We just got off our flight from ATL, and had two hours to wait for our family member to arrive before we all headed out. Our first thought was halibut fish and chips! This is something that is extraordinarily hard to find in Georgia, and always a treat when I return to the Pacific Northwest. As soon as we headed out in the airport to explore we spy Salty's at SEA!
Salty's is a favorite on the Columbia in Portland (our former home), so we knew we were in safe hands. We were seated promptly and when we told the staff that we were not in a hurry that we had just landed, she sat us in a quiet spot near the windows. There was no need to look at the menu, we knew what we wanted. We got the three piece fish and chips to share. The pieces of halibut were large, and cooked perfectly! The batter is crunchy yet light enough to showcase the fish! It was a perfect size to share. The tartar sauce was tasty and since we were sharing, they brought us an extra serving of both the tartar sauce and catsup.
As a last minute whim, I ordered an Old Fashioned. I expected it to be good (it's my go to drink), but this was exceptional. I had to ask for the menu back to identify the whisky they were using.... it was Westland America Whiskey, distilled in Seattle. I was unfamiliar, but will look for it more often now, distilled in Seattle, it made my Old Fashioned a real treat.
So, while, I don't often make a big deal of airport food, or even plan on eating in the airport, if you have a moment to spare, don't hesitate to stop in and give Salty's a try. They were the perfect, relaxing, tasty start to our 4th of July weekend in Seattle.
