Enjoyed this clean and bright restaurant. I was looking for Pho and found this spot. First, service is quick and kind. They immediately greeted us with a cup of tea without asking. I enjoyed the standard beef Pho. My husband had his with egg noodles. Nice presentation and quick. Very good broth but not exceptional.

I enjoyed this place! The staff were very friendly. I ate the vegan curry option, and my wife ate port chops. Come to China town and visit!

Came here at 10am on my lunch break right when they opened, very spacious inside with plenty of tables and seating. Was greeted and seated and then I placed my order of Hainanese chicken w/ noodle soup. My order came out in 3-4 minutes which is fast considering that they just opened, it came with a generous bowl of rice noodles with a heap of green onions topped with fried onions and a plate of Hananese whole chicken leg that had a sauce soy sugar and ginger from what I can tell as a dip. The noodles were fresh and the chicken was very tender, for $16 the portion very filling and the food was good quality. Also the staff was very friendly and always had a smile.

This was our first meal in China town San Francisco and it was delicious. We ordered two dishes and it was appetizing. The beef and egg were cooked perfectly, I love eggs less cooked when I eat this dish. The wonton soup also a must try ! Will be returning.

Good chinese food.. chicken rice is good especially with the garlic sauce.. the combination rice is also perfect.. the noodle and the wonton is perfect. Overall is one of the best chinese restaurant.. very recommended even though the parking could be a real problem in china town..

Want some super Pho, look bo further. Super fast service and packed for lunch!! Went with spicy beef pho. Extra noodles. Piping hot fresh tea. Nice folks, solid pho! Lots of locals, few tourists. The soup is AMAZING!!!

Their pan fried noodles are the best! There's just enough toppings and gravy to give you a nice savory bite with all the crispy noodles. Practically all the noodles stay crunchy. This is the first restaurant I've experienced who can manage to avoid the soggy noodle thing. From all the photos posted, it looks like I'm going to need to try their scrambled eggs dishes as well.

Food - ordered bun bo hue - portions are huge! lots of meat, noodles were chewy and overall flavor was good. I was afraid it'd be too spicy, so they made it mild and it was yummy! also ordered thai ice tea. if you're a fan of creamy thai tea, you will love it. my friend wish there was more tea taste, but i loved the creaminess 100% recommend thai tea Service - seated as soon as we walked in. Ordered and food came pretty quickly. I wanna say less than 10 mins. My friend's bun bo hue actually had a piece of hair in it, so we told them and they gladly and quickly cooked a new one for her. Ambiance - pretty laid back. Not the comfiest chairs but lots of seating and overall nice place to grab an afternoon lunch or dinner.

Came for lunch and a few things I like about the no frills San Sun: - Large portions from the Hainan chicken to the rice noodle soup - Free hot tea with the meal - Quick & fast service Their must gets are their noodle soups, pho with plenty of items to choose from. I ordered their Hainan chicken noodle soup. Noodles and the chicken were both bland unfortunately. Luckily, the chicken had a little ginger tip on the side for spice! I understand Hainan are usually done broiled with not much flavor so you can use various spices and dips with it. But the noodle soup too? The broth needs to have more flavor! The menu is gigantic! I got lost counting..I was up to page 13. There's a variety of Chinese dishes here and whatever you're craving, they will have it here. Wayyyy too many items and can be overwhelming.

I had a great time visiting this restaurant. The staff is very friendly. The bathroom is very clean. The interior is well designed.

Great food and great service. They have a wide variety of noodles you can choose for your dishes. While I was eating someone came in to buy jars of their satay sauce. One of the staff told me it's really popular and I should try some that's available at the table. It was good but a little too spicy for me. The pho ga was very flavorful. And a generous portion for the price. I was very full when I was done. Thai iced tea was also delicious.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in San Francisco Chinatown. San Sun is specialized in Southern Asian cuisine.

When they were still at the other location, where the Bart is, I would go there every weekend with my family. From what I remember, the food was delicious! Leek Dumpling: It's not as good as I remember it. It's too soft. If you try to get it with chopsticks it will crumble. Chiu Chow Combination Noodle: I usually get this at other restaurants, but first time trying it here. I got the ho fun rice noodle and thin egg noodles. The soup was very bland, no flavor at all. Lots of meat and right amount of noodles though. I should've stuck with my regular order, chicken ho fun. That one is flavorful with wok "air", with a lot of meat and veggies! I'll come back to try other dishes though.

I love this place, and have been coming to San Sun since their prior location on Stockton. The satay chow fun is my go-to dish, either with beef or chicken. The noodles come out piping hot and with plenty of wok hei (delicious char), and there's a comforting blanket of sauce and chinese broccoli. As a Viet-Chinese place, the noodle soups are also solid. There's one dish I've never seen elsewhere, and it's multiple types of noodles combined in one, and served with a prawn cracker. Lots of seating, and the wait staff is speedy.

Come for the authentic flavor and great value!! Located on a busy street in Chinatown, it was definitely a nice break from the bustling neighborhood around us! We were served authentic and yummy Chinese mapo tofu and chicken rice noodle soup. Would come again for great taste and value.

This is my go-to spot in chinatown since I was a kid. They serve teo chew food, which is my mom's people. My favorite things to order are the Fried Oysters with Egg as an appetizer (with a dipping sauce made of fish sauce and white pepper) and the Satay Ho Fun noodles (flat, wide rice noodles) with my meat of choice being pork kidney. You can't really get kidney in a lot of restaurants, but legit Teo Chew places have them. They're also a pain to prepare myself, so it's a treat to get so many without doing any work. If these items sound crazy and far out for you, don't worry, they also have beef, chicken, and shrimp options. There's plenty on the menu!

The Chinese cuisine was absolutely delightful. The salt and pepper-coated chicken wings were crispy and succulent, while the oyster beef was a perfect blend of flavors. Used to stop in here every once In awhile . I came in for a late lunch and ordered the bitter melon chicken and pork kidney soup. The pork kidney soup tasted kinda off like a bit of soup. I should've got this stir fried. The bitter Melon chicken was how I remembered it with black bean sauce . What I would compare it to is kinda like home cooked . Just the right amount of flavors and goes great with rice

** The following review reflects my takeout experience DURING the COVID-19 pandemic. ** Chinatown isn't feeling much like Chinatown these days, but that hasn't stopped me from venturing there to support the local businesses. After all, there ain't wrong with a hankering for Hainan chicken. I'm surprised Brandon Jew hasn't attempted a Cal-fresh version yet, as I'd be the first in line for that. The best one in Chinatown is not even called Hainan chicken. It's the steamed chicken with ginger and scallions at Hunan Home's because they cook it to the right tenderness that I don't even need the rice. The $13.25 Hainan Chicken Half was pretty good and prepared with the right fixings including the seasoned soy sauce (photo: https://bit.ly/2FUNKQq). I skipped the rice because I couldn't afford the carbs that evening. Instead, I went for the $11 Steamed Broccoli in Oyster Sauce, and that was quite a hefty serving. This was a classic Chinatown takeout meal in a neighborhood that's sadly turned into a bit of a ghost town. They definitely need our patronage. I LOVE EATING HERE!!!!! I grew up by Chinatown in NYC and it spoiled me. I always make it a point to visit when I'm in the city. I'm not going to recommend anything, as it is worth discovering for yourself. The absolute Best in the West!!!

I came here again recently during the Chinatown street fair and really enjoyed our lunch here. The seafood noodle soup was really yummy and they also gave us free tea. It wasn't crowded so we didn't even need to wait for a table. I like this renovated restaurant as it seems more spacious than their old restaurant on Stockton. Glad they're still here and surviving the pandemic! I also recommend the red bean drink.

Decided to go to a random spot in San Francisco. This place has lots of options, ordered the combination soup. The soup was served too hot. Very simple chicken broth. I am used to having more of a scallion dip but they didn't have it here. Average~

Eater SF ranks San Sun on the top underrated restaurants in San Francisco. It's one of the few ChiuChow cuisine I've seen in California. I recommend the Combination noodle soup with either small rice noodle or wide egg noodles. There are 8 kinds of noodles you can pick for your noodle soup. The most unique dish is Pure Rice Noodle. I recommend trying it. It's stir fry short thick rice noodles with an egg. I've never seen short thick rice noodles (they call it Pure Rice Noodle) anywhere before. After googling it, looks like these noodles are typically in South East Asian such as Hong Kong, Cambodia, Malaysia. When I came for a visit in December 2021, their hours at 10am-4pm, they are on grubhub, and other ordering apps.

If you are looking for an authentic , yummy Chinese restaurant, most definitely come here. They have wonderful customer service and a wide variety of food. The food itself is flavorful, smells wonderful and is good quality. The love and effort put into the dishes makes it taste 100x better. Definitely come here if you are looking for friendly staff and yummy food at an affordable price.

The staff are super friendly, the meatballs are super good, the noodles are perfectly cooked and the broth is amazing. The boiled chicken and rice was also really authentic and tasted good. Definitely give this place a shot, it may look sketchy from the outside but the inside is lit up perfectly and has a super friendly aura.

This place is okay. It's odd 'tho, as I went to Chinatown looking for Chinese Food and when you walk on Stockton and many of the perpendicular streets like Jackson, or parallel streets like Grant, you'll notice there's really not that many restaurants you can sit down and eat at. There's a few bakery styled dim sum take out spots. There's lots of markets, trinket stores and jewelry shops. There's really not a whole lot of restaurants, or at least in the area we were walking around. This place looked new and clean 'tho it touted "Pho" so I wasn't sure if this place had Chinese food and was Vietnamese, which it ended up being pretty much both, including some Cantonese dishes. The prices were okay, the portions were okay as well 'tho not as big in quantity as I used to recall back in the days, such as the Chow Fun which should have been double the portions served. The service was friendly and efficient enough. I'd recommend it if you're in the area and looking for food to eat.

Humble noodle shop in Chinatown but extra props for pig's kidneys and accepting credit cards. The majority of the menu at San Sun is some form of noodle soup and you can pick your noodles - anything from egg noodles to rice vermicelli. They also have the most pig's kidneys I've seen on a menu. I'm not necessarily a fan per se but it does have nostalgic appeal since grandma used to make it a lot and the preparation here is pretty similar. It all just reminds me of grandma. Appreciate the effort to clean and cook it since I won't at home. Option to have it in noodle soup or stir-fried with ginger and scallions. I've had the former but wished the broth had more flavor. Service is tolerable but at least they accept credit cards.

Located in the heart of SF Chinatown, this Vietnamese Restaurant have great Pho noodles. Bowl is large without too much MSG. Lots of choices on menu.

Been to China many times and this was my first time to this eatery for lunch. I order scramble egg with beef over "fun" noodle. The scramble egg was too watery, but noodle was hot. Appears to be authentic Chinese food. The dish is relatively smaller than others in China Town. The price is above average, service is good in China Town. Bottom line, I will visit again for other dishes.

San Sun is a huge restaurant right in the center of China Town. We ventured in for lunch before we left to start driving back to San Diego. When we arrived we were immediately seated. The waitress then brought us some complimentary tea while we decided what to order. We ordered a couple noodle dishes, some wontons and some rice for my nephew. We were brought the wontons within a few moments. They were good. She then brought our noodle dishes. She didn't bring my nephew's rice and she tended to stay in the back of the restaurant so I went to the back to ask if she could bring his rice. A few minutes later she brought the bowl of rice. My nephew liked his rice. The tea was fine and so were the wontons. The noodle dishes were okay. There wasn't a lot of flavor, everything needed a lot more garlic, ginger or some spice. They have an extensive menu with many different items, lots of different kinds of noodles, to choose from for each dish as well as soups and entrees.

we've been eating at San Sun at both the old and new locations. they have always been generous with their portions and quick to get our plates on the table. this visit I tried the bitter melon and chicken rice plate and my wife had the hai nam chicken with ho fun rice noodles; delicious! we recommend San Sun for taking your out of town guests to a great family restaurant in Chinatown.

The only thing I'm reviewing is #311 Dried Beef Ho Fun with Bean Sprout ($9.25), which I ate as a takeout dish, and it's excellent! My parents have been looking for legit beef chow fun with thin-cut rice noodles, which according to them is more authentic than what you usually find in the states (very thick, sticky, stretchy rice noodles). Besides that, the beef slices are amazing, superbly tender, and the whole dish has great flavor. The fresh, lightly cooked bean sprouts give each bite a perfect crunch. I really loved this and would come back just for this dish!

Reviewing for the pork and rice dish only. This place was pretty decent of a choice during my walk around Chinatown. Featuring a $9.50 com suon nuong, I'd have to say that it was rather tasty and affordable. I'm not sure if it's ran by Chinese or Vietnamaese staff, but they have the menu in English and Vietnamese which I thought was great! My com suon nuong came out pretty quickly, along with free hot tea. The staff was attentive even though it was pretty crowded. The dish came with 2 large pieces of pork, a good portion of rice, and cucumbers and lettuce. The fish sauce was also pretty delicious and I have no complaints about the meal! $10.02 total after tax is cheap to me who is a San Francisco local :)

Pork Kidney in Satay Sauce. I liked how the portion was generous, BUT I did NOT enjoy this dish. When you cook kidneys, you have to know how to clean them really well especially if the kidneys you're cooking with are thick; otherwise, you won't be able to get rid of the smell. This place does not know how to clean kidneys well, let me tell you that as a fact, yet ironically they list two kidney dishes as two of their specialties. The pieces were just too thick and they didn't clean them well. Too bad because I enjoy eating kidneys. And the sauce was kinda blah too. Satay sauce should have some dried shrimp in it, but you couldn't detect any of that in their sauce. VERDICT: yum or yuck? Sorry, but definitely YUCK.

I was a fan of this lovely restaurant when it was at its Stockton Street location and still a great fan now that it's replaced the dim sum place on Washington! I come here quite a bit with my family after attending church service on Sundays since it's such a convenient place to sit down and enjoy a good meal. Their menu is huge! There's a mix of Chinese and Vietnamese dishes here. The only things I ever order here are the soup noodles and they've always been a solid choice. What makes me really like this place is their expanse selection of noodles: egg noodles, wide egg noodles, vermicelli, rice noodles, etc. I always end up getting the beef stew noodle soup with the wide egg noodles and would recommend it. There's also an interesting seafood noodle soup which comes with what I can only describe as a fossilized shrimp which is quite interesting. You might want to check that out. The downsides to this location are that it's not necessarily the cleanest or have the best of service. Also, a lot of their menu items are a hit or a miss. Some of them can be really good while others are just bland or too salty. P.S. The monitors on the wall displaying the date and time on them are very very interesting. You'll know what I mean if you saw them. :P

My family and I have been eating here for over 20 years. We always get their fried fish balls, shrimp and pork noodle soup, and spicy beef saday sauce noodle soup. Occasionally we will try other entrees and noodle soups as well. Although the restaurant is not one of the cleanest you'll find, my family thinks that the quality of their food had stayed consistent for over two decades (at least, the dishes that we regularly order). Maybe I have emotional ties to this place, but my opinion is that this restaurant is a solid place to eat at if you're in the area!

I came doing the happy hour (I think it's from 3-6pm) and ordered D9 - Tender Beef & Beef-Tripe Rice noodle. Overall, I thought the beef & noodles tasted pretty good and the broth was flavorful. The food also came out pretty quick, but I came at a down time when there were only 2 other tables filled. The prices were cheap during happy hour -- I ordered the large for $6.50. I think their large is actually equivalent to a typical medium size in other restaurants, so it's probably best to get a large if you're hungry. In addition to the reduce prices during happy hour, Yelp has a 10% cash back for this particular restaurant. So I'd recommend giving this place a try during happy hour!

GOOD. CHEAP. FOOD. For their noodle soup, I like how you get to choose the type of noodle. You can also mixed 2 types together or get it dry. The prices are cheap compared to other places and you have so many options of food to choose from. And you get your food after only a few minutes of ordering. The staff are always prompt here and it's cute how they seem to be really close to each other - almost like a family owned restaurant if not.

I was so bummed that I haven't been to old Stockton Street location. But I'm glad that old location has CLOSED! The new location took over the historic Sun Wah Kue location, which been there since the Pacific Railroad Act of 1862. "You knew that, right?" On my debut of the new relocated restaurant, I was browsing through the glossy, colorful and extensive menu. The new joint serves Chinese (Mandarin & Cantonese) and Vietnamese Cuisines. "Did somebody say, Vietnamese?" And that is what I ordered for lunch-#86: Bun Ghau Yau Bo Nhuong. For $7.25, the bowl had grilled chicken, cold vermicelli noodles, a cut up egg roll and fresh vegetables all in one bowl with a dipping sauce. You have noticed the egg roll without the "s", is because I only received one in my dish. Other than that, the bowl was fine. I also had a Vietnamese Iced coffee with my meal. I needed because I was sleepy. As I was enjoying my meal, I was also watching NBA Basketball. "A couple of old men, dining there and sitting next to me, cheered for...Jeremy Lin? I'm shocked!" And here is another shocking part. The Health Department gave the new restaurant a score of: 98, which were graded in the beginning of February of 2012. That is pretty clean for a Chinatown business. A new and clean restaurant, but I do feel optimistic about the score of 98. Unlike the historic Sun Wah Kue restaurant, no free slice of pie. Decent food and I hope the new San Sun will start a new chapter where the old business left off.

Clean pho place in Chinatown Did not expect a pho place in Chinatown that was this clean! The inside was huge, with lots of seats and TVs close to the ceiling. I ordered the Pho that was part of the "afternoon tea" discount items, fully expecting the reduced price to lead to a small bowl of pho, but boy, was I wrong! The pho came in a huge metal salad bowl, with lots and lots of ingredients and many kinds of beef. The lemon iced tea was also very, very well made, with just the right amount of syrup and actual lemon flavor. The menu also has non-vietnamese items as well (e.g. chinese rice dishes), probably because the place is in chinatown. All in all, an ok place to visit if you're craving for some pho in a clean place in ctown.

I would have not given it any star if I could. Firstly, sauce was all over my $60.00+ order. The salt n pepper fried chicken wings has no favor other than a heavy black peppercorn taste. The beef chow fun was black, yes black and it doesn't have any bean sprouts. The hoinan chicken was over cooked n without the ginger sauce and the combination lime in only had one shrimp and some rough pork slices and the pork kidney had no more than 12 piece and the rest of the dish are just union n ginger. The whole order tasted nasty and the look was horrible. DO NOT EAT HERE.

San Sung is amazing. Everything in this place's wonderful: taste good, cheap & good portion. On top of all these, there're like 300 food items to choose from the menu. I'd recommend trying their noodle. They're delicious, & has good consistency. They go about $5 - $7 for noodle soup. Their beef & fish balls're pretty good too; very rich in flavor. You can get them for about 5 bucks. Combination Fried Noodle ($6.75) - Love this dish! I highly suggest make it a Crispy Fried Noodle for only 50 cents. The crispy noodle, sauce & meat all blend very well together. Overall: You can't go wrong with this place. I went to this place 3 times within a week and ordered different food everytime; They all turned out good! Their noodle's the highlight of my experience here. Good authentic Chinese food, cheap price & good portions - What's not to love?!?! However, the service can be pretty bad at times.

Took the kids here while we were in Chinatown and we weren't really impressed. Staff was nice, food was ok, prices weren't awful, but it just didn't blow us away. Pot stickers were loaded with garlic.

This is one of my default Postmate places for the past year. Love their, "Hainam Chicken" (Hainan Chicken). Almost as good as Savoy in LA. Good portion sizes and a variety of menu options. I always get the chicken and steamed Gai LAN (Chinese ).

The reviews here aren't fair. Ambience and service isn't what you expect from a standard restaurant, and if you expect your food heavily flavored.... It's legit Chinese and Vietnamese food. We had veggie , I got bitter melon and fish, and my friend got mixed meat chow mein. It was memorable and I'd go right back. Great mixed drinks, too.

Has no AC. Horrible..over load on pho noddles..very hot noddle..never get an chance to be cold. Everything. Is in an Aluminum bowl serve and stay hot forever!!! Order hot and sour soup, broth was clear..picture was supposed to be describe as red not clear. Not sour soup...they reheated my soup. Toke 10 minutes, ate 3 spoons...and just set it aside and put my drink on top of the nasty soup I had. Worst food experience. .I taste better Vietnamese food then this. Spent $51.00 worth of food on my vacation with 5 people. No tip. Walk out pissed Would not recommanded

I'm a regular at this business and uually this place is pretty good. You've probably been to this restaurant a lot and even when it was on Stockton. This restaurant will always be a staple here in CT and I'd probably be devastated. Today was a bit different then usual. I got soup noodles today and what I got was surprising. No, they didn't give me the wrong order. The noodles. What about them you ask? It was short! Like you could practically eat the soup with just a spoon. I slowly ate my soup with my chopsticks, but soon gave up and just ate with my spoon. Man, I was so super disappointed with the quality today, but that's not going to keep me from not coming here.
