The Best Restaurants in the Irish Channel | Eater New Orleans

"Sake Cafe II is a spin off from the original Uptown location, featuring creative cooked dishes like lemongrass goat cheese gyoza and baked salmon with snow crab. Sit at the sushi bar for a steady stream of sashimi and tekka maki rolls. Try a specialty like the tuna, thinly sliced and drizzled with chili sauce and masago. Sake Cafe offers an amazing happy hour, with half-price nibbles and drinks from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily." - Eater Staff

Where to Drink the Best Martinis in New Orleans | Eater New Orleans

"For those who like flavored martinis, Sake Café on Magazine Street has a colorful martini menu that includes favorites like the lycheetini, French martini, and lemon drop. Added bonus: all drinks are half off during their daily happy hour between 3 and 6 p.m. This menu is not for the purists, so those who argue that flavored vodka poured in a martini glass does not meet the requirements of an adequate martini have been warned to look away." - Adriana Lopez

I came in to place a to go order and the place was swamped with people picking up or trying to eat. Nick was very sweet and attentive to everyone, he offered me water after I was waiting for a few. The food ended up being delicious as well. Definitely will come back to try again!

Google
Sushi happy hour! During the week for early lunch, you can get essentially a sushi, happy hour… Prices were much lower than normal on many of their small rolls. They have a lot of large rolls too. The service was nice but a little inconsistent. At some point we had to try to find our waitress to get our tickets so we could leave.

Google
Gotta be one of the worst experiences dining there. Whatever you do, do not look up at the sprinkler pipes running along the ceiling. You’ll see all of the glue boards to catch the rats that use these pipes as their interstate. The floors were filthy and sticky up by the bar. Our waitress was HORRIBLE. She brought my appetizer out 15 minutes AFTER my sushi roll came out. I asked for a fork to eat my roll and waited so long the manager came over to ask if everything was ok. The food itself was sub par at best. There are WAY better places to get sushi in the area. I definitely won’t be back.

Google
I come here every week with my family, the service is good, the restaurant is beautiful, I like here 🫶🏻

Google
I visited this restaurant today for the second time!! The first time was during the week with my co workers, it was good. Today I ordered the Shrimp Wonton, both were burned or re fried it was terrible. The man at the front counter could barely understand english. I will never eat here again.

Google

Google
we’ve been to sake many times but it’s been a while so decided to try it out for lunch. we ordered the shrimp tempura bento box and sushi. the service was average but the timing was quick. the bento box was large and contained a lot of items including soup, salad with ginger dressing, fried rice, california roll, fresh fruit, and shrimp and vegetable tempura. there’s a lot of food and it was good flavor overall a good lunch option with lots of options

Google
Coming here for the first time and it was an experience. Here with a group and the server was awesome in keeping track of everyone’s order as well as getting food and drinks to every one. I had the edamame and vegetable tempura and was satisfied with the portions. It made a meal worthwhile. The atmosphere is cozy no super dark and the sashimi bar looked pretty awesome. I would definitely recommend this place. And I will be back in the future.

Yelp
Lots of food for a decent price. Polite and fast service and a nice place to eat when you want a decently priced meal with some friends. Been going there for years.

Yelp
A bit disappointed with the lack of quality ingredients at this cafe, , we were tempted by the happy hour items, so we chose edamame, calamari, crab sticks and avocado rolls but I also chose the regular offering of Dragon Roll (Eel & Avocado) and had difficulty identifying the eel, it was loaded with avocado fillers with itty bitty remnants of eel. left feeling they were stretching the quality of food for the price performance. I would not recommend the Sake Cafe on today's performance.

Yelp
Nick was the best server ever! He ate that! Such great service 10 out of 10 would recommend. Metairie location!

Yelp
I've dined at this location at least a dozen times. Food is consistently good and it's priced right! 3 rolls and soup or salad is $16. A bottle of Oyster Bay or Joel Gott Sauvignon Blanc is $30 or less ( $9- $10 per glass.) Not a fan of sashimi or rolls? No worries, there's several cooked food items like salmon teriyaki, crispy honey chicken, chicken katsu and chicken fried rice too. Lunch specials are offered daily until 3p. My favorite entree during lunch is a bento box or 2 roll meal with clear soup. I've rarely dined during Happy Hour but it's priced more competitively than Kona Grill IMO. In terms of its location, it's nestled towards the rear of a strip mall with other businesses with ample parking. Close to shopping malls, grocery stores and I-10.The interior is reminiscent of most Jaoanese restaurants There's a sushi bar, ten plus booths that comfortably seat four adults and a number of tables. There's also a private room for gatherings. Service is always four stars are better. Attentive, welcoming and anticipatory.

Yelp
Easy parking, quick friendly service. Nice atmosphere. Enjoyed the food. We have the sushi and it was prepared just right

Yelp
I've been a fan of Sake for years and my visit tonight kept my love alive. It was happy hour and the food was delicious. We had fried calamari, edamame, gyoza, snow crab rolls and 9 pieces of tuna and salmon sushi and our bill was $30! I just feel like this is one of the best dinner deals in town. I'll be back again and again

Miranda S.

Yelp
I used to come to Sake pretty consistently for their happy hour menu. Haven't been in a while, but I came back and it was just as I remember! The service is still pretty fast and the ambiance is good for a quick, casual sushi lunch. I think you get your money's worth with the lunch menu and definitely for the happy hour menu! Perfect if you are looking for a cheaper sushi spot!! **happy hour is 3pm - 6pm daily and has discounted (it might be half off but I'm not 100% sure) selected appetizers, sushi by the piece, and basic rolls.

Yelp
We came here about 1 minute before happy hour. We were greeted and seated right away. The decor is beautiful, I really loved the architecture inside. Very relaxing and soothing feel. The waitress handed us the lunch special. But we asked for the happy hour menu, and it seemed like she didn't want to give us the happy hour menu. The expression on her face seemed to go from smile to aggravation, but maybe I misread? I arsed the others dining with me, and they all noticed a difference in her demeanor. She brought us the happy hour menu and seemed a little cherries than before. And we placed our orders. I have eaten sushi throughout the city, and although this sushi wasn't the worst. It wasn't the best. It seemed like the sushi was made with the bare amount of effort.. nothing really special. I have a feeling it might be because we asked for the happy hour special pricing as opposed to the lunch special. Or maybe they just have mediocre sushi. It was our first time dinner here, and we ate here a few months ago. I would probably come back for the ambiance and the drinks. But not gor the food.

Yelp
Have been coming here for years and recently have gotten a full roll of avacado when ordering California rolls.

Yelp
Our waitress Jenny Yu was AMAZING! Took great care of us! Will definitely be back to see her! Everyone ask for Jenny

Yelp
Popped in for lunch after an appointment nearby and it was such a great deal! Miso soup and 2 rolls for about 10 bucks. Food came out quickly and service was prompt. Would definitely return if in the area.

Yelp
Japanese food that hits the spot. It's difficult comparing to the high quality Japanese food in Hawai'i that I grew up with but it's a great option when I have a craving for it! The bento box is definitely worth the price for the amount of food you get. The sushi is alright. My favorite is the tempura. You get shrimp and a great selection of veggies! The food options that remind me of home are limited but I'm excited to have Sake Cafe near by.

Yelp
Ordered the Gyoza and it was very delicious and cooked perfectly. This was my very time trying this restaurant. I worked literally right next door. I'm not a fan of sushi so I was very happy when my coworker told me they had potstickers!!!! The atmosphere was so inviting. Very good for a date night or even just drinks with your friends. The staff was friendly and courteous.

Lily H.

Yelp
Food was really mid. The service was good and the ambience was fine, but the sushi did not taste fresh and there were no ingredients of the rolls on the menu.
google avatar

Maeve G.

Yelp
Sake is probably my go to for sushi in the area. It's just good food. It's always consistently good quality. It's nothing amazing but I can always guarantee that I'll leave full and happy. Plus the sushi happy hour is always great! I did get hot food this time as well, and it's also consistently good. Service varies from shift to shift, but I've never had particularly bad service. They did mess up our order though this time.
google avatar

Tajah J.

Yelp
The food is really good, always is every time I go! But I will say that the waitress constantly rushing you to hurry up an order, or to hurry up and eat so they can snatch the plates from underneath you is really annoying. My butt had not even made it to the chair yet before she was asking me what I wanted to drink. She came to our table 4 times in a 10 minute period to ask what we wanted to order. Finally I just asked for a to go plate because she was not allowing me to pace myself and eat. I can see if it was busy, but it was 430 on Monday afternoon, and there were literally only four other couples in the entire restaurant. It really made for a lousy early dinner.
google avatar

Cassie M.

Yelp
Best happy hour in Metairie! $3 wines by the glass, sake and beer specials. So many appetizer, nigiri, and sushi roll options! You can't go wrong.
google avatar

Elenora B.

Yelp
Sake Cafe is one of my favorite sushi places! I've been going here for years and it's always consistent and excellent quality. I went for lunch last week and my experience was great per usual. I ordered the assorted roll lunch which comes with 2 rolls of my choosing from the list and a soup or salad. I got the salmon avocado roll, crunchy roll, and the garden salad. All were delicious, especially the crunchy roll. Their salmon is always so fresh and their ginger dressing on their garden salad is my favorite! It's hard to find good quality sushi for cheap nowadays, but I will always go back to Sake when I am in the mood for good quality, cheap prices, and great service!
google avatar

Amanda K.

Yelp
Unfortunately, our family had a negative lunch experience today at Sake and as a result, we won't be returning in the future. We arrived at 12:20, but luckily there wasn't a long wait and we were quickly seated. We ordered our meal, along with a bottle beer and Sake while waiting for our order to come out. We waited.. and waited.. and waited. People came in after us, were seated and we watched table after table receive their food before us. After a 30 minute wait, we decided to leave without eating and ended up going to another restaurant. It's been a while since I've last been to Sake, but things seem to have taken a turn for the worse as far as service goes. There's a lot of sushi options in Metairie, so we definitely won't be giving this restaurant our business in the future.

Yelp
I have been coming to this restaurant for years, and it truly never misses for me. I always get the assorted roll dinner, which comes with a soup, salad, and choice of three sushi rolls for $14.95. You cannot beat the price, and the rolls tonight were huge! The spicy tuna was very fresh, and the snow crab roll had a very generous portion. I always ask for spicy Mayo and eel sauce on the side with my sushi, and our waitress brought out a couple of sauces for our table. The Who Dat Appetizer, snow crab wrapped in seaweed and tempura fried topped with spicy Mayo and eel, was absolutely divine! I highly recommend this appetizer. Great service and food at Saké Café on Veterans Boulevard in Metairie!

Yelp
I used to love this place as a kid and teenager. Whatever new management they are under is not doing their job. Every time I come here it gets worse and worse. they so have a good, inexpensive lunch items, but I would almost rather pay more than have to eat soggy rolls and tasteless miso soup.
google avatar

Katie S.

Yelp
This is our favorite! We come here weekly. They have an amazing happy hour daily from 3p-6p. They have the best clear soup and gyoza. The crab sticks are always a must.
google avatar

Michelle Q.

Yelp
The Hawaii Roll is sooo yummy! It's tuna topped with snow crab and mango. I always order a crunchy roll. They have the best in the city! Their snow crab salad was delicious. It's a generous portion. I love the avocado that comes with it on the side. The service was amazing. The food came out pretty quickly.

Yelp
Good sushi. I ordered the sashimi deluxe and got very small cuts of fish though. They have consistently been small so I don't think I will get it again. I've seen that most of the cuts have gotten smaller with the new owners (the husband is a sushi chef there and of couse makes those decisions). I usually sit in the bar area and also wish the owners and bartender would help to control some of the loud cursing that happens there on occasion with some regulars. I have actually just closed and left when it starts up.

Jerry J.

Yelp
The food was ok, but the restaurant attempted to charge me 3% as an add on for a credit card charge. I was paying cash. The waitress attempted to disregard my request for a new check, and I insisted. After she gave me a new check, I paid with a $100. bill. She brought me my change which I inspected, and I realized that I was short $15. After complaining and asking another employee to verify I was correct, she then brought me the correct amount of change including 20 dimes instead of 2 one dollar bills. I demanded that she give me bills. Management then got involved and demanded I leave the restaurant, and the owner emerged and told me he was calling the sheriff's dept to have me cited.... I told him I would wait to be cited. First I had an unauthorized charge of $1.77, then they attempted to shortchange me $15., and lastly they played a game with the dimes. Obviously I will not return .

Yelp
I went midway during Happy Hour on a Saturday. It wasn't too busy which was a plus. The Male host took me to my seat; the woman remained at the desk. She wasn't rude persky, but not friendly either. I sat in a booth, ordered a few pieces of nigiri (priced by the piece) and reviewed the specialty rolls menu. I came for sushi so I cant comment on the grill items. I selected the Clearview roll (unfried) and the Jazz roll. Both were tasty but I liked the Jazz roll best. Salmon and unagi? All day. Rolls were good but a little pricey for me at 14.95 each. My server was helpful and checked on me periodically but did one of my restaurant pet peeves: he gave me the check before verifying that I was finished. I was considering a small roll but when he stopped by with the check, I made up my mind: nope, let's roll out. As I left the hosts looked at me silently, no "have a good night" , nothing ha! That sealed it for me. Overall, a decent experience but doubt I'll return.

Matt H.

Yelp
Been a customer for almost 20 years but have noticed a decline over the last several years(Covid notwithstanding). Food is fine, but at least their rolls seem to have shrunk and the last few times I've gone have been primarily rice.... I don't mind paying a little more not to sacrifice quality, but there are better options with more value in the vicinity imo...
google avatar

Ashleigh J.

Yelp
If you're looking for good sushi with a friendly atmosphere and a GREAT happy hour, COME HERE!! I've come here weekly for years. I've had every special roll on the menu, but they will make anything you want. My sister is vegan, they made her a custom roll for her diet. I've never had a bad experience.

Paige B.

Yelp
DO NOT RECOMMEND! Our waitress barely knew English and had to come back multiple times to make sure she had our order right. We ordered the blacked tuna and it came out to us in tuna cubes with a sprinkle of black pepper, covered in oil and what was supposed to be teriyaki, but tasted like bbq sauce. Topped with raw onions and green bell peppers, my fiancé said it tasted like cat food. The Kani salad was super dry; I had to ask for spicy Mayo and eel sauce. My LSU roll was good, but my fiancé's cowboy roll tasted like dog food. I rarely ever complain about food or service, but this was just plain nasty.
google avatar

Irethea T.

Yelp
Best pad Thai in the city, fresh sushi, and the fried rice could've been fried a little harder, it still tasted good. The avocado roll was, really good very fresh.
google avatar

Kylia H.

Yelp
I've been coming here for years. Has the most consistent service and quality for sushi in the New Orleans area. Decent happy hour menus. I go to all the locations depending on where I am when the hunger for sushi bites.
google avatar

Sarah B.

Yelp
I used to love the sushi here however due to their service I'm starting to not like it. I ordered tonight and they forgot my roll and I had to coke all the way back to get it and they offered nothing for the trouble of their mistake. Bad customer service, good food
google avatar

Jessica D.

Yelp
This is a great spot for a quick lunch. I've been here many times for lunch, and the prices are very reasonable. The service is always great too. For dinner, the sushi does not live up to the pricing. My husband and I purchased the rainbow roll ($15)and lsu roll ($11). Both were very small with thinly sliced pieces of fish on top. However, the fried rolls here are melt-in-your-mouth awesome, if only a little small. The tempura batter for shrimp and veggie tempura are light as air. The ambiance here is very relaxing and even a little romantic. That almost makes up for the tiny rolls.

Yelp
Great service if your looking for a casual place to eat . Easy access plenty of parking

Yelp
The tuna is bomb!! Nice stuff and fancy plates . Super nice and classic sushi house I would recommend. This location is my favorite one nowhere else .

Wendy O.

Yelp
I lived in Japan for several years and even before that have eaten sushi for 20yrs. Am visiting to watch the Zurich Classic and found this place. We couldn't be happier with the dinner sushi was really fresh, nice size portions, I couldn't wait to eat and took photo after ate half ;). You wont be disappointed eating here. I had house salad w yummy ginger dressing and miso soup.

Kennidy S.

Yelp
Absolutely love this Sake Cafe location. I come here often for happy hour. I get a different server just about every time, and they've always been friendly, efficient, and attentive. The Mai Tais are made strong (just the way i like them!) , sushi always hits the spot, and the atmosphere is nice and calm and welcoming. I included the pictures of the Love Boat for 2 that we ordered last time. About 40 pieces of a variety of different sushi for $42. So delicious!! I'd always recommend this location!
google avatar

Cree C.

Yelp
Sake Cafe has the best sushi I have ever eaten in kenner. The volcano roll is so good and fresh. We had amazing service that was very attentive. The mood and atmosphere is perfect for date night or even just to hang out with your friends. There was also happy hour happening at the time i went which was a pleasant surprise. Some sushi rolls were 2.99 and perfect for fillers in between big rolls. The only thing I regret trying was the Heart attack roll lol. As a person who doesnt like creamy sushi. The cream cheese (or mayo(?) )that was in it was a little too much for me. My friend however liked it so i guess it just really comes down to preference.
google avatar

Rebakah Y.

Yelp
I came here with my boyfriend. As a person allergic to seafood, the vegetable sushi is pretty good to me. The advocate is fresh and snow crabs looks great too! Will come here again

Luis G M.

Yelp
I had two of the special rolls. Dragon roll and the volcano roll. The total was about 31 dollars. The taste was not as good as some of the other sushi places. The inside of the place looks nice, but I will probably not be ordering again.
google avatar

Destiny C.

Yelp
Service here was amazing! Thank you so much Sophia and Stephanie for all of the recommendations they offered! Everything was tasty and we will be back soon.
google avatar

Meredith F.

Yelp
Always consistent and staff is always helpful. Sushi always tastes fresh and my order is ALWAYS correct!

Kane D.

Yelp
Didn't leave for 2 hours. Might still here if you come. I need more characters to post. Don't come if you don't have a full work day of time

Susan G.

Yelp
Just not that good. Only two shrimp on the Shrimp Bento? I'm sure it was three or four in the past. That's just cheap.
google avatar

Alissyn H.

Yelp
For many years this has been my habitual sushi spot. The ambiance is breathtaking and rich with wood element. Open and spacious. All of the sushi ( over the years I've eaten my way thru most of the sushi menu) is usually quite on point. The cooked dishes are quite remarkable and the gyoza is a must have! Service is friendly and accommodating if, at times, a little slow and under staffed these days it seems. We keep showing them love because they keep delivering a solid product. I always feel relaxed in here and leave quite satisfied. To Go or Dine in, for me since 2003, they have yet to disappoint! And my hubby LOVES sushi night at Sake Cafe! Yum yummy yummies!
google avatar

Katie L.

Yelp
Great sushi for great prices, especially if you make it to happy hour sushi from 4-6pm. Edamame, gyoza, miso soup, lobster rolls, snow crab rolls and crab sticks. All were delicious.
google avatar

Alexandria Y.

Yelp
The bento box was amazing. I ordered take out, online which was super easy. I had to share due to the portion size. I love Sake. I usually frequent the one located in Harahan. This spot was closer to me at the time. It didn't disappoint at all. The food was great and fresh. The hostess was friendly and fast which I appreciated since I was on my lunch break. I will be returning hopefully to have as dine in.
