8 New Bib Gourmands Announced for MICHELIN Guide Kyoto Osaka 2024

"‘DNA’ was appended to the name to evoke the richness of Japanese cuisine and the spirit of Japan as defining features of the restaurant. There’s a reason why the soup using kombu kelp and bonito dashi stock takes pride of place." - MICHELIN Guide Japan

Saketosakana DNA

"‘DNA’ was appended to the name to evoke the richness of Japanese cuisine and the spirit of Japan as defining features of the restaurant. There’s a reason why the soup using kombu kelp and bonito dashi stock takes pride of place. Fish is shipped directly from Obama, Fukui Prefecture, so there’s a good selection of sake from Fukui, too. Foodstuffs and sake from the same locale tend to get on well together—there’s that DNA again. The warmth of the three family members is a genetic inheritance from father to son and daughter." - Michelin Inspector

My husband and I were able to walk in last night and they seated us at the counter. They had an English menu and were patient and polite when taking our orders. We loved everything we ate, especially the Wagyu beef (not pictured here) and the salted grilled fish. Everything was great and reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend!

(From a Western customer): - The quality and choice of fish was superb. - Best vegetable tempura we have ever had. Batter, cooking technique, and especially vegetable choice was outstanding. - Presentation was beautiful and practical. - Helpful and extremely friendly service, including descriptions and explanations of the local fish and vegetables. Especially relevant for non-Japanese customers.

Delicious grilled fish and seafood. The service is a bit disjointed at times but the food is very good. Don’t order the Tuna. It is a bit over priced.

Easily our favorite restaurant in Kyoto - we even went two nights in a row! The food was delicious and great value. Most special were the staff (a father, daughter, and son) - a kind and talented group. A special and heartwarming combination!

Probably the best dinner we had in Kyoto, and for a really reasonable price!

Warm-hearted people (family-owned and operated) who serve incredible dishes. I don’t like eggplant, but I’d eat a plate every day from them… every single dish was outstanding. A must stop in Kyoto. 🙏🏾

After a terrible experience at Miki Restaurant, where they refused me a seat with 3 available, I did a search and found this little place and had 4 different kinds of sashimi, grilled Spanish mackerel, wild vegetables tempura, and a rich miso soup made with tiny clams!! Everything was delicious and the presentations were amazing. The chef was super friendly and had a constant smile on his face. Give these guys a try if you're in the area, you won't regret it!

They do not speak English here, but we're very friendly. An amazing dining experience. Locals helped us out on ordering and this was some of the best food in kyoto.
