Yelp
I can't believe how many times I've driven by Samo's without entering; even more incredulously, how I've been completely oblivious to how awesome it is! My wife and I were looking for a place to have breakfast on Black Friday, and after checking out one place and finding it to be...unremarkable, we declined to order, got up and left, and drove in a direction that had us passing by Samo's. This time, armed with Yelp giving us suggestions, we headed in together, unsure of what to expect.
What you *can* expect is something truly special.
On the surface, Samo's is a strange amalgam of convenience store, deli, bakery and ice cream parlor. All transactions are handled at the checkout counter, from placing grill orders, purchasing snacks, drinks or entrées from the cold case, buying lotto tickets, beer and wine...you get the idea. This place is popular, too. In addition to the steady stream of customers who came in to purchase something, many others arrived merely to pick up grill/deli orders placed online or over the phone.
How's the food? Fantastic! They've got a little of everything, from American to Mediterranean, with all the deli classics. I grabbed a Kofta Kabob, my wife ordered the special Tuna Melt, and we split a delicious, crispy baklava. A couple drinks from the cold case rounded out our order, and we dined in at one of the cute tables by the window. The cashier, who also delivered our food, was polite, amiable and fun to talk to.
It might seem a little weird dining in what amounts to a "fancy convenience store" at first, but give Samo's a chance, and you're going to fall for its charms in a hurry. It's hard to beat food this good, in a casual, friendly atmosphere, whether you dine in, or grab and go.
Something tells me I won't be just driving by anymore.
