisserie, but in a modern-industrial setting. There's indoor and outdoor seating. The cafe's outdoor patio, situated within one of The Interlock's breezeways, is fully covered. Inside, the cafe opens up to The Interlock's upper level which has more seating, a second entrance for Puttshack, and the Bellyard hotel. Additionally, Saint Germain has a separate counter located inside the lobby of the hotel.
The layout and atmosphere are conducive to work/studying if you're looking for a good cafe for that. We've run into a Georgia Tech men's basketball player (my alma mater) and a Morehouse School of Medicine student (my wife's alma mater) studying here. Of course, this is also a great place to just come and relax and enjoy coffee and pastries, which is what we like to do.
Saint Germain's menu is constantly changing. I feel like almost every time we visit, the display case has something new and/or different. Items we like disappear, but are replaced by new items for us to discover. Below is a list of things we've tried so far. The only items that we've consistently ordered are the Lattes and Mochas.
Pastries and Sweets
* French Cheesecake ($7.50) - dulce de leche and berries
* Peach ($7.50) - honey and vanilla mousse on peach compote, with white chocolate shell
* Celeste ($7.50) - red velvet, white chocolate, ganache, fig
* Tropical ($7.50) - mango, coconut, banana, mousse with pineapple panna cotta
* Strawberry Heart ($7.50) - strawberry mousse and chocolate
Tarts
* Hazelnut Salted Caramel Tart ($7.50)
* Apricot Pistachio Tart ($7.25)
Pies
* Bourbon Pecan Pie ($29.00)
Coffee
* Latte ($6.00) with English Toffee (+$0.75) and Oat Milk (+$0.75)
* Mocha ($5.75) with Oat Milk (+$0.75)
Everything is presented magnificently. They've really got the presentation nailed down. The pastries look like works of art. Some almost don't even look like food; for example, check out my pictures of the blue Celeste and orange Tropical. Bright, bold, vivid colors - and they were yummy. In general, we've found the pastries to taste anywhere from good to great. We haven't had a bad thing yet.
Our favorites have been the French Cheesecake, Peach, and Hazelnut Salted Caramel Tart. The Peach was the most memorable to my wife. Overall, the pastries have been terrific quality, just really tasty all around. Their designs are unique and creative.
We ordered the Bourbon Pecan Pie to take to a gathering. It was a hit. I love pecan pie and Saint Germain's version is one of the best I've had. Perfect crust and filling, with a hint of bourbon. If you're a fan of pecan pie, you've got to try it.
The coffees taste fantastic. They're served with little squares of Saint Germain chocolate. A nice touch.
Service has mostly been fine. We've been served by Patrick and Anthony the most, and we've seen various other staff come in and help as well. This place can get hectic and busy. We once experienced poor service when they were understaffed. Our drink order was forgotten about. Unfortunate, but it happens. Also, for months (maybe even over a year?), they only had the phone number for the Ponce City Market location listed on their website. That was fixed sometime in winter 2022-23.
At checkout, sign up to receive Saint Germain loyalty rewards via Square stars (tied to a phone number). Earn 1 star for every $10 spent. At 10 stars ($100), you get 20% off your next purchase.
