We were driving home to Long Beach and were told TO BE SURE to stop at Salty's. It was so worth it! Dynamite BBQ meat and outstanding jalapeño mac and cheese! People super nice too.

Sebastiano Caminiti

Google
For as much praise as this place gets, I don't think I've ever had such average BBQ before. There isn't anything positive other than it didn't give me food poisoning. The tri-tip was bland and somehow soggy, the chili beans tasted like someone added chili powder to pinto beans, and the potato salad... My god the potato salad... Why is it a MASHED potato salad..? I'd probably look elsewhere for BBQ, because if you're gonna pay $20 a person, you may as well enjoy it.

Google
The quality is absolutely horrible. I do not know how they are comfortable serving burned chicken. 0 stars, I will not be returning.

Brian Gonzalez

Google
I’m updating this review because the wait time was incredibly long for a simple order of 1 sandwich and one 1/2lbs combo. I placed my order almost an hour ago (5:08pm) and it’s 5:58 (50 minutes after placing my order) and I am still waiting for it after being told it would be ready over 30 minutes ago. I’m very disappointed in the way they are going way over their estimates times without any sort of apology or explanation. If you can’t meet the demand of your customers, hire accordingly or set proper expectations and don’t just forget about your customers.

Google
Absolutely amazing. Fast and friendly service. If this place was in Florida I'd be there several times a week. Great prices too.

By far the best brisket I have ever tasted!!! The food here is just great! Quick service and decent seating. We love their mac and cheese aswell as their green beans. But trust me when I say their brisket is delicious!

Google
My husband and I have been wanting to try Salty's for awhile now, but we live over an hour away, so trying to find the time to come to Bakersfield has been tough.... But we finally came tonight, and boy are we glad we did!! It was even better than people have said, and the pictures look! The meat melted in your mouth, the spicy mac-n-cheese was to die for, the Pyrenees rolls are a great addition to any meal, and we added a Sweet Tea, which tasted like it was straight from the South! My husband had the chili beans which were awesome as well! We will definitely be making the drive to come back to Salty's again.... It's worth it!!!

Google
Salty's is definitely worth the drive away from the 99. There is absolutely nothing bad I can say about their brisket or their pulled pork. I don't often drive through Porterville but when I do I'll make sure to stop by again. I ordered an extra tri-tip sandwich to go ... I can clearly understand why it was featured in diners drive-ins dives.

Yelp
Best BBQ in town hands down. The staff is always super friendly, the vibe is always great. Everyone is always happy eating BBQ... the second you get out of your car you get the aroma of smoked meat, can't beat it! This is a place I try to get to at least on a monthly basis. Never a bad meal eating here!

Yelp
Food: The food here was good! I tried the tri-tip, brisket and pulled pork sandwiches. All great choices of cut meats. All were very tender, Smokey flavor (without the sauce) and filling. My favorite was the tri-tip sandwich with the spicy mac&cheese. Bomb! Service: Staff are fast and efficient. I placed an order of 6 combos and got it within 12 mins. Only thing I would recommend is that they get a mic and speaker when calling out orders. It's hard to hear your number being called out with lots of people talking and cars flying by. Ambiance: It's very simple here. They got several tables in the front and along the side of the driveway going into the rear parking lot. I didn't see any restrooms here which might be a bad thing if you got to go (I may be wrong though). The parking lot is a dirt lot, so expect your vehicle to catch some dust. Other than that, the BBQ is very good! Definitely coming back out when visiting family. Worth checking out if you're looking for some good BBQ out here in the area.

Yelp
Passed by here a couple of times & finally decided to stop by. Unfortunately, we did go later in the day and they ran out of pork ribs, so we ordered the brisket & pulled pork dinner, (which both came with two regular sides) + an extra hot link on the side. If I could have ordered again, I definitely would have gotten an extra piece of bread because it was not enough lol The portion of brisket / pulled pork + the sides was pretty good for the price, I think! The brisket was juicy but also too much fat at times, whereas the pulled pork was a little bit dry, but I ended up drenching them in the sauce anyways. The mac & cheese + the coleslaw were actually pretty good! I would have to agree with other reviews that the potato salad was.... lowkey not very good and I would definitely skip it even if you think you love potato salad.

Yelp
I visited a customer in Fresno and he mentioned this place in Bakersfield. I'm glad he did. I marked it as a place to go on Yelp. They had a good menu of various bbq'd proteins. I went with the 1/4 lb tri-tip (you can get brisket, I took tri-tip on recommendation from employee) and 1/4 lb pulled pork and the combo comes with one side, I chose cole slaw. I added the chili beans for extra charge. The pulled pork and tri-tip was smoked well and very tasty. The bbq sauce was sweet and tangy. The cole slaw was crispy and needed no extra seasoning. The chili beans were good too. My only wish is if they had peach cobbler for dessert.

Yelp
If you're in the area make sure and stop into Saltys , you will not be disappointed. I ordered the 1/2 chicken, 2 beef ribs, 2 pork ribs and coleslaw, It was warm outside and they did have misters on which made it comfortable. BB King was the music of the day and it set a fantastic mood to eat by. Great dry rub on the ribs . The bbq sauce had a very mild twang, I started with both hands on the beef ribs, they were good , I moved right on to the pork ribs , great dry rub and smoky flavor, then onto the chicken, bread roll and coleslaw, it was really good, the staff was super friendly, great parking , definitely good

Yelp
Was craving BBQ and found this place .... I'm sorry to say I'm not impressed, food portions were ok , ribs a bit on the greasy side and sides were very small , for $45 I found it a bit pricey for a place where there's no inside seating. I'm not saying it was bad , I'm just saying I'd eat here again if I was close by, but wouldn't make a special trip to come here .

Yelp
Ain't nothin' like Salty's. Keeping Bakersfield and Kerstrong for several decades! All first responders were shown appreciation for laying their lives on the line DAILY, to keep us safe, on this 23rd anniversary of the cowardly attack on The Twin Towers in NYC, in 2001.

Yelp
I think I'm finally done with Salty's on Rosedale, at least for a while. Been a regular customer for over 15 years. The last 3 meals over a 6 week period just haven't been up to their usual quality. The one thing they never get wrong is the brownies with the toasted marshmallow on top, always a winner. But Wednesdays beef rib, pork ribs, with coleslaw combo was really bad. The roll and the pork rib were the only things edible, that and the brownie with toasted marshmallow were great. However the beef rib was SO dried out, had zero tender meat on it, near jerky is the best way to describe it. The coleslaw, which I've loved in the past, had so much vinegar in it that IT was all you tasted. It also looked like it may have been at the end of its shelf life, not fresh at all. One bite and it went straight into the trash. The beef rib went to the dog, so not all was a loss. I will eventually go back, but I'll be sticking to the brisket and beans, they've never been bad, and of course the brownie with toasted marshmallow on top. I'm hopeful that whatever going on with their quality control gets some attention, and soon.

Yelp
There is nothing like the smell of meat being smoked. The water misters were a welcome relief. There were four or five people in line to order and a couple folks waiting for their food. The line moved pretty quick. I ordered a tri tip dinner with green beans and rice pilaf to go. The fragrance of the smoked beef was amazing. Food was good, the toasted roll was chewy and fresh, perfectly seasoned. I prefer onion and bacon on my green beans, but the spices were tasty on these. And no, they were not canned green beans. Skinny little beans with a great flavor. Rice was really good too. The bbq sauce was Smokey and a bit spicy - not too much - very enjoyable. A great meal!

Yelp
Walk up window. Ordered the dinner family meal. 1 pound of tritip and 1 pound of pulled pork. Also ordered rack of ribs, pork. They have the best mac and cheese EVER! I was happily satisfied with all the food. Next time, hopefully they'll have brisket!

Yelp
Best BBQ in town. The Beef Ribs are amazing. Also is a BIG SUPPORTER of Honor Flight Kern County.

Yelp
Ordered from Uber eats. First it was reasonably priced for BBq and delivery. It was prepared fast and delivered in about 30 minutes total. The portion was big and the food was delicious. The ribs were so smoky and tasty and feel off the bone. The tri tip was delicious and smoky. Mac n Cheese was pretty good even though I prefer classic man n cheese they add jalapeño which I don't really care for but overall a great dinner!!

Anthony R.

Yelp
We found this place on our way back home from Kernville. My son found it on Yelp, so we decided to try it out. We also knew that Guy from Diners/Drive-Ins and Dives had visited this place. We were not disappointed. We ordered a rack of pork ribs, Pull Pork Sandwich, and a Tri-Tip Sandwich. The two cashier ladies that helped me out were very helpful and kind. The food was served within 10 minutes The meat for all the meals was seasoned just right and tender. The best part was their barbecue sauce. It is the best I have ever tasted. We ordered a large portion to go. We will be using it on our barbecue We will definitely be coming back soon with friends and family I hope they take good care of their barbecue chef. He truly knows how to smoke the meet just right!

Julie M.

Yelp
The first time I ate at Salty's, I wasn't very impressed. That was a long time ago and I absolutely love the food here! I love the way the rolls are grilled. From tri-tip and pulled pork to their chicken salad, everything is delicious. It was my birthday recently, and my family goes out for dinner at the restaurant of choice of the birthday person. This year I chose take out from Salty's. The family dinner gives you 2lbs of meat, 2 Lg sides, salad, and 4 dinner rolls for $66. We had 5 people and there were plenty of leftovers. Just FYI that the chicken is served on the bone, it's not chopped like it is for salads. Thank you, Salty's!

Yelp
Went to this place over the long weekend after a day trip to Sequoia, and it didn't disappoint! Not only I have a blast visiting my friends in Bakersfield, but they offer some authentic and good food as well. The city is developing, and so is the people and all the buildings :) We had to wait quite a while for our food, not sure why. They ran out some of the ribs we wanted to try, and their coke was out as well, so the drink was on them when we came. Be prepared to sit outdoors since they don't have an actual building that you can sit inside, but they have a dedicated parking lot.
google avatar

Kurt R.

Yelp
Never had a bad experience with Salty's. The food had always been top notch, and they've always been quick to get our order out. If you're in Bakersfield and you want some good barbecue, you can't really go wrong with Salty's.
google avatar

Wicke T.

Yelp
my wife and I stopped here on our vacation passing through and this was one of the best things we ate while on vacation. I ordered the salty special sandwich and she ordered the tri-tip salad and this is a place we wish was down the street from us
google avatar

Melissa D.

Yelp
After hearing about this place over and over finally in the area to try it. All the meat was really good. Between our family we tried the pork ribs, brisket, chicken and pulled pork. The spicy mac and cheese , green beans was very good also. The wait for us was very short though we went in between lunch and dinner . The only item we weren't not overly impressed with was the potato salad. The extras in it were a bit sparse. Though won't stop us from coming again just will choose a different side.

Chris E.

Yelp
Waited on hold for 10 Minutes trying to make a to go order. called back 3 times and no answer... cant order online without giving credit card, Gave up after 20 minutes and called Prime Time BBQ!!!! They picked up on the 2nd ring and took my order. Sorry Salty's, your food is good, but you customer service sucks and I will not be coming back!

Sonia P.

Yelp
Tried this place for the first time on Sunday of Memorial Weekend and it was so good! We had a complicated order but they got it all right with the sides and everything. That rarely happens anywhere these days! And the gal taking the order was super patient with my many questions. We decided that when we're craving barbecue, we're going back to Salty's! Keep up the great work guys!!

Yelp
I love their BBQ. My favorite is the chicken !!! They bbq it and it's moist . It is so good. Their staff is really, really friendly . Love their beef and pork ribs. Tri tip with their BBQ sauce is gooooood. The spicy Mac and cheese is delicous . You can smell that good bbq as you walk up. Worth the hype
google avatar

David M.

Yelp
My now favorite bq , the tri tip sandwich was huge with slaw and yellow peppers, just the right amount of heat ! Mac and cheese the same with peppers in it , like guy would say this place is fire !!!!!!
google avatar

Beckie C.

Yelp
We have not been disappointed, on the meat , especially on the beef Ribs.Even with a line of 5 people, you can still expect to get you food in less than 10 minutes.

Yelp
I have been on a kick of watching reruns of Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives with Guy Fieri and this restaurant came up on an episode I watched over the weekend! I was super excited when my office suggested we go here for lunch because I had been thinking about the place for days lol! I have been trying to eat a little healthier, so I opted for the 1/2 chicken dinner with double green beans for the sides and I was so happy with the portion sizes! I planned to break this up into two meals and it was perfect for that. The dinner comes with an entree, two sides, and a Pyrenees roll, cut in half. My coworkers were raving about the spicy mac n cheese and the chili beans.. I might just have to stray from my new years resolution and come back here for the sides! We ordered through DoorDash and were quoted a delivery time of 12:20. We were pleasantly surprised when our food arrived closer to 12 o'clock. Everything was exactly how we ordered it and still warm! All in all, the food was great, and I am sure I will be back in no time!
google avatar

Toni M.

Yelp
Delicious BBQ! Friendly customer service. Great place to stop by for a quick bite. My husband & I share a combo and it was perfect size for us.
google avatar

Sergey O.

Yelp
Solid bbq every time we come here. Flavor has never lacked and the meats have always been quality. The staff is always nice and friendly and the most system hits the spot on a hot summer day. Must try!
google avatar

Alexandria R.

Yelp
A shocking find for BBQ in California! Coming from someone who has BBQ from Texas to the Carolina's and many places in between this is top three! It's a cute little place with massive smoker! Felt like a southern transplant. It's a walk up deal with order windows and outdoor picnic tables. This place was visited by Guy Fierri and I understand why! Food was ready fairly quickly and was full of flavor! The size portion was pretty decent we shared the tritip and brisket combo and had green beans as the side. The meat though really caught me off guard, not dry or even slightly! The BBQ sauce wasn't needed but wow so delicious and just the cherry on top.

D. D.

Yelp
I Always get an order of the beef ribs they are fall off the bone good!!! I also love the BBQ sauce!!!!!!!

Liz R.

Yelp
The meat is delicious, especially the brisket and tri-tip. The beef ribs don't have enough meat on them, so I recommend getting the sandwiches instead. Love the bread that they use for the sandwiches and how they toast them. Out of the few sides that they have, the only one I liked was the green beans. The other sides lack in taste and flavor, especially the potato salad and chili beans. They should add more side options such as mashed potatoes, French fries, and cornbread. The wait time was reasonable, and the staff was friendly. They only have outdoor seating with no heaters, so we took the food to go.

Dave F.

Yelp
Always delicious with kind service. Trying to hit as many diners drive and dives locations and this does not disappoint.
google avatar

Chris P.

Yelp
The beef rib had a nice season to it, but unfortunately It's just too tough. Can't get any meat off the bone, really. Hot link was okay but also overcooked. Beef Ribs Beef Ribs Beef Ribs Hot Link.

Kee R.

Yelp
**DISCLAIMER: Kid review (10yo) This place is sooo good! Let me explain, so me and my parents were coming here but first I went to the bread it was perfectly seasoned. Then I just tried the hot links the texture was fantastic. The bbq sauce was spicy and blew my mind. Then I got one chicken wing and was cooked so good that the bone just slid out. Also tri-tip is usually hard but it was amazingly soft! Ohh I forgot to mention the service was so good they were so nice! The ambiance was relaxing and picnic like. So if you're going to a good grill come to salty's.
google avatar

Brian R.

Yelp
IYKYK!!! DINERS, Drive Ins and Dives approved, this is the spot for the best BBQ in Bakersfield! I cater this often for offices around Bakersfield and never get a complaint! Don't cheat those taste buds!

Yelp
This was by far the worst experience we've ever had at Salty's on Rosedale Hwy. I ordered our food at 3PM for a 5PM pick up. My husband arrived at 5:10 and the food wasn't ready. He didn't get our order until 5:30. The fact that the order was 30 minutes late was already bad enough, but what we received was even worse. Now let me preface this with the fact that we have eaten at Salty's many times, and know what their food should/could taste like. We actually haven't been completely satisfied the past few times we've ordered due to one item being burnt here and there, but decided to give it one last shot. Tonight's meal was honestly disgusting. Our order tonight consisted of a chicken and ribs combo, a brisket and ribs combo, and a half pound order of brisket. The brisket was dry, chalky, and burnt. It wasn't edible. Both the pork and beef ribs that came with our meals were so burnt and tough, you could barely rip the meat off the bone, and that was with considerable effort. We spent $71 on our meal tonight and I ate the only thing that wasn't absolutely garbage, which was the beans and spicy mac. I am beyond disappointed at the amount of money that we spent, the tardiness of our order, and the abysmal quality of the food. We will not be returning.
google avatar

Michael H.

Yelp
I LOVE this place - too bad it's 100 miles away from me. The smell when I drove up was pure Heaven - HAHA. The food was delicious (see photos) - the beef rib was not as meaty as I expected but the flavor was on point. The lady that took my order was very helpful and apologized for the wait as they were busy when I arrived. Can't wait to go back when I'm in town again!
google avatar

Ericka H.

Yelp
We have been customers of Salty's for years. Lately service and food quality have been declining. Tonight, we placed an order for pick up on Uber Eats at 6:10pm. I received a notification that it was ready at 6:25. My husband went to pick it up and was told it wasn't ready. Half an hour later, he saw our food sitting on the floor. They never told him it was ready. He waited almost an hour, only to find our food sitting on the floor. Of course items were missing when he finally got the food home. Also, the food quality was as sub-par. Burnt, greasy and fatty brisket. Shriveled and cold hot link. Undercooked peach cobbler. Absolutely disappointing and overpriced, we will not be ordering from Salty's again.
google avatar

Mary M.

Yelp
Ribs were out of this world. I had the beef ribs and they were smoky, salty, and deliciously meaty. My husband had the baby ribs and they were tender and delicious. Coleslaw was delicious. Just the right amount of mayo and cider. My husband loved the beans. Best overall place for outdoor eating and RIBS. You'll love the Smokey flavor.
google avatar

Miguel I.

Yelp
We thought we were hooked after trying Salty's. We went back to back three Friday's in a row. Every time the service was great, good at a minimum. The first two times we received fresh and good proportions of food. Not sure what exactly might of happened the third time. Both our chicken piece and tritip were dry and small proportioned compared to the usual (especially the tritip) and our spicy mac was soggy this time around. We got a few ribs, one which was small and another had almost nothing but a huge fat cap. The rolls and beans were great as usual. For almost $50, we were just hoping to get the usual we had received on our previous visits. All being said, I'd still recommend this joint to anyone craving some good BBQ; chances are you'll still get a great meal, we just happen to stop by on a bad night.
google avatar

Brenda A.

Yelp
Good food, portions a little small for the price but service was great and fast. Not in the worst part of town.
google avatar

Kwon K.

Yelp
This place is definitely one my favorite places in Bakersfield. I really want to give it the full five stars but sometimes they lack consistency. I usually order the chicken and ribs 1/2 combo. Food is always seasoned to perfection. Definitely recommend this place.
google avatar

Justin M.

Yelp
When it comes to Bakersfield and barbecue in recent years there really hasn't been much to choose from. That was until Saltys barbecue came on the scene. This place put Bakersfield on the map for some good old fashion barbecue. Now when it comes to the looks of this place do not let size fool you, this is no big fancy establishment. This is a small walk up to the window and order what it is that you would like kind of place. But when it comes to Saltys barbecue it has it were it counts. The salty's special is everything that a good barbecue sandwich could have that West Coast tri-tip, some good old fashion pulled pork and some nice cool coleslaw to pull that all together. The lines do get long at this place during lunch and dinner time so come prepared for a little bit of a wait but trust me when I say that it is well worth the wait
google avatar

Molly S.

Yelp
I enjoy their pulled pork sandwich, and their rice pilaf side is my favorite. There is a bit of a wait for the food, but it's because everything is made fresh. There isn't a whole lot of seating, so I take my order to go typically. Parking is on a dirt lot but there is plenty of it.

Miranda M.

Yelp
I am not the biggest BBQ/meat person but this food was 10/10. The quality was very good, service was fast. I ordered a Brisket sandwich with spicy Mac n cheese. Definitely will come here again.

Debbie ..

Yelp
If you like your Brisket tough and dry, this is the place for you! I keep hoping it will improve, but it hasn't.
google avatar

Cynthia S.

Yelp
The service is horrible!! We ordered at 6:07pm and the time is now 7:00pm. Our food is still not here. Honestly, they don't even deserve 1 star. We went to asked about our order and they told us "we're working on it" would I come back. ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!
google avatar

Kendall A.

Yelp
............................................................... I didnt want to say anything. The third time they messed up our order. We actually liked this place.
google avatar

Adrian O.

Yelp
I ordered the 1/2 pound tri-tip dinner and double upped on the spicy mac (a little hack if you don't know what sides to get because the mac is ). The BBQ sauce was hot this time which went excellent with the meat! I say this time because in my experience, it is hit or miss, it doesn't always come hot... maybe it's just my experience? Overall, food is great, price is decent, but there is not the best seating arrangement (limited seating). And it's a popular place so there tends to ve a line. My advice is to order something to go rather than eat there unless you are having a quick meal. Not an ideal dinner date location.
google avatar

Tina M.

Yelp
I hesitated for so long coming here because i definitely have my favourite in town and well my son is an amazing LTC (little tall chef) as my beautiful friend Graciela P named him and an avid BBQer ;)... But i keep seeing 4-5 star reviews of fellow yelpers and that got my curiosity going! My son said Hell No!! But i pushed for it and i took all the backlash as well hahaha!!! Don't hate on me this is personal experience and i really do not give bad reviews often only when deserved! It's not all bad so let's get to the good first shall we? Side dishes and bread...Nice touch with that garlic butter on the bread it definitely adds that extra oomph that is needed without that i would've had an even harder time choking down that dry ass tri tip so thank you for that! Spicy Mac and cheese Very good! Creamy, nice spicy hit at the back of the throat just needs a lil extra salt in my opinion. Coleslaw fantastic!! Chili beans Bomb!! Flavourful and nice ratio of meat to beans. Potato salad (not pictured) Decent but needed a heavy hand of salt potatoes are bland naturally so salted water and salt in the potato salad is needed. Salsa very fresh not too spicy perfect and needed for that tri tip it needs all the moisture it can get! Sorry ugh i just can't get out of my head how bad that was.... Salty's Special Sandwich...Tri tip, pulled pork, bbq sauce (great sauce) yellow peppers, coleslaw. Sounds delicious and could have been really delicious but that tri tip was dry AF very salty as well and the pulled pork tasted like crock pot pork no smoky flavour at all. Just a big mess of a sandwich with mediocre meat fail for both my son and I. Tri Tip Dinner...1/2 pound tri tip, 2 sides and bread....Ugh you can see in my photo dry decrepit tri tip overly salty and rich with lighter fluid cooking or fake smoke idk what that was my son was appalled Lol and actually pissed off he said "ummm this isn't real BBQ mom all you taste is lighter fluid cheap charcoal cooked meat" if they use wood we couldn't tell or maybe cheap wood who knows but that was the driest most offensive tri tip i've had in a long time. I know good tri tip Lol and this was not it! Epic fail sorry :( Pork spare rib dinner....Lordt!!! Zoom in the photo of this it was so dry and possibly old that the meat looked almost translucent in areas which in turn were inedible like meat a frat house left out on the counter for days!! I'm sorry idk how in the hell you can put ribs that bad in a container for people and not notice it's inedible! Literally i got a few bites of the "pork jerky ribs" the rest trash! Definitely quality issues with these meats and to be nice i didn't ask for my money back i just won't go back. Bbq is obviously personal to everyone and we all have our own tastes and if you love Salty's great i am happy for you to each their own :)...But for my son and I it is a Big Pass not our thing at all and a waste of money over $80 unfortunately....

Yelp
Ordered a tri tip salad.. , and the spicy macarony Delicious. Located a bit far from our house but worth the drive. Good customer service. Would definitely recommend.
