"A favorite of the legislative set, this restaurant in the heart of downtown Juneau has a warm atmosphere and is a very good place to have a martini – you may be able to sample local Almaga gin – and local oysters, or if it suits you, a sturdy ribeye. Locals appreciate the  full bar with a very serviceable cocktail menu and extensive wine list. Private group spaces. Reservations recommended in summer." - Julia O'Malley

Jaime was our server and he was super helpful with recommendations. The food was superb. GOAT cheese and fig appetizer was to die for. Brussels were perfect. And let me tell you the buttery sablefish was amazing. Crème brûlée to top it off. 🥰

Google
Food was great, portions were generous (to the price tag) and friendly servers. We had ribeye, seafood pappadille, halibut and all tasted wonderful.

Google
Neat yummy eats and sips experience Dinners are always delicious, and the menu has a few vegetarian options. Customer service is always the best, super friendly and knowledgeable on offerings. Pretty busy place, and you may want to make reservations.

Google
Beautiful restaurant and ambience. Wine met our expectations. The service was excellent and friendly. We enjoyed the crab bisque very much. It was very satisfying with lots of crab meat. We also like the Caprese salad. The main course which was king salmon with sides of vegetables felt short, especially considering the price of the dish. ($52) It was cooked fine, but it was nothing special. The side carrot felt like coming out of packaged baby carrot in the grocery store and was not fine-dining quality. The dessert was just ok. We had a good time. However, considering the high price, we had way better food at this price point.

Google
We had a beautiful experience. Our table enjoyed the fried green tomatoes, pear Gorgonzola salad and the bisque. The pear is poached in Chardonnay! For entrees we had the pasta, salmon, halibut and tortellini. And the chocolate torte for dessert. Our server was excellent; she kept things moving. We celebrated our anniversary here and it is a beautiful memory!

Monica Stauffer

Google
The staff were so friendly and very helpful on any questions about the dish. The food was divine and presentation was beautiful. The aesthetics of the food doesn’t take away from the flavor at all.

Google
Wow! The food, especially the vegetables, is delicious. Augustus was a great server. Kitchen was fast. We had an amazing time. Calamari, salad, soup, fish, pasta, burger, all were top notch.

Went with a party of 8 from a cruise ship during the middle of the week, not one problem. The food was fantastic, portions were perfect for us, and had an overall excellent experience. Wheelchair-friendly restaurant, would go back anytime.

Yelp
My husband took us for dinner at Salt because our niece was kind enough to let us stay with her because "we're her favorites "

Yelp
Never had a bad experience at salt. I celebrated my 21st birthday here. I celebrated my one year anniversary here with my partner. I celebrated my 22nd birthday here. And I've been there a time or two just for fun. Every waitress I've ever ever had has been a super amazing. They've always given the best advice on what to get, been super honest about their menu. And always recommend great drink pairings with the food. The restaurant in general is just gorgeous, the ambience is so inviting and just stunning. Here are a list of my favorite things to eat at salt. Apps -- gnocchi -- steak tartar Soups and salads -- French onion soup -- Caesar salad Mains -- filet mignon -- lamb -- salt burger -- king salmon Desserts -- caramel apple brown butter cake -- and I don't know the name of it, but it's some type of like moose with cherries and alcohol infused berries that's delicious If you plan on coming to Juno or you want a special date night, I 100% recommend going to salt! You will not be disappointed with anything that you get.

Drew D.

Yelp
This can be a great restaurant. Please put a description of the meals. Not just Lamb. Steak. Please don't make your servicers described every fish.

Yelp
March 2023. Honestly I give this place 3 stars because it was so MEDIOCRE for how expensive it is. The crab bisque came with a red lobster biscuit right in the middle of it that you could buy and make yourself from Costco. (No authenticity). The calamari was so boring. Nothing wonderful and came with cocktail sauce that I could buy from Walmart. 0/10 on that. The crab bisque was extremely filling and a large portion, it was good but not spectacular. The filet was the best thing I had all night. However still mediocre. Basic baked potato. Best thing on the plate was the butternut squash. For a $60 dollar dish I expected more. Ps. I will note that I believe because it's the off season that they have the B team working the kitchen. I feel like during peak tourist season they bring in the A team Chefs and the food is probably better. This place was highly recommended by friends and I was expecting much more for the price I paid. Service on the other hand was great. Not one thing bad to say about the servers or bartender. Ambiance was nice as well. Quiet, romantic, and easy access. Just wish the food was better.

Yelp
I just had dinner recently here and it was fabulous. Though their menu has gotten smaller, what they do serve is very good. I notice this in several restaurants since the COVID pandemic. I had the oysters rockefeller and lamb tenderloin. They were delicious. I plan to go back again in the future.

jenna s.

Yelp
very expensive and had high expectations better off eating at the hanger on the warf lol same food quality

Suzanne G.

Yelp
The food was good , the staff snooty at first. Easy to find. Nice atmosphere. I purposely ordered the duck as the described it withe a " blood-orange reduction sauce. There aren't any blood oranges in Alaska. I call bs on the description

Rob B.

Yelp
This place is overrated. 1. Service was slow 2. Lamb chops arrived raw 3.gin and tonic had no lime 4. Drink was mixed up. 5. Charged 3%for cc use. Who has cash 6. Shrimp crab salad was quite bland. Had to ask for lemon. 7. Place was empty but they said we could only come at 7:30. All of Juneau is over priced and too crowded with cruise ships. Good place to get Covid.

John N.

Yelp
The appetizer of the calamari and the bartender were top-notch. The king salmon their prized dinner entrée was worse than cat food, tasted very Skunky. Highly recommend not eating any entrées from this place. $150 down the drain

Mackenzie B.

Yelp
I was seriously surprised! The cost of food was not very expensive for what we ordered. I ordered Lamb Tenderloin, which was absolutely delicious! My husband ordered the Linguine and Clams (hell most likely post a review with photo). It was cozy and warm in the restaurant. Our server was very friendly and checked on us several times to make sure we were satisfied.

Jaden B.

Yelp
I came in at a very slow time when they were just opening, so everything I ordered which was the Halibut for dinner and the strawberry shortcake for dessert, came quick and snappy. The halibut cooked at medium well which was the bar managers recommendation was like butter and tasted like fisherman's heaven. The shortcake wasn't a cake but instead cookie with strawberry sauce and frosting in the middle. I enjoyed it. It is high-end which is probably why they open at 5PM and recommend reservation. From the ambiance, to the service and show they put on, the bill came out to about $80 this included tip and taxes, without tip it came out to almost $70. Restaurants like these want you to crave more as that is the culture, of course there is controversy into all of it as you may not like that style. Although great food and service, expensive and not big portion sizes at all. Good bar scenery in the heart of downtown.

Stacy S.

Yelp
We had Valentine's dinner here (yes, I'm terribly delinquent in posting) and really enjoyed the food and service. Salt would definitely be on our list for future visits to Juneau, especially for a romantic evening out.

Jessica B.

Yelp
Not sure why this place has such a low rating: we really enjoyed! Cool space, attentive service, HUGE portion sizes. It is pricey, but not bad value. They use backlit menus, which is brilliant for dark dining rooms! The Pear Gorgonzola Walnut salad was really good. Barely any dressing and none really needed. The grilled avocado was fascinating and Kate really liked it -- I don't love do fried flour chips, but the combo of feta (the "cotija" element) and avocado and pico with a little sweetness from agave... Great flavors. My prosciutto wrapped scallops were perfectly cooked and well balanced. Brian's lamb lollipops we're great, with a good sauce. The pork chop was delectable -- good char at the corners. The vegetable Wellington was so creative and chock full of roasted veggies, but just a little doughy. Both desserts were dynamite: a decadent and perfectly rich chocolate torte (plenty for 4 of us!) and Strawberry Romanoff Parfait, which actually complimented the torte (is just saucy strawberries and whipped cream). Sneaky fave of the meal: the olive bread and butter. I'm a sucker for olive bread :)

Kristin T.

Yelp
Went here last week. Service was impeccable and the food was delicious! The pear-fection cocktail was to die for and the scallops were AMAZING. Great experience all around.

Tom E.

Yelp
This is the place for a romantic or special evening out in Juneau - I've asked the locals. Impressive culinary skills and presentation for a city of 30,000. Perfect ambience with dim lights and dark cozy colors. Bread plate was appetizing with kalamata olive bread. Prosciutto-wrapped scallops were delicious (more delicate than their bacon-wrapped cousins.) Butcher's cut (hangar steak) was delicious, tender, and nicely seasoned, and accompanied by perfect jalapeno mashed potatoes. The "frutti di marre" assorted seafood platter was delicious and fresh, colorful and tasty.

Mila P.

Yelp
Super amazing drinks, the deliciously rich food comes in large portions, the drinks are exceptional and bartenders are nice! We stopped there three times just for drinks!

Christine E.

Yelp
Incredible food, delightful ambiance, delicious drinks. There is nothing that isn't amazing, except that you really need reservations if you want to go during cruise ship or legislative seasons. House made pastas with local seafood are always to-die-for!

Kay R.

Yelp
Service and the restaurant itself A*. Drinks solid B. Food would be a D at best. Desserts are way too sweet and the food was horrifically overpriced for its Applebees quality.

Jill D.

Yelp
My favorite place to eat in town. Food is fresh and creative. Atmosphere and service are phenomenal!

Ginette P.

Yelp
While visiting my friend mentioned this place since it's supposed to be the "nice" dinning option in Juneau, first try we made an rsvp which we later cancelled since our plans changed then the last night we decided to stop By since when we called they said they had no rsvp we figured pop in & see if we got lucky.. well we were seated in the downstairs area while we were seated there were maybe 6-8 tables from which 1 maybe was sat down while we ate .. no idea why "they are full" & yet no one was at the restaurant. Drinks to start had some White wine not bad, beer & martini all decent. Appetizers no complimentary bread was served seems like this is a hit or miss option what I gathered from previous reviews. We had the Calamari it was decent but they give u just a few pieces kinda unreal because of the $18 dollar price tag I mean come on they should give u more. Main dishes I had the Steak w veggies & salad this was pretty good, decent sauce hubby had the Salmon decent but not worth the price tag. Also Tried the Pappardelle pasta w chicken , which my friend had ahh this was not good she was feeling quite bloated after , her hubby had the Pork chop was not bad. Nice place, I can see why it's supposed to be fine dinning but it's really more like ok food that is HIGHLY overpriced, the most expensive dinner we had while visiting Juneau & it was not the most memorable.

Yelp
Ok so first, a little background. Salt was recommended to my Dad and I by a friend that lives in Juneau. We went to check it out although, unfortunately, the large plate menu wasn't available until 5pm. So, we decided to make a reservation for the following night and find a place to eat in town. Ha-ha-ha that turned out to be laughable as four cruise ships were docked. There were tourists everywhere and not only were all of the dining options packed but they truly seemed like tourist traps. We walked around the pier area for nearly an hour... When 5pm rolled around we found ourselves back at Salt for a great meal, after all. I ordered the salmon and halibut crab/fish croquettes for an appetizer while my Dad had the deviled egg appetizer. For my entree I feasted on the filet mignon. I thought the food was well presented and really cooked to perfection. We even treated ourselves with ordering a delectable dessert. From the time we were seated to leaving, we had a great experience. Our waitress was a treat - super friendly and attentive. The prices were a bit on the steep side but well worth it for the great food we had. I would definitely dine here again in addition to recommending it to others.

Josh A.

Yelp
Everything was excellent! I can't understand why there aren't more 4 and 5 star reviews for this place? This was our first time in Juneau so I didn't really have any expectations about the food. But Salt definitely exceeded them! The food was delicious. The service was attentive. And the atmosphere is great. A good vibe and excitement without being too noisy. We had: Brie and champagne fondue Oysters -- excellent! Halibut -- best dish we had! Salmon -- amazing sauce cooked perfectly

Kenneth S.

Yelp
I travel to Juneau occasionally, never had a problem getting into Salt when I do. I came j tonight around 6:40ish it was not super busy. But for a party of one I was told I could wait to see if a spot at the bar opened up but that's all the 'Host' who I waited for 5-6 mins to show up to her station. Could do for me, there was a few open tables but I'll give the benefit of the doubt because they could've had reservations but after waiting 10 mins I left because I felt maybe since this time I wasn't in my usual suit and tie git up. Maybe my next trip I'll give them another chance but tonight I was turned off.

Judy N.

Yelp
Strong 4! We started with the Cheese & Charcuterie plate, which was really nice. I had the Alaskan Halibut with the salsa verde puree and it was cooked perfectly. The puree made it! The Roasted Cauliflower was the best side. Again, travelling on business and entertaining. 2 out of the 4 of us got steaks. One got the Dry Aged Ribeye and the other got the Filet Mignon both said their's were really good. My coworker got a cold salad, Roasted Brussel Sprouts and Apples, it wasn't a hit with her, but for the most part it was very enjoyable. Everyone got their own wine, I got a Cabernet, the others got either a Rose or a Pinot Noir. It was a good time and the atmosphere here is very cool.

Paulina R.

Yelp
Went for my birthday day, nice ambience, servers are nice. Our drinks were good, French 75 could have used more pizazz. Got the ginger salmon for our main and it had good flavor and presentation was on point. The gorgonzola salad was average, they did bring us some yummy local olive bread that was delicious. We were excited about the pistachio creme Brulee but it was a just a creme brulee with a sprinkle of pistachio. Great creme brulee but not what we expected. Overall good dinner but maybe a bit over priced for what you get?

Alex C.

Yelp
I'm not sure at what point Salt started going down the drain, but it has. I got the bone-in ribeye with the "baby wedge salad". It is exactly as it is described: a quarter wedge of lettuce with some ranch dressing on top and sprinkled with what must be chopped tomatoes and onions. To say that it was incredibly underwhelming doesn't even begin to describe what I felt when the "salad" was put in front of me. It was all I could think of the entire time. The dressing was nothing special either. I've had plenty iterations of Salt's ribeye and could say that it has had many amazing sides before. It is a shame because the steak was cooked amazingly but this side was nothing short of lazy. The rest of our order comprised of the truffle fries which was pretty great, the Wild Alaskan Ginger Salmon that was a little undercooked, and for dessert we had the parfait and the crème brûlée. Both of the desserts were okay. As for the service, it was good but nothing spectacular. I could tell our server was struggling with the heat, as so did we. It would've been nice to have some fans going or some AC. Would I come back? Probably. I just wish the food was a little bit more amazing for what it's priced. Bring the old Salt back!

Sarah C.

Yelp
Oh my - so wonderful. The food was superb. Best part of the evening was the table-side preparation of the bananas foster by the Chef-Owner. He was delightful; explained every step in such a down home way "this crepe batter is like a light pancake batter...just like I make for my kids on Sunday." Highly recommended.

Stewart F.

Yelp
Come with money to spend and no expectations. Some of the food was good and some was bad. Sad when the french fries are crappy. Service was fine but couldn't answer questions about the dishes and contents. Convenient location.

Mari P.

Yelp
Ate there twice. First night my daughter got the sable fish, it was great. I ordered the Halibut dish. While they did a good job with the halibut, not overcooking it, the sauce for the rice was not good at all. I thought maybe it was just my tastebuds but my daughter said the same thing. It was almost a vinegar taste to it, not palatable for us. But I figured just maybe not my thing. The second night we got the King Salmon and the Cauliflower steak. The cauliflower steak wasn't anything special but the salmon was really disappointing. Maybe it was just the piece itself as it was a very thin piece of salmon, the tail piece, so maybe it was just over cooked but it was also lukewarm when arrived at the table and the sauce cold so that didn't help. The sauce itself, a garlic saffron was very bland, I couldn't taste any garlic and the forbidden rice seemed a little over cooked. The cauliflower steak arrived hot so I am guessing it was lack of coordination with the cook for my colder dish. For dessert, the apple butter cake was absolutely excellent. The atmosphere is very nice, the service is great, very nice staff but the food could use some improving. At least I would not recommend ordering the salmon.

Benjamin M.

Yelp
Hey! If in juneau and looking for something other than alaskan king crab enjoy some gourmet at Salt. The owner, ceo, cfo, chef does it all! The steak Diane was awesome and Chef made it table side. The staff was just as awesome and the drinks as well. And don't forget the Bananas foster!

Kevin C.

Yelp
Certainly one of the premier restaurants in Juneau, Alaska! Which may not sound impressive at first brunch, but this little city has a number of wonderful bars and restaurants. One of which includes a James Beard finalist award. Very good service as well.

Fabiana K.

Yelp
Superb! The food and ambiance were absolutely phenomenal. I ordered the champagne and brie fondue, followed by a Gorgonzola and brie salad. One of my friends ordered the lollipop lamb chops as an appetizer.

Dov L.

Yelp
We walked past this restaurant while wandering around Juneau when we struck up a conversation with a guy leaving the restaurant. He said he lived in Juneau and Salt was the best place according to locals. We came the next night, but the restaurant was pre-booked reservations only, so we found a small table next to the bar. Like most places these days it seemed understaffed but the staff there were working very hard. Jamie the bartender was very friendly, helpful, gracious, but not overbearing. He made terrific drinks and also took our food order, and ensured everything was to our liking. His drink recommendations were spot on as was his mixology. The avocado and Brussels sprout appetizers were very tasty but it got better from there. The salmon was possibly the best we had in Alaska. We weren't planning to get dessert but it was amazing! It was a great meal to end a great trip.

Jeff H.

Yelp
My wife and I had Christmas Eve dinner there and we loved the food, ambiance and service. Not an inexpensive place but the quantity of food and timeliness of service was impressive. For a special occasion I'd recommend Salt and we will go back again.

Kelli L.

Yelp
Incredible ambience and highly-attentive waitstaff (without being too busy or interrupting) in downtown Juneau. Our Oyster Rockefeller was perfect - too often restaurants will just smother it in cheese sauce and heavy spices, but the preparation brought out the freshness of oysters and was the right balance of complex flavors. The halibut special was incredible, with the halibut perfectly cooked and surprising, complimentary spices that gave both a savory experience with a hint of sweet spice (cinnamon?). The wine pairings and mocktails (one of us doesn't drink) were perfect for the meal. Even our creme brûlée had a unique touch on an old classic and was spiced and cooked as I would expect out of 3-diamond Michelin restaurant. TL/DR the food was so delicious, and surprising in complex and complimentary flavors, that I should have been rolled out of the restaurant... And I'm pretty certain their attentive staff would have obliged with that request, too.

Carmella D.

Yelp
I went with a couple of good friends/coworkers and this was our first time eating here. We're locals but never been here. We shared the gnocchi, absolutely delicious. The potatoes were soft and the sauce was smooth and creamy. We also got bread to share and let me say, it was warm and fluffy. Not to mention the butter. The butter was built different as we like to say. A good different. I got the bourbon pork chop. It was delectable. And I'm picky of how my pork chops are. Lol. I've never had my pork chops with cranberry sauce and now it just might be my new favorite pairing. Then my friends and I ended it with the caramel apple brown butter cake with vanilla ice cream. Oooh, *chef's kiss*. Don't listen to everyone else. The prices are worth it. If you don't want to spend a lot, don't come here then. Simple as that. Also, our server, Kate M (got from the receipt and asked her name), was absolutely amazing. Owners, if you see this, she needs a recognition. She always refilled our water and checked in on us. Very rare in this town which I get but still. Anyways, I give this place a 20/10. Definitely going to be back. And if you're wondering if you should visit and you're looking at reviews first like I did before, then you know you should go. It will be worth it. But don't hold me onto this. To each it's own. :) (Posted this on Trip Advisor but just incase no one looks there.)

Nancy H.

Yelp
Such an awesome place in Juneau! I love that Salt is high class and can be fancy, but also has a casual, friendly vibe. I was immediately impressed by the decor, but I was nervous that there were no other customers on a weekend night. Our server was amazing. She was perfectly attentive, friendly, and went above and beyond to make our visit perfect. Salt has an extensive wine list and the server was knowledgeable and helped us find wines that we really loved. To top off the wonderful ambience and the mood, our entrees were delicious. I had the ribeye which was one of the best steaks I have ordered out. We also tried the fried brussel sprouts (AMAZING!) and the charcuterie of the day. We skipped on dessert although there were lots of tempting options. I highly recommend spending a night here for dinner and will definitely be back if we are in Juneau again.

Norbert K.

Yelp
I'm writing this review based on a tasting menu.  We enjoyed delicious Alaska halibut done perfectly and served with shallot and finely shaved spinach over a tomato purée.  It was accompanied by a very nice New Zealand Wither Hills sauvignon blanc from Marlborough.  The dinner menu looks very good, and wine list is small by well appointed. Interior is of a simple modern style.  The staff were quite pleasant.  I'd recommend Salt for a very nice dinner in Juneau.

Mike J.

Yelp
Super friendly & attentive staff, great bar & wine list, excellent food. The fillet mignon was phenomenal

Dan B.

Yelp
Two things that I love at restaurants: 1) eating at the bar when I am alone; 2) when it's obvious that coworkers also like each other Salt had both last night. It's clear the Christian and Jay - along with the rest of the stuff who stopped in at the bar - really like each other. I enjoyed visiting with both of them and hearing how they came to Alaska. Hiring for chemistry must have a strong correlation to great restaurants. I made a meal out of two starters and a side: spicy Brussels sprouts (in attached photo) were among the best I have had; French onion soup; and beet and apply salad, with orange slices. This was a great experience, and I'm glad I followed the recommendation of the Silverbow Inn owner and stopped in here.

Rayna R.

Yelp
Best restaurant we've been to in Juneau. Food is delicious. Had the halibut. Calamari is excellent. Service really good. Nice wine list. Definitely will come here on next trip. Don't miss Apple ice cream dessert.

mona k.

Yelp
Crab bisque. Absolutely the MOST AMAZING thing ever. You must. Make a stop even if unplanned. Literally one of the best bites, with this incredible cheddar biscuit, with the tastiest crab. Will be gone before you know it.

Mary H.

Yelp
The service was good; Meaghan did a very nice job! We were underwhelmed and somewhat disappointed in the taste of our entrees; the presentation and portion size was great, but the actual flavor was subpar. Pricing felt quite steep for quality of the dishes (only the entrees). I started with the French onion soup, and I adored that! No complaints there. For entrees, I had the Mediterranean pasta with the scallops, and the truffle flavor overpowered everything else in it for me; I really wanted it to be a more subtle flavor with maybe some citrus to highlight the scallops, but all I got was truffle. My dad got the Alaskan halibut, and it was good! Nothing to complain about, but nothing to go crazy over either. For dessert, we shared the chocolate torte, and that was classically decadent. My dad got a coffee, which was served in a French press--was a unique touch. Overall, nothing to be torn up about, but we weren't over-the-top thrilled.

Amy F.

Yelp
We had an enjoyable experience. Our food was very good. We had an allergy in the group and had no problems ordering and enjoying our dishes. The desserts looked delicious but we did not indulge.

Leslie H.

Yelp
OMG, what did they serve me?!? From the time we sat down, till the meal showed up most everything was not done well. The wait staff took forever to show up... The bread was stale, the butter was hard... The steak was tough, the asparagus was over cooked... Getting help was impossible, why do I ever think this place will get better? If you sit at the bar, it's not bad. If you want a good restaurant experience, you will be left wanting. Maybe this place should just be a bar and give up trying to be a restaurant; let alone a high end place.

Brianna T.

Yelp
I haven't had a whole lot of dinners in Juneau, but I can easily say this has been my favorite. Truffle fries with duck confit? I'm already sold, and they were SO. DELICOUS. The oxtail pasta was fantastic and so rich, and the steak was perfectly done. Their beet salad may have been my favorite thing on the table, though - beautiful presentation, and the citrus next to the beets was a perfect combination. They have one of the better whiskey selections in town, and their wine list is pretty stellar. Tokaji on the menu was a pleasant surprise. I'll definitely be back.

George L.

Yelp
The quality of service and food wavers, sometimes it's good, sometimes not, hence the lower rating. The atmosphere is still a nice spot to take a special guest, occasion. Coming here doesn't have to break the bank with selective prudent ordering. A tasty burger for USD 15, side of truffle oil fries USD 5. Okay so it's more than twice the price of a Subway sandwich from across the street. You get a wonderful atmosphere.

Ryan S.

Yelp
Owner was very rude and short only giving me one word answers. I was asking if they were open for brunch apparently they don't want my business.

Gabriel C.

Yelp
Very disappointed in both food and service. I ordered the gem salad and while I don't need 8lbs of salad for an appetizer, I would expect a little more in a $12 salad. In fact, I had a $12 airport salad that was better than this. I ordered the salmon for dinner which still had the rubbery skin on it, it was a good cut of salmon, but come on guys. Long story short, way over priced, service was mediocre at best, especially when they mess up iced tea. I won't return.
