On a recent Saturday, my friend and I decided to treat ourselves to brunch at Saints + Council. The restaurant exuded an intimate and classy ambiance, complemented by the soothing melodies of a live band.
From the moment we arrived, our waiter was kind and attentive, offering thoughtful recommendations that made us feel well taken care of. I opted for the Guatemala "El Volcan" House Coffee ($3), a medium brew with fruit notes. It arrived steaming hot!
For my breakfast choice, I went with the Berry Crunch Dutch Baby ($17). This oven-baked pancake was impressively large and beautifully presented, adorned with an abundance of strawberries, blueberries, blackberry compote, crunchy streusel, and a light dusting of powdered sugar. While I have a sweet tooth, I found the dish to be overwhelmingly sweet, which masked some of the flavors of the berries. Additionally, the seeds kept getting stuck between my teeth, making it a bit less enjoyable. Ultimately, I could only manage to eat half of it.
My friend chose the Crispy Chicken Dutch Baby ($21), which came topped with collard chips and hot honey maple syrup. She absolutely loved it, raving about the perfect balance of savory and sweet flavors.
While my sweet dish didn't quite hit the mark for me, I would give Saints + Council another try and explore some of its other offerings. It has a diverse menu and a cozy vibe, so I think it's a restaurant worth visiting again.
