Where to Enjoy a Glass of Chardonnay This Summer in the Tampa Area | Eater

"Nothing embodies the laid-back summer vibe of Florida quite like the Salt Shack, where it feels like a trip to the Keys every time you walk in. Hidden at the end of a marine industrial area in the shadow of the Gandy Bridge, the Salt Shack beckons you with its funky wood structure and breezy outdoor spaces. It’s a favorite for after-work drinks, sunset cocktails, and all-day weekend celebrations, where cool chardonnay and frozen drinks flow freely. The fresh seafood is also a must, whether you get your catch of the day grilled, pan-seared, or fried whole." - Matthew Meltzer

Tampa Bay Bars and Restaurants Serving Astral Tequila | Eater

"The end of Rattlesnake Point isn’t exactly the first place in Tampa Bay you’d expect to find a spot that’s regularly on “best of” lists. That element of the unexpected is part of what makes Salt Shack such a find, where you’ll happen upon this funky, waterside outdoor bar at the end of an industrial area. It’s like you stepped out into the Caribbean as soon as you walk inside, as tropical drinks and smoked mahi dip fill the tables and yacht rock fills the air. It’s an ideal place to catch the sunset, which needs nothing more than a house margarita made with Astral Tequila to set the mood." - Matthew Meltzer

This place is amazing! We absolutely loved the food and drinks, and the atmosphere couldn't be better. I got the painkiller and the shack pina colada. Both were 🤌💥, so I highly recommend them for those that like a fruity and strong cocktail. And for food my friends and I shared the calamari and fried oysters for starters, and shared the Catch of the Day (fire grilled) as our entree. All were great, but especially the fried oysters and fish. Those were the stars for us, and something we would definitely get again! Our waitress was so sweet and fun to talk to, as well as very attuned to our needs. I hate that I forgot her name, but she is a beautiful young woman, originally from the New England area and has yet to try some good southern food! Haha Overall, this place is great, and I'd definitely recommend coming for dinner around sunset to enjoy the wonderful view!

I’ve been to Salt Shack a few times now and I’ve never had a bad experience. The food has always been good, and I’ve tried multiple dishes. Everything has been consistent each time I’ve gone. Sometimes there can be a bit of a wait depending on when you visit, but I’ve also gone and been seated right away. Either way, the view makes it worth it. You truly can’t beat being right on the water. The atmosphere is lively and busy. It can get a little loud, but not to the point where you can’t have a conversation. Each time I’ve been, there has been live music, which really adds to the ambiance and makes the experience even better. We have a lot of visitors come in from our home state, and this is one of the places we always take our guests. It’s a great spot to show off the area. Overall, great food, great vibes, and an unbeatable waterfront view. Definitely a solid spot to check out.

Google
Can’t say enough good things about this establishment. The atmosphere was excellent, I love the fact that it is right on the water in an excellent location. Plus the nautical theme really shines through here. Salt Shack On The Bay is a great example of what a seafood restaurant should be in terms of the atmosphere. The dishes were equally as impressive with a wonderful menu. I tried the lobster bisque which was one of the best lobster bisque’s I have ever tried. Next was the Gaspar’s Tuna Tartare which I absolutely loved. Perfectly done the dish really came together and was complemented by very tasty and crispy house made chips. I also ordered the clams and the fish basket. Both were amazing! The service here is also world class. My waiter was excellent and really showed a passion for his work, also very knowledgeable about the menu and the customer experience! I really enjoyed my dining experience at Shalt Shack On The Bay. So glad I came across this restaurant!!

Google
Salt Shack was absolutely a beautiful experience with my husband and our babies ❤️ it was a big day for my husband so we googled a resturant on the water and chose salt shack randomly. We were excited we did when we arrived. The whole setting was gorgeous and we were RIGHT IN THE WATER. The service was excellent!!! The food was on point ! The whole dinner there was just perfect ! ❤️ it would be the perfect place to have a gathering or celebration, we would like to go back for a group setting gathering one day😊

Google
We absolutely loved the Salt Shack. The vibe was relaxed and tropical. The service was great. Brandon, our server, was very attentive. But the star of the day was the food. The coconut shrimp was so fresh, and fried to perfection. The grouper sandwich was perfectly cooked and clearly fresh! And topped off with excellent Pina Coladas! I would also like to praise the accessibility. There were handicapped spaces, and plenty of room to drop someone off. There is a ramp up to the restaurant, and appropriate seating. Everyone was accommodating. A great experience!!!.

Google
Great food and good service. I recommend their crab sandwich, chicken sandwich , regular fries (they’re seasoned) and pina colada. Cool place to eat by the water for sure

Miles L.

Google
Started with the middleneck class and calamari. Both were outstanding, particularly the spicy dipping sauce for the calamari. The blacked grouper sandwich was delicious and a very unique and tasty tarter sauce. The crab cake sandwich was very tasty. Finished off with the rum cake that was better than expected. Not to "rummy". Our server, Devin, was very friendly and knowledgeable. Will be back for sure.

Google
The atmosphere is fantastic here. This was our second visit & we loved it. The staff is super friendly. The food was delicious. Everyone in my party loved what they got. The seafood is fresh & delicious. I highly recommend the Sally Shack Pina Colada with toasted coconut on top. Best I’ve ever had. The views on the water are fantastic. Especially if you’re lucky enough to be there for sunset!

Yelp
We came out on a whim hoping for a water view and a nice meal. We had a decent mea but a water view was not available. That's ok, it was really busy. They do have fresh fish, but not all of the fish we had was super fresh. Service was fast, Had the blackened grouper tacos -- the grouper was decent but not the freshest I've had here in Tampa. Well executed exactly as ordered. My dining partner had their fresh catch of the day a s that was exceedingly fresh and quite well prepared, blackened. The yuca fries weee excellent, and the lobster bisque is very good if not a bit too heavy for me. The Cesar Salad was fresh! Dessert sounded good but was little more than chocolate pudding on a crust with toasted coconut. Nothing too exciting. There's a lot to like here, and the water view is great. Definitely worth a visit.

Yelp
Prime location right on the water, definitely some scenic views and I appreciate the open air setup. We got ceviche and the mahi dip. Ceviche was served in a small (like 4oz) bowl and was probably the most mid iteration of ceviche I've ever had. Just chopped cocktail shrimp with maybe a squeeze of lemon juice. The chips served with it were good. The mahi dip was decent, served with saltines which was.. a choice. Service was decent. They were obviously busy but attentive.

Yelp
Great waterfront location that's a bit tucked away, but there's plenty of parking once you find it. As soon as you walk in, you're hit with relaxed beach island vibes. The ambiance really stands out with fire pits, sand areas, tiki bars, and island music playing throughout the space. This was one of the first restaurants we visited after moving here from California, and it immediately felt like our kind of spot. The food and drinks were solid, nothing overly fancy, but enjoyable and exactly what you'd expect from a laid-back waterfront shack. Overall, it's a great place to unwind by the water. I'd definitely recommend it for a casual date night, meeting up with friends, or bringing family for an easygoing evening. A++ = Ambience and Location for pictures and vibes B = Food + Drinks A++ = Location + Parking

Yelp
This place was sooo busy on a Saturday late afternoon but they handled the rush well. Good food, beautiful outdoor seating and good time spent with friends!
google avatar

Yelp
Came here to have seafood, sunshine, and a sunset and we got all three to our delight! Got there early enough to sit outside on the water - so pretty! We figured that we should focus on seafood they can do well. Fried oysters were very good and a generous portion. Clams were good and the salad. My painkiller was tasty too! Altogether exactly what we were looking for on our last night in Tampa!
google avatar

Yelp
Really great service, Pina coladas and old fashioned were excellent, and fish tacos, oysters and tuna stack was perfection. Thoroughly enjoyed our time.

Yelp
Honestly very surprised at the level of flavors and service here. I expect the typical fried seafood options you get along the water in most south Florida towns but despite an extensive menu everything was very tasty and quick and fast service. The conch soup was a delightful surprise along with the standard fare. Great large space with a great view and a great option for a large group having trouble finding a reservation.

Yelp
Finally decided to try this place... it's always SUPER crowded so I told myself I HAVE to try this place at least once. Honestly... the food is OK - they're pretty pricey (it's seafood I get it) but for what you get, I was a bit disappointed. 8 small shrimp with a handful of fries for $22 is crazy (see pic). I will ALWAYS pay for great food no matter what the cost but the food here is far from great. It's decent but not for the price.... Maybe my expectations were too high based on the volume of people and overly long wait this place usually has. I came to the conclusion people flock to this place for the drinks and vibe. It's nestled right on the water, has tables scattered throughout as well and various seating areas so I see why this would be an appealing place for a date or night out with the fellas or girlies. Would I wait over an hour for the actual food? Absolutely not, we're in Tampa - there's PLENTY of places with way better food. But if you're looking for vibes on the water, you just might find it worth the wait.

Yelp
We loved it! We had a fun time with the nautical theme complete with a "shipwreck"! Indoor rustic area for dining and the bar. There's an awesome outdoor seating area with heaters for the cold nights too! We loved it! We had drinks and coconut shrimp! There was soft music playing overhead which was It was amazing! We will def will be back! Ty for the wonderful service and yummy food. Our server was the best, I just forgot to get her name! Will get it next time and update!
google avatar

Yelp
The food, service, and atmosphere were all beyond good! The shack pina colada is the best I've had. Their tartar is incredible. They had an amazing live artist who was covering every classic song I could imagine playing steel pans and a guitar while singing, it was really impressive. And to top it off the sunset there was iconic!

Yelp
Found this spot on Yelp. We wanted some seafood by the Bay. The food was great and the seafood was just battered right. Our waitress was also awesome. Loved sitting outside overlooking the bay. Overall was great and if I am ever in Tampa again will definitely return.
google avatar

Yelp
Great drinks, views and ambiance. Plenty of seating in the courtyard and seawall area. Service was quick too!

Yelp
Stopped by for a couple of drinks this weekend. Bar was empty because of the rainy weather. But drinks were great and prices are very fair. Didn't try any food this time but we've tried their wings and fried calamari before and they're both delicious! Definitely a good spot by the water to hang out with friends and family or taking a date there for a nice waterfront dinner.

Yelp
I forgot to take a photo of the burger and wings this time. I did snap a shot of the mojito, and you know what beer looks like. Same company: Mike B. Poker friend and now a good friend. Always fun hanging out with a few beers (and a mojito). On this trip, great service from Emily, Ava, and Mortimer (don't remember dude's name behind bar so took an educated guess). Btw, my pen name is Tyler and everyone calls me that. This is the only social media with my legal name. Anyway, the burger was solid, the fries were good, the wings were better than expected, the mojito wasn't as strong as last time but enjoyable, and the beer was filled to the brim every time. I always get to this place and plan to stay quiet. But the atmosphere and the outdoor bar lead to me having a mojito and beer after beer. Then I don't shut up, but I'm having a good time. On that note, and in real time, I'm currently sitting at BestBet St. Augustine waiting for a poker tournament and drinking a Red Bull and this woman won't shut tf up talking across the bar! And an annoying-pitched voice. Hmmm.... But she's talking about s**t nobody cares about: her nephew went to the draft, she went to Wisconsin, she used a hair curler last Tuesday. When drinking, I at least a talk about Philanthropic Phlebotomists and the meaning of life for a squirrel. Back to Salt Shack. Overall, recommended. Side Note: There is construction here rn in parking lot, but it shouldn't impact your experience.

Yelp
This is worth the crazy directions in the dark!! The Lobster Bisque is mild with lobster pieces!! It is delicious. The menu with fresh fish is vast with fresh grouper or whatever suites you. The service was incredible. Bronson was an incredible server. Hopefully, they will have carribean coconut chocolate pie when you find this wonderful place.
google avatar

Yelp
This place was JAM PACKED and I know why!! The turn over is fast and the food is BURSTING with delicious flavors. And can we talk about the location? Right on the bay overlooking the bridge to St. Petersburg. It's just glorious!! Anywho, we both had vodka lemonades bc well.... it's refreshing and started off w peel and eat shrimp and gator bites. WHAT???? OKAY!!!!! As for the entrees I had the crab cake sandwich w Yuka fries and he had the pulled pork sand which with Yuka fries as well. Let's just say I inhaled it and gained 6.5 lbs while I was there but we weren't done just yet. Did someone say homemade key lime pie???? She sure did and I said "did we just become best friends" YEP! we finished off that bad boy and rolled out of there with the biggest smiles on our faces. I even got a high five for that one!! Toot toot salt shack. Toot toot!

Yelp
The Salt Shack on the Bay is in an excellent location--right on the water--with a relaxed, coastal vibe. The venue is split into two areas: a sit-down restaurant and a more casual tiki bar side. We grabbed a high-top table for four and started with the tuna tartare appetizer, which was fresh and flavorful, served with guacamole and chips. For our main course, we ordered a cheeseburger with fries, a fried day boat grouper sandwich with fries, and a blackened day boat grouper sandwich, also with fries. All of the sandwiches were served hot on brioche buns and tasted fresh and delicious. Lastly, we ordered the key lime pie and the sweetness and the tart matched perfectly in our mouth! Overall, a wonderful great meal! The service was fantastic--our waitress was attentive, friendly, and great to chat with. The area where we were seated had TVs in every direction, so we were able to catch up on sports while enjoying views of the Gandy Bridge. Drunkin Noodle: Margaritas!!!...these were made to order, no prefrozen machine in site, just benders, so goo sign..and when asked light or dark rum on to layer the top...Yes please, five starts

Christina G.

Yelp
Fantastic atmosphere, mediocre food. This review is for future Christina. I ordered the avocado and shrimp salad and was not a fan at all. The iceberg lettuce and not a lot of toppings made it a sad salad. Next time I should get something else. I got the dirty banana for a drink and that was delicious. I absolutely would get that again. The kids split a chicken tenders kids meal (they do have a kids menu even though it's not online, the waitress just tells you, there's no written kids menu). The chicken tenders were very good. My other son loved my husband's chimichuri steak. I thought it was overcooked, but I'd get it again since my son loved it so much. I did like the yucca fries and the plantains it came with though. This place is right on the water. I didn't see any indoor seating but all the seating is covered. Next time I rather not sit at the picnic tables right on the water because there's no fans there. There's ample seating though in the covered areas with fans so I'll opt to sit there.

Yelp
This restaurant has an amazing location. We were able to sit at a waterfront table overlooking Tampa Bay. The day was perfect not a cloud in the sky. JAX was our waiter and he was super friendly and super attentive. We started with the tuna tartare and then added the smoked mahi dip. We also had the crabcakes which were wonderful. Even the onion rings underneath the word amazing. And the plantains were cooked perfectly. We ended with Keylime pie, which was also wonderful. This is a must visit, especially if you're new in town.

Yelp
Beautiful views of the bay! Delicious food! & pretty good service. This place is always packed. I was being risky bringing my parents here one Thursday afternoon while they were visiting . Even though it was still packed, we didn't have a wait. My dad loves seafood & I heard that this restaurant doesn't sell the fake stuff. The fried oysters was delicious & they didn't skimp on the size. My mom bit into a fried oyster and found a Pearl . My drink was delicious! I enjoyed my conch chowder & house salad.
google avatar

Yelp
Very beautiful outdoor dining spot with a huge bar. Came here on. Friday night and it was super packed! Be prepared to have a bit of a wait. Theres a huge bar to get a drink while waiting and plenty of seating. They have a great menu. I got the Dirty Banana - frozen banana with rum. For dinner I got the catch of the day with rice and plantains. Super delicious white fish, sweet plantains, and well seasoned rice. For appetizer, got the fresh shrimp ceviche, a staple here. Wish I lived in the area to keep on coming back.
google avatar

Yelp
Really cool place with a great view of the Bay Area. Mostly outside but covered and lots of bar space. If you are looking for a nice place for some drinks and relax this is a good place for it. Service here is always great just be mindful is a larger place and tends to get busy and stays busy so be patient with the service. But they do move and come around often. As for the food! They have a wide range of standard food with their own twist on them. Everything I've had here has been rather good both is taste and quality. This time around I got the chicken tacos with the jerk sauce. Adds a little heat to it. Great flavor and extra hot sauce at the table if you want an extra bit to it. Also had a side of plantains, they were ok I tend to like mine a little more sweeter. These aren't bad but I do think they are an acquired taste for most people. Lastly we had the alligator bites to share with the table. If you ever had it before you know it tastes like chicken but they do have a really good honey mustard sauce. But over all great taste and perfect crunch.
google avatar

Emily M.

Yelp
From the welcoming sunset to the beauty of this place ! It's a must check them out. I got the chimichurri steak with a side of shrimp and Yuca French fries : The steak was tender, not too overcooked, and the sauce was perfect. The Yuca fries had a good sauce over them that paired well with steak. I would give it a 10/10 definitely would be back. Drinks: I got the strawberry Mojito single ( 8/10) Atmosphere, I would say for it to be a Wednesday night was about right not too loud not too noisy. The weather was great so outside was perfect. The staff is amazing. The place in general is definitely a spot. You have to check out if you haven't before. They have a lot of parking space there is construction on the back side.
google avatar

Ann N.

Yelp
Save yourself the drive and the wait. Other than the view of the ocean there's nothing redeemable about Salt Shack. It's a long wait for mediocre food and a mediocre view. My partner ordered tacos and decided to get 3. 2 tacos would not have filled him. But tell me why an extra taco is $9??? A single. Taco. I got the crab cakes and they were just okay. Dry. Big pass - not worth the drive and 1hr wait.
google avatar

Ivana S.

Yelp
Drinks here are priced so well for the location by the water. Very impressed! Plenty of parking although it may be pay? We got just the fish dip and ceviche. Ceviche was great and the chips tasted very fresh almost like a pita taste to them. The dip was ok I wouldn't order it again felt like it started to melt onto the plate as it came to our table. Margs = the best almost nervous to move nearby because we will be coming often for them! There's covered areas and outdoor right by the bay seating. Everything is outdoors and scenic!
google avatar

Roberta H.

Yelp
We did arrive early so we would not have a long wait. It was approximately 5 on a Friday and we were seated right away. Great seats too! My son, who is in the Army will be out soon and is moving back home here to Tampa. This is his favorite place. The ambiance was great (as usual) and our server was fantastic! My husband and I had the lobster bisque which was absolutely delicious!!! We all had two other appetizers and our main entrees. Sorry, no pictures of the food. The new seafood pasta I had was full of flavor and lots of seafood. Honestly they ruined me on getting lobster bisque from anywhere else now!!!!
google avatar

Alexandra A.

Yelp
Views at sunset were incredible and the food was decent. I was surprised at how flavorful it was. The chimichurri steak was very moist and the yucca is some of the best I've had. The fish tacos also had a good kick. Service was a bit slow but it was packed.
google avatar

Kristin C.

Yelp
Finally made it over to Salt Shack to check it out. They had someone set up by the entrance taking names and phone numbers, but after waiting awhile to get a text that our table was ready, I realized that she put my phone number in wrong. When I went to ask at the host stand, they weren't very friendly and acted annoyed about having to look for my name on the list. They re-added me to the list, luckily to the top of the list, and didn't have to wait long. The drinks and food were great. Love the ambiance and it's pretty at sunset.
google avatar

Kristy A.

Yelp
Beautiful restaurant with excellent food and service! Very fresh seafood here! If you're visiting on the weekends be prepared to wait for a seat! Go to the bar and grab a drink while you wait and enjoy the beautiful bay of Tampa FL! Can't wait to visit again. Btw- BEST WATERSIDE DINING FOR GATOR BITES! It's a must try on the their menu. Order a strawberry mojito to pair! Absolutely delicious.

Barbara T.

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch on Sunday , very disappointed that they no longer have the jackfruit tacos! No vegan choices!!! The waiter, Sebation(?) did offer the chicken tacos w/o the chicken and thy added a little extra on the veggies, came with fries, maybe 10 French fries. Good thing we ordered an order of fries which they forgot to bring out with the tacos. It was so cold and windy the tables along the water were hot being used, however they sat us in the bar area right by the water which was freezing. They should've asked if we wanted to wait for an inside table. $90 for 4 meals, no drinks.

Debbie O.

Yelp
OMG! We can only give 5 stars?!?! Anna was such a great waitress, friendly and knowledgeable. Even has great recommendations for a fairly local beach and souvenir shopping. Really good menu. 3 of us and all had different seafood options. And that view! We sat in the upper deck with a bayside view. 100%, make this a stop for lunch.
google avatar

Yelp
I love this place! The spot on Rattlesnake Point is beautiful! The view of the St Pete and the water is awesome! It's outdoor casual and has a great casual vibe! All the servers are friendly. The food is delicious and I always can't wait to come back! The daily fish with the rice and veggies is so fresh and amazing! Try the gator bites! And the mojitos are on point!!

Yelp
In Tampa for a couple days so we decided to check out Salt Shack on the Bay. When we pulled in parking lot large plenty of parking. We were seated at a table that had views of the bay, all seating open air with a nice breeze. Our server was very friendly and he checked on us a lot. We ordered house margaritas, I ordered the shrimp basket which comes with fries, my husband ordered Day boat fish which was a blackened grouper sandwich with fries. Service was very quick and the shrimp was very juicy and very lightly battered, very good! My husband said his sandwich was very good, great flavor.

Yelp
I am loving the St Shack. Food - delicious Service - Great and Fast Ambiance - the view is the vibe along with the one man band singing. Definitely a place to go and chill on the weekend

Yelp
OMG! This was just what the doctor ordered. I felt like seafood so this is the place we went. First off, the view is amazing. It was a bit windy and the sun was starting to set and behind clouds so a little cool but not bad. We had 2 servers as we got there right at shift change and both were fantastic. Super nice young ladies. We started with the calamari rings and we're pleasantly surprised with the fried banana pepper rings. The sauce, I don't know what the name of it is, was really good. It was not a typical marinara sauce but great flavor to it. The entire dish was fantastic; perfect amount of batter. For my meal I chose the half pound peel and eat shrimp steamed and seasoned which tasted like an Old Bay seasoning as well as the fish bites. Again both items absolutely perfect. The fish was lightly breaded, nice little fish nuggets if you will. It normally comes with tartar sauce however I don't use tartar. They did have a hot sauce on the table that was actually really good with it. The peel and eat shrimp were large and cooked perfectly. The seasoning was succulent. Again both items super good and I ended up bringing about half of both home. My husband had the crab cakes dinner, which all of the items were amazing. The question in the one photo of his with the crab cakes is the little brown nugget looking things which tasted kind of like caramelized plantains or sweet potatoes. The description on the menu does not say anything other than Coastal vegetables. But they were really good; not too sweet but yummy. We also enjoyed a couple of drinks and overall really enjoyed the meal, the service and the atmosphere. This is definitely a place that we could go to again!

Yelp
If you want a tropical lunch spot on the water- I found it. What a great place. I had a fantastic waiter, maybe the greatest one I've ever had. Very friendly, interested in making sure we were enjoying the food, and ambiance. We sat right on the water, overlooking the bridge. It was perfect. The cutest addition were the cute little cats that roamed around the tables - they never jumped up or bothered anyone- they just scared away the annoying seagulls/birds. I really loved my lunch and the drinks were SO yummy.

Yelp
Great service! Relaxing! My dog and I enjoyed the Friday chill! The view was lovely! The food was okay, my gator bites were too tiny! I've had them in larger quantities.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and plenty of servers. This place knows that they are busy and back it up with staff. Fresh fish and seafood. If you are from out of town or a local this is a place you want to hang out and have some drinks. Live music the whole time we were there. The musicians play from the back of a boat. Place is spread out, well decorated and right on the water. I will post my photos. I'll be back. Thanks to our servers Jessica and Maria they were awesome

Yelp
Very, very good food and ambiance. Traveled in to Tampa on 11/7/25, drove 9+ hrs to my hotel. Asked where a "Seafood " restaurant, that was open (~ 3:30 pm) and was shown some restaurants. Long story short all these restaurants didn't open 'till later. Found "Salt Shack" on Google and ate there!! Like I mentioned at the first - very, very good food!!

Yelp
Located out in the spit south of Tampa in what appears to be an area that was once industrial and now transitioning to a more residential/commercial spot. This restaurant is huge. So much seating and most of it outdoors makes this a place I expected to be swamped. It was busy but maybe 50% of capacity. Indoor and Outdoor bars. Lots of great spots to sit and eat and drink and enjoy the water. We had a fish platter and shrimp and fries along with salads and multiple drinks. Oh yah we had a conch starter that was tasty. Out the door it was $160 for two so not a cheap spot but we spent a lot on booze. Service was friendly and attentive. Food came quickly and the options were decent. Oh yah, it's dog friendly so we were able to bring the dog and let her lounge and enjoy as well. She gave it 4 stars too. The only thing that would make it 5 stars would be an improvement in the parking area and some enhanced food options and the shrimp basket was a little anemic in terms of quantity.

Yelp
A hidden gem in the middle of no where lol. When I first got here I was skeptical as to why salt shack on the bay came highly recommended to me... dang was I super judgey for that. Don't judge a book by its cover! Salt shack on the bay is its own oasis. You step out of a construction zone and step into paradise with water views. My group was immediately greeted by a staff member and seated. This establishment offers indoor and outdoor seating. We opted for indoor seating however the entire place is open air which I loved. Service throughout was great! Our server checked in on us the perfect amount of times. It gave us time to look over the menu, chat and enjoy each others company. I started out with a speciality cocktail annnnd I forgot the name of it and what was in it, FAIL. However I can say that the 2 drinks I had were refreshing and had me buzzing. For food I started with the lobster bisque which was creamy but a little too salty for my liking. Next I shared the mahi tacos as well as the catch of the day (red snapper grilled). OMGGGGGGG, the fish was cooked and seasoned to perfection. It was full of flavor and delicious. The sides that came with the catch of the day were the perfect side dishes for this entree. The maduros were sweet and yummy. The rice was flavorful and the broccolini was cooked perfectly.

Yelp
Amazing service, drinks, food, and vibes! Salt Shack On the Bay is a great place to soak up the outdoors and enjoy a yummy bite to eat with friends. I recommend going around sunset, as it has some of the best views in Tampa! I ordered the Mahi fish tacos and I loved that they came out hot and were topped with fresh avocado and vegetables. The frozen piña coladas do not disappoint! If coconut isn't really your thing, the sangrias are also delicious. Salt Shack also has a wide selection of mocktails to enjoy.

Yelp
If you are looking for a restaurant/bar with an open-air, beach vibes and possible views of the water, this should be an option. Such a cute beach concept. From the entrance, shipwreck where the live musician performs to shell waiting area with lounge chairs. Be prepared to wait if you go on a Saturday between 7-9pm. Our wait was 50mins. Lots of people and large parties waiting. The drinks are great but The Shack piña colada stood out! There is a "verbal" kids menu so just ask if you need it. I had the grilled gulf shrimp. It wasn't a large portion for $26 but it did satisfy and it was tasty. If you are on the hungrier side, I would recommend the Rasta Pasta. Overall, I would come back.

Yelp
Went here for dinner with a friend, great water front location, very large place with 2 bars and open seating. Large selection of seafood, all good. Had deep fried oysters for the app, then went to the great lobster bisque and finished with grouper prices all of which were cooked well and had a great taste. Our server was very nice and made great suggestions, definitely a come back place to go to.

Yelp
I loved the vibe and the views of this place! I went here for lunch and I can say the ambiance was amazing! We were sat fairly quickly after a rough time finding the parking lot and how to get in due to construction! It's ok that happens! Our server was great with my order and the drinks however for the person I was with, well let's just say the order was wrong twice. He was nice enough to not say anything but honestly it should have been sent back for the second time. She was attentive enough without being too over bearing. I liked my ceviche and tuna tartare but the fish served to my counterpart was not cooked "soft" as requested. Flavor was ehh nothing to boast about. I enjoy this place for what it is. Light bites and beautiful atmosphere. I'd come back for atmosphere alone. I wouldn't recommend this establishment for the food itself.

Yelp
On our way to Tampa via Gandy on Wednesday (6/18/25) noted the restaurant on right.....WOW . So glad we stopped in! We shared the clams casino (1st time ) it was good not great. I had the red fish with wild rice & plantains... AWESOME , my son had the mahi tacos / cilantro cream sauce with the yucca fries .. oh soo good. This is such a cool place, exceptionally large with lots of terrific seating. We ate outside yes under a canopy not far from the water. Nice breezes in our warm weather. Service was exceptional, friendly, clean and pleasant. Sangria spot on along with several selection of craft beer. I think with only 2 restaurants here and Claremont .. it's kinda of local. It's definitely worth a try. Prices are comparable to most other restaurants. Kudos to the chef, staff and owner for having such a great place.

Yelp
Came to Tampa for one night. Got to catch up with a friend at Salt Shack. I ordered the shrimp peel basket with a side of fries. It was delicious. The restaurant sits on the bay and has tons on seating. Great atmosphere. The service was outstanding and attentive.
