15 Cool Riffs on Nashville Hot Chicken Around Music City

"The Nashville hot oysters at Saltine involve zero poultry, but they stand out when it comes to hot chicken style entrees in Nashville. These fried oysters pack all the flavor of traditional hot chicken but the use of fried oysters gives each bite an unexpected taste." - Kristy Lucero, Delia Jo Ramsey

Saltine Opens Today with a Feast of Oysters, Ramen, and Gumbo - Eater Nashville

"At 11 a.m., on Wednesday, May 2, highly anticipated Saltine officially opens its Nashville outpost. Restaurant openings on West End Ave. are few and far between these days, so the addition of this seafood and oyster-focused restaurant and bar by way of Jackson, Miss. is a big get. Taking over the former home of Blackstone Restaurant & Brewery at 1918 West End Ave., the 9,000-square-foot eatery features a wide-ranging menu for lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch from chef Steven Robilio, who also runs the kitchen at 4-Top Hospitality’s Amerigo next door." - Erin Perkins

Enjoyed happy hour at the bar. Good friendly service and the raw Gulf oysters were excellent. Drunk tourists cleared out after about 30 minutes and their absence made the experience that much better.

Went to Saltine for the first time I must say they kind of started out on a bad foot by telling my wife we couldn't eat by the window because they had a big party they needed the table for in order to make enough room. So we got put in the corner and only minutes later the same person seated a party 4, which we were, at the same table my wife asked to sit at. It's obvious he lied in order to appease someone else who wasn't even there yet. At any rate our waiter was very nice and friendly, although over worked, and was as attentive as he could be considering. I believe they just didn't have the staff to cover the tables correctly. Once our food arrived it was delicious, everything was hot and fresh and tasted great, except the dessert because it was cold and fresh and tasted great! I would definitely go back but I sincerely hope they do a better job of staffing and not telling stories. The food is what took this rating to 4 stars..

I attended a work function at Saltine last night and enjoyed the experience very much. They are known for seafood so I went with the fish and chips—a simple dish, certainly, but executed well. It came with two huge pieces of fish, more than I could eat myself. The cod they used didn’t taste fishy at all... just clean-tasting and not overcooked or dry like fried fish can sometimes be. It wasn’t overly salty either. It was pretty much perfect... crunchy batter, hot on the inside, freshly cooked. Make sure to get the vinegar to shake on your fish too... although it’s also served with a herby, creamy tartar sauce and ketchup. The simple, hand-cut-style fries (with peel intact) were served underneath the fish and could have been a bit more crispy but they were still tasty. Like the tartar sauce, the little hushpuppies on the side were a bit more elevated than your typical fast food version. The food took a little while to come compared to some other work events I’ve attended, but we were a decent sized group, so that sometimes happens. I wish I had ordered the triple chocolate dessert—I got the bread pudding, which wasn’t bad, but a little boring compared to the chocolate one which looked amazing and rich. I would definitely come back again to try other items from their menu. Also, their drink menu looked interesting as well.

I love this place! First of all, it looks gorgeous. I love the openness and the light! And all the employees are SO nice! The bartenders and servers made me feel very welcome and did an amazing job. My servers knew the menu and were very gracious and helpful. I had a glass of their punch and then the house red blend and both were fantastic! For dinner I had the seafood pasta and oh my goodness it was by far the best seafood pasta I've had. It's creamy, rich, and flavorful. My friend had the fish and chips, which were also so good! (And very nicely presented!) Then my server recommended that we try the cinnamon roll cheesecake and it was life changing to say the least. Warm cinnamon roll on top of cool, creamy cheesecake and topped with candied pecans. I'm pretty sure I will never be the same. I will absolutely be coming back--many, many times. :) Update: came back for brunch and it was AMAZING!!

Good food and service. Loved the parking lot for convenience. The baked oysters were okay. The rib sandwich was really good. Super cute beach vibes. The drinks are really strong.

We came in with a large group for our monthly ladies out evening. It was a reserved set up. The restaurant was well prepared for us. Dealing with the individual checks and drink orders were all done great. The food was tasty and service well presented and with solid flavor. Parking lot was packed so parking was a little effort. They also had free hush puppies at happy hour with yelp.

My teenage kids and I had brunch at Saltine. First, it is a very pretty restauant. We sat in the area facing West end which feels like you are sitting in a swimming pool (in a good way). Our server was friendly and attentive. We drank some of the punch of the day, and ordered fried oysters with comeback sauce - delicious, as well as the Mississipi oysters. We had crab and lobster benedict and cioppino as well. I felt the clams in the cioppino were a bit chewy for my liking, but the shrimp and scallops in the herbacious broth were great, as was the grilled bread - perfect for sopping up the broth. Overall, an excellent meal. As we were leaving, several of the staff thanked us for coming in, displaying some good old fashioned hospitality. Saltine is definitely someplace worth visiting.

Beautiful restaurant, well decorated and clean. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Our waitress was great and answered any questions about the menu that we may have had. A few in our group enjoyed the oysters while I enjoyed the scallop dish with carrot and pea puree. Scallops were good to perfection and had a great flavor to them. A must try resturant while visiting nashville!
