Discover Hong Kong’s MICHELIN-Recommended Restaurants by MTR: Island Line, Western Section

"The kuai tiao ruea (Thai boat noodles) here make some of the strongest waves among the Southeast Asian joints frequented by nine-to-fivers." - Gloria Chung

Samsen (Sheung Wan)

"Readers may recognize the name it shares with a noodle shop in Wan Chai – yes, this is a spinoff by the same owner-chef, Adam Cliff. While it shares almost the same menu as the Wan Chai branch, certain exclusive dishes stand out. For instance, its signature 11-spice Northern Thai curry takes up to eight hours to make and is the perfect companion to egg noodles. Desserts like young coconut ice cream or mango and sticky rice are also pluses." - Michelin Inspector

Always hits the spot! Incredible smokey flavours, the perfect chewy texture of the flat noodles and the choices of side chilies are incredible. It always reminds me how I really love Thai cuisine. You need to plan and go early even before you are hungry as the line takes a while. I normally just rock up but I think you can make a reservation for dinner. My to go are normally Wagyu Flat Noodles, Crabmeat fried rice, omelette, Thai Basil beef and the lime soda. Sitting are pretty tight between tables but the food is worth the squeeze.

Loved the Thai food here. One of the best Thai restaurants in hk, within the top 5 for sure. It gets really packed all the time pretty much every day and so highly recommend a reservation. Open kitchen shows how they maintain very good hygiene standards and the indoor seating area is really good because there is ac but they also keep the entrance doors fully open and so it doesn’t full “stuffy” inside and there is good ventilation. I had the pad Thai with prawns for 158. Yes you might argue that you can get this for a fraction of the price in Bangkok but we are in hk here and so need to pay hk prices and by hk prices, a delicious main for 158 is something I’ll pay for Second visit: Came here for dinner for two and arrived at around 6pm and so didn’t have to wait for a table Got to try out more of their dishes on my second visit (refer to my receipt) and they were all really good.

First visit, it was 2 of us. Visited on Friday at 7:30PM, seated by 8:10, concluded the dinner at 9:25PM. Wait time was roughly 30 mins & we were provided the beverage menu to order drinks while waiting to be seated. Authentic hospitality from the team as we could see the restaurant was fully occupied inside. Food was above average & portions were decent for the price, we ordered 2 appetizers & 2 mains to share followed by a dessert. Additional 2 drinks per person, bill was slightly over HKD $1200. All the food was served simultaneously which was understandable seeing it was full house, that's why no coursing was done. Atmosphere is rated 4 Star as it was a bit loud overall & tables were very close to one another. Service was spot on as we were looked after by Manjot, she had a genuine caring nature & constantly checked back on our experience. Great work to Samsen Team, next will time will try your lunch menu.

French fusion Thai food is delicious, the taste is very nice. I have been here many times. Fried rice is the best. Also Fa is very nice and friendly.

Tried Samsen and really enjoyed the food! The highlight for me was the pandan ice cream — super fragrant and absolutely delicious. Prices are on the higher side, but that’s pretty normal for Hong Kong. Overall, good Thai food with a standout dessert!

Samsen always consistent. Such great Thai food, great choices that feels homely and nostalgic. All dishes were spot on. Pad Thai was delicious, would probably want more peanuts on the side. Phat kaphrao fantastic and spicy. The dessert were also quite big and tasty. Service was quick and we didn’t wait too long despite we were a group of 8. Something like 30-40 minutes. The place is big inside.

Visited Samsen, the famous Thai fusion restaurant, for a Friday dinner after a long time away and brought some friends trying it for their first time. Arrived at 6:50 PM and saw a line already. We were told the wait time would be around 30 minutes with only 10 groups ahead of us. However, after checking with the staff multiple times, we were told to "wait a bit more" three times and ended up waiting 70 minutes. It was frustrating, especially since we noticed some groups who arrived later were already eating when we finally got in—made us wonder how the queue system really works, or if there’s any funny business happening. The reception staff didn’t help the experience either. When the next table was already ready for us, she still didn’t want to let us stand close to the entrance to wait—felt a bit unnecessary, especially since we’re paying customers. That said, the food was as good and quick as usual, and the overall service inside was okay. But the unreliable wait time and poor reception service left a bad impression this time.
