So fresh, so tasty, and so rich with flavor. There was a nice kick to the sauce and it made the dish all that much better. This restaurant was an experience and definitely worth it to make the trip. Service: 5/5 - Super friendly and welcoming staff. Ambiance: 4/5 - The area was a secluded and not so populated warehouse/commercial district. It's not the greatest but the space for this restaurant is very clean.

a really great scandinavian lunch experience with efficient service, delicious food and ingredients, and a nice ambiance. canteen style with a rotating menu every weekday (1 meat, 1 vegetarian, check their website for the menu). lunch is usually 125sek and comes with unlimited bread. high quality ingredients and flavors: i came on a friday afternoon when they were serving lamb salad (mint, greens, peas). the salad was fresh and the lamb was flavorful. generous portions and good bread. restaurant was bustling around 12:30pm with a lot of locals and what seems to have been coworkers. lots of indoor and outdoor tables. the canteen is on the other side of the bridge at the end of the long pier/near warehouses. it's a bit out of the way so you definitely wouldn't stumble upon it, but i highly recommend taking the walk/bike/drive out. there is a malmö by bike station right next to the restaurant. i would definitely come back!

The food, flavour-wise, is bombastic!!! It’s absolutely tasty and delicious. Simple (one item on the menu with vegan option) and yummy. The mashed potato is the creamiest I ever tasted. The rooster was tender and the sauce was devilishly saucy! I loved the food. 😍 Service got a 3 star because you had to cut your own bread. Pick up the food plate from the counter, get your cutlery, drinking glass and water bottle, and then find a spot to seat. After eating you’d return your empty plate to the counter. So basically, like you were back in boarding school or something of the sort. Nevertheless, I suppose it’s part of the Swedish charm? 🤷🏾‍♂️ Atmospherically banal in my honest opinion. They could use some interior touches but then again it’s just a “lunch restaurant”. I’ll be returning there no doubt. Just for the food. 😋

Hidden gem! Tasty and filling meal, nice atmosphere. The place got full of people around twelve, it is loved by many :)

I've been coming to this popular lunch spot off and on since it opened. The food has consistently been good, and the friendly staff has always enhanced the experience. Unfortunately, my visit today was disappointing, which genuinely saddened me, as Malmö doesn't have many good lunch restaurants left. First of all, the music was far too loud, forcing us to speak uncomfortably loud just to have a normal conversation during lunch. An oversight, perhaps? Secondly, the vegetarian option listed on their website was completely different from what we were served: sautéed cabbage in a spicy cumin sauce with crème fraîche, for which we paid a whopping SEK 135 (bread and water included, but coffee was not). I believe this is an exorbitant price for such an unimaginative and unsatisfying vegetarian lunch, which, quite frankly, left me feeling embarrassed on the restaurateur's behalf. I hope this was just another oversight. It's always hard to criticize a place that has been rightfully successful for many years, but my guests and I felt that today's experience fell short of both our expectations and the restaurant's previously well-deserved reputation.

Interesting combination of ingredients that ends up as a very tasty meal. Meat was perfectly made, cauliflower somehow tasted better than usual and the yellow sauce was very delicious as well. Would definitely recommend 🤩

A visit to Malmö is just not complete without a visit to this pearl! Absolute food Mekka and on top run by wonderful people. Year after year: a trusty place for good quality!

I came to Malmo for the day during my week in Copenhagen. Before leaving Canada I found out about Saltimporten Canteen and put it on my "to do" list in Malmo. It more than lived up to its solid reputation! The day I visited the meat option was braised beef shortrib, which was served with the best bulgher wheat I have ever had, along with spinach and a yogurt sauce. The entire dish was delectable. Additionally, the self-serve bread is fantastic - beautiful crumb and flavour. As well as the food, I love the scandinavian modern aesthetic. If you love good food (bonus, it's a bargain for the quality), don't miss Saltimporten Canteen!

Tucked away in an industrial, harborside area of Malmo is a lunch-only restaurant defining the modern lunch. On a recent trip to Copenhagen, we took the train 40 minutes each way just to dine at Saltimporten Canteen and it was worth the time (and train ticket). Here's why you should go: 1) Food: Monday through Friday they made two dishes per day. The main dish is a meat one that changes daily. They also make a vegetarian option. My friend and I went on a Monday and had the flank steak, mushroom, potato and sun flower. It came on a bed of arugula and some thick butter sauce. (It may have well been straight salted butter. Whatever it was, it was divine.) Although a simple dish, the combination of flavors was perfect- refreshing, earthy and filling. 2) Concept: It's open for three hours- 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. during the week. You walk into the large dining room with wood community tables. The kitchen is open. Walk up, cut a slice of fresh bread and order the meat or vegetarian dish. Grab a bottle of water and find a seat. Once you're done, clear your plates at the open kitchen and go about your day. 3) Space: It's beautifully designed from the plates to the long tables to the simple coat hooks along the back wall. It's a very inviting space. 4) Price: For one of the best lunches we've ever had, it's reasonable. It's around $10 for lunch. A local told us that if you finish still hungry, the chef will hand you another plate free of charge. If you're a foodie, don't miss lunch at Saltimporten Canteen. It may be the best meal you have in Malmo.

Probably the greatest lunch in Malmö, maybe even in the whole south of Sweden area! They have two dishes, one with meat, and the other is usually vegetarian (or rarely fish), cooked by some of the most professional chefs in the country! An easy bargin, but hard to get to, prepare yourself for a 30 min walk if you are in the city center (but do follow the cruise terminal shortcut!). Don't forget the bread, and try the soft icecream for dessert (if it's available). 6 of 5!

My favourite lunch place in Malmö I usually go for their Vegetarian dishes to get some inspiration for my own cooking at home! Always highest quality on raw materials, and follow the season every month Dishes with a Nordic twist, and always visually attractive

Well worth the walk! Great food in an unexpected place. Canteen atmosphere (self-service, cut your own slices of delicious sourdough bread, simple interior) meets high-quality food and interestingly combined ingredients, off the beaten tourist tracks.

Fine example of old time Nordic cuisine at a ridiculously low price. I say price even though there are two menu options: meat and vegetarian. I actually saw one person with a beer; everyone else had water. (Remember in Sweden drunk driving means a blood alcohol level of greater than .02%, less than one drink.) Our meal was tiny crisp cubes of lamb (shoulder?) with bulgar wheat, beets, beet leaves and copious creamy yogurt. Twenty bucks for the both of us.

This place is amazing. A bit difficult to find, if you're on a bike, as I was, as it's off in a more industrialized part of town. But once you find it - oh boy! Really great service, the food is off the hook delicious, very affordable, tables both inside and out. There are only two dishes available - one meat and one veggie, but I loved the fact that I didn't have to consult a huge menu in Swedish that I wouldn't understand anyway... I went Thursday and then went back Friday as well - I would have gone back Saturday, but they're closed on weekends! Do yourself a favor and visit this wonderful spot! Can't say enough good things...

I got quite tasty food with decent price. It was so nice view near the sea. If I travel to Malmö again, I would definitely get there again!

Seriously, just go. Random, hard to get to location. Amazing meal. Three of us from the United States that love food - I own a restaurant, friend is a classically trained chef from culinary institute of America - we all agreed it was outstanding. Go.

High ceilings, clean modern counterspace, large windows, warm cozy lights, and awesome long bench tables. Delicious food. One meat and one veggie dish available, changes daily. There's a loaf of bread near where you order, it's self-serve to cut yourself a piece or two. Go here.
