Sakura Ya debuts a rare Japanese menu of sushi and bento boxes in Centennial’s Skye Canyon - Eater Vegas

"A rare Japanese dining option in the far northwest, currently only served by Umami and Krazy Sushi on Durango Drive, Sakura Ya joins casual Asian-inspired restaurants Qwik Thai and China-a-GoGo at the Marketplace, offering takeout and delivery, and its own spin on lunch specials, including sushi and sashimi deals, and beef, chicken, or salmon bento boxes. The lengthy menu of familiar favorites includes tempura appetizers, soups, ramen, udon, chicken katsu, raw bar options of tuna, yellowtail, and octopus, and teriyaki dishes. The casual full-service restaurant also serves dozens of specialty, baked, and fried rolls, plus the Sakura boat, hosting three special rolls and a chef’s choice of 12 pieces of sashimi and 10 servings of nigiri." - Bradley Martin

Hidden gem tucked away by Smiths! Make sure to get fresh wasabi with your rolls and don’t skip the Yaki Udon if you love a good stir fry. Service was great, super kind. Def will come back.

Some of the best sushi we’ve had in a very long time! Everything was fresh, the tempura was light and crispy, and the garlic edamame was fantastic!

Google
I LOVE when I find a hit sushi restaurant when I least expect it and that’s exactly what happened here. They give real chopsticks, with a nice weight to them, which elevates the dining experience. (I cannot stand wood chopsticks.) Cute decor. Great fish. We had torro, salmon, and yellowtail sushi which were all quite fresh and refreshing. We’ll be back!

Google
This was our first time here. Great service and prices. The servers kept checking on us and kept our drinks fill We ate Udon with chicken, Tonkatsu Ramen, gyoza and edamame. They were all very good and hot. We would go back again

The best sushi I've had in a long time! The yakisoba noddles blew my mind as well.

We have Dined in here a couple of times, though we usually have gotten it to go. We have never been disappointed in any of the food we have had. And when we get it to go, it’s always for 4 or more, but unlike many other places, we always got what we wanted. I lived in Japan in the late 70’s, and went back to visit around 2015. I have eaten at some of the best sushi places there and here in Las Vegas, but I have not seen any place that I could honestly say was better than this place!

Google
This is my go-to local Japanese restaurant. I usually sit at the sushi bar, which has only about five seats. I've also dined here with my boyfriend and enjoyed a booth. The place is quaint and small, but it really packs a punch. The service is incredibly quick and attentive, and the food always arrives piping hot. The sushi quality is top-notch, and another favorite of mine is the fried calamari, which is tossed with chili peppers and green onions—it's the perfect complement. I've ordered takeout multiple times, and the quality remains just as impressive. However, they might need to rethink how they package the soup, as mine tends to spill. Regardless, I always keep coming back. I definitely recommend this place if you're looking for quick, delicious, affordable and high-quality Japanese cuisine.

We wanted to find a Japanese restaurant that served bento. We found Sakura Ya in the Skye Canyon Center. Their menu is extensive including bento. There is lots of parking with handicap parking and handicap access. It opens at 11am. The interior is nice clean with charming Asian decor. The atmoshere was cozy, relaxing. We were greeted warmly as we entered. There is booth seating or table seating. We chose the booth which was comfortable. Mandy our server and her assistance were wonderful, very attentive, patient and pleasant. Hubby ordered the sushi lunch special and I ordered the sashimi lunch special. Both came with miso soup and salad. The presentation was beautiful. The sashimi was delicious, fresh and delectable. The miso soup was yummy. The portions were just right. The prices were moderate. This was a great find. We will definitely return soon to try the ither items.

Yelp
I'm happy that this place is close by. Their food is outstanding and staff are very accommodating. Place is clean inside and out.

Yelp
Such a good sushi spot! It's quaint and quiet, which we love, and the service is quick too. They don't have AYCE, but they had a pretty good variety of rolls and starters. We started with a few appetizers, my favorite being their Fried Spam Musubi and the Seaweed Salad. The spam musubi was amazing!! Super crispy and the sauces they put on it were such a good combo. I believe it was Kewpie and an eel sauce, but with the fried tempura batter it was so tasty! The California Roll was pretty standard, so nothing to complain about there. My friends and I all enjoyed what we ordered and definitely plan on coming back!

Yelp
The food is amazing and the service is excellent. Very attentive. The music provides a casual ambiance.

Yelp
This has become our go to sushi spot! We've done take out and dine in, and it's always good. The rolls are large and it tastes like they use quality fish. The staff is always very attentive and friendly. The inside of the store has always been clean and we rarely have to wait. Pricing is a little high but that is every sushi restaurant. There is no all you can eat however.
google avatar

Naomi L.

Yelp
Very well kept inside and out. The seafood is very fresh and the deals are reasonable. The service is amazing and the servers were all smile. Another great hidden gem that is underestimated! Definitely coming back to this amazing place. The place in itself is very clean and the ambiance is nice.

Yelp
We were in the mood for some Japanese food so decided to try a different resturant in NW Las Vegas area. The combination fried rice was geeat with lots of beef, chicken and shrimp. The tempura shrimp and scallops were also very good on probably the best panko tempura we have had in the area, and the drag rollnwas also great. Servers are friendly and attentive and prices decent for the amount of food. We left very full and happy.

Yelp
The restaurant is small, nice and cozy. Casual for families. A good option for a meal if you're close by. There aren't too many sushi spots worth mentioning in the north. Sakura Ya is okay for sushi. I think the other entrees would be done really well. The sushi is good but not the best. The rolls kinda fell apart really easy, and texture of the rice was missing something. Flavors were okay. Nothing spectacular, but It did satisfy my craving, We also had the salt & pepper calamari. These calamari rings are tiny. Like pinky ring tiny lol I was not expecting the plate that I received but I guess that's how It remains affordable. Other than It being super small the salt and pepper flavor was spot on. Service was great, checked in on us just enough. Gave my son a tiny cup and straw which was the perfect size for his hands lol. For affordability and the casual setting I would return to try some of the other food. Three rolls and an appetizer set us back at $40ish which isn't too bad.

Yelp
We would recommend this place. The service was really good. They were fast and very polite. They opened the door for me because they saw that I had a stroller. There was ample parking outside and the inside was very clean. It was quiet so not noisy like some places with lots of music. There were booths and tables to sit that were all clean. We didn't have to wait and were seated right away. As for the food itself, it was fine. Normal type of sushi place. We got the chicken teriyaki bento and salmon teriyaki bento that was $12.95 and $15.95. It came with miso soup, rice, chicken gyoza, salad, and California roll. A little pricey for a lunch special but still good. We would come back for the ambiance and service. It was really comfy for us to come here with our little kids who ate vanilla ice cream. The scoop was $3.50, which was expensive, but it kept them quiet for awhile! So worth the money!

Yelp
I am pretty damn impressed! I haven't dined there yet but I ordered delivery and everything is awesome! Delivery sushi always can get sketchy I know but when you want it you want it! I got the sunset tempura roll, white tuna, crab stick and sushi rice. All came fresh and still at temp even though I live a little further. They paid attention to modifiers for the most part and I have to say the quality is better than a lot of places that I've dined in at. Can't wait to check out the restaurant!

Yelp
Ordered takeout from this place tonight after a long day. Boy did we make a mistake by trying a new place tonight. We ordered the Sky Canyon Special which is a combination plate with 2 rolls. We found out why it was pretty cheap and affordable. After picking up our order I took it home and my wife had taken a bit of her sashimi only to find PIN WORMS in the fish! She pulled about 3-4 from her one piece of sashimi. Needless to say this where our meal stopped. We called the restaurant (we're about 10 min away and figured this was better than going back) and the lady who answered told us the food was warm because the type of roll. Once she realized we were saying there were worms she said to call back in an hour when her manager could talk. Fast forward an hour later and now her manager is TOO BUSY to talk us. She can't help us, the manager is busy with their work, and they can't do anything at this time. They took our phone number and said they will try to call us tomorrow morning Worst service. Worst food. Will not come back and warn anyone who tries this place to check their food. We may be wrong in our findings, but it's never worth the risk. The fact they can't address this concern in the moment is beyond me.

Yelp
From the beginning to end- a wonderful experience dining at Sakura Ya. We ordered fried spam musubi, salt & pepper pork chops, the combination fried rice, the caterpillar roll and the lobster roll. Everything tasted delicious. My husband said "even the water tastes good" and he always needs a lemon with his water and is very picky with water flavor. So hats off to Sakura Ya for exceeding our expectations. I am so happy we found you now we can keep coming back for more!
google avatar

Garret B.

Yelp
This place is consistent. The staff is friendly, the food is great, and you can always get a table with no wait or a quick short wait. We like their bento boxes for lunch. Their boat for dinner. Even though they aren't all you can eat the prices are fair and we love that you can see the sushi bar from where you're sitting.
google avatar

Joshua S.

Yelp
Rolls are good and service is very fast. Small restaurant which is nice. I just wish they had AYCE!

Brian F.

Yelp
The service was amazing our 1st time here. Always making sure we were happy. The food was very fresh, portions good size too. The Chicken Teriyaki was so good and the shrimp tempura too. The atmosphere was nice too not loud at all.
google avatar

Lisa T.

Yelp
Had this delivered. It was very good! Well packaged and care taken how it was packaged along with enough napkins and sauces. The cold and warm meals in separate bags! So the sushi didn't get hot including the California rolls from the bento lunch special! Thank you I appreciate that! Will definitely order again and look forward to going into to eat sometime too!

Yelp
Typically, we tend to frequent our preferred sushi establishments and seldom deviate from them. However, my spouse expressed an interest in trying out this particular establishment due to its favorable ratings. The atmosphere exuded a simple and pristine vibe, while the personnel were affable and their uniforms added an appealing touch. The seaweed salad stood out as a favorite among my husband's preferences. Additionally, the accompanying side salad boasted a delightful dressing, generously portioned. We indulged in numerous rolls and nigiri, all of which exhibited excellent quality. Without a doubt, we intend to revisit this establishment in the future.

Yelp
Whoa. Took a gamble on this place & lucked out. Food was fresh, our orders all came out quickly, the people working here are nice, and we enjoyed ourselves because everything was perfect. Glad we found this spot, now we know where to go next time we are out exploring. This place is amazing, do yourself a favor and try it for yourself. Sugoi!

Martin C.

Yelp
One of the best sushi places in Vegas. Very clean, polite, and fresh at the temperature. We are from Reno and we wish we were closer. We have sushi 2-3 times a week and this is great. Salt pepper calamari best we've had. The lollipop cucumber roll has no rice-amazing. Marty and Rhonda
google avatar

Steve F.

Yelp
Very nice sushi place on the edge of Vegas. Good value and the staff were nice. I got your standard sushi lunch with a miso and a large salad.
google avatar

Jeanette L.

Yelp
This has become one of our gotos. Food is always great. Service is always great and even one time they were so packed the service was near and far. When we came back the next time they apologized and gave us ice cream. We're regulars and we didn't complain. It was such a kind gesture. They just updated their menus and tableware it's so cute! Music is k pop type and not to loud.
google avatar

Morgan K.

Yelp
Amazing service, clean facility and some of the best sushi we have had in a long time. We will definitely be coming back!!
google avatar

Patrick A.

Yelp
The worst Ramen I have ever had. the sushi construction was pathetic. The ingredients in the sushi were pathetic. The sushi were very small. Very very sad.
google avatar

Yelp
Planning to do groceries @ smiths and saw this restaurant right next to it. Decided to get lunch before doing groceries. We came in server was busy told us to choose any table. Loved how booth were spacious and roomy, definitely a plus... Server served us beverages before taking our order had the Coconut smoothie, rich in boba and that coconut juice was just ice-smooth cold perfect for the summer heat. Starters we started off with the Salt & Pepper Calamari! The calamari deep-fried came out in smaller bits. Spicy, peppery and crunchy to taste, quite enjoyable for a starter. Would've like a bit more substance on them calamari felt small which made it easier to chew and eat. The Sho-yu ramen was just like any typical ramen noodles I've had in the past. I like that the menu has mixed dishes with ramen selection, sushi dishes and their unique Bento items. Definitely will come back to try their sushi side of the menu. Best place if you are on a grab-to-go or quick-in-dining.

Yelp
It's been over a year since my HB and I had sushi in the NE Centennial Hills area. Checked this place out for dinner and we're both super happy to have found them! Very small place but the food is fantastic. Everything tasted fresh, restaurant and restrooms very clean, very welcoming staff. We will be back!
google avatar

Marcial A.

Yelp
Great food and service! The place was clean and music was playing in the background which my 1 year old daughter was dancing to. lol We will definitely be back.
google avatar

Mike S.

Yelp
Great first time experience! Extensive menu and great prices. We had beers, hot saki, and dinner for under $60! The thick pieces of smoked salmon sashimi and broiled salmon skin rolls were bomb!! Try it out .
google avatar

saint k.

Yelp
a lot of sauce which is fine but it becomes overwhelming because it soaks the greens which would be fine if more and/or other vegetables were involved in this salad. it becomes a mush of the salmon skin and the sauce and the greens are sort of drowned out. overall the initial taste is good. beyond the lunch specials though, this restaurant overall is pricey for the amount of food. service is pretty fast. its a small restaurant so i usually get my food to-go.
google avatar

Mallory D.

Yelp
Ordered take out for dinner and it was pretty good! Delivered within 45 minutes from ordering on Yelp. Got a buffet of different rolls: salmon, spicy, hurricane, sunshine, heart attack, hot crunchy rolls. Some had more flavor than others but with the added wasabi and ginger it added flavor. Some of the fried rolls got soggy so maybe only order those in person.
google avatar

Winona Rain V.

Yelp
my favorite sushi restaurant! they don't serve AYCE, and i've come to realize that their rolls are so delicious because they don't sacrifice quality for quantity the way that AYCE locations do. the rolls here are sooo flavorful and addictive. i can order like 4 rolls for myself bc they're just so freaking good. it's a small restaurant, so walking in, you definitely don't really expect to taste some of the best sushi you've ever had, but goodness gracious! i felt so addicted, i couldn't stop thinking about their sushi. the employees are also very kind, quick and attentive. also, bonus points that the rolls are always beautifully presented, even when you're ordering it to-go. this is the only photo i ever took of my food bc i am not kidding when i say i cannot stop myself from devouring their sushi as soon as it's in front of me. i'd gone here 6 times before i finally stopped to take a quick picture before i ate it lol. i'm trying to cut back on ordering out every day bc of my new year's resolution, but i still have dreams about the french kiss tempura roll!!

Yelp
Found this new spot on a recommendation from a friend.. and compared to other local places near our home this place KILL'D it. Family of 6, we called ahead and asked if they had space for us.. they said yes and asked how soon we'd like to come. 10min later we walk in, greeting was warm, and immediately taken to table they had setup for us. Sushi was tasty, and left us wanting to come back again!

Mitch O.

Yelp
Good food, good service, had the chicken teriyaki which was very tasty. Wife had fried rice which was also good. We've had the bento box which is excellent for the price but is only available until 4:00
google avatar

Steve D.

Yelp
This place has been a goto once a week for my wife and I. We love the service and the food. Wife always gets the rolls and I always try something new and haven't been disappointed yet. I highly recommend this place. Also happy hour is but a beer get one free. Can't beat that.

T. W.

Yelp
Tried their lunch menu. Reasonable prices for bento boxes. Miso soup to start, came piping hot & very flavorful- (pet peeve is a lukewarm, watered down miso soup!) Generous portions of chosen protein (beef teriyaki & chicken katsu), freshly fried gyoza, 4 Calif rolls. Friendly, attentive service. Clean, attractive interior. Will definitely return.
google avatar

Dennis M.

Yelp
Amazing atmosphere! Friendly service but lets talk about the food. Everything tastes fresh. All of it. Clean restaurant. Definitely will be coming back!
google avatar

Jennifer B.

Yelp
My younger son is a total sushi lover. I ordered udon noodles with teriyaki (which a HUGE by the way! I've never seen such a fat noodle in my life!) And my lunch date ordered the Roller Coaster roll. The sound of "eel sauce" put me off, but wow. It was actually really good! The lady who served us was very quiet and polite. Sushi is expensive anyways but making my kiddo happy and actually eating good sushi? Totally worth it!
google avatar

Megan W.

Yelp
Stopped here the other day and really enjoyed it. I tried one of the combos that had rolls, sashimi, and nigiri (enough for two people). Both rolls were quite nice, but what really stole the show was the nigiri and sashimi. Crazy fresh and delicious. The salmon nigiri especially blew my mind. I plan on going back to try more of the nigiri options.
google avatar

Sam L.

Yelp
Really solid Nigiri, but the real showstopper was the Shrimp Tempura. I can't remember the last time I had Shrimp Tempura that good.
google avatar

Chris Q.

Yelp
Great place for sushi. Very kid friendly! Bento box and noodles were amazing! Service was attentive and helpful!
google avatar

Crystal-lee H.

Yelp
This is a hidden gem!! I'm from Vancouver Island in Canada and the sushi here is fresher than most restaurants there on the ocean. Everything is affordable, exceptionally inexpensive (how do they afford to stay in business?). Servers are always kind and patient, happy to answer questions. Miso soup is incredible! The real deal is the sushi special for lunch with a roll and then nigiri as well as soup and salad. Everything is as fresh as it can be, including the salad!
google avatar

Brittany K.

Yelp
Love the sushi here. Every time I come here everything is amazing! The staff is so nice and friendly and the food is amazing! I got the sunset roll, the spicy crab roll and the crunchy roll. Everything is so fresh.
google avatar

Lady C.

Yelp
Small but busy place. Very clean and also service comes quickly. Really enjoyed the quiet enough for conversation and the smell of freshly made food. Such a good variety of both sushi and plate dishes. I will surely be back for sushi, sake, and fried rice. It just smelled so good.
google avatar

Yelp
Yesterday I was craving chicken teriyaki and found this restaurant was closest to me. I decided to order online and pick up. We ordered 2 orders of chicken teriyaki with fried rice , spring rolls , avocado roll, and chicken yakisoba. Let Me just say wow! Everything was piping hot and delicious! Only negative I had was they packaged everything in styrofoam containers which lead to a lot of leakage from all the sauces. So be careful if ordering to go! Everything was fresh and not greasy at all. Our meals came with a miso soup which was delicious! Egg rolls were perfectly crisp. This was our first time trying yakisoba and we are now addicted. The chicken teriyaki is a huge serving perfect for 2-3 ppl to eat. As well as the side of rice that comes with it. We definitely had leftovers since we ordered 2 orders. Avocado roll was yummy and perfect for vegans or those of us who cannot eat seafood to still enjoy some sushi. We definitely will be back to try the ramen and more!
google avatar

Reed B.

Yelp
This is a really good option for vegans in North Las Vegas, especially if you're eating with non-vegans. I had a generous plate of veggie tempura and seaweed salad to start, followed by a vegetable roll stuffed with cucumber, avocado, asparagus, and burdock root. It was all very tasty and affordable. The seating is tight but they do take reservations and there were open tables on a Sunday night. Our server was also very attentive and friendly. I would be happy to come back for the same meal.
google avatar

Cameron C.

Yelp
VIBES: 3/5 super quiet Japanese spot with a heavier sushi focus than ramen. It does feel a bit disconnected due to the color scheme and seating arrangements but it does well for a large group. VALUE: 4/5 The best bang for your buck is going to be the Bento Box...I unfortunately did not get the Bento Box lol. I ended up getting a beef teriyaki bowl and it got the job done (satiating my hunger) left left much to be desired. For $3 more the bento would have scratched that itch. SERVICE: 3/5 Service here was typical of an Asian location where I don't speak the tongue. I always feel it to be short, sharp, and tinged with an air of irritation. But, maybe I'm just reading into it too deep. Orders were presented in a timely manner however which was very nice. PRODUCT(S): 4/5 The food all around was good! I don't think there were any complaints in flavor, my only complaint is just around the fact that the Bento Box was misleadingly small on the menu when in fact it's a SUPER DEAL.
google avatar

Paul L.

Yelp
Love that I have a neighborhood sushi spot where they know who we are when we walk in. Top quality sushi and some pretty inventive rolls. Service is great and the prices are reasonable. Worth a visit

Yelp
Tried Sakura Ya for the first time via take out. It was decent if you need a sushi fix in the Northwest/Centennial Hills area. It's not a true Japanese restaurant and there is a mix of Japanese and Chinese dishes on the menu. I ordered my typical nigiri and a roll. The scallop and surf clam were good, the amaebi was ok but small. The Hawaii Tempura Roll had way too much sauce. I also ordered Agedashi tofu and was disappointed. It was not Agedashi tofu but just fried tofu. Yes there is a difference. Agedashi tofu is typically soft or silken tofu and dredged in potato or corn starch and served in dashi broth. This was a firm tofu, not dredged in any starch and no dashi broth. It was plain old fried tofu, refried and served dry (photo attached). Ordered 2 more dishes, the short ribs, salt and pepper porkchops. Both were good for the geographic area but better could be had if your willing to drive to Spring Valley. The portions are small versus the price and I'm not sure if that's due to the current situation we are living in (inflation, supply chain, etc...). If your in the area and need a quick sushi fix and not willing to drive , it may be worth going to.

Yelp
Food was good. Had the chicken teriyaki bento box. It filled me up. Service staff were very attentive.
