Where to Eat Excellent Pizza in Nashville

"For large, New York-style slices, Sal’s Pizza off Bell Road is the right call. Originally founded in New York by Salvatore “Sal” Oliveri, the shop made its way down south, opening a simple, no-fuss joint that’s been churning out large slices for over 20 years. Along with pizza, you’ll also find hefty subs, calzones, and strombolis helping you wind your way to the cannoli for dessert. Sal’s also offers a gluten-free option for its crust." - Jackie Gutierrez-Jones, Eater Staff

Went in on a weekday at 2:30. Waited less than five minutes for two slices of fresh cheese pizza. Their deal was two cheese slices and a drink for $8.99. So amazing and filling. I didn’t think it was going to be so big for just a single slice.

Google
Wife and I tried this place out about a month ago and wow! We agree that’s it’s the best pizza around. Mon-Wed they run a large pizza special and it’s a good deal for the size. Would recommend to anyone who loves pizza. We haven’t tried anything else on the menu, so you will have to try that for yourself. Enjoy!

Google
sal’s pizza is definitely one of the best pizzas i’ve had in a long time! The staff was so nice. They even opened up the patio so we can sit with our dog after we had a long day of biking. A medium pizza was just enough between me and my fiancé. It filled us up without making us feel gross and sluggish afterwards. probably because it look like they made everything fresh. will be back soon!

Was visiting Nashville and stayed at a nearby hotel for the week. We were hungry and stumbled upon this gem. We ordered a caesar salad to start and then got the Sals Special. It was delicious. Super hot and the cheese was gooey. Customer service was amazing. We were greeted in a timely manner from a young woman. She checked on us often and made sure our cups were full. We will definitely be back next visit.

Google
Absolutely atrocious pizza and very expensive. The bacon was barely there and the sauce was too sweet.

We went to Sal’s to order pizza on Christmas eve for the entire family. This was my first visit to Sal’s and I ordered over the phone. The customer service over the phone was friendly and easy to order. I walked in, my pies were ready and paid and walked out the door. I was very impressed with the pizza. Very big slices, the sauce was a little sweet (i liked it) and it tasted great. I highly recommend getting some pizza. We got three pizzas and two orders of wings for $100. A little pricey but the experience and the food were great. Overall, I definitely will be back as it is one of the better pizza places in the area.

Google
Its a sit your self establishment. Chill piano music, not to loud, great to have a conversation atmosphere. This Saturday night is not too busy thankfully. We are so hungry. Good came out fairly quick. First time here i'd return again.

Yelp
I have gotten pizza from here 4 times now. Once was a dine in experience. The pizza is ok. They sell it by the slice or entire pie. There are also other options like calzones. Stromboli, and pasta. The kids like it, my partner likes it, I think it's okay. The toppings are not done enough for me and I'm not sure if that would make sense to most other people. I would ask for it to be cooked slightly longer but the crust may be overcooked. The dine in experience is struggling like most other restaurants since the pandemic, there is just not enough staff so you will have to wait. It's casual, family friendly, and clean. You can walk in and sit wherever you want and someone will come by to present you with menus and take you drink order. There are televisions playing to keep you preoccupied. The kids had their tablets.

Yelp
I'm giving this place 2 stars because I will always choose a local business over a chain restaurant and the ambience and service is always great, but I'd strong suggest changing up some things with the food: This review is long overdue. I live close to this place and would love for it to be my go to pizza place, but over the years this place has had consistently bad pizza The pasta my wife and I have tried is actually good, but the pizza crust is cracker consistency, but not thin enough to be like a tavern style pizza - It doesn't resemble New York style pizza. The cheese/sauce is average at best. I've gone in to try it by the slice also tried sharing a whole pizza in person with some folks. I thought maybe I was crazy by how poor the quality of the pizza was when the reviews were actually in the four star range. The nail in the coffin for this place was when we decided to order pizza at the house. We ordered 2 large pizzas and no one could finish a slice because they were not good at all. I hate giving negative reviews to local businesses - I'd be glad to come back if the quality improves and give this place another shot. Until then, I'll be frequenting Tutti's.

Yelp
This was a nice surprise that our hotel suggested. The place was slammed when we arrived which was a good sign. They quickly had us at a table. It did take a while to take our order and get us our drinks, but they were really busy. The food came out pretty quick and both the kiddo and I enjoyed it. We tore thru o we half the large before finally giving up and getting a box. The best part...under $20! Definitely recommended.

Yelp
Staying one night in Brentwood wanted to eat local. Sal's family pizza did not disappoint. It was great. Hot fresh and better than mellow mushroom. It was fine! Atmosphere was fun like my house when everyone is there. I like loud happy and delicious. Sals was

Yelp
I am on a business trip and decided to try this place. I ordered a calzone with ground beef, salami and mozzarella. Hot damn that thing was good. It came with plenty of marinara for dipping. I made the entire calzone disappear within 15 minutes. I'm honestly considering ordering another later tonight.

Yelp
This was TERRIBLE! I loooove eggplant parm and this was by far the worst, wasted $12. Glad I got the app version and not the entree for $15! It was a soggy mess, couldn't even eat it
google avatar

Yelp
I've been to Sal's a number of times and have really enjoyed the food each time. The pizza is very good and I love the thin crust and the quality of cheese and toppings they use. Came by here with a buddy for a quick bite before taking him back to the airport to fly back home to California. He is a dedicated pizza lover and really enjoyed the pie here, and that says something

Yelp
Sal's is always a good place for NY style pizza. The staff is always accommodating and quick. The food taste great and the price is reasonable. I have been eating here for years and love how they are always willing to help with my semi difficult order

Yelp
Wellcome to sals family pizza with your family and friends you can bring your lovely wine

Yelp
3.5. Man behind the counter was very nice, friendly, and the food came up pretty quick. Food was average. I got a Sicilian small and 2 slices of the regular ny. I've had better and worse pizza in Nashville. Would probably stop for a slice if I was in the area again, wouldn't go out of my way for it.
google avatar

Yelp
Had a quick bite to eat for lunch today. The atmosphere was clean and bright. The personel were all about giving you the attention they needed to to get your order right. It wasn't long for a wait either. The Pizza slices were hot and the soft drinks were cold. Perfect for a quick on the go". Lunch. Plenty of seating and parking too.

Jessica M.

Yelp
We stopped in on a whim as we were traveling back to Arkansas from the east coast only to be absolutely amazed by how great the pizza was! As someone who grew up in new York this pizza brought back the memories of pizza growing up. 1000000/10. It will be on our possible stop list the next time we go back to the coast!
google avatar

Tracy R.

Yelp
We're visiting from Maryland and we loved the pizza so much, we ate here twice! Loved the Sicilian!!! Best cannolis I've had in a LONG time!!!

Tiffanie B.

Yelp
I purchased the spaghetti with meat sauce, a large pizza with extra cheese, sausage, peppers and onions. Also ordered cheese bread with marinara sauce. The cheese bread was the best thing I tasted from this order. The pizza dough was raw underneath all the cheese and toppings which were actually fresh. When I grabbed a slice all the toppings fell off and the dough was limp and soggy. The spaghetti sauce had zero flavor/seasonings. I had to doctor it up to even tolerate it so as to not let it go to waste. Will not be spending another dime on this place. Do not recommend. So much potential but so little care goes into this food and it's obvious.

Lisa O.

Yelp
Always great pizza! I like they sell it by the slice! The Lasagna is really good too! Service is always good!

Yelp
One of my favorite NY style pizza in the area. No greasy pizza or feeling of bloat after eating. Toppings are fantastic and like the thinner pizza crust. Done just like the northeast. We had some pizza at a birthday party and had to visit the one off Nolensville Rd/Old hickory to bring home for dinner. We ordered the supreme and cheese pizza and enjoyed both. We will be back again for many times more.

David M.

Yelp
Pizza ok but not the best in the city. Bread was good, the toppings were a bit sparse. Prices a bit painful. $50 for two small salads and a large pie

Rick D.

Yelp
On the hottest day of this summer, we decided to try Sal's and there was no air. Had to request they turn on the overhead fan which apparently had never been turned on. Ate my calzone while I sweat through the meal. Food was mediocre at best. Won't be back.

Rob D.

Yelp
First time here after a family member raves about it. Being from NJ I know good Italian food. I had an Antipasto and was less than impressed... basically salad with rolled meat/cheese you couldn't distinguish. Filled with black olives and a few green. Very disappointing. Wife had fettuccine Alfredo which she said was ok.

Yelp
authentic new york style pizza right in the heart of stewart's ferry!!! could not believe my taste buds!!
google avatar

Natasha S.

Yelp
Great pizza for great price. Convenient location and friendly service. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
google avatar

Dagan B.

Yelp
3.5 Rounded up. The spaghetti was decent and the meatballs were good but overall it was just a 3 especially for the price. The garlic bread needed sauce from the spaghetti to make it a 3. The pizza was a solid 4. That thin flexible Neapolitan style. The pepperoni was a 3 the sausage a 4 the mushrooms a 4 the bell pepper a 4 the onion a 4. The olives a 3. The side salad was a standard 3. So I wouldn't get pasta again for that price but the pizza was good. And it is not that it is a break the bank price but the more you pay the better the quality should be,
google avatar

Crystal T.

Yelp
It is nice to walk in and everyone knows you. My husband and I have been coming to Sals for years. We have our own special salad that we order when we go WHICH IS ALOT! They treat you like family!
google avatar

Yelp
Great pizza great sizes fast on your orders make a great vegetarian pizza Clean Great parking easy access to interstate
google avatar

Yelp
The pizza is really good here. Stumbled upon it on a road trip and didn't want fast food. We'll always keep this in mind if we are in the area

Yelp
Awesome and always on time. A little place that is worth its weight in gold. Always my goto, to remember where I come from.
google avatar

Yelp
Off the hook bread, bread with marinara, sandwiches toasted, good salads, pizza good. Friendly staff, we will continue to get our lunch and dinner here. Great place.

Yelp
Great place to eat. Best gluten free pizza in town. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
google avatar

Yelp
If you prefer New York style pizza, this is the end of your search. My wife and I have given the others around the area a try just for fun, but we always end up comparing others to Sal's pizza and Sal's always wins... by a lot. It's atmosphere isn't trendy, but rather old school, which really, I don't care about too much. The staff is friendly and the pizza is New York. Sauce has the best flavor. Fold your slice in half and enjoy.
google avatar

Kleopatra G.

Yelp
The pizza here is delicious and the young man who helped me was delightful. The pizza is so good that I went back to eat my second slice and it was cold, but it was still so good so I just kept eating it cold. FYI they stop selling slices at 8pm.
google avatar

Jennifer H.

Yelp
Really nice pizza. Crust had a good crunch , nice color on the dough and no flop. The sausage was nice and spicy and the mushrooms had a good texture and were huge. It had just the right amount of cheese and sauce. Also tasted great the next day!

Jason C.

Yelp
I ordered there mon-wed extra large for special 16.01. The woman at the counter said I couldn't add a topping, even for charge of 2.50. I would have to order regular menu price. I felt like the lady was being rude on explaining, so I took my business elsewhere.

Gary M.

Yelp
Reminds me of store bought frozen pizza, except not as good. My wife ordered pizza with spinach, chicken and extra cheese, there was one very small leaf of spinach, two thin 1 inch square of chicken, and no extra cheese we could see. I had ordered sausage and it had 4 small bites of sausage. And mine had very small amounts of cheese. Sal needs to go to Dayton or "Cincinnati and try Marion's, Cassanos or Joe's pizza or LaRosa pizza. P.S, my crust was black on the bottom. I hope the sandwiches are better!

Garrett K.

Yelp
This place is the bomb diggity. I'm here in Nashville for work for the last week. They serve single slices if you're not very hungry. The sals Greek white is probably the best pizza I've ever ate. I also created a meatball salad that ended up being amazing. I've ate here 4 days in a row and I have not been disappointed once!
google avatar

Maggi V.

Yelp
Pizza is good, chicken parmigiana sub was good but I wouldn't order it again. The mozzarella sticks were awful, you could taste the freezer burn or stale, not sure but they were real bad. We took our food to go and thankful we did because almost a quarter of the tables in the place weren't bussed.

Yelp
Best Pizza in town tied with Joey's, Vinnie's, and 5-points Pizza coming in second. Best pizza and best Italian food in Donelson. Portions are generous. Prices are low for how much and quality you get. Most of the people on here complaining about this place sound like they think they are entitled to 5-star concierge service following them wherever they go, along with a couple of hand-maidens sprinkling their path with flower pedals and a cabana boy to fan them and wipe their brow. It's a small mom-n-pop pizza-n-italian and they're making the best pies in town at family prices!!! "I had to wait 2 minutes for my drink order and another 20 to get my pizza"... Well la-dee-da poor Mr. Fancypants.... maybe you should give your balls a tug---make sure they're still attached! BEST PIZZA IN TOWN!!! Then who's this guy on here complaining that they closed a little early on a slow weeknight!? Yeah... restaurants close early sometimes. Sometimes restaurants run out of an ingredient or a dish. Especially a small mom-n-pop restaurant with food like home cooking delicious at family prices. If you want to be able to breeze off a random interstate exit while you're driving through Nashville and get served any time 24/7, maybe you should try McDonalds or Super WalMart. While you're at it, give you balls a tug, make sure they're still attached. Best pizza in town!!!

Yelp
Being from New York and relocating to Nashville this was the first place that we were actually satisfied with their New York style pizza pies. We tried other local pizzaria's but they cut their pizza into about 20 slices that are triangles and squares. Real pizza should always be 8 slices in triangles unless it's a Sicilian pie which should be 12 slices in rectangles. The cheese and the sauce remind us of pizza from New York and their crusts are cooked just right. We have moved further away from this Sal's location but we still stop by Sal's for a pizza whenever we're close by.
google avatar

Joe L.

Yelp
Was in the area and decided to stop by for a delicious slice of cheese pizza. Now Sal's is not gourmet but it is solid quality food served by some wonderful people. While Sal may not be with us any longer, his delicious recipes are served up to folks who enjoy that old school Italian experience. I would compare a slice of pie from Sal's to what I grab on the streets of Queens, NY. Not only do they serve pizza, their lunch buffet during the week is a great deal.
google avatar

Lindsey H.

Yelp
We tried carry out tonight and it was amazing. We have been trying to find a good New York style pizza here and this is it! The staff was friendly and it was exactly as ordered. We will be ordering from them again.
google avatar

Yelp
I saw a movie with new friends and they suggested Sal's pizza. They r regulars and we were given the WORKS!!! A table of 13 and everything was fast, fresh, and tasty. All our orders were correct, the server was friendly, and the atmosphere was nice. I ordered the chicken Cesar salad and an appetizer of chicken parmigiana (didn't know it came as an app). Booth were wonderful! I will go back and try their pizzas and calzones
google avatar

Lisa B.

Yelp
This pizza is the best. I always get the supreme. I get the New York style or thin crust. I go there when I want good pizza because it's not close to my house. Domino's, Jets, and Pizza Hut are closer to me. So that's why when I or my boyfriend are in that area we make sure we get a pie from there. Being that I'm 1/2 Italian I love this pizza place.
google avatar

Melissa B.

Yelp
Well I have to admit the hype was too big for this place. I was so disappointed when I went here. I was expecting this "Amazing, WOW" food and it was such a let down. I hate to write anything bad about a place. But, I am not a fan of buffet style food. Too many germs, too many people letting their KIDS help themselves..I hate buffet food. Anyway, here are some pictures. I am not going to say anything more, you will have to eat the food for yourself and JUDGE it..good luck !!!
google avatar

Deb A.

Yelp
Well, being from out of town it it's hard to decide who, among many pizza joints, to order from when there are many. Not to mention, who delivers to the region of the city you are staying in? Ultimately, we chose Sals. ...Sigh... No better than any national chain we could have gotten at home, and VERY expensive for what you get. Not recommended, at least not from this KY gal.
google avatar

TJ G.

Yelp
A nice place to get some comfort food and really get a carb coma going. Decent prices, nice and friendly staff. Buffalo wild wings tasted like Costco's frozen wild wings.
