We are from out of town and were looking for a nice Italian restaurant. Salvatore's was where we ended up. The building is quite old and quaint. The server was good enough but the food was average. My wife got chicken piccata and I got the meat ball sandwich. She really enjoyed her meal but I think the bun could have been heartier for my sub. The same bun was used for the garlic bread. We loved the restaurant's rich history.

Stopped into Salvatore's Italian Restaurant & Pizza in Grand Rapids on a Monday evening around 6:30 PM and was seated immediately—no wait at all, which is always a nice start. The place has a casual, comfortable vibe, and everything looked clean and well-kept. My server was quick to greet me and super friendly throughout the visit, which made for a pleasant experience right off the bat. I ordered the Veal Parmesan, which came out in about 10 minutes—pretty quick for a freshly made dish. The plate looked solid: a generous cut of veal absolutely smothered in sauce and topped with a nice layer of melted cheese. It came with a side of spaghetti that complemented the main dish nicely. The veal had good flavor and was cooked well, and the sauce had a nice richness to it—not too sweet or salty, just a good, hearty red sauce. Nothing overly fancy, but definitely satisfying and felt homemade in the best way. All in all, it was a good, filling meal at a fair price. If I find myself back in Grand Rapids, I’d happily stop in again.

Salvatore’s made a great choice for dinner. It’s an old school Italian restaurant with a fairly no-frills interior but the food is the classic kind of red-sauce dishes that made the cuisine popular in the US. I got the sampler platter that came with cheese manicotti, cannelloni, and lasagna. It was delicious and very satisfying. They don’t skimp on the sauce or the cheese. Service was good, and it seems like a popular place. If you’re in the mood for some old-fashioned Italian, you can’t go wrong with Salvatore’s. They do a great job.

The atmosphere here definitely feels Italian. It's not a large place, but it does feel welcoming. I ordered the Sampler Platter ($22). This consist of small portions of Lasagna, Cheese Manicotti, and Cannelloni. The Lasagna is Layers of pasta, meat sauce, romano cheese, ricotta and mozzarella baked in tomato sauce. The Cheese Manicotti is Homemade crepes stuffed with seasoned beef or ricotta cheese. Baked in tomato sauce and mozzarella. Lastly the Cannelloni is Homemade crepes stuffed with seasoned beef, ham and peas. Baked in tomato sauce and mozzarella. I also got a side of Spaghetti ($4). Everything was very good. I would rank it Lasagna, Cannelloni, Spaghetti, then the Manicotti. The Garlic Bread and Chicken Noodle soup were also excellent. The person I qas with ordered the half order of Lasagna ($12). This person stated hers was excellent. The service was very good. Very attentive and friendly. Overall a 4 star review. Would I return? Yes, I will.

Best authentic Italian restaurant around. Old world pizza, subs as well as other great Italian dishes. The place was packed last night but the wait staff did an amazing job. It's good to see the great community support for this Westside eatery.

Google
The spinach and artichoke dip and bruschetta are great! I ordered the linguine carbonara, and our party agreed that it was one of the best dishes out of the ones we ordered. However, the other options were also good. Friendly staff! The patio seating is nice, and the indoor seating has a nice atmosphere. There is also bar seating. The parking lot is small, but there is overflow parking across the street from the Cherry health building.

Best Italian food in Grand Rapids area! 😋 Meatballs were tender& delicious! Chicken Marsala was perfect. Have been going here since the 80's. As good now, as was back then. Don't forget a Cannoli for dessert!

Google
4.8/5 Stars I'm a very big critic when it comes to places like this. Especially pizza. But let me start by saying this place is outstanding and very reasonable priced. I ordered 2 pizzas, the artichoke dip, salad, and chicken tenders. The dip was extremely good! Especially with the garlic bread. The salad had nothing but green lettuce and tasted amazing. The pizza is some of the absolute best I've ever tried! And I like to try pizza places all over the US. The chicken tenders we won't even count because it was the kids' menu, haha. Overall, this is one of the best pizza places in GR I have tried!!

Yelp
My second time here in a couple of years and we were a little skeptical reading some of the recent reviews about the food. We almost went someplace else, but decided to give it another go because our first time was not bad. When we pulled up, I got a little nervous because it wasn't really anybody in the restaurant, but we went in anyway. The server was nice and attentive. Sad us right away and took our drink order. I ordered the chicken marsala and chose the Caesar salad to go along with it. My boyfriend was torn between the lasagna and the spaghetti and meatballs, but went with the spaghetti and meatballs when the server told him it was on special that night. When the salad arrived, they were cold and on cold plates the lettuce was crispy. The Caesar dressing was perfect. It wasn't anything fancy it was a straightforward Caesar salad that was very good. The chicken marsala was massive! A ton of thin lightly pan seared chicken in a rich masala sauce over a huge bed linguine. There was plenty of mushrooms and it was full of flavor. I was not disappointed. My boyfriend spaghetti was good not spectacular but good. The meatballs made the dish. Again the waitress was attentive brought us plenty of garlic bread to go along with our meal and make sure our drinks were refilled. I. am glad that we didn't choose another place. I will say the decor is dated a little bit dirty but all in all I would go back.

Yelp
What did you do to your subs? Seriously. We come to town multiple times a year and we CANT WAIT to get the ham and cheese subs. We come in and eat them, then the day we leave town we usually order like 8 ham and cheese subs with extra mayo to take home with us to the other side of the state. Whatever you changed... the sub buns obviously... GO BACK TO THE ORIGINAL. The subs are flat and lifeless, theyre eitherbusing less ham or less cheese... the buns are trash, and when we order extra mayo and get hardly any... then it's REALLY a problem.

Yelp
6-7-2024 In Grand Rapids for an early birthday celebration... Along with some beer and wine we ordered the parmigiana platter and the sausage delux calzone. It was good and we enjoyed the quaint atmosphere and our kind server Samantha.

Yelp
We originally went to Salvatore's to try the pizza after a recommendation from a friend. We absolutely loved the pizza and declared it "among the better pizzas in Grand Rapids". Great crust and ingredients-especially the mozzarella cheese made Salvatore's a place we wanted to come back to. And we did. Next visit, we explored the pasta's. Spaghetti and meatballs, angel hair Pomodoro, and ravioli was enjoyed by our group. Chicken noodle soup and garlic bread were exceptional. Back soon for another pizza. Just as good as the first. I think we found a winner. Service all three visits was excellent and we especially like the spacious layout of the dining room where tables aren't jammed together. Theres a reason Salvatore's has been around since 1976. Attention to the basics with great service is timeless.

Yelp
Went in to have a drink and ordered a large deluxe pizza with extra cheese to take home. The drink selection there was a joke to say the least. Finally I am ordered a glass Lambrusco, and my friend ordered a double Captain Morgan and Coke. Total came to $46. I'm not sure how that's possible when the large deluxe pizza was 1899 to start and we only added extra cheese. When we got home, the pizza was disgusting. It had so much cheese on it. We could hardly eat it and it was dough because it wasn't cooked enough. I will not go back there. The food was terrible not impressed.

Yelp
The food was not great I ordered this lasagna and there was literally no flavor whatsoever for this to be Italian lasagna there was literally no flavor no seasoning I felt like I got that out of a TV dinner at the frozen section of the grocery store and for the price I paid for it that was ridiculous the salad was from phenomenal but I guess there's not a lot of ways to mess that up it doesn't require seasoning for much flavor I wonder if they make their salad dressing from scratch for if that was bought out of a bottle I'm so disappointed I guess I'll have to keep going to fratelli's there lasagna was phenomenal I was hoping that Salvatore's would have better food so that I can make them my number one go to spot since they're so close to my house but unfortunately not having any flavor on there lasagna whatsoever leads me to believe the rest of their food is going to be flavorless as well so unfortunately I'm going to have to stay away and not spend any of my hard-earned money on flavorless food with no debth

Yelp
You want some Italian ma and pop shop vibes in GR? Look no further. If I'm looking for a little treat, at a great price, I get myself a family size takeout of one of their pastas and I'm always happy. Yes I have had better pasta, but all and all, it is a 5 star meal when considering the value and the people.

Yelp
Great old time family Italian restaurant in a neighborhood not far from downtown. I had the Veal Parmigiana, which was excellent. Great sauce and cheese with nice thin medallions of veal. It came with a house salad, garlic bread, and a side of spaghetti. Prices are great for food and wine. Special shout-out for the service. The young ladies were super friendly and always asked if I needed anything whenever they passed by. Just a great neighborhood restaurant and bar. There's a reason it's been around since the 70s!

Yelp
We had a party of 12, 8 adults and 3 kids, and the restaurant was not busy but maybe there was a party? One server for our table and she was struggling between drinks, appetizers and the meals. It was usual Italian fare, large portions (for even the the half orders), salads and bread. A variety of entrees ordered and all good. Three children's entrees (from the Children's Menu) 2 small pizzas and a Macaroni and Cheese. I tasted none of them but the Mac & Cheese was identical to Kraft box type and all 3 entrees were served with a waitress warning of "the plate is very hot" as she set the entrees in front of the children- odd that any kitchen would serve children's entrees on such hot plates. All in all an OK experience.

Yelp
Four of us dined in their outside courtyard a few nights ago. The courtyard is charming and protected from traffic noise. Our server Adriana (?) was delightful! We all ordered and entree which is accompanied by a salad and garlic bread. The house salad has greatly improved from the last time we ate there. It's much more colorful with dark greens multi colored carrots tomato cucumber and croutons. All of our entrees were delicious. We had the eggplant Parmesan, ravioli combo, seafood ravioli and linguine carbonara. We call took to go boxes home!

Yelp
We rented the back room of Salvatore's Italian Restaurant and Pizzeria for an evening entertainment of a dramatic reading of Charles Dicken's "A Christmas Carol". It went without a hitch thanks to the expert care of Alison our waitress and the hard work in the back of the house. Our food and drinks were spot on and timely. Everyone attending loved the food and cozy atmosphere. I highly recommend renting this space for your next party. The food and service were everything we hoped for and more.

Yelp
Stopped here last minute with my cousin and his family. Party of 6 at 6:30 pm on a Saturday night. It was hopping. Was told it's be 30-45 minute wait but ended up being 10 minutes! Under promise over deliver! Thats winning in my book. Cozy atmosphere. Felt like a big family. Our server was very friendly and efficient! Food. Delicious salads. Was told the chicken noodle soup wasn't top notch but we arguably have high expectations on our soups. I had the carbonara and it was delicious! Huge portions. Ordered full sized, ate dinner and had at least two portions leftover. Overall, great bang for your buck, friendly and family like. I would go back to try the patio in the summer.

Yelp
Delicious!!! We were looking for authentic Italian desserts for an event, and ordered the tiramisu, mixed cream puff tray and cannoli. They were all amazing. Highly recommend!!!

Dorothy M.

Yelp
Great place, great food. It's been in the neighborhood for a very long time. I'm very glad to see it continue.

Mark O.

Yelp
The food at my recent visit to Salvatore's was very disappointing. Compared to past visits the spinach artichoke dip was soupy with hardy any spinach and artichoke. The bread was burned. The marinara sauce was very week and tasted like it came directly from a can. I'm wondering if the management changed recently. The Cannoli came without sauce for the first time. The service was OK. The drinks were poor. This was the first time of many times dining with friends and family here that all the food and drinks were so disappointing. Chef Special was the spaghetti today. But it did not have a homemade flavor but tasted like canned spaghetti sauce.

Yelp
Salvatore's did a great job when asked for a quick catering lunch at our work. They listened to our requests and suggested a perfect 1/2 pan of a chicken option for 14 people. All ate well and the food was amazing! Above and beyond! The owners are very responsive to calls and requests. Delivery was inexpensive and right on time.

Yelp
Delicious food and great service. The dining area is spacious and the staff is very considerate of diners' personal space. I celebrated my birthday here and it was very enjoyable. All of my friends loved the food snd felt welcome. Highly recommend the olive appetizer, chicken noodle soup and any pizza. If you are looking for a wholesome family dining experience, this is the place.

Yelp
We love Salvatore's! They used to be one of our weekly go to's for until we moved from the west side to the east side of GR. We usually get their chicken Parmesana (big enough for 2 to split!). I also like their Linguine Carbonara. Prices have gone up, but so has everywhere else and we love supporting family businesses.

Yelp
Went on a Friday night at 815. Got a spot on their beautiful patio with umbrellas, plenty of greenery and cute lighting. It was one of the cutest patios I've been on in GR. Our server could not have been sweeter or more energetic and did not miss a single beat. We ordered the chicken noodle soup (so good, you could tell the noodles were homemade) and a tossed salad with ranch to start (ranch was good but not great). Our server told us that back in the day, they would do street fairs in this part of Grand Rapids and that is how their pizza got so popular. We asked the server what else was popular, she mentioned the chicken Parm. When we got our entrées, we were super excited! They comically looked almost identical, as it was a big plate with red sauce and a ton of cheese. The chicken itself was a tad chewy and the lasagna I got was bland. Unfortunately, we didn't love them. I got my garlic bread with cheese on it, and I definitely didn't need the extra cheese! They were very generous with the cheese. We ordered a cannoli to go which we loved. The cocktails were strong and our server was great. This is definitely a family owned and ran place. portion sizes were very big, we took both leftovers home and ate them for lunch. I would come back for a cocktail and appetizer on the patio

April B.

Yelp
I just moved into the area and the pizza mediocre at best. And for a place that boasts about using all fresh ingredients they sure threw a lot of canned mushrooms on my pizza I was very surprised about that maybe in the future they could just get some fresh mushrooms and they wouldn't be bad
google avatar

Danielle L.

Yelp
Amazing food and catering service!!! Desserts were on par! Salad and garlic bread were also amazing! Manicotti was a huge party hit!
google avatar

John Z.

Yelp
Very good service. We came in with a large group and we were met with nothing but smiles and eagerness to help. I had the chicken parmigiana and I was more than satisfied with the taste and portion. If you are in Grand Rapids, Salvatore's is a must.
google avatar

Yelp
This is our go to pizza place. It's honestly the best pizza we've found in Grand Rapids. We've never actually eaten in, just take out, so can't speak to that experience. If you want good pizza, this is your place!

Cindy Z.

Yelp
Wish this establishment would keep their website up to date. Went there today with friends only to find they were closed even though website and Yelp said that they were open. We weren't the only ones as others cars drove up too.
google avatar

Wendy M.

Yelp
Old school Italian food - no frills, just good eats. Stop here and eat, you won't be sorry and you'll have leftovers to take home and enjoy later!
google avatar

Pam G.

Yelp
Tried the take out menu today for this restaurant. I had ravioli and hubs had lasagna. The ravioli didn't look like I am use to seeing. It was 2 long manicotti noodles stuffed with me and toped with lots of cheese. It was good just not what I was expecting. My hubs had the lasagna and thought it was good but maybe missing something. He did like and ate it all so must of passed his test. ItLooks as though they do a lot of takeout as the restaurant was pretty dead inside. It wasn't anything to write home about but I would go back and try the pizza maybe I just missed and had the wrong entrée.

Tina M.

Yelp
This is my family's Go To for Italian food and has been since probably sometime in the '70's. I grew up right around the corner and while I live an hour North I will always come back to my old neighborhood to eat at my favorite Italian restaurant. The food is great, recent visits have treated us good, (not knowing who we are) and the portion is amazing, always got take home leftovers and the prices are very reasonable. I'll have a cannoli to take home thank you!
google avatar

Cindy V.

Yelp
Thank you for making us feel like crap for having extra guest show up for my widows friend birthday. Was I supposed to tell them not to show up? 3 booths were used above our 10 top reservation, you acted as if it was the end of the world. We were all patient and pleasant and told the server we understand you are only 1 person. You even had the owner come out and give us crap. It was so uncomfortable. You didn't have a wait you had open tables one that you would not let us use and it sat empty. Every one loved the food just too bad we were treated as an annoyance.

J J.

Yelp
Google showed they were open until 9pm on Monday evening. We walked in at 7:40. Apparently they closed at 8pm. The owner told the waitress to seat us. She was visibly upset. She came to our table with the menus and THREW them on the table. The owner apologized and said that Google was wrong and he didn't know how to fix it. Fair enough. There's no way we could've known that and it doesn't excuse the waitresses behavior. I'll take my money elsewhere. Too many other places to eat in GR now. No desire to go back and don't need to recommend to any one else I know.

Yelp
And Italian family owned restaurant for two generations, Salvatores has some of the best pizza I've ever tasted! I took my mother-in-law who is Italian; she loved it. A family atmosphere,, come as you are for some truely enjoyable Italian recipes! The buffet looks good for lunch to! And they support ArtPrize! That's my art work, entitled Candy Cosmos.

Bradley B.

Yelp
Very good spot for pizza and pasta. Been around forever! Service was great, place was clean, and food was awesome!
google avatar

Brooke R.

Yelp
Unfortunately Salvatore's doesn't offer gluten free pasta, but their gluten free pizza is good. To be honest, the best meal I've had there is actually their steak Nicoletta. I was a little wary as to how it would turn out as a takeout option, but it was piping hot and absolutely delicious. My family loves their seafood pasta!
google avatar

Daniel R.

Yelp
Outstanding food! My daughter and I decided to try something new in the area and we settled on this restaurant. I have not had a meal this good in ages. I have the lasagna and my daughter had the Carbonero and then we split a tiramisu for dessert. It was absolutely wonderful. The service was great to. I highly recommend this restaurant. And as a sidenote I like this part of Grand Rapids ... rather than being out in the suburbs going to the corporate restaurants.

Roscoe B.

Yelp
This place is usually really good but I ordered the carbonara over the weekend and the cuts of bacon in it were just terrible, mainly fat pieces that were too chewy to enjoy, although the sauce & noodles were good the chewy & fatty pieces of bacon made it hard to enjoy the whole meal. I would order it again but specify that i want the bacon crispy (as it should be) in a carbonara

Yelp
Our family is on a search to discover our favorite NW pizza delivery. It was time to give Salvatores a try. We ordered a 14'' sausage, mushroom & artichoke heart, a small cheese and bread sticks (asked for cheese bread sticks and were told they only offered bread sticks but that they had some parmesan cheese on them) Our ordered arrived 1 hour and 15 minutes after ordering, longer than the 40-50 minute wait projected but it was still hot. The driver was polite. The good: The pizza cheese was a good combination of stringy gooiness and plentiful toppings. Sausage has a nice spice to it. The meh: Canned mushrooms seem like a cop-out considering this is coming from a larger Italian restaurant. Fresh would have been much nicer. I understand that when a place is busy sometimes things get done a little sloppily but they way our pizza was cut makes me wonder if someone had been hitting the Lambrusco. It was sliced into either HUGE wedges or tiny slits. WE had to get out the cutter and re-slice it into manageable pieces, just weird. The disappointing: The sauce, again for being an actual Italian restaurant I thought it would be much more flavorful. It was pretty bland and just tomatoey no real distinguishable flavor aside from that. Likewise their bread sticks were a let down very dense and not many to an order. Overall we felt rather indifferent, the pizza was just OK, and the sticks while not the worst we've had were definitely not anything we'd ever get again.
google avatar

Whitney B.

Yelp
The service was great, but the food was very sub-par. Pasta was over cooked, and the chicken was oddly spongey, as if it were frozen and microwaved. I'm still glad I tried this place though. I might go back and try something else on the menu.
google avatar

Carolyn P.

Yelp
Best pizza in Grand Rapids...the deluxe pizza is amazing and weighs a ton...they do not skimp on the toppings!

Michael R.

Yelp
Great food and great service! They handle large groups perfectly! Put this place on your list!

Makayela S.

Yelp
worst experience. my boyfriend and i wanted to try this place for the first time. they mess up our pizza then tell us it's another 25 minutes to wait for a new one and they don't even give us the ranch we paid for.
google avatar

Sarah M.

Yelp
Old westside go to for comforting Italian. Huge portions and low prices make Salvatore's really stand out and the patio in the summer is a nice treat.

Mike D.

Yelp
I don't know why this place isn't busier. If you like Italian food this is the place to go in Grand Rapids. Authentic homemade dishes. And the limoncello is worth it all on its own.
google avatar

Jim P.

Yelp
The deluxe sausage sub was the worst i ever had . I am 100 percent Italian and can tell you they should be embarrassed selling this . I dont think there was 6 chunks of meet in the sub all bread filled with sauce and melted cheese .
google avatar

G W.

Yelp
We enjoyed dinner tonight. The steamed muscles in wine/butter was great. The calamari was good too. For our main course we had a sausage/cheese Stromboli. A few years ago we had a wonderful dinner in the back for a large group - and the Stromboli was fantastic. Fresh sausage, and plenty of ricotta. This last visit they left out the ricotta. When we inquired why - they just said the restraint no longer has ricotta. What? That's like saying the Italian Restaurant no longer serves wine. Fix this and Salvatore's gets 4 stars! GW - Chicago

Scott M.

Yelp
Great food, great prices. Excellent staff. The homemade chicken noodle soup is amazing
google avatar

Timothy M.

Yelp
I have been ordering the pizza lately. Very good. Some of the West Wise's best. Old school pizzeria style, amazing cheese and tasty sauce. Note that this review is for take out only as we have never been inside the restaurant proper.

Buck A.

Yelp
What a wonderful place!! Great staff and even better food!! Nice and friendly staff! One of the best pizzas in the USA!!

John S.

Yelp
Not very good food should've known better when I was only the third car in the parking lot went into the restaurant flies all over the windows they wouldn't even land on the food was the worst meal ever will not eat at this establishment again. Server was very courteous and a very hard worker.
google avatar

Rhonda D.

Yelp
I know a lot of people like this place, but for me the sauces are too sweet. I got the Fettuccine Alfredo and it tasted like sugar had been added. It is one of my fav Italian dishes so I've had quite a few (to say the least) and this one ranks at the bottom of any Alfredo I have had. Husband got the pizza, it was okay. I also tried it but the sauces are too sweet for me. If you are not a fan of sweet tomato sauces, do not go here. BUT, if you like sweeter tomato sauces...the IS the place for you. Atmosphere was good. Very laid back, service was great...just not into sweet sauces.

Jim M.

Yelp
Great food, huge portions, everything fresh. Service outstanding! Nice wine selection.
