Raise a Glass to International Chardonnay Day at These Bay Area Restaurants and Bars | Eater

"After more than 20 years, San Jose’s food hall has seen countless local chefs, mixologists, and baristas — enough talent to have a new combination of flavors with each visit. Seafood is a must here, but there are great Korean dishes, Peruvian entrees, and even sports bar-style sandwiches amidst the vendors. Come for the variety of food and the Harken Chardonnay but make sure to stay for the live music in the evenings." - Vox Creative

Best Things to Eat and Drink at Downtown San Jose’s San Pedro Square Market - Eater SF

"San Jose’s first food hall, a staple of downtown celebrating its twentieth anniversary this September, has gained recognition as a thriving community hub with over a dozen food and beverage vendors. Step inside, and you’ll find a fashionably industrial interior with transparent warehouse-style doors, modern light fixtures, and weathered brick. On the back patio, bands perform live music six nights a week." - Johanna Harlow

Google
San Pedro Square Market has a few food vendors including the bar. It was many people when I got there and is hot here as well. It sits right next to its parking garage where patrons can come by here to eat. It’s a very nice area where you can dine and hangout. They even have a stage where performers can sing in front of the audience. It seems that many people come to Downtown SJ for this location, because while I was walking around, there’s not that many people until I came to this market. They even have a water dispenser so that you don’t have to ask for water from any food vendor.

Google
It’s a good concept with many choices but the food is mediocre at best! But good beer selection for sure! The fish and chips are okay. The calamari is terrible, chicken burgers also bad, but hamburger is better! They even have a band playing on the Wednesday night, that’s impressive but makes regular conversation almost impossible. Lots seating between indoor and outdoor area. There are gas heaters available at the outside area that you can turn it on at you discretion! One other good thing is they have vary clean restrooms!

Google
Great place to enjoy company with friends and family! Private party in the corner was amazing! The food they provided on the buffet was delicious!!

Google
Checked out San Pedro Square for the first time—definitely got that Hispanic vibe going on! Tons of energy, a bunch of restaurants, parties happening, and people just chillin’ outside with some seriously cool rides parked up.

Google
A wonderful space for hanging out, socializing, eating, or grabbing a drink right in downtown San Jose. It felt, calm, pleasant, and lively. I also loved feeling the connection to history. We need more places like this in downtown!

Google
Visited San Pedro square market on May 5th so got to witness the Cinco de Mayo festivities, live music and such vibrant atmosphere even though it was Monday evening. Lot of food options including Mexican, Indo-Nepalese and others bars for a good time. This square has a lot of history. Got to know that San Jose was the oldest city of CA from an info placard. Reminded me of The Alamo in San Antonio.

Google
Great place to wind down after a busy day! Delicious, authentic food, great cocktails, and live music!

Google
The market is nice in its existence and it had some live music too, but unfortunately I could not find any appealing food options there

Yelp
This is a very appealing place to come walk around and get good eats. They offer a lot of various cuisines and they have a lot of outdoor and indoor seating. Parking garage is very close by and you can get the market fairly quickly. At night outdoor seating is very relaxing and well lit. They have police and security around as well for safety. I tried a couple of dishes from different places inside and I will definitely be back to try others . Nice place to relax and eat!

Yelp
I love San Pedro Square Market! There is something here for literally everyone. There is seafood, Vietnamese food, beer, pizza, desserts...you name it they probably have it. Great place for a casual hang out with some friends.

Yelp
The prices are pretty high for fast-casual so my expectations were high. We went at 830pm and quite a few of the food options we're closing. A couple of the kitchens appeared quite dirty (vietnamese and mexican place, talkin to you) and overall theres a bit of a lower end food vibe here than I expected. That said, some definitely stood out with a nicer appearance than others. The eating area itself was nicer one of the two buildings and they had live music in that one as well. I tried the Mexican place and was thoroughly underwhelmed with my chicken bowl. Definitely no love or passion behind the cuisine here. It was about Chipotle quality at best, but for $20 with tax/tip. My girlfriend tried the burger place out and well, it was a pretty standard burger. Nothing to write home about. My other friend tried the pasta place out and he seemed to like his food the best. So shout out to the pasta place. Overall, a decent but not incredible foodhall that does indeed at least have fun, social vibes!

Yelp
They have a lot to offer tlat this huge food hall Market. From burgers and pizzas, to desserts and a full bar with live music. The have plenty of seats inside and in the outside patio area. The service is quick as well as accommodating. A wonderful hang out spot for the whole family.

Yelp
My husband and I drove to San Jose last night to see Billie Eilish at the SAP Center and decided to check out San Pedro Square Market for dinner. I have only been here 1 other time and it was many moons ago. We walked around and checked out the different food places - they offer seafood, Philly Cheesesteaks, burgers, pizza, Mexican, Peruvian, Nepalese, Korean, pasta and even gelato! We also checked out the Market Beer Co., where my husband got a bottled Pliny The Elder. We decided on PHONOMENAL for some dinner and it was pretty good. The pricing was fair - I think I paid around $26 not including tip for 2 food items and a drink. The service was a bit odd though, as they only have kiosks that you order at so you really don't interact with the people at PHONOMENAL until your food is ready for pick-up. They have a giant menu that even blocks the kitchen so can't see what they're doing behind the counter. I love that they have tons of seating throughout 2 different buildings as well a lot of outdoor seating. It's like one giant food hall and I can see how this place can be very packed on the weekends! I hope we check it out again next time we're in the area!

Yelp
Came here with colleagues after a very long day working and there was live music playing and vibrant outdoor patio with a ton of dogs. For me, animals all over the place and loud music wasn't really my vibe after a long day at work, but it would be a nice spot to chill otherwise. There was like an indoor cafeteria part with several eateries -- I tried the Philly cheesesteak place and was kind of disappointed in the quality of the food. All in all it was fine and there was a parking structure that made it easy to access.

Yelp
This place is soo neat! It's filled with multiple shops, they have tons of food to choose from, live music, drinking but still a family friendly place. You can study there and still take the family. They show games on the outdoor tvs too. Very very lively place. Go with a group for more fun but nice for a solo work time too.
google avatar

Brian B.

Yelp
Outside dining and pints. Great for groups. This place has a panoply of restaurants you can order from and then take outside to the common dining courtyard area. Sometimes there is live music outside as well. Lotsa choices for sweet desserts . Oh, a cool coffee shoos here as well.

Yelp
I had a great experience at San Pedro on a date night over the weekend. Tried three eateries. The coconut shrimp at On A Roll was freshly made, crispy on the shell with tender meats inside, making each bite divine. Their Thai boba milk tea was amazingly yummy, well balanced between milk and tea with soft chewy tapioca balls, considerately not loaded with too much ice when you can enjoy the real deal. The Dosa at the Indian place on the other side of "on a roll" right at the entrance, was very good as well, freshly made, served with various condiments. The Fish and Chips with a cup of chowder, was good except the slightly soggy fries. Reasonable price. Courteous and polite service. Lively and cozy vibe. Nice staff, patron and security. Thanks for an awesome time.

Yelp
Great place, so many variety of foods to choose from and a cool live band. We will be back again.

Yelp
Let's see :) I have to write 85 characters for it to be a review, so I am. 2.5 stars. Curious how anyone else feels after several times coming here -- I've visited far more than I've checked in. Top reviews here are 10-12 years old. I will say some establishments here are worth checking out. Without changes to kindness to customers, I'd pass.

Yelp
This was my first time at San Pedro Square and I got the shrimp tacos from LOTERIA TACO BAR. They were pretty good, I could see myself getting them again although there was A LOT of pico. The order was made fairly quick so definitely a plus.

Yelp
Gayle and I hung out here a few Sundays ago with her Son and his wife. The weather was nice and there was plenty of room within the outdoor central plaza. Food court businesses could be found indoors on both sides of the plaza, of which Gayle and I chose a Nepal place for food and an expansive beer bar nearby. Prices were completive and there was certainly a lot to choose from. Individual businesses were happy to serve and the folks working the grounds did a great job keeping things in order and clearing away trash. There was no music playing within the San Pedro Square Market during our stay, but we heard some anyway from an adjacent bar. An interesting bonus was the historic adobe located within the front of the Market. That certainly a unique approach to the historic conservation vs. urban development dynamic.

Yelp
This is a go-to spot for me when I am hanging out with friends. I love places where you can hangout, everyone can get what they want, even if they are craving different foods, and we can get drinks nearby, as well. We often stop here before Sharks games. This is super convenient with parking and being just a few blocks from the Shark Tank. As always, I love the outdoor seating options. My preference is to sit at the picnic benches. They are super sturdy and can seat up to 8 comfortably. On the occasions that they have a live band outside, I love it even more. It can be hard to find seating on the weekends since this place it located so well that it's often chosen as a hangout spot. Especially when games are playing. People herd around the televisions located in various spots around the patio and bar areas.

Yelp
Got the meat lasagna about 20 minutes at Pasta Fresca before closing after attending the first ever WWE Raw on Netflix show! This was the second time I have had it since I was there for jury duty last. It was absolutely delicious! The pasta was the freshest and the sauce was well made, with ground meat in every bite! I can't wait to go back and can't stop thinking about it! Just chill vibe's dining inside the market!
google avatar

Shriya S.

Yelp
I was really happy with the sheer variety of global cuisine options available in this market! This market is basically a food court featuring multiple food vendors, a bar, patio and live music! They particularly have many options for boba drinks if you're interested at Urban Ritual - we really liked how custom you can make them and there were multiple spots if you ran into long lines! If I visit again, I would definitely try Voyager coffee. I recommend!
google avatar

Lee D.

Yelp
I did NOT dock them for the challenging parking. Wait... It says on your website, you have a garage? Quality/Quantity - What a cool place to hang out, especially when they have live bands, etc. There are also TV screens, both indoor and outdoor. Approximately 22 businesses are currently here, see my pictures. Atmosphere - 3 separate buildings plus a shared outdoor space. Open 7 days a week from 10am or 11am to 10pm or midnight. I watched you grow into what you are today, both indoor and outdoor spaces with so many different business options. They also have a relationship with the people at History San Jose (HSJ). Historic Tours available for $$, see website. Events, private events available, etc. Service - Good. Price - Depends on what you buy, eat, or drink. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 1972. I remembered that you were a GREAT/popular college hang out back in my younger days; no I did not attend college out here.

Yelp
I'm excited to try the food at San Pedro Square Market in San Jose, CA, which offers a wide variety of options. I recently had a spring roll with fresh vegetables and shrimp that left me eager for more. My priority is seafood, and I was thrilled by the shellfish combo I tried, which included mussels and clams in a delicious soup. The seafood flavor, combined with herbs and garlic bread, was fantastic! It's a great spot for delicious, affordable food in a pleasant setting with good music and a fun atmosphere.

Yelp
It was my first time, wow. So many cool places to eat!had a hard time to decide! Have to come back to try each restaurant

Yelp
Nice little food shops in here. I do stop in here from time to time to get some food. They also have a seating area outside that sometimes will have live music. Will go here again soon!

Yelp
This place is so much fun and great vibes! 31Aug2024: They have so much options on food, snacks, boba, gelato, bar and coffee. Outside, so many spots to hang out and enjoy the music. Did I mention they have a parking lot, parking free for the first 90 minutes-yay!
google avatar

Kris G.

Yelp
You get what you think here. Not amazing but also exactly what's needed for there. Lots of options food wise. Service and food quality depends on where you go. Nice party environment atmosphere most of the time depending on where you go. Not many places locally like this and so glad we do have it.
google avatar

Yelp
Great place to hang out with friends on a Friday night. The atmosphere here is always so lively and chill. The place itself is very large and spacious. Plenty of seating area. They have a lot of good food offerings. My friends and I always have a great time here and make lots of memories. The staff here are friendly.

Yelp
Looking for a quick and casual bite with a great ambience before heading to SAP Center? Our fellow Yelpers got it right with this nearby recommendation. A quaint little food court, slightly more upscale in seating yet with a hole-in-a-wall vendor selection, San Pedro Square Market offers some pretty good food options. There is probably no more than 6 or 7 food stalls, yet you can find something for everyone but still requires a little going out on a limb as these food stalls are quite unpretentious. Prices are higher than I would have expected given the not-so-fancy appearances. We were quite satisfied with our food choices from the Phenomenal Asian Fusion (really it just serves up some traditional and Americanized Chinese and other Asian menu selections) and Korean place. We ordered the appetizer combination plate that comes with a host of items - all surprisingly decent. We also got the Chicken Katsu plate that rivals all other Japanese and Hawaiian restaurants we've been to! Also the Seafood Bird's Nest was decent, but definitely not the real deal. At the Korean place, the bbq short ribs were reportedly sooo good. Other options we didnt try include a Peruvian place. Perhaps another time. Other pluses include the nice dining area that is constantly being cleaned up by staff. Restrooms are very clean too! There's convenient parking in the garage just across the street. A solid 4 stars!
google avatar

Yelp
San Pedro Square Market provides a variety of casual and fast food dining choices for a team lunch or before a Sharks game. The courtyard and the adjacent indoor seating have some TVs suitable to catching up on sports while you hang out with friends.
google avatar

Carrie T.

Yelp
Super fun location that my roommate and I stumbled upon accidentally! There's free parking for the first 90min nearby and plenty of outdoor tables where people are willing to talk to new strangers and dance and have fun! Indoor food courts with wide range of super tasty looking options.
google avatar

Anna R.

Yelp
There a re various food options to choose from between the two buildings. Seafood Tacos Burgers Crepes Pizza Vietnamese Peruvian Korean Mexican Nepalese Dessert - Mochi donuts Gelato Asian Tea Drinks Coffee Bar It's great for a casual night out. Perfect for groups because there's something for everyone if you all don't want to eat the same thing. There's plenty of seating inside and out on the patio. Parking is free for 90 mins the garage across the street unless you can find street parking.
google avatar

Yelp
Love coming here for a chill night. San Pedro square has a variety of food vendors and alcohol options. I know that some nights they even have live music playing if you want to sit down and enjoy your food. Plenty of outdoor seating and indoor options, it does get pretty crowded Friday and Saturday nights. Overall, this is a good place for outings with friends.
google avatar

Deana M.

Yelp
We decided to stop here for lunch before attending the Sesame Street live event at the civic center. What a great variety of food options! The weather was beautiful for a Sunday afternoon and a band was playing some awesome music. We sat outside and enjoyed the band and our lunch. My grandson was fascinated with the huge airplanes flying into the nearby airport. I definitely would return and try more food!!

Anderson P.

Yelp
We love San Pedro. Wish they would get some additional vendors and other rotating options but do like the venue especially during the warmer months when you can sit outside and enjoy the live music.
google avatar

Phil A.

Yelp
Seems like this is the place to be in Downtown San Jose!! Yes, it's a food court, and their are lots of choices here, but there are also bars along with live music depending on when you come. The live music is outside on a patio, and on a nice sunny day it can really fill up with people fast. As the evening kicks in, the bars kick up and get going!! Parking is easy enough, with a parking garage right next to this Market. It's also within walking distance of the SAP Center!! Lots to like about San Pedro Square Market, definitely gots to get here more often!!
google avatar

Yelp
Great Tourist Attraction. Lovely Outdoors Dinings, plenty of places to eat and absolutely Beautiful and lively with the great live music to my ears! Those Mochi Doughnuts, Delicious Dumplings, Japanese Rolls, Vietnamese Flavors, Korean, Tacos are among the popular Items here in this Strips!!!! During day I absolutely love the peaceful vibrant and Friendly Relaxing Atmospheres!!! Perfect Summer Days!! Truly happy that this San Pedro Square is literally seven minutes away from my home!!! The more reasons for me to come back here soon!!!!!July2023

Yelp
Absolutely love this place, it is such a great place to meet up with friends or for a date night. There are so many cool food spots to try and a lot of good bars as well. It's perfect for a big group of people who are craving different types of food, desserts, and drinks. They have so much variety here: Italian, American, Peruvian, Mexican, different asian cuisines, Indian food...etc. The prices are very reasonable, especially for the overall vibe of the place. They also tend to have live music and bands playing as well.
google avatar

Kenzie T.

Yelp
This place is the perfect option to go to with a group for a variety of options. It has a nice open vibe to it with indoor and outdoor seating. Huge variety of food and beverage options and in a great location in downtown SJ
google avatar

Frances C.

Yelp
Very fun place to lounge around on a nice weather with plenty of food vendors and outdoor and indoor seatings with a band playing outside and many large screen TVs inside and outside. The only pain was getting food at different vendors as there are various tastes for everyone. Parking garage right next door if you cannot locate any street parking. The food is ok as is like the street vendor foods, but very fun. Great game time hang out. Customers are cordial as each do put their trays and not leaving for the next person. They do have someone come around to clean the table.s. Doggie friendly atmosphere.
google avatar

Lauren Z.

Yelp
It's a neat experience in that there is a variety of food vendors under one roof. However, we tried 3 vendors and nobody was that impressed with the quality of food. The prices were high too. Hoped for better! Still worth trying out if you have multiple people who all want something different for lunch.
google avatar

Yelp
A great place to mingle and eat in downtown San Jose! I'm mainly writing this post to give the biggest shoutout to the security team patrolling! Jose and Damien gave above and beyond (high caliber) hospitality service answering all my touristy questions. They were extremely knowledgeable on recommendations! Both of the made sure to keep my friend and myself feel safe at night leaving the venue as well. Ty San Pedro for the 10/10 security team. Hope their managers see this and provide them recognition for their service :)
google avatar

Yelp
Nice place to hang out with friends. Outdoor seating is great. Lot of people on weekends
google avatar

Sophie C.

Yelp
My go-to spot for a casual but nice meal with friends. There is plenty of seating and a wide variety of food-- something for everyone. Most place give you a buzzer or text, so you can find a seat while your order is being prepared. They usually have live music in the courtyard, which creates a wonderful ambiance. The food court in general is very clean, pretty, and modern. It's a fun place to visit as a tourist, or when there is a big sports game going on. There are also cute stores and cafes nearby.

Yelp
Guards profiled us for vaping in a designated area then gave us a hard time. We abided by their rules and I went to the far sidewalk to vape while they still watched us. I don't like confrontation, even tho we respected their rules... but they still called the police to do several drive bys. Security is getting hyphy and aggressive. I want to leave but my party is upset with this service.

Yelp
I'm very conflicted on this rating, because I had a horrible experience with one vendor at San Pedro Square which made my entire experience there horrible. Me and 4 friends visited this location as part of a friend's birthday celebration. One of the ladies in our group purchased a drink for the birthday girl. Her license was expired, but they still allowed her to purchase. She returned to the bar a second time to get the birthday girl another drink and she was questioned about her ID, but still allowed to purchase. Apparently the bartender then notified a "lead" bartender which approached our table and demanded to see everyone's ID. We all gave her our ID and she stated that our friend's ID was expired. Our friend explained she's of age and she was allowed to purchase the drink and she's not even drinking. The "lead" bartender then stated we would need to leave and called security. We questioned if it was more to this as we were the only African Americans there. Her response was "You people always pull the race card"! Luckily the security was there and witnessed her behavior. He asked her to step away and told us we were free to stay. Things to consider: 1. NO ONE should have ever allowed my friend to purchase a drink if this is their policy. The lead should coach her staff. 2. Instead of approaching our table in a confrontational manner the lead should have simply shared the policy with us. 3. There should be ZERO tolerance for racism in this establishment!!! Its mind blowing that in such a liberal state as California and in the 21st century we're still facing acts of racism. It's truly sad!

Yelp
I've lived here in SJ for over a decade, and San Pedro Square Market never disappoints. If you're visiting SJ or in the area for a concert, game, or any event at SAP, then you must make a stop here for food and drinks. It has a little bit of everything here. Lots of restaurant options: Italian, Peruvian, Mexican, and lots of Asian food. I recommend Jora Peruvian, Urban Momo, and Anchors. Lots of drinks options, too. Plenty of seating inside and outside. Very nice vibes and perfect for a date night and hang out with friends or coworkers. There's a parking garage right across, and the first 90 mins are free. Great place to check out if you're in DTSJ. Come here and then explore the rest of the area!

Yelp
Awesome spot with diverse food options and live music! Had a fantastic evening with friends.

Yelp
We were here for the parent weekend for sjsu, and it was perfect! We tried an entree from multiple places and made our own five course meal. The real standout items included the margarita pizza from Boca Lupa, the buffalo wings from Game Day, the pastor taco from the Latoria, and the Nutella fantasy crepe. (That was to die for!) This isn't necessarily the place for a good wine selection, but if you are craving beer or cocktails, you will not be disappointed! I did have the vegetarian momos and naan from the Nepali place, but I'm wishing I'd gotten them fried. I also would have liked a slightly sweeter dipping sauce for those. They weren't bad, but didn't hold a candle to the other items. We also got a kids grilled cheese and waffle fries from Hella Good Burger, and it had slices of cheese fried on the outside of the bun! So delicious! The atmosphere was fabulous! We lucked out and got a table outside and the band was playing, which was fabulous. We got a little chilly, but it was worth it. We did have to take turns holding down the table outside, so this might be more difficult to do if there are just two of you, or a parent with kids. Overall, this was one of the highlights of the weekend! We were so excited to have been told about this place and it will be a regular place each time we come visit!

Yelp
Such a food trove! I get to have so many food choices. Yesterday I went to the Mexican spot and got a San Jose Burrito. It had curly fries and other picayune ingredients. Absolutely loved it. You get to dine with others at the community tables and they have huge TV screens with Sports always playing. What's not to love?!

Yelp
Came by on a Monday with a small group. I love the ambiance of two different buildings with a variety of food and drink options. the outdoor seating is perfect for everyone to come together and enjoy food, company, and music/sports games. Parking was simple with the garage across. This establishment is also pet-friendly, so bring your four-legged friends. For food, I got to try a burger place and it did not disappoint. The bar was easy to find and the bartenders were friendly. Can't wait to come back for more vibes and a good time.

Yelp
San Pedro Square Market provided a great atmosphere for hanging out. It was noticeably livelier than other places I've visited in California. Outdoor live music added to the ambiance, and I appreciated the seating separation to avoid getting too cold while still enjoying a good view. The extensive food options were a definite plus. The service was professional and food was prepared promptly. Overall, I would suggest this place to visitors.

Yelp
Cool spot in the neighborhood. The ambiance is great too. Enough seating, and great place to listen to live music. Food is good as well. Lots of diff, diverse options. I esp enjoyed the Nepali food. I've heard great things about it, and wanted to try it for myself. I had ordered the veggie Momo, and the Paneer dish. If you didn't know, Nepali food has a lot of Indian influences. You must try it at least once. A Momo is a dumpling, similar to a potsticker. Service was also good. The guy who helped me was on top of it. Very attentive. Check this place out, if you're ever in the area. It's a must try.
