The 16 Best Ice Cream Shops In San Francisco - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"We probably aren’t the first to tell you that Salt & Straw knows how to make some damn good ice cream. Their lineup of creative flavors range from honey lavender and chocolate malted potato chip cupcake to their even more unexpected monthly-changing flavors like mashed potatoes and gravy. So, if you’re passing by either of their locations in Pacific Heights of Hayes Valley and smell the serotonin-inducing scent of fresh waffle cones, you should definitely stop by." - julia chen 1, lani conway, ricky rodriguez, patrick wong

Salt & Straw Review - Fillmore - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"You’ve probably heard by now that Salt & Straw’s ice cream is pretty damn good. Plus, it’s a near-impossible feat to walk past one of their waffle-cone-scented shops without at least thinking about stopping for a scoop. Their flavors range from standbys like honey lavender, and salted, malted, chocolate chip cookie dough (hits) to monthly-changing flavors like mashed potatoes and gravy (less of a hit) or birthday cake and blackberries. You can order scoops and pints ahead of time online, or stop by to grab some to-go." - Julia Chen

Horn BBQ Finds a Home at Off the Grid Fort Mason - Eater SF

"Portland-based ice cream shop Salt & Straw is kicking off a chocolatier series starting tomorrow, February 1. There will be five new flavors, featuring Northern Californian chocolate companies: Dandelion Chocolate’s cacao fruit sorbet, Dick Taylor’s black figs and Madagascar chocolate, Feve’s chocolate cherry vinegar cordial, TCHO’s cinnamon-spiced milk chocolate crunch, and perhaps more excitingly, NeoCocoa’s black sesame brittle and brown sugar. Find them at Salt & Straw location in Hayes Valley, Pacific Heights, Burlingame, and Palo Alto." - Janelle Bitker

I had one scoop of the goat cheese berry habanero and the coffee and nuts (half half). They were good. Not overly sweet at all. I also tried (sample) olive oil and pear blue cheese. They were good but not distinct flavors for the names. Def come back. Love it. Have outdoor seating. Perfect for a warm sunny day.

Oh man, where do I even start with Salt & Straw? This place is like if a rogue alchemist snuck into a dairy farm and started experimenting with forbidden elixirs. I strolled in with high hopes and emerged victorious with a milkshake that’s basically liquid gold: sea salt caramel as the silky base, crowned with two scoops of their olive oil ice cream. Olive oil in ice cream? It sounds like a madcap plot twist, but it delivers; creamy with a whisper of earthy savoriness that dances with the caramel like old flames rekindling. Each slurp was a symphony of rich, balanced bliss. I felt like I’d unlocked a secret level in the game of desserts. But wait, the drama unfolds: the straw. And hey, “Straw” is literally in their name... talk about irony! This biodegradable bad boy decided to split clean down the middle quicker than a celebrity couple in tabloid headlines. One moment it’s heroically tackling the thick shake; the next, it’s in two pieces, forcing me to improvise like a survivalist in the wilderness. Ended up tilting the cup back like I was toasting the gods. Pro tip: pack a backup straw forged from adamantium, or just lean into the mess. Even with the straw’s split-second betrayal, this was an epic win. Salt & Straw, you’re the flavor wizard I didn’t know I needed. 5 stars, no notes, because who needs perfection when you’ve got pure, chaotic joy? 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

This ice cream shop benefits greatly from its prime location in a key shopping area, close to several city venues, and it does offer a water station and restroom, which are definite pluses. While the shop boasts some interesting and more exotic ice cream flavors that might tempt adventurous palates, the overall experience left something to be desired. The employees were polite and met basic customer service expectations, but their apparent preoccupation with socializing amongst themselves didn't foster a sense of enthusiastic assistance. Parking is also a significant drawback. While street parking is available, the prices felt outrageously high, and the nearest garage is a few blocks away. Perhaps the most unsettling aspect was the emptiness of the store. Despite having shelves and coolers, they were largely bare, giving off an odd, almost going-out-of-business vibe. This unfortunately made the grubbiness of the walls quite noticeable. Personally, the shop felt like it was trying too hard to cultivate a cool and trendy image without fully delivering on it. While the availability of some unique flavors elevates it beyond a three-star rating, the numerous downsides prevent it from reaching a four. It has potential, but it just not there.

I consider this one of those establishments which is too hyped up and also ‘tries too hard’ so ends up being hit or miss. Many flavors, in fact, probably the majority of flavors, are unique and sound interesting but arguably sometimes just taste too weird or downright not yummy. Their limited traditional flavors like chocolate and vanilla are solid. I guess if one is an adventurous type and or bored of the usual flavors, this would be a great place, but those who prefer the standard and or tried and true flavor combos may not find their menu a bit over the top. Luckily, they do allow samples, otherwise it would be difficult and possibly disastrous to commit to an entire serving (which is of course pricey as expected for SF, without trying first.) interior was clean and nice, with 4 stools for seating (there are benches outside as well). Service was friendly and prompt.

Delicious Gelato in San Fransisco. I really love the freckled mint chocolate chip, which is suitable for vegan. The waiters & waitresses are so friendly and fast response. U can ask to try several flavors. There is also free water.

We visited Straw & Salt Ice Cream and tried a total of eight flavors (picture from once they were more then half eaten) First up on the tasting board: Matcha Matcha Man. A really nice matcha with a twist of tangerine juice – super unique. Had it not been evening, I probably would’ve gone for a full scoop. One flavor I had my eye on but didn’t taste (and slightly regret skipping) was the coffee chamomile – sounded awesome. Blue Cheese & Pear was… underwhelming. It felt like a thinly veiled vanilla, trying to be something more but not quite getting there. Of the six full scoops we shared: • Salted Grapefruit Julep: I liked this one. Red grapefruit is my thing, and it reminded me of grapefruit juice with a salted tequila rim. Refreshing, grown-up, and fun. • Sea Salt Caramel Ribbons: I’m usually not a fan of sea salt ice cream, but those caramel ribbons? Just very tasty. Like a reward for climbing a mountain (which, to be fair, it was – Memorial Day victory scoop). • Strawberry Balsamico Black Pepper: This one threw me back to 90s Eastern Europe, to big tubs of Algida. Nostalgic, with a lovely balsamic aftertaste. Unexpectedly charming. • Olive Oil: Interesting texture, but… sorry, Souvla across the street does it better. Their version with flaky sea salt is iconic. This one felt more like a dressed-up vanilla. • Double Fold Vanilla: Honestly, a solid vanilla ice cream. You get those tiny black vanilla specs, a rich and clean taste – classic and good. • Strawberry Coconut Water: It was pink, so the kids loved it. But flavor-wise? A bit too mellow. Coconut water + strawberry didn’t bring much character to the table. Waffle cones? Big yes. They’re made in-store, you can watch the whole charming process. I had one – it was honestly delicious. Might’ve liked it more than the ice cream itself. The kids got a mini cone each (for free!) and seemed just as delighted. Pro tip: Get the flight. With all these creative combos, the flight lets you explore four flavors in small cups that are still a generous portion. Pair that with a waffle cone, and you get the best of both worlds – exploration and crunch.

We went to Teakwood Restaurant for dinner and then took a stroll to Salt & Straw on the next block for dessert. Oh my! Salt & Straw always has long lines. We tried the crowd favorite, Honey Lavender, in a salted brownie waffle cone, but it was just okay - we probably wouldn’t order it again. The other flavor we had was Strawberry Honey Balsamic with Black Pepper, which was definitely an interesting combination with a unique tang. While we were there, we noticed a homeless person coming in and grabbing pints as if it were his own fridge. It was quite sad! I suppose this is a common sight in SF.

Great ice cream and very nice staff. They even ask if you prefer a specific order for the scoops 😮. Sea salt was my favorite

Yelp
We were strolling through Hayes Valley on a Saturday evening. Great places to eat around there. They had live music in the streets too. Towards the end of the walk, we got hit with the smell of freshly made waffle cones. It smelled so good. We followed the smell to Salt & Straw. We noticed other people smelled it too because the place was getting pretty packed. It a cute spot with merch and ice cream. There's a security guard by the merch so it doesn't feel as approachable. I got in line. By the time I was called up, I didn't get to read the whole menu, but I ended up trying the one I wanted to get which was the coffee and nuts. It was so good I also tried the salted caramel ribbon and that was really good. A bit on the sweet Side. They'll let you sample a taste with these mini metal spoons. Then you drop it in a little spoon shoot when you're done. As they get your ice cream ready, they ask you to wait by the register to pay. The ice cream was so good and plentiful. We enjoyed it along the window inside.

Yelp
As always great rotation of monthly flavors and friendly, efficient staff I got the kid scoop size which was still plenty! Huckleberry Cornbread Pudding was nice and fruity with a bit of tart and texture from the cornbread. This was a well balanced ice cream Sampled these flavors: Goat Cheese Marionberry Habanero: you really have to enjoy the savory goat cheese flavor in the cold ice cream, then back of the taste has a little spicy heat Oshii Strawberry Pretzel: tasted too strong of cream cheese and not enough strawberry, but also was a bit too sweet for my palate

Yelp
When I told my son, we were going to salt and straw for ice cream he was less than impressed. I told him not to mind the name, and that he would love the ice cream. The staff is super nice here, never felt rushed or hurried, and we got to try some of the neatest flavors. Definitely worth a stop.

Yelp
After trying S&S years ago in San Diego and falling completely in love, I always try and make a special trip to their scoop shops when I am on the West Coast. I know I can order pints from their site to ship to me, but at $15/pint I tend to just enjoy it for the treat that it is IRL when I can. I think my ice cream palate (and the ice cream boutique ice cream scene in general) has come a long way since 2019 when I last had Salt and Straw, or this scoop shop was simply having an off day. Everything I tried lacked the knockout flavor punch I expected. What I used to think was cohesive and thoughtful now just seems a little experimental for experiments sake. I went with the salted malted cookie dough and snickerdoodle options. There were so few mix ins and such boring flavor profiles in both scoops that I actually ended up throwing away some of my $9 dish while walking SFs steep hills. This could be a case of way too high of expectations meeting reality, but I also do think something gets compromised in expansion. Overall - it was fine! It's a fine spot to get ice cream if you want to enjoy the amazing neighborhood and take a walk. I will stick to my local churners here in Philly-land when the ice cream cravings hit, but grateful for the team at this location for the samples and service.

Yelp
Love the ice cream here. They are gracious about taste testing and friendly towards the kiddos. Happy to see they have merchandise again since last time they had nothing and we saw someone come in off the street and take a pint and walk out. The seasonal specials are an extra treat but the stable flavors are excellent. They keep it clean. Nice they use real metal spoons for the taste tests and my kids like to put them down the used test spoons down the chute.

Yelp
Salt & Straw is one of my favorite places to get ice cream here in the city! Ice Cream: I've been to this and other locations and the texture of their ice cream is really unbeatable (I love chewy ice cream that has a bite). The saltiness also makes the ice cream taste extra sweet. Although some of their flavors, especially on their monthly menu series, can be a hit or miss, there's always something to like! My Favorite Flavors: My favorite year-round flavors are their Chocolate Gooey Brownie (perfect for chocolate-lovers like me) and their Peanut Butter Brittle Caramel Fudge (you can't even tell it's vegan). As for my favorite seasonal ice cream, it's hands-down the Huckleberry Cornbread Pudding (tastes like a berry crumble made with cornbread)! This time, my friend and I got the peanut butter brittle caramel fudge and their strawberry tres leches (one of their May seasonal flavors). Cones: Their waffle cones are made fresh in-house and are always so crispy! They sometimes also have a seasonal waffle cone, like their pumpkin-spice one in the fall or more recently, their salted brownie waffle cone. They also have sugar cones or you can simply get your scoop in a cup. Service: Salt & Straw can be really busy and often has a line going out the door. However, the staff have always been so friendly, quick, and helpful! There was one time when my scoop slid off my cone and on the ground right when I started eating. I awkwardly went up to the staff, and before I said anything, the staff working at the register so sweetly offered to give me another scoop. Definitely do yourself a favor and try their ice creams if you haven't already!

Yelp
Love the flavors at Salt & Straw and this location in Hayes is perfect! Recently we stopped by during their summer pie series and I debated between the gruyere and tomato custard tart and wild berry pie flavors. Loved the flavor of the tomato pie which was super interesting and unique but ended up getting the more classic wild berry pie which was a great mix of sweet and tart with pie pieces mixed in. Such a great post-dinner treat!

Yelp
This might be hot take but I didn't find Salt and Straw to be anything special. My friend and I came at on a Monday night and there were a decent amount of people here. Joey served us and let me try different flavors. I found a lot of them to be too potent or not enough flavor.. there was no in between. I got a split scoop and got potato chip cupcake flavor and the strawberry coconut sorbet. It was a good balance of too much (potato chip) vs not enough flavor (sorbet).

Yelp
Love!!! They have flagship flavors as well as a list of seasonal flavors, and they have a good mix of "more classic" v. really spunky flavors. They also have several vegan options. I ordered a single split scoop -- a vegan one with peanut butter, and a seasonal one (cornflakes with marionberry jam). It was like a cup of pb&j! They are also very generous with their samples, and I love that they use metal spoons. Definitely recommend a visit!

I reqlly like the ice cream , people are asked me for try the ice cream thats easy for choose the ice cream and the ice cream was really nice and big

Yelp
This was my first time there, and I must say that Salt & Straw has been added to my all-time favorite ice cream shops. Despite the long lines and the "can I try" tastings, the efficient staff keeps the line flowing. Even though I know everything is more pricey these days, it's good to have a place like this where the portions fit the cost. For my lactose intolerant peeps, they have excellent vegan options as well. BB

Yelp
Salt and Straw is the best chain ice cream for me! Classic flavors are always done well (favorite is honey lavender), and the seasonal flavors are always so interesting!
google avatar

Jessica L.

Yelp
One of my favorite ice cream places! Wish they had this in Chicago. I sampled the honey lavender and instantly fell in love!! I typically don't like lavender because it tends to taste artificial but this one was very light and refreshing. I also tried the pear & blue cheese. Equally as amazing. I didn't love for the blue cheese pieces but I didn't hate it either.

Yelp
After grabbing food at The Bird, I couldn't resist stopping by Salt & Straw right next door for some ice cream. They never disappoint! I ended up with the Lavender Honey, which is my go to, after sampling a few other flavors which were also very good. What surprised me was that they let us do a split scoop in two cups! We were a little full from dinner so it was a nice surprise that they were so accommodating! The staff was super friendly and patient, even though we took our time trying a bunch of their creative flavors. If you're in the area, treat yourself to both The Bird and Salt & Straw. It's the perfect one-two punch of comfort food and dessert!

Yelp
I just got home from treating myself to a nice and cold ice cream. The mint chocolate chip ice cream I had was excellent. It was nice and cold going down. The service was very friendly and the overall ambiance of the place was very nice for an ice cream place. I can see myself coming back here again someday. 5 stars
google avatar

Yelp
The ice cream was great, I tried some weird chocolate malted potato chip flavor and some other random one (forgot which flavor). It was quite good with a good dark chocolate main flavor, but the flavor was a tad bit salty for me. The flavors weren't my favorite but I do like trying their seasonal special flavors when they rotate them. Our server was great though and even though we asked for a split scoop he gave practically a double scoop.
google avatar

Claire W.

Yelp
Salt & Straw is one of those places I get why people love--it just doesn't quite do it for me. The waffle cone smell wafting out the door? Genius. They've got the marketing game locked down, and their seasonal flavors are definitely eye-catching. But once I actually try the ice cream, the flavors either feel kind of "meh" or veer into "this is a little too weird for me" territory. I can appreciate their creativity, but it's not what I'm craving when I want great ice cream. That said, the location is perfect--right in the heart of Hayes Valley, so it's a fun stop while you're exploring the area. But in a city with so many incredible ice cream spots, this one doesn't make my personal top tier. I can appreciate it from afar, but I'll be heading elsewhere for my next scoop.

Yelp
Now I know what rave is all about Salt & Straw. The moment you step your foot you're suddenly engulfed with that wonderful sweet smell which is so addictive. First, I ask to taste several ice cream offerings so I can settle which one wins me over. Servers are friendly, patient and fast in spite of people in line. Since it's fall season they have pumpkin and apple inspired ice cream creation. But since a chocolate lover I decided to get Chocolate gooey brownie in a cup. The flavor is so blissfully sweet delicious you can literally taste chocolate and brownie mashed up in a cute cup no nasty aftertaste. My sister also loves her coffee ice cream. Hey Salt & Straw you won our hearts out loud!!!
google avatar

Elise N.

Yelp
Got the split scoop of the Great Candycopia and the Jack o' Lantern Pumpkin Bread. It was basically two full scoops! Both flavors were delicious: the pumpkin was perfectly spiced and the candycopia creamy and crunchy. It's nice that they offer unlimited samples and bonus points for their cool reusable sampling spoon set up.

Yelp
The Salt & Straw empire just keeps growing and growing thanks to their second location in the city of San Francisco and one in a neighborhood that truly knows what a delicious sweet treat really means. Located on the corner of Hayes and Laguna Streets in what is still a relatively new condominium complex in the trendy Hayes Valley neighborhood, Salt & Straw blends perfectly in a neighborhood that has a variety of shops, restaurants and even other ice cream shops that are thriving thanks to the theatre area being mere blocks away. Also adding to the neighborhood's overall pastiche is Salt & Straw's well-known exotic seasonal ice cream flavors made with locally sourced ingredients from their home state of Oregon which is churned to perfection thanks to their team's ability to max out the ice cream's butterfat content which gives their ice cream a more lush texture. Their ice cream just tastes a little different, and thanks to the continually rotating menu, it keeps both loyal and new customers coming back for more and more! I have previously been to Salt & Straw's other location on the peninsula in the Bay Area region and have walked around the Hayes Valley neighborhood a number of times looking for a sweet treat post shopping or dining. Thankfully my trusty Yelp app helped alert me to this second location in the city being open one sunny weekend afternoon that I happen to be running errands in the neighborhood, and what better way to satiate my sweet craving than to see what Salt & Straw had to offer on this particular visit. Walking in, I was surprised to see a lack of any customers, as practically all of the other locations that I have been to have been packed with ice cream lovers waiting to get their free samples with their metal spoons that customers conveniently return through a hole in their countertop. My first visit here occurred around the Halloween season, the Limited Edition Flavors had a number of options that combined various candy flavors and their slow-churned ice cream. After sampling a few flavors, I determined that their Great Candycopia which was made with salted butterscotch ice cream mixed with homemade Kit Kats, Reeses, Snickers, and Health Bar pieces. It was the butterscotch flavor that always does it for me with its rich and sweet creaminess that comes with every lick and bite, when combined with some of my favorite candy treats, it makes for the perfect flavor profile. Of course no visit to Salt & Straw goes without a return visit, especially when there was no line the first time I ventured here, so I was back months later this time with friends after enjoying a dinner nearby. The Limited Edition Flavors menu now had more flavors geared towards the winter season in which we arrived, and I was able to try both their Marionberry Oatmeal Cobbler and Coconut Cake & Pineapple Jam flavors. There was something about a third flavor, their Bananas Foster with Candied Pecans, whose goal is to recreate a signature flavor of New Orleans by simmering ripe bananas, dark rum, brown sugar, and spices into a rich caramel. After being drizzled into a banana-infused coconut cream and mixing in crunchy bites of candied pecans helped to add a touch of nutty bitterness. The perfect scoop of ice cream on a sugar cone for the still reasonable price of $6.75 per scoop which shows that even with the price of ingredients going up exponentially even since my last visit Salt & Straw is keeping things grounded with their special ice cream scoops made with real ingredients and earnestness. Here's to hoping that their expansion continues throughout the Bay Area for many more years to come!

Yelp
Incredibly yummy ice cream. The employee let me try so many flavors, even suggesting a few after hearing my comments about what I liked. I don't think you can go wrong with any flavor, just choose the one that's right for you. All the flavors I tried had a nice rich flavor, creamy in texture, and deep in taste. The restaurant is small without any seating, but there's a park nearby to sit and enjoy your ice cream with friends!
google avatar

Karen M.

Yelp
One of my favorite ice cream spots in the city - my favorite flavors are the honey lavender and the coffee & love nuts. They honey lavender is sweet, light and floral without tasting like soap. The chocolate coated pecans swirled with the coffee ice cream is a perfect blend with just the right amount of crunch.
google avatar

Jessica T.

Yelp
I love ice cream. I like salt and straw. Sometimes I feel it is too sweet. The kids size is the perfect portion for me. This was my first time getting a waffle cone, and it was the limited edition flavor. It was yummy but not warm. I love that they rotate flavors months and always have vegan options that don't feel like a lazy afterthought. The service was quick but there are limited spaces to sit inside.

Yelp
Salt and Straw u'll forever have a place in my heart!! When my best friend introduced me to this ice cream place and when I had the FIRST BITE OMG LIFE CHANGING!!! (ever since then i always come back every month to try out their new flavors) They always come up with unique flavors and always make it taste how it says it will be! Keep being you salt and straw!

Yelp
Amazing customer service with being so patient and accommodating with all my sample request. The ice cream quality is my personal favorite in the city. They have new flavor each seasons to bring locals back for more surprises. You can order your ice cream to a milkshake and other options. I would recommend the "split single scoop" it's plenty for a grown adult and two. Since it's mostly real ice cream it does melt faster than the generic store bought ones. So get extra napkins in case. The shop is in the lively neighborhood and the facility is pretty clean.
google avatar

Mia T.

Yelp
This is a truly unique ice cream experience. The flavors are super enticing and unlike any other shop. This is not the ice cream shop for people who want the typical ice cream selection. They have unique flavor combinations that showcase things like cornbread, goat cheese, and olive oil! I sampled just a few before ultimately selecting the Cinnamon Snickerdoodle. It had chunks of cookie pieces in it and the flavor was absolutely addicting. I enjoyed my sample taste of the honey lavender as well. They give you the choice of a cup, cake cone, or waffle cone. You can even get multiple scoops of different ice creams if you'd like. Service through the line was quick and they were getting fairly busy. But the staff does well at helping you sample flavors and choose what truly speaks to you. The shop was super cute and right off Hayes St, which is a popular strip in San Francisco. I wish I had a location near me in Florida. This place is too good!
google avatar

Yelp
I want to love Salt & Straw. I love ice cream, and I love the creativity in their flavors. But their ice cream is SO SWEET. They must double or triple the sugar compared to other places. Probably great for kids, but this grownup kinda hates it.
google avatar

Catisha T.

Yelp
The best ice cream I have ever had! I mean the quality of the ice cream and the cone was thick and delicious! I could smell the Ice cream all the way around the corner of the mall. Wish this was in Indiana. The salted caramel was fantastic but I like the fact that they had so many interesting flavors. If you're in the area you should try it!
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped by on a Thursday around 6:20pm to see what monthly flavors they had. There was no wait which was great. It's October so it's fall and Halloween themed. Got to sample 3 different new flavors and ultimately went with the Jack O' Lantern pumpkin bread. 1 scoop in a cup was $6.75. If you are a pumpkin fan, you will love this. The ratio of ice cream to pumpkin bread and frosting was perfectly balanced. I could eat a quart of this.

Yelp
Can't go wrong with salt and straw! We love coming in and trying their seasonal flavors and workers are always friendly and happy to help with whatever you need. This location does get busy but moves quickly

Yelp
As a loyal customer who has ordered from Salt & Straw over 100 times, I was disappointed to find that the Coffee & Love Nuts flavor seems to have changed. The texture feels less creamy and a bit watered down, and there's noticeably fewer love nuts, maybe 50% less. I've always loved Salt & Straw for their creativity and quality, and I still enjoy their other flavors, but this change has taken away what made Coffee & Love Nuts so special. I'm giving 3 stars in the hope they'll consider bringing back the original recipe.

Yelp
I thought I had gone to this Salt and Straw and posted already..Smitten and Salt and Straw..hadn't gotten ice cream in Hayes Valley in a while...got a kid's size for $5.25...pear and blue cheese or so...strange and fun...quick snack...walking around Hayes Valley before Symphony...french fries and ice cream. Different flavors for ice cream..

Yelp
I've been waiting to come here for this month's specials and it did not disappoint. I ended up getting the gingerbread cookie dough which was out of this world - honestly one of my favorite flavors I've ever had. The servers were incredibly kind and patient, letting me sample a few options without making me feel rushed. The scoops were generous, and the overall experience was fantastic. Highly recommend! Definitely worth the line too ;)

Yelp
I don't usually come here for ice cream because the flavors are a bit out of my comfort zone. I'm more of a simple matcha or fruity flavor typa gal but surprisingly this season had some delicious flavors so I had to give it a try. I came here with my partner on a Saturday night and it was pretty crowded but the line goes by fairly quickly, giving you enough time to browse their menu. There's also a couple of seats inside the store to sit and hang with friends too. What caught my eyes was their Jasmine Milk Tea Stracciatella. It's a Jasmine tea-infused ice cream with almonds and chocolate stracciatella. For those who are allergic to tree nuts, I would avoid this. I personally liked it a lot because I love Jasmine tea and it had a super subtle taste, not too overpowering. My partner chose the Chocolate Gooey Brownie and that one was amazing. I tried a smol bite of it and the flavor of the fudgy chocolatey brownie literally melted in my mouf :3 We both tried a couple of other samples of ice cream flavors but we ended up with the Jasmine Milk Tea Almond Stracciatella and Chocolate Gooey Brownie. Usually we would get a single scoop in a cone, but we opted for a kids cup this time. I think it's the perfect amount, especially after eating a full dinner

Yelp
I've spent so much money here haha and will continue to patron their dedication to a plethora of revolving flavors. I absolutely love variety and their monthly limited edition flavors hit the spot for me. This month is their boozy flavor collection and I got the Métier's Black Stripe Porter & Bread Pudding and Monkish's Space Cookies & Creamy Hazy IPA flavors. These flavors definitely felt different than their normal flavors with a boozy kick and twist and depth of flavor. The bread pudding had nice crunchy toffee and bread pudding. The space cookies had a nice fruity flavor to it. The texture of both was great. Definitely enjoyed it. Fast service in the afternoon. Def sample some flavors if it's not busy. I'd say this is my third favorite ice cream spot behind Mitchell's and Philmore Creamery but it's the closest to me for great ice cream.

Yelp
I feel ike salt and straw is unfortunately becoming a bit more mainstream  but their ice cream is still yummy ! I came to this location after winning a scavenger hunt in the city and ordered a pumpkin spice tiramisu. I love both pumpkin-spice flavored things and tiramisu-flavored thigns, so this was an interesting flavor to try ! I will say though, it tasted more like just a pure pumpkin spice flavor, but was delicious nonetheless. The line was long but it moved quickly, and the employees were friendly but trying to do their job. There also is not much seating at all I think, it's pretty much just the line. I would totally be down to come here again though to try whatever unique/seasonal flavor may be on the menu !

Yelp
I used to love the ice cream selection here a lot. But my recent visit here was pretty disappointing. The past few years I found the ice cream selection very boring and taste really weird. What a shame.

Yelp
Salt & straw delivers every time! As an ice cream lover, salt & straw dependably scoops some of the best ice cream I've ever had. From unique seasonal flavors to classic vanilla, they do it all. The ice cream is creamy, not too sweet, and chock full of quality mix-ins. I recently tried one of their fall specialities, apple pie vs pumpkin pie, and the crust in the ice cream was delicious. Expect ten-ish minute waits on evenings, but the line generally moves quickly. There's limited seating inside, and a single bench outside the store, so I'd recommend visiting during non-peak hours if you want to stop and eat in-store. Like other locations, they do dog-friendly ice cream cups and pints to go!

Yelp
The cinnamon snickerdoodle flavor is AMAZING! Nate is super friendly and funny and he let me try any flavor. 10/10 recommend going here.

Yelp
Pit stop here at around 9:30 pm yesterday (Sunday). It wasn't too busy and the line went by fast. Pretty in line with what my experiences at other Salt and Straw locations werelike. I tried the limited flavors of the month and they were pretty interesting as usual. I got the candy cornucopia, which was butterscotch with a bunch of different chocolate candy pieces!

Yelp
I wasn't greeted by anyone in any particular way when I first walked in. When I walked up to the freezer, the girl that worked there just kind of gave me the stink eye for no apparent reason. She had a lime green beanie on her head. With this type of attitude I'm surprised anyone wants to go here for ice cream. I was at the Fillmore St shop earlier today with my kids and the guy behind the counter was helpful in giving us tasters but when it came down to it, when I asked if he could split a kid's scoop it was a hard no, but then there was no follow up, like I could give you a single split. I had to ask that additional question to get him to say ok. He charged me for the cone and wasn't friendly. So all in all, my neighbor Salt n Straw and the Hayes Valley branch are lackluster. It's too bad, because good ice cream is hard to find these days. Customer service definitely needs work!

Yelp
I'm slightly obsessed with going to Salt & Straw to try their rotating flavors. They're a unique concept and company with such scrumptious and creative scoops of ice cream! As someone who doesn't eat dairy, it makes me love them even more with their vegan options. I frequent their Pac Heights location but my companion and I chose to visit their shop in Hayes Valley after dinner. Similar to their other locations service and ambiance are the same. Expect long lines that go by fast, efficient service with unlimited samples, and a small shop with a few seats that operate more as take-out. When I learned that January's flavors were all vegan I was animated; hallelujah for dairy-free decadence. On this visit, I got a Single Split Scoop of the Red Velvet with Cream Cheese Frosting and Marionberry Oatmeal Cobbler. Split scoops are my go-to as you can get the best of two flavors in one! Both scoops were filling, creamy, and perfectly sweet! The red velvet had bits of cake inside while the marionberry oatmeal reminded me of a pie. My companion enjoyed his ice cream as well and let me try some which I liked. As a Salt & Straw lover, I'll never pass up the opportunity to visit or try a new location. Their location in Hayes Valley is perfect for those in the area. It's located off Hayes Street with parking nearby. I'll be back since it's the perfect dessert spot after dinner.

Yelp
This was a great ice-cream cone. A ton of interesting flavor options and really enjoyed the honey lavender. It had a sublet yet complex flavor. But is definitely on the lighter side of "creamy" scale for ice-cream.

Yelp
Ice cream shop with very unique options of ice cream flavors Very limited indoor and outdoor seating Although they have lots of interesting options, the ones that my GF and I tried were all underwhelming. They also don't have any classic flavors Very tasty homemade waffle cones They serve ice cream samples in reusable silverware that you deposit back into a little slit in the counter that re-collects them to clean

Yelp
Came by for a quick treat after dinner nearby - it was pretty busy around 8pm and there was a bit of queue (but it moved quickly). My friend and I ordered a double scoop of the banana bread and salted caramel to share (I don't remember the exact flavour names haha). Portion size was pretty good, I suppose all ice cream parlours are somewhat pricey so it wasn't too bad for $8.50. The salted caramel was great - not too sweet, rich caramel flavour - definitely would recommend. The banana bread we actually had sampled, and it was pretty good too, although I do think it was a bit heavier than expected (obviously you can't tell from sample) and it's easy for the flavour to get a bit tiresome (容易吃膩).  All in all, a decent place to get a quick dessert, I do appreciate the interesting selection of unique flavours, but some of them did seem a bit gimmicky to me lol.

Yelp
I've been to other Salt & Straw locations, but I recently decided to swing by this one after catching a whiff of their sweet waffle cones from a block away, and caught interest in their seasonal flavors. For those who don't know, Salt & Straw offers tons of unique original flavors and rotates seasonal ones, all top-notch quality. This location had a small area to order, but also had a few spots to enjoy your ice cream. The person who helped us wasn't the friendliest, but they did let us sample two flavors before settling on the Fran's Chocolate Almond Gold Bar. While I was expecting more chocolate, it was packed with a lot of caramel drizzle, almost overwhelming. It reminded me of a toffee caramel chocolate bar, with delightful pieces of almond chunks. It was super sweet but incredibly tasty--I thoroughly enjoyed it. If you haven't checked this place out yet, definitely give it a try!

Yelp
Really cute ice cream shop with a lot of unique flavors. They have some seasonal and some that are leaving soon. They offer samples of their current flavors and it's on nice mini metal spoons. I tried the pistachio rose water which was light and floral. The cacao pulp flavor was a little on the acidic side but very unique. I ended up with the Jasmine milk tea with almond stracciatella and it was delightful! Very bold tea flavors and true to the jasmine taste. Lots of crunchy cookie bits and creamy texture. It was delicious!
