Mid to full swing on the pendulum. Brisket and sausage were overly greasy and fatty without exceptional taste. Ribs, on the other hand, were most without being greasy and packed with flavor without being too salty. Top 5 Rib in my experience. Pastor salad was unusual to me and not interesting. It could be a local thing, though, and it didn't taste bad. The cobbler combo is a must-have. Only my grandmother has provided better IMHO. I may go back to try it a-la-mode, but it's outstanding on its own. The dining room is its not a great date location. Outside seating is ample and may suit that need. The small tasting room is more of a wine bar. Lay there seemed knowledgeable. All the staff was friendly and helpful.

Google
The Salt Lick gives a rustic and authentic Texas ambiance with so much beautiful scenery surrounding it. It has both indoor and outdoor seating options. They usually have live music on the patio and it is nice to sit outside when it’s not too hot. The food is 7/10 for me. It is tasty, but always warm/almost cold by the time I get it (my reason for the 4 stars). The cobbler is delicious, definitely recommend. Service is good, and there is usually a wait (especially on weekends). Otherwise, I do enjoy my experience there every time I visit.

Google
amazing food, amazing staff, great overall. we come every time we’re in Austin and we’ve never been let down. i highly recommend the brisket and the pulled pork, both are incredible. most of all the cobbler is a family fave so be sure to grab a bowl or tray!! it’s so good i come all the way just for it. the bread is also fantastic, warm, and perfectly complements everything. the sauce fits nicely over everything. be warned however, any meals with turkey or briskets will cost a dollar extra (due to the market) which is honestly worth the price because of how good the food is. be sure to bring your own beer/wine!! it’s also an amazing option to just to host any events if your looking for a venue. the mac n cheese also isn’t amazing but the potato salad is fantastic. Carolind our server was fantastic as well as luke the hostess- they definitely deserve a raise 🙂carolind especially!! definitely an amazing person who deserves recognition:)

Google
First-time visitor to the original location. Very charming! The bbq at this location is better than other's I've visited for some reason. Or it could have just been the atmosphere that made everything better! Friendly staff, great beer, and wine selection. Love that it's also byob. It's a great spot to hang out. I'll definitely make the drive again on a weekend!

Google
This was a great experience for us Since I don't normally like bbq sauce and this is the only bbq sauce I eat not too sweet and a hint of spice it’s perfect! I had to come to where everything was founded and I loved it Food was delicious endless sauce for me !! Once we finished lunch went over the vineyard cellar and had myself a salt lick sweet red glass of wine. It was the perfect ending for this visit I am definitely coming back 🥰

Google
One of our favourite BBQ places ever!! Love the people, food, atmosphere and the service. Been here many times - one of our must eats every time we come in this area. Peach and Blackberry cobblers are MUST HAVE’s and just about everything here is good. Potato Salad is also a recommendation but you can’t leave without trying the cobbler. Carolind was our server and we absolutely loved her - she was very sweet and absolutely no notes. Love love love!!

Google
Went there with Husband for a lunch on a Saturday. Loved the ambience and service. Our server was very helpful and interacted with us with a lovely smile on her face. We tried brisket, beef ribs and half-&-half cobbler. Everything was so amazing 🥹 We have decided to go to this place every time we visit Austin.

Google
I originally went for the barbecue but the wine cellar caught my eye, unfortunately had a disappointing experience. From the first glance, the staff seemed poorly trained. When we specifically inquired about wines from the local area, we were instead recommended options from much further away. In the end, we chose the rosé, which turned out to be a poor decision as it was extremely watery. Additionally, we noticed crystals settling at the bottom of our glasses, which I know can happen but was still quite unappetizing . Overall, the price-to-quality ratio was not good. I would recommend sticking to food rather than the wines here.

Yelp
This is a five star review for Salt Lick Cellars Such a cute and charming tasting room with amazing, friendly service and reasonably priced wines! We popped over from Salt Lick BBQ next door to grab a bottle, and it was so convenient--just a few steps away. They even have a red called BBQ Red, which felt like the perfect pairing. Our bottle of red was both delicious and affordable. The outdoor patio is dog-friendly and absolutely adorable, making it a great spot to relax with a glass. Highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area--great wine, great vibes, and great service!

Yelp
Bbq was okay, nothing to write home about. Same with the overpriced wine next door. But service was great, the place was massive and looked like it could be a lovely spot on the weekend. Also great family deals!

Yelp
Last Saturday my friends and I were at the restaurant for dinner. We were all in town celebrating a friend's 50th Birthday. The atmosphere was wonderful with the lighted oak trees, the quaintest tasting room, and exceptional BBQ! Our server was Ashley T and I just can't say enough about how great she was! Highly recommend Salt Lick Cellars and ask for Ashely T!

Yelp
First time to Salt Lick and there was a 45 minutes wait where the hostess suggested the cellars while waiting. This place is massive. It was a few minutes walk to the cellars from the check-in station and the place was quite packed. They got canned beers and several types of wines. It's a cozy small place and they got a huge outdoor picnic area where you listen to live music (there was a guy singing country songs on the day of our visit) and enjoy the sun.

Yelp
Came to Kyle to visit my brother and on the way back towards Phoenix we stopped in for a late lunch. The property is massive and the outdoor tables under the trees is just a beautiful spot to enjoy the meal. So cool to walk in and see the pit and the BBQ masters at work. We sat outside and ordered and the food came out within a few minutes! I ordered the veggie plate and my cousin got the pulled pork and brisket plate. She said the meat was super tender (didn't even need the knife to cut it) and the BBQ sauce (regular) was really good, she just wished the meat was a little hotter when it came out. I don't usually like coleslaw or potato salad especially when it's swimming in mayo, so I was beyond excited to see it was not mayo based and didn't look anything like what I expected. The coleslaw was good, the potato salad had a little kick to it so I couldn't finish it, but it was all still good. The beans were also not what I typically expect, they were a pleasant surprise, and I appreciate that they were vegetarian so I could actually eat something. We of course saved room for dessert and ordered the half and half cobbler. I'm a huge peach cobbler fan, and this one did not disappoint, but I really liked the blackberry! Both were excellent and I highly recommend you save room for dessert too. We also placed an order for 2 ribs to go. Curious to see what she thinks especially since it is only 2 bones for the price. The dishes all seemed pricey, but we also aren't from the area so perhaps it's within average here. Kenzie was super helpful and friendly and we thoroughly enjoyed the pit stop for our meal.

Yelp
Hands down amazing. BYOB concept is nice. The restaurant does not serve alcohol. We did stop into the cellar on premises to grab a beer and wine. Live music in the courtyard. Server was very attentive. The brisket was tender and just melted as you ate it. The sides were great. The Half/Half cobbler No ice cream was the best I've ever tasted. Will return!

Yelp
We were traveling back home after a July 4th trip with our pup. It had just rained so we looked for a place that had outdoor seating. The first time I was there I remembered picnic tables so we took a chance. There was already a line when we arrived at 11:30 am. All of the outdoor tables were wet and no one was eating outside. People were just standing around the picnic tables waiting to be called inside. I asked the hostess if we could sit outside since we had the pup. She said due to the rain they didn't have any servers working the outdoor tabled so she recommended that we order to go and were welcome to use the picnic tables. We had our waterproof picnic blanket with us so that was perfect. Also, the picnic area was BYOB so my husband had a beer from our cooler before we got our meal. We had the ribs and burnt ends plate with sweet tea. The plate came with potato salad, coleslaw and baked beans. The coleslaw hang a tangy taste as did the bbq sauce. We both really enjoyed our meal and will be back next time we're in the area.

Yelp
Not sure about this location, but the one at the Austin airport has an angry bartender and an outdated drink menu. Don't really expect much from airport watering holes, but a little kindness and courtesy would definitely dress up the dive bar feel of this place...

Chester H.

Yelp
Visited here last week at the location in Austin Texas Airport on a layover returning home to Los Angeles area and was curious about Southern BBQ and it was a mistake. Food way overrated and overpriced not good at all. Portions were small for the price. Staff not really friendly. One small dried slice of bread . Presentation wasnt good, also.Sides were bland and not tasty. They combine the potato salad and Cole slaw together. Not a good idea. Can't distinguish the taste of the items combine together? 2 slices of turkey and some brisket that was dry! BBQ beans dry ! Everything was just ordinary. I felt robbed and definitely will not be returning here againinthefuture. . Definitely wouldn't recommend this eatery.

Yelp
Ya take the good with the bad. We came south of Austin to the wine valleys here and started with Salt Lick Cellars. They had the adjoining BBQ place and we were hungry so figured to start here then hit some of the other vineyards. The place was designed to take in a lot of people. it was full of folks at 1PM on Friday. There was maybe 150 cars in a lot that could hold 10 times that. The grounds were nice, with lots of shady trees and people having a good time. I think it was more of a good time from the BBQ and beer maybe as the wine was nothing to cheer about. we walked and asked for a tasting from the little window that was the winery. We got an eye roll and were told no. So we each got a glass of wine, not wanting to waste the stop. Both glasses were not good. Not to sound like a boozer but I can finish most any glass, but we had to pour both out sadly. it threw off our mojo enough that we didn't even get a different glass or BBQ. The good news was there were plenty more options down the road!

Yelp
It's great to have this place right next to Salt Lick BBQ as the BBQ spot is BYOB. The prices are reasonable and the wine is actually surprisingly good. We usually do the BBQ red and it's perfect for what we are going for. Grab a bottle of wine and go relax in front of the live music that they have to offer. Great atmosphere. Have brought many people to this spot and they all love it
google avatar

Amy S.

Yelp
Nice ambiance and outdoor space, conveniently located next to Salt Lick BBQ. Friendly bartender. Only tried a dry red wine and it was not very good at all. Heads up they do not offer tastings on weekends.
google avatar

Josh G.

Yelp
I guess this company only accepts horizontal ID? So if your first ID has not expired then don't bother trying this place without a passport. This is the only place that I've ever been to in any state that ignores age and only cares whether your ID is vertical or horizontal...

Yelp
After eating delicious bbq next door my wife and I decided to do a little wine tasting. A charming western style building houses the wine tasting room. There are little items for sale like candles and honey. I tasted a few where one was too tangy for me but did pick up a bottle of Salt Lick Cellars BBQ White. Outside will find tables under huge oak trees and games to play like bocce ball. This place is designated as over 21. Besides wine they sell buckets of beer bottles to enjoy.
google avatar

Sarah L.

Yelp
Always had salt lick in Austin, but never at their OG spot. We had a great time. Def busy on the weekends, so expect a long wait. Trick is to order from their to go line outside. About a 30-45 min wait on a Friday night. You then can sit almost any table outside, versus the 2-3 hour wait to eat inside. Plus they have live music outside so win win! We got the pork ribs and brisket sandwich, both as good as always.
google avatar

Yelp
My fiance and I come here on a Thursday and the place was empty (just how we wanted it). The bartender in the tasting room was very friendly and helpful. We chose a bottle of wine that was a very reasonable price and finished most of it before we at next door. The grounds are pretty and there is plenty of seating!
google avatar

Mike F.

Yelp
Wow what a disappointment! Brisket is hard and has its form it's so stiff! Beans are like a can of ranch style, I thought with all the reviews this place was great.
google avatar

Kyle R.

Yelp
I've been to salt lick two times. I've been to Austin four times. The only reason I didn't go all four times is time constraint/ lack there of vehicle. It's a nice drive out of Austin, getting a little taste of Texas hill country. Ideally I'd go to a swimming hole near by, then stop at salt lick for a great meal to finish the day. Everything is delicious and it's an awesome atmosphere. Plenty of outdoor seating which makes it an even better experience.

Yelp
Dillon (Dylan) was fantastic. He steered us well during our tasting and we went away with 3 bottles of excellent vino and a mixed 6-pack of beer. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves (even had a good laugh at the tipsy women imbibing). Wish we could have ordered wine at the restaurant though. I knew we wouldn't be able to finish a full bottle and still drive back to Austin so the wine stayed stoppered. My husband was able to enjoy a couple of his beers, so a win for him.

Bryan W.

Yelp
Worth the drive! Brisket is great, Ribs are even better. They have a house out back that sells beer and wine.

Yelp
Taking my dad to Saltlick BBQ for his birthday has become tradition. We enjoy the ambiance and of course the food and wine. Today our wait time was estimated at 1 hour and 15 mins, so we decided to pass time at the wine cellar next door. We were greeted by an older lady Jane, I asked if I could sample a cabernet and she responded that they only do sampling Monday-Thursday. I didn't question it, I just bought 4 bottles of what I have bought many times before, 1 of which i had opened by her to drink on premises.. My brother, who was with me at the time bought 6 beers and got a bucket with ice to place them in. After we were finished, my brother and I returned inside the wine cellar to return the bucket. As we waited Jane was tending to other customers and OFFERED THEM A SAMPLE!!!!! I was completely taken back, I was in there just an hour ago and Jane told me that there was no sampling on the weekend. My brother and I left to the restaurant because it was time to be seated. After our delicious dinner we decided to go back to the cellar to buy more wine. We didn't get an opportunity to talk to Jane because she wasn't there but fortunately Mariana was. I asked if I could please sample the cabernet and she poured me and my sister in law a sample. I loved it so much that I bought a bottle and so did my sister in law. Mariana was very pleasant and helpful. At this point I am not sure if Saltlick cellars does sampling on the weekends or not because I was told by Jane that they don't but then see her offering a sample to customers after us. I normally don't complain but this left me feeling like Jane was judging a book by its cover and its not a great feeling.

Yelp
This place clearly has a cult following. Not worth the wait or money. The BBQ sauce is pretty amazing. Sunday 12pm was a 90 minute wait for two people. We opted for a to go order. Took about 30 minutes. We ordered the brisket and ribs meal for $27. You would have thought the meat was top notch expensive stuff with how little they gave us. And to think, for $3 more (and 60 minutes more of a wait) we could have gotten all you can eat. Thank God for the delicious BBQ sauce I poured all over the meat as well as the sides. If it wasn't for the sauce I would have thought I had Corona virus because this stuff had no taste. I see reviews saying they only accept cash. We paid with a credit card. There was a minimum payment for alcohol though. I think it was $18.

Yelp
The Salt Lick Cellars was a nice little bonus to our trip to The Salt Lick bbq. With a little bit of a wait ahead of us, we decided to walk over to the cellar for some beers. You walk down the sidewalk along side of the actual Salt Lick restaurant and drool as you see the other patrons inside eating their bbq. As you enter the cellar you are faced with various wines wall to wall hut on the far left, their selection of beers. We looked over their beer selection and picked up 3 buckets of various beers including lone star and shinerbock. After grabbing our buckets, we enjoyed some on their benches outside. From there you can enjoy looking at their vineyard or play some bocce ball. Or you can walk back with your drinks back to the wait area to be seating. Perfect side stop if you're looking for an adult beverage while you wait if you forgot to BYOB

Yelp
Awesome selection of wine and beers, enjoy here or next door at salt lick bbq. Outdoor garden area and bar are amazing. So many flowers and greenery. Say hello to Maggie cutest dog. Get the 6 pack of beer ($16)u can always take it home. Wayyyyy cheaper than $4 ea.

Yelp
My review is tainted, I admit, but it is still valid. What do I mean tainted? Well, it was a girls weekend, we were soaked to the bone and freezing, unhappy/snippy tenders, and we were jammed in a tiny wine tasting room stuffed with other people trying to avoid the rain. The fellow customers were likely just as unhappy as we were, but there was wine! One note though - everyone else was just standing there, we were the only ones that were paying customers and we STILL got attitude. Our least favorite tasting we did all weekend, but wines were good (not great). Need to try again one day when there is great weather!
google avatar

Liz F.

Yelp
We went around 2 on a Saturday and as you could imagine, it was pretty busy, but we still got good service. I mean what else do you do after a 6 mile walk through the parks but stop for wine! We got good service inside, both the woman that helped us and the younger guy behind the bar were very friendly and helpful . We both did a wine tasting (I did the whites) and hubs did the reds. 5 tastings for 12$ which I thought was pretty reasonable. The Chardonnay they had was pretty good along with another I can't pronounce . Hubs enjoyed a couple of the reds as well. Both left with a cup of white sangria while waiting for our food next door. It was a perfect day to enjoy it on the patio as well. Would we take an Uber out from Austin just to go here, meh probably not. However, if you're in the area it's a great spot with friendly service. When we're back in the area with friends we'd go back.

Yelp
This place has the best I mean theeeee best bison ribs and potato salad. Open seating for outdoor orders. There are 2 main buildings but the wait for a table was over an hour. Sat outside, food came out super quick. Even got to go in the back and check out where they smoke all the bbq. Authentic as it comes. Texas bbq. This places is BYOB there were even college kids with handles of liquor on their tables as if it was almost a daily event or something to do on the weekend. Atmosphere is cool and kid friendly but you can also have a great time in the winery. Definitely a must if you visit austin, it will not disappoint my meal was about $33 and this place is cash only. The ATM wasn't working so this was somewhat of an issue but we got it handled. Awesome bbq

Yelp
Best place I happened upon ever! We were leaving the Dutchman winery & looked over & saw a mass of people. My bf turned around & we decided to check it out. Such a great surprise: BBQ & wine! What's not to like? Beautiful grounds, lots of outdoor & some indoor seating. People from all walks of life enjoying the weather & listening to some good live music. BBQ was really good & came with all the fixings. Winery ladies were very approachable & helpful. So glad we stopped in. It made the day.
google avatar

Allison B.

Yelp
Very good and decent sized combo plate for $20 or so.....the place is enormous and popular so when you see the lines at first you think you'll be waiting forever, but we only waited for 30 to 40 minutes and when we sat down service was very fast. It's BYOB or you can get wine or beer (I recommend lone star) in the cellar that's right next to the BBQ.
google avatar

Tiffany S.

Yelp
The deck & view are worth interacting with the lady who worked here. I came in & said I wanted to get a glass of wine to take back over to the restaurant. She said "Ok" and gave me a menu. I was a little surprised she didn't try to talk me through any wine options or tell me about the Winery off the bat. Just an OK and then she turned away to talk to another guy who worked there about "this lady they apparently both know who's daughter is so big now"... Honestly I learned alot about that lady and nothing about their wines. Went with the chilled rosé. After she'd already poured it she goes 'Oh! This is a dry bubbly, is that ok?' - It was, because I love dry champagne, so lucky us. I would have done a tasting if asked, I read on a sign they are $12. I probably would have bought a bottle if I had been able to pay for a tasting. In short, the rosé was in fact dry but really tasty. Service just dry.
google avatar

Becky K.

Yelp
The Salt Lick BBQ restaurant does NOT sell alcohol but the Salt Lick Cellars, a 20 foot walk away through the courtyard, does. Five stars off the top for the Cellars being a kid free Zone. The rustic tasting room offers wine by the glass or bottle. Unlike the restaurant they do take credit cards. They allow you to bring your wine or beer back to the restaurant to have with your meal. The staff were super friendly. I had a bottle of Rose which was very nice.
google avatar

Amy S.

Yelp
Go for the wine. Not the customer service. I came in on a slow Monday evening and I felt like I was a bothersome. Good thing I've been there before and knew what I wanted because neither he make or female working asked if they could help me or if I wanted to try something. Although she said hello.,, So why am I giving them a 4?! The wine. The Ranch Road Red is one of my favorite blends. Hopefully I can find a similar wine some place but until then...
google avatar

David S.

Yelp
We did the wine tasting, wife loved all of the White Wines that were available and I tried several of the Reds that were also very good. Very cool little tasting room off to the side of The Salt Lick BBQ. We went on a week day so it wasn't crowded at all. Wife grabbed a glass of her favorite from there, and took it to go for lunch at Salt Lick. If you're in the area for either BBQ or doing wine tastings at the local wineries, definitely check this place out. I'd definitely recommend it for family and friends if visiting the Austin area. Wine tastings cost $10 and you get to sample 5 different wines off of the menu.
google avatar

Assad S.

Yelp
The service was amazing! I went in and wanted to try some different varieties and the Manager made sure I could taste each one without an extra charge! The Salt Lick Cellars offered some excellent wines from their boutique shop. While in Austin this is definitely a place to stop in at!
google avatar

Yelp
Love love love everything about this place. BYOB, great service, great BBQ, great desert, merchandise and just overall everything is GREAT! Their beans, cole slaw, ribs, brisket, sausage everything is spot on. And that peach cobbler with ice cream uhhhhhh yesssssss!!!
google avatar

Will A.

Yelp
Very good wine and tasting experience while waiting on a table to get BBQ. You can take a bottle of wine or beer from the cellars into the restaurant which is awesome!
google avatar

Chuck B.

Yelp
This was a different experience than many of the other wineries we had visited on this trip. To start - their tasting room is right next to the BBQ restaurant of the same name. Since the restaurant is BYOB, the tasting room also serves as a beer store. We were unaware of this when we timed our visit to coincide with lunch. Our server was splitting her time between the cash register for beer and providing us our next taste. Somewhat inconvenient (and crowded) but we got through it ok. NOTE: I recommend timing your tasting before/after meal time. We were still able to find a few wines we liked, one appropriately named BBQ Red that we had with lunch. Other than timing, this was a good visit and is near several other wineries in the area.

Yelp
Honestly so disappointed by the service and quality. We waited for a long time to get our six pack, then when we started drinking it, we noticed that the beer had a best by date of December 18th which was a week and a half ago. When I brought this to the bartender's attention, she said that she could only give us new beers if they hadn't been opened. She also said that the best by date didn't mean anything and brushed off my concerns. This is a quality issue. No restaurant or store should be charging full price or even selling goods past their best by date. I find this extremely upsetting as I've spent money on beer that should have been sold a week and a half ago. Also, we opened the beers but stopped drinking immediately after noticing the date on all the bottles. I don't think a cellar should be able to sell beer or wine past the best by date, and I'm sure no one wants to buy it either. Word of advice, check the date on the bottles before opening. Or better yet, don't bother waiting in the lines and spend your money elsewhere.
google avatar

Kevin W.

Yelp
If you have a long wait and run out of beer, the cellars is a great place to get some beer. Located on the same property as Salt Lick. Follow the path and you will see signs for the cellar. Good selection of can and bottle beers. 6 pack - $14 - You can mix 2 different beers. Comes in an ice bucket and you can bring it to the picnic area at the Salt Lick while you wait.

Yelp
In order to earn a five star, I have to be able to make no recommendations for improvement. This place is my all time favorite BBQ house in Texas. The bread is excellent, fresh and homemade. I ate a LOT of the fresh homemade rolls. They serve fresh homemade pickles. Crispy and delicious. Bbq sauce was excellent. It is a little different with a sweet flair, just what I like. Cole slaw was simple, not sweet. I'm not a fan of cole slaw. Ever. Theirs was different, nearly enjoyable. That speaks volumes. Potatoe salad is more like a potato side dish, not heavily dressed or loaded with mayo. I liked that. The Ribs are excellent, simply delicious. Major yum factor involved. Recommended. The Lean Brisquit was excellent. You are given a choice of lean or fatty. Perhaps the finest I've ever had and I'm picky about meats. Seriously recommended. The Turkey was good. Not magical, but good. The Sausage was good. I can take or leave sausage, theirs was good. Be aware: Cash only. They have ATMS on location. They are a BYOB setup, which I liked. There is a winery next door, didn't visit it. Nice looking. The grounds and surroundings are very scenic, well manicured. I loved their BBQ pit as you come in. I had a Peach blueberry cobbler mix. Peach was good, blueberry excellent. Most certainly homemade. I like the salt lick, best BBQ joint in Texas in my estimation.

Yelp
Holly Mother of ALL GODS!!! Everyone in the WORLD must come here! And if you don't like meat, sucks for you! okay, that was mean! So if you don't eat meat, they have an amazing vineyard! This place is huge and I must say their winery is FANTASTIC! You can do wine tasting while you wait! 5 wines for 10 bucks! And JAY, our server was awesome! He was able to handle almost the entire area while giving amazing customer service, We sampled a lot of wines and he told us the back story as to how Salt Lick came about! In addition while you wait this is a cool place for the kids to run around outside! Don't like wine...that's okay too. Because we noticed a sign that said BYOB! Well enough on drinks, lets move onto the food! FIRST, lets start with their amazing pit. Your eyes will pop out of your head. Its crazy! They have this wood burning fire that flames high as food cooks over it. Ribs, brisket, sausages and more! Wow you can just smell all the love in the sauce! In addition you see all of the hard working staff flipping the meat and chopping it once it comes out! Make sure to get some of their bread! WOW, the softest bread I ever had in my life, don't forget to spread the butter on top! It just melts right on! You can not go wrong with anything you order here. But since it was my first time, I ordered the plate that had ALL the meats! My greedy butt! HAHAHAHA oh well, I ate it all! There was nothing left! In addition to that their desserts are to die for!!! You must get them all and just share with everyone at the table! This place is like GOD'S of all BBQ joints! Please expect a wait. We waited like an hour before we where seated. And it did not matter. There was so much to see and do. So many pictures we took and we even mingled with other families. The wine tasting took up about 45 minutes. Afterwards we did family photos and helped other families take photos. By the time we did all that, it was time to be seated! When you leave you will sleep for about 2 or 3 hours and that's perfectly fine with me!!! :-)

Yelp
Right next to The Salt Lick BBQ. We went over here while eating at salt lick. We were able to taste a few different wines before choosing a bottle. Had some really solid options! All of their grapes are grown at the salt lick. Really enjoyed this aspect of our trip to the salt lick.

Yelp
I'm from Indiana, so maybe my pricing scale is a little skewed. I feel like $12 for 5 tastings is overpriced, but the lovely gentleman helping us threw in a few extras in conversation. It was a great experience, I just don't like the high cost. However, I do appreciate it as an option to help pass the time before you get to feast on delicious BBQ. If you do happen to find one you like, it would be good, too, since it's BYOB. Overall, a nice experience. They have some fun wine-related gifts in the shop, too.

Yelp
Had another spectacular visit to this awesome winery! Our visit was made perfect by Jennifer (the blonde one ;) Who was really attentive, helpful and funny! My friend and I were celebrating her belated birthday and Jennifer helped us pick out some great wines and I took some home too! I can't wait to visit again and pet Mr. Merlot again!

Yelp
The ONLY place to get boozery for your victuals at the Salt Lick BBQ joint next door. It can get busy with rush to find solace in your beverage of preference whilst waiting on an open bench for the feeding trough called Salt Lick BBQ. The Sommelier ( or anyone accused of pouring wine in a glass) may seem abrupt at times due to diligently accommodating both the winos and the Beer enthusiasts. Your tasting of 5 choices of anything on the list for $15 is reasonable and some palettes will be pleased by the selection. We decided to purchase three Bottles and surprisingly did not have the tasting taken off our bill. Most places we've been to offer this as a compliment but don't expect it at SLC. 2 and 1/2 stars for booze and service and the other half star for parking.

Yelp
If you forgot to bring alcohol for your BBQ dinner next door, you may need to stop by. It's a small tasting room but cozy and relaxed. They have a great wine tasting offer- five 1 oz pours for only $5! They offer a fun selection of local Texas wines. They also have cheese plates, if your appetite needs warming up before all that BBQ. Terry was our pourer and she was so friendly and knowledgeable. My friend Bennida is a wine newbie but she still had a great time and learned a bit about different flavors and varietals. I really liked this one Merlot (I think? Maybe called Ed's Red?) and a Muscato by Duchman vineyard. I would have stocked up if my luggage hadn't already been so heavy. If you need to kill some time while waiting for your table (like we did) and/or you just enjoy some laid-back wine tasting, it's a great place. They've only been open for 6 weeks, so check them out!

Yelp
Nice architectural addition to the Salt Lick. It's new, but doesn't look out of place at all at what's become an institution here in Central Texas. And a fun way to do a wine tasting before or after the BBQ. Now is the wine any good? Well, I'll leave that to your palate but I didn't feel the taste was worthy of the hefty prices per bottle. Pretty much all were $30 and up. These wines are small runs so i get that. I guess these are basically restaurant prices where I might buy a bottle and not bat an eye at $30. Selections of nuts, honey, sauces and other goodies are available here. Great for Christmas gifts. I would happily return for a cheese plate and maybe a glass. Picnic tables are scattered around to eat your to go BBQ on and enjoy that glass. Service was friendly!

Yelp
The "Cheers" of the Hill Country!! Jennifer and Chris were great. Chelsea is new but adds a lot of beauty to the place.
