Sake Bar Satsko

March 2026_One of the strangest dining experiences I have ever had. We were the only dining table around 7 pm, yet service was oddly slow. Our dishes came out with long gaps, and the chicken curry arrived incorrectly twice—first made with beef, then with rice mixed in despite our request for it on the side, and with only two small pieces of chicken in the entire bowl. Unfortunately, the experience got worse: later that evening both of us became sick. I wrote the owners privately at their email address and on Instagram to try to make them aware of the problems at their business, but they never responded resulting in my post here. Many better options available.

Love this little gem. We came right after they opened on a Monday and had the place to ourselves! Susan was great explaining food choices and chatting about sake choices. I love that you can eat small plates that come out quickly and perfect for sake nerds! I would come back all the time for these 2 dishes pictured. Amazing flavor and love the homemade pickles. The squid reminded me of squid jerky i wish i had some right now.

Such a fun time at a neighborhood gem of a hole-in-the-wall. Tons of sake to try, all excellent. Delicious small bites. Love the ambiance and music too. Perfect for a creative date night!

Knowledgeable staff, generous pours, and good food. Has outdoor seating and is luckily a block away from the dense loudness of East Village. You can take your time, enjoy your company, and learn about and enjoy your sake.

Really solid food and a really nice selection of sake. Food does take a bit to arrive, I would not recommend if you are in a rush. The curry rice is filling and flavorful. I'd recommend getting another snack while you wait, the squid and karaage are delicious and are great with sake.

It is a really small place but it’s a sake bar .. it’s a small cute bar with red ambience, I believe it’s red coz sake is originated from Japan and Japan has its red circle in the flag which symbolizes Japan.. had a sake bomb which is fun to have and loved it.. the bartender was really helpful in selecting the drinks and make our lives easy for a sake bomb.

What a cute little sake bar, I've had this on my list to go to for so long and disappointed I didn't go sooner. If you love sake this is the place to be, a great variety to choose from and paired with food menu i can hang here all night

TLDR: cozy Japanese bar Small place with limited seating. Good food and solid drinks. Not the most expansive menu but it does the trick. Would definitely come here again!

Small dark feel. The service was great, really great! Just came for a couple drinks and some appetizers. The tempura shishito peppers were a good snack, not spicy at all. One thing I did not like was the smell, but got over it quickly. Great place to stop and there was a wait, locals spot and locals feel.

Ikezo Jelly Sake Yuzu Flavored 9.79/10- this might just be the most unique drink I've ever tried. This was a yuzu flavored sake-based, sparkling drink with jelly-like texture. Quite similar to aloe Vera drinks, but like so much better just based off taste and consistency. It's almost like several small Jell-O shots mixed in with a cocktail that's very light and refreshing in flavor. The yuzu wasn't incredibly citrusy- but I actually loved this as it was a good balance to the jelly consistency and make for it to be very light and almost like a "dessert" in a way. This drink is like a delicacy in my opinion. They also have it in peach flavor. I wish it was over 5% ABV though, however thoroughly enjoyed This bar was a recommendation by a friend and I absolutely loved it. It's a small, cozy sake bar in East Village that is great for intimate groups. The service was immaculate and the list of sake is almost never-ending. Would love to come back again to try their actual sake.

This is my go to secret place where I can relax and enjoy good company. The owner, Amy, and other hosts really give u a personalized experience. Take it from someone who has been enjoying myself here for over 10 years but let's keep this place a secret.

Came here a few mins after they opened, so no issues with seating. Snagged the corner table by the window. Just had some sake and small bites - takoyaki and gyoza. Their gyoza was delicious! Very juicy and nicely fried. Overall a nice place to chill on an early evening. Will be back!

It was the perfect small seating had like for table of 2 plus like a bar area. Didnt try any food so can't comment. The staff was nice and service was good. Got the moon on water it was very good. Would recommend if you like sake!

The bartender was nice and the food was as well. My group had the squid jerky, octopus, and Tuna. All 3 were great dishes. The only issue is that it's a really small space.

Sake Bar Satsko is an edgy izakaya-style bar in the East Village serving premium sake and small plates. After starting with some really delicious glasses of sake we went for tuna tataki, Gyoza, and tuna don for dinner. The food is simple but good, and doesn't overshadow the main stars of the meal, the sake. Definitely worth checking out for some excellent sake

Food was decent as always . I got a tuna onigiri and my homie got a beef curry. The service tonight tho ngl threw me off. At the end when I made eye contact with the waitress who was chatting it up with two elderly people, the waitress passive aggressively said to me "are you in a rush?" "Oh they're in a rush." Laughing with whoever her friends were. Who tf says that. She already was taking forever bringing the check. Don't guilt trip your customers

Um...not sure what happened this past weekend, but service was bad! It's a shame bc the food and sake were decent. Came here with several friends and had a corner table, ordered a few appetizers and a couple bottles of sake. We put our app orders in at two different times, and being a busy night, it took about 30 minutes for the first round to come out. The fried squid "fries" were really good, a little like jerky, really tasty and interesting. The kura-age was basically popcorn chicken, bite-sized morsels freshly fried and crispy. When it came to the pulled pork bao I ordered, after 30 minutes there was no sign of them. Understanding it was busy we asked the server and he said they were being made and kitchen was a bit behind. 10 minutes later no word. My friend goes to ask the server again and he says that the order isn't ready but then also adds that it wasn't the pork bao on order but the vegetable one. Huh?? When I placed the order, I especially repeated my order and had him repeat it back to me bc the table next to us was very loud...we ended up cancelling the order bc they couldn't provide an actual time when the food would be ready. Beyond annoyed bc I hadn't had dinner and was super hangry waiting for those bao to come.

The place is cozy and the sake is great, but after the second time that I went and it smelled like toilet, I won't be going back. It's truly awful and certainly doesn't make you want to order the food.

You don't need to like sake to come here. Great vibes, really good food. The server made our experience so much fun! She guided us through sake bombs with such great energy!

Satsko is great for small intimate gatherings and drinks. They have an excellent selection of sake to try! I would not recommend their food. The service was okay.

I am new to sake and the bartender was really great in helping my friend and I find something we like! I tried the mountain mist, and it was so good! I'm now realizing that a great sake tastes almost like a cocktail and the mountain mist did not disappoint, it was sweet and fruity and smooth. We tried some food too; I tried the miso soup, the tofu curry rice, the foil mushrooms and the veggie buns. If was to order again I would order the exact same, minus the curry rice. It was a bit too saucy for me, I would like more rice, less curry. The veggie bun was for sure my favorite, it was savory, crunchy, soft, spicy, just all things you want it to be.

Great bar with a huge offering of sake. We came in after hitting D&C and another sakes bar to grab a few more drinks and snacks. I went with the Demon Slayer which was dry, fruity and a bit citrusy and paired well with the shishito tempura and the dried grilled squid (which was absurdly good). Service was attentive and the prices were very good for the quality of the drinks and food.

Dinner date with a client was here forth for Japanese Sake whom I drill one man's foodie tastes and depth for intensity substance of Asian culture. Unlike the original former Satsko at 245 Eldridge Street in LES, this location is primary a Sake Bar for the food portions are small resonating as tapas not entrees to substitute as a full meal. The owner is present who clicks away on the iPhone while her employees do all the serving, taking orders and cooking. The Gyoza, Shumai, Edamame, and Garlic shrimp were a delight. Absolutely NO sushi, NO sashimi, and the unorthodox brown rice is only available ergo, no traditional Asian WHITE rice. There are NO classic Japanese staples as Bento Box, Tonkatsu, no Tempura = ergo brings big disappoint. Atmospheric conditions are small that resembles a 70's lounge with no connection to Japanese culture for a true Japanese sake bar. It also contains a functioning nightclub colored disco ball, ergo utter unorthodox to the traditional subtle Japanese culture. Due to the size of this bar/restaurant I do not recommend Sake Bar Satsko for large groups. The bar tender do not portray himself as a sake master as he does not seem knowledgeable amid there is a decent selection of imported sake. For non-Asians, do not expect beer as they do not carry whereas my dinner event with a typical white man expose his ignorance to Asian culture. The bar area is small as the entrance door bang into my bar chair. There are no hooks for women to place their purses/bags underneath the bar. Sake Bar Satsko, a local sake bar Japanese tapas serving Alphabet City that brings great disappoint for lack thereof food options. Nothing like the original Satsko at 245 Eldridge Street in LES which was truly a full-service restaurant (now defunct). Below MEH.

We came here just before 6pm on a Wednesday for drinks before dinner. They don't make reservations for parties of 2, but luckily there was plenty of room when we got there. // Atmosphere This is a really cool spot. Very small, about 8-10 seats at the bar, and a few small tables along one wall. I can see how it would fill up quickly. Nice, laid-back, hipster vibe. // Service The bartender was great - very friendly and accommodating. He taught us a few things about sake and gave us some good recommendations as well. // Sake We tried 4 types of sake here. We first ordered two junmai: asabiraki suijin "god of water" and the kariho namahage junmai "devil's mask", both delicious but we both preferred the god of water and it's strong rice flavor. Next we had daiginjo: dewazakura oka "cherry bouquet" and koshi no kanbai sai "blue river". Again, both were delicious and worth getting, but we preferred the oka/cherry. // Food We were saving room for dinner so we only tried one dish, the tako wasa, which is octopus with wasabi. It was delicious and just what we were looking for - very flavorful but not too filling. I'd definitely get it again next time we come.

I have nothing but fantastic things to say about this place. Our party of 3 decided on doing it "family style" and grab a total of 6 dishes for us all to share. The standouts were the shishito peppers, tuna tataki, goyza and pork buns. The shishito peppers were a take on them that we've never tried before, the tuna was fresh and came with a delicious salad underneath, the goyza was just so tasty and the pork buns were bursting with flavor and had the softest most amazing bun. Our server was also super cool and gave great sake recommendations! Overall such a lovely experience w my friends and for the prices you just cannot beat this quality of food

Ugh. The female working when I went was amazing, so it's hard for me to rate this place so low bc she was literally the best. So basically, this review has nothing to do with service and is all about the food. I spent $60 for food that just tasted like it was frozen and heated up. Nothing makes me more upset than spending good money on a sub-par meal, which I'm sure many people could relate to. I had different kinds of dumplings and shumai, and it honestly just tasted like store bought frozen food, which is such a let down. I don't recommend this place food wise, but it could be cool if you wanna do sake bombing and have some great servers that will most likely do one with you!

I cant remember what happened, all I know is that this place has a good selection of sake and imports. Enough said, now go get some sake bombs.

Again Yelp strikes out by not letting patrons check things like "reservations" or "loudness." This time they missed with "good for groups." The place is TINY! 3 tables! It's good for A group, possibly, but for groups??? Maybe of goldfish. The portions are small. And that's all the negatives I've got. Otherwise it's terrific! Super friendly ambiance, excellent sake choice, food is delicious. The tacowasa (wasabi octopus) was worth ordering 2... for one person. The shumai was also terrific. The waitress/bartender was incredibly accommodating, adding extra blocks between benches and tables to help shoehorn our group of 9 into the very limited space. Come with a couple friends. This would be a lovely divey neighborhood izakaya to hang out at if service wasn't so negligent during busy times. We came Saturday at 7 pm, and the bar was pretty much packed. Unfortunately, there was only one bartender/server and one chef. We ordered five different dishes which took nearly 3 hours to all come out. In fact, they forgot about our last two dishes and we needed to remind them about it. The bartender was also very inattentive and did not give us water, and we had to ask twice to be served water. And of course, it wasn't refilled quickly enough. But he was great at asking us if we wanted more sake. Foil baked mushrooms - pretty tasty with enoki and beech mushrooms. I was honestly expecting a more hearty mushroom like shiitake or maitake, but this was fine. tuna tataki - sesame crusted seared tuna, it was not bad. tuna don - this had the same sesame crusted tuna as the tuna tataki, as well as a tuna mayo mix. (For some reason, they forgot to serve us this dish even though the tuna was prepared in the exact same way. Stupid and inefficient and ridiculous.) korean style bbq - The lettuce was fresh, the meat was pretty tasty although rather hastily chopped, so some pieces were appropriately bite-sized but others were overly large. dried grilled squid - a unique dish that looked and tasted like squid french fries with a soy/chili mayo dipping sauce. The food was not bad, and the sake menu is extensive with very educational descriptions, but unfortunately they don't quite have their service shit together and I would not advise coming here during peak hours.

VERY small bar with an interesting decor & with Walls covered in Polaroids! You can ask the bartender if you want a Polaroid taken of you and you can keep it! We took so many because the bartender was nice, oops It's more of a low key chill place where you can catch up with a few friends over awesome music! The alcohol? Sake, Soju, and beer which also means you can sake bomb the night away ---infused sake for $10 served in a square bowl: Wish I was a sake fan I'm sure I would've enjoyed it! They also offer food but I've only ordered one snack ---grilled squid: yummy, love the tentacles

This place is the best sake bar I have ever visited in New York City. I have been to over a three dozen sake bars in the metropolitan area and this clearly blows the competition away. The chicken and the curry rice were made to perfection. The sake blew me my socks off! The service was like that of a upscale restaurant. All attentive and ready to do what was necessary. Love this place. If in nyc it's a must go

Hands down best camp on the Playa. Came here with a couple friends for a drink, Satsko delivered. Make sure to ask for Evan as you're waitress, she's a doll. Also, they have chairs.

Trust me fries are better tuna don - pan seared tuna with sesame and rice shouldn't have taken 2 hours to come out, right? bbq korean beef - tasty, but nothing out of the ordinary My bad review is for the service of the place. To summarize, this place is great to come to for a snack, or for sake only, with light food options to chase the alcohol. Also, this place is appropriately titled as "sake bar." It's a good place for sake, not a good place for dining. There's only one chef working at peak hour, no physical space for another chef to cram in anyway. So let's set the proper expectations for what this place is, lest people wanting to have a full meal here (which was the "mistake" my friend and I made. It took 2 hours for food to all arrive and waiter forgot about two items!)

Great selection of sake. Grilled shrimp was good and paired well with the Tenbu sake. Tuna tartare with cucumber was ok. Prices average about $14+ for glass of sake. Good place for sake drinkers.

What an incredibly fun place! Great staff including Tony who is forever 21. The food is absolutely delicious, healthy, affordable and fun. The sake and other drink menu is outstanding. It seems like everyone in the place is having a good time together. One table talks to the others. It's like a very cool, fun party with good drinks and delicious healthy food.

Very small and divey izakaya. Food is a bit pricey -- i recommend not going for dinner but just to snack on after you've hit a couple other places later in the night. It doesn't seem very Japanese but I don't mind, I think it has the right feel for an izakaya. They have great sake selections. If you need to fill up, make sure to get some of their rice dishes or your wallet will really hurt! Satsko isn't a place I'd travel to go to, but if you're in the area for other types of fun it is a good pit stop.

I was there at 7:15pm on Tuesday 1/21/2020. I walked out of a place I used to like. The music was disgusting. I asked the bartender to skip the song and he made a "snide" comment to his "friend" that I asked to skip the song. Lyrics "about" Ni**ags" f'n b,s, and various other inappropriate words at a dining establishment that I found completely offensive. I had ordered food. I paid for the drink I had and bounced. I'm still fuming. There was a 4 or 5 year old kid there. I'm never going there again. I've lived in the neighborhood since 1999 and never been so appalled. I really liked this place. I listen to music, I used to write music and I couldn't block it out. It was disgusting. 7 people were there. It's really small. I'm guessing the next song on the playlist would not have been much better.

What a cute, comfy little spot! I was their first PayPal-er ever, so the friendly staff was beyond tickled pink to fulfill my to-go order. It was very chill here on an early Saturday evening with just 2 other girls hanging out here. Shumai ($8.71): 5 very delicious pieces, each topped with a cute baby shrimp. Watch out for that yellow sauce though - it's wasabi, not mustard!! Yowww!!!! And FYI, the to-go soy sauce container leaks. ***The current PayPal offer is only for $10 off a minimum purchase of $25. For good, cheap Chinese food, you're much better off heading to Chinatown. But for a very chill, laidback place with such sweet staff, this place is a good pick!

Satsko is a place for good loud times. very small, and sometimes sticky, but still laidback and fun. The ambiance was louder than expected, but still enjoyable. Great service; I'd take your servers recommendation like I did; "Drunken Whale" was unquestionable the best of the night- smooth and "bone dry" Ideal for a group of old friends looking to get Rowdy!

Overall: location may seem faraway if you're not living in the neighborhood, but I enjoyed the intimate experience. The place is small, well decorated, and due to the size, not that many people which created a nice atmosphere to talk with my friend and receive friendly service from the staff. Things I liked: - The candle holders--happy to see that there was a candle holder decorated with the Japanese manga character Kitaro - Sake and food (chicken karaage and tuna tartar) with the mood, great playlist of songs, and comfortable seating - Staff were friendly and patient even though we have been talking for a very long time--other bars would have shoved the bill to us to get us out even if there were no guests waiting outside. Things I thought were meh: - Pulled pork bun--it was okay. Tuna tartar was much better.

This spot rocks. I have been twice, once with my mom and once with friends, and it was killer both times. The bartender knew his stuff and made very personalized recommendations for drinks and food and he nailed it. I wish I took pics because their presentation is on point. The mushrooms are a must. Pro tip, get a side of rice to pour the extra sauce on, you'll want every drop of it. The rolls were so delicious we put in a second order immediately after tasting the first. The music was great, the bartender really read the room, and not too loud. The place is very small and intimate, so be ready to make friends with your neighbor. The only draw back is it's limited seating so get there early or be ready to wait. But the wait is worth it!

Felt neglected since the place was busy and the table next to me had at least 3 dishes delivered before my curry was served. I guess folks have their priorities but sucks when I tried to cancel, they insisted it was almost ready (when it definitely wasn't)

I love this bar. Lu is the coolest, the drinks are the best sakes, and it's the perfect date spot. I don't want anybody coming here as it is my precious neighborhood gem. Please stay away.

I've lived very close to this place for a few years but went in for the first time this weekend. It's tucked in the side of 7th Street so it's not always top of mind, but I have been missing out. The food was excellent. We ordered the Korean beef, gyoza, spicy tuna onigiri and squid jerky. All dishes were good, but the jerky was amazing and unlike anything I've ever had. When I go back, I'll try the pork buns and octopus, which is what the table next to us ordered and it looked great. The sake menu is not extensive but has plenty of options to suit whatever you're in the mood for. The place is small, really small. Only 4 tables and some seats at the bar and they don't take reservations for groups of 3 or less so you may have to wait, but definitely worth it.

Let's start with The Good: The sake selection/pricing was bearable. And.... and.. and that's it. The Bad: From first glance, one can see the menu is striving for pan-asian. This should scream "GTFOH!!!" to you right off the bat. No other genre of food is more consistently terrible than this disgusting pest I like to call the "Pan-Asian Disease" which began infesting our major cities the past 15 years or so... WHY IS THIS CRAP STILL AROUND?? It's worse than herpes! How can you do any one thing well if you try to do everything under the freakin sun? The shit literally hurts my eyes when I see it. (i mean, once in a while, i get surprised and a pan asian place puts out decent food but this is the rarer-than-unicorns exception to the rule that pan asian is just one step above Donkey Poo and one below Shoe) And the proprietors (i don't know who they are) are completely unfamiliar with Japanese food... all asian food for that matter. Their ineptitude in adequately developing asian flavor profiles is borderline criminal. Fine, I get it.. it's eclectic... but WHATEVER ("W" fingers - ENGAGED). My biggest qualm, aside from the great liberties they take with "asian" dishes, is that it is overpriced to the point of retardation, as in.. you have to retarded to pay what they charge. Examples (note that all portions are small even for japanese "tapas" portions"): 15 dollar tuna tartar? 8 dollar shumai?! 9 dollar gyoza?!?! Are you on CRACK? Well, I apparently was, because I paid it.. hahah.. I had time to kill and I wanted to snack and drink some sake so I stopped in. I expected bad and it was unsurprisingly so. I ordered far less than I had originally planned to, got the check as quickly as possible, and just fled this faux asian house of horrors as fast and as far as my little yellow feet could take me.

The charming owner managed to capture the same vibe and even life style. The owner is present, works very hard, does all of the cooking, comes out and greets everyone not just the customers but people in the neighborhood stop it to speak to her and do not even eat. She comes out and hugs all of the neighbors. She is like the neighborhood Japanese mom! It is rare to find an owner at their own restaurant these days. The bar tender is a unique New York character as well with a full head of hair and no beard! In other words no CLONE costume. These people are themselves, not clones. I bring this up because many of the beardos look like cancer patients (I am not making fun of cancer patients as I have been one) but really if you are in your 20's or 30's and do not have hair you look sick not cool. Then to add nasty facial hair. ...I am not into clones. The bar tender is his own person and warm and friendly. It was cute he said the owner Satsko is his fake mom. So cute. It's like the theme song from the old TV show Cheers ,"where everybody knows your name". You walk in and you are family or at least a guest and you will want to become a regular. The space is cozy not cramped and we were there early then people started the trickle in. Nobody there had attitudes nobody there was pretentious. The reviewer who was first to review mentioned the seating that it was comfy. That is important to me right now. I also think restaurants are disrespectful when they have dirty uncomfortable cold restaurants. Sake Bar Satsko is warm, inviting and cozy in every way. They are open until 4am. It is hard to be on your feet until 4am yet they are still warm and friendly. It is not the type of place you go to so you can sit there thinking to yourself I am so cool to be here! No it is such a real place such a charming place! Now those of you who know I don't drink might wonder why did you go here since you do not drink? I was in the neighborhood and I wanted to try it being in the area and having seen it on Yelp. The bar tender was so nice not offering any attitude as to why I dont drink and what am I doing at a bar? No he offered me soda or Pom Pomegranate juice. A health drink. So I had a Pom I was happy! The owner Satsko cooks the food herself and explained to us that she marries the cooking with the neighborhood. There was something on the on line menu that she no longer has because she said nobody ever ordered it. IMO White Americans have an infatuation with spicy tuna because they do not have a sensitive palate. Their taste buds are like their entertainment they just want to be entertained, to feel alive. Many are not in touch with their feelings meditation is not a part of the American culture. So they want their food experiences to be entertainment and to keep them from feeling bored. When you eat Spicy tuna you are not experiencing Japanese cuisine or culture, Just raw fish. Japanese cuisine isn't about that. (neither am I) So she has to offer spicy tuna because that is what the neighborhood wants. But she made my Tekka with no added nonsense or spice. But since it is a Sake bar you go here to drink mainly and I can't comment on that since I don't drink. I actually only read the first to review. I go to a lot of izakayas in NYC and this one is one of the few in NYC with a true izakaya spirit. Went there on a sunday evening when I had a craving for goos sake. And all customers seem to be local regulars and were all sitting at the bar chatting with the waitor. A tiny place with a good selection sake, foods are all simple but delicious. This is the kinda of place for a good conversation. If you dont want to put too many thoughts into what food is good, this is the right place for you: basically all simple izakaya food but you cannot go wrong. If you want to impress a new date, maybe not the right place. But if you come with someone intimate and kick back with a nice bottle of sake and good conversation - i definitely recommend.

OMG! I can't believe I am the FIRST person yelping about Satskos!!! Let me say it is both a pleasure and an honor to make Satsko's my 50th review and my 10th first! It's a celebration! And that is, in fact, exactly what you do at Satsko's--Celebrate! My friend brought a round table of about 20 of us together to basically take over Satsko's tiny room. There's only enough seating for about 15 in the place, so we just wilded out! There's bar chillin, but I prefer the cute little raised tables with benches that are covered in throw pillows. It's cozy and you can create a real fun and intimate party vibe. The food is really inventive Japanese and not at all traditional. Lots of fun plates that can be shared and plenty of options for meat lovers and veggos alike. Definitely check the specials menu cuz there's always something fun to try! The best thing here though, is the sake. Duh! We went to town on these big ass bottles of sake that were so choice. I mean, I know there's shitty sake, but now I really know, cuz this stuff is primo! Get the Shochikubai Nigori Sake -(Unfiltered). They call it "Crazy Milk!" nuff said....And if you're feeling in the party mood, don't leave without doing a Satsko Sake Bomb! MMMMkay?
