The Best Philly Restaurants Where You Can Also Watch Sports

"Sancho Pistola’s isn’t so much a sports bar as it is a restaurant that happens to have a TV within view of every table, but that’s exactly why we like it. There’s never really a huge crowd here, so if you want to watch the Flyers lose in peace while you taste test a bunch of way-above-average tacos, nachos, and margaritas, this is the place to do it. They also have other locations, Jose Pistola’s in Rittenhouse and Pistolas Del Sur in South Philly, that are equally as good. " - candis mclean

The 18 Best Margaritas In Philadelphia

"Sancho Pistola’s has a laid-back atmosphere, some solid tacos, and Happy Hour margarita pitchers for $15. It’s easily one of our favorite places in Fishtown to hang out with a few friends. Inside, you’ll find a few high-top tables, some Christmas lights wrapped around the beams in the ceiling, and a long u-shaped bar with a few TVs. They also have a lot of variety when it comes to margaritas—you can find ones that are sugar-free, some with mezcal, and the option to add a Gran Marnier float.  " - candis mclean

Sancho Pistola’s Review - Fishtown - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"Sancho Pistola’s is a Mexican restaurant that happens to have a TV within view of every table, which makes it the perfect place to have dinner while you watch a game. There’s never really a huge crowd here (except during Happy Hour), so if you want to watch the Flyers lose in peace while you taste test a bunch of way-above-average tacos, this is the place to do it. They also have another location, Jose Pistola’s, in Rittenhouse that’s basically the same deal, so if you’re not a North Philly resident you should head there instead." - Sydney McElwee

Google
This is a great little Mexican spot close to my house. I love their late hours and their food is very decent for a hole in the wall Mexican spot. We all saw the burritos got good reviews, and we got three! The chorizo, spicy pork and Kobe beef burrito and all liked our food. Waitress was very attentive with refilling our waters and food came out fasts All in all we had a great time and we’ll be back again!

Google
Friendly service, yummy food, and a fun atmosphere makes us a great place to visit! Vegan and vegetarian options available. No charge to use your credit card is a big plus.

Google
The creative Mexican dishes and lively atmosphere make every visit a blast. Cocktails are top-notch and the staff always make you feel welcome. It’s the kind of place you’ll want to linger with friends.

Google
Food has been delicious. Been here about a handful of times and the kitchen cooks are phenomenal each time. Tacos, Enchiladas, Steak Burrito, & Nachos have been so flavorful. I’m a HUGE fan of the mango & pomegranate guacamole. Bartenders are welcoming every time & servers have been friendly as well. Would definitely recommend this spot for a flavorful bite to eat.

Google
I got the corn on the cob (elote) & cheesesteak empanadas. Both were flavorful and delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed them! My husband got a chicken tinga burrito which I tried and it was good as well! The churros were decent, wish it came with caramel instead of the chocolate. The flan was delicious. There were a couple of other items on the menu that we are interested to try next time!

Google
Always passed this place when going down Girard and finally tried it the other day. Everything was great tasting and no complaints. This is a great location for outside seating during a nice day and the inside also provides a lot of seating. Their happy hour is def worth it for the Margarita Pitcher! Will for sure go back again.

Google
Very chill bar setting/atmosphere. My friend and. I came and were immediately serviced (it was a quiet Saturday evening, early. Around 9pm). I ordered a rice bowl with brussel sprouts and we shared plantains. I also had a passion fruit marg. My friend had the birria tacos. Enjoyed everything! Our bartender / server was nice and attentive. Would recommend this for a lowkey or chill outing.

Google
We were having a great time and enjoying the food at this place although we got a carafe with warm water to start. The taco dish only included 2 small tacos which were good, but a bit expensive for the portion. The corn on the cob and plátanos were delicious and plentiful which you kind of needed to have a full meal. The nachos were tasty as well. Our server was good and we probably would’ve stayed longer and spent more money for drinks especially, but the food runner had VERY obnoxious and offensive body odor. Probably the worse I’ve ever smelled for anyone who worked in a restaurant. It wasn’t regular oh some needs more deodorant, this was terrible. I would not have ordered anything if I smelled that horrid body odor smell first. The space of the restaurant is small, so I knew we couldn’t be the only ones who smelled it. My husband was congested when we got there, but the smell helped clear the sinuses which I guess is an upside. I wouldn’t eat here again because I’m not sure about their standards especially hygienic standards. If not for the smell, I would’ve given 4, possibly 5 stars, but that ruined it for me.

Yelp
I've only gone here a few times with friends. I took their recommendation and ordered the Sancho burger. I like my burgers well done and this burger was delicious and comes with a generous order of fries.

Yelp
This place was very overhyped to me by locals lol. Upon walking in Sancho Pistola's gives dive bar which I don't mind. I have tried two things from the menu. The nachos and the chicken burrito. The nachos were pretty good but just really expensive at $18. In the description for the tacos it mentions they use a "very expensive cheese" so I guess that make sense?? lol. The burrito was okay. I don't have to get it again. I did enjoy my drink here. I ordered an elderflower crush and it was very strong. I would definitely come back here for drinks and a quick bite, but it was definitely extremely over hyped. I was expecting so much more from the food.

Yelp
Dropped in before a show at The Filmore for dinner and drinks. We got Chips, guac, and chicken/birria tacos. All were actually so so good! We also happened to arrive in time for happy hour and got a pitcher of Guava Margs and Strawberry. During Happy Hour, Marg pitchers are $10 off which is such a good deal!!! The bartenders were really friendly Nd attentive. The place itself was a little run down but the food and prices compensate well!

Yelp
Pretty standard bar atmosphere. Lots of woods and glass. Drinks are great and strong. Definitely get your money worth. Food is good.

Yelp
We enjoyed this place after our original spot ran out of food haha. This place was on our list and was nearby on a rainy day so we stopped in. Let me preface by saying I've been to this place twice now, it isn't super packed and the staff is very friendly, they're appreciated. It's a nice mix of bar and table, and because it's not crowded it's quiet enough to enjoy a conversation. On to the food! The mango margarita is pretty good, nice drink to have that doesn't include alcohol. The Tachos are no more (found out on my second trip but I imagine the nachos are prob good since they have the same toppings). The star of the show and I didn't get a picture because I inhaled them, the short rib birria tacos. Good taco, juicy with some consomé, 3.5-4/5.

Jake B.

Yelp
Wings were great. Blue cheese was amazing. Some of the best I've tried in town Margarita was very solid Crab guac was fire Servers were great Only real complaint was that the beer we ordered was extremely old. Will come back for sure but not for the canned craft beer

Yelp
The food here is great!! I love love their nachos! Love the picked onions and the "expensive cheese" that they use lol. The burrito my husband got had a little too much rice and beans. Their chicken tinga is flavored well. Ive also had their korean inspired dishes and loved the fusion flavor. I have gotten food through door dash and also sat their to eat and both experiences were good! Great mexican food in the neighborhood.
google avatar

Juel A.

Yelp
The mixed drinks were good. For food we only had the Nachos and they were also pretty good. Service was also great. A good place to go have food and drinks with friends or for a date.

Yelp
Great happy hour deal on margarita pitchers. They have such fun guacamole options, try the tuna or pistachio!! Always nice service. Go on a nice day and sit outside!

Yelp
Sancho Pistola's guac is bomb! The Spicy Tuna and the Mango Pomegranate are SO delicious. Even the basic guac is really good and well seasoned. The Mahi Mahi tacos and Birria tacos are good too, but not great. As for the drinks: I kept asking for my spicy mezcal margarita to be spicier. Idk what was going on, but it had no spice at all. I ended up getting the Wolf Like Me which is basically a mezcal Negroni and it was terrible! It had no detectable Mezcal flavor so it just tasted bitter and medicinal (and I'm a Negroni fan, but this was totally out of balance). I did however think the Pinche Pinche with Mezcal, a wine shrub, and Amaro was delicious! Would recommend. I'm not sure if they were just having an off night with the drinks, but it was pretty disappointing. Also, be ready to yell across the table because the music here is LOUD. Otherwise a cute spot, I like the candles and string lights.

Yelp
Great place great food Yuheard my sis a regular at this spot never let us down drinks always on point to update the menu frequently

Yelp
Decided to stop by after anything else in Fishtown was closed. It was a nice surprise! Burger was super juicy and very big in size. We saw that they had spicy tuna guac and we had to give it a try, it was interesting and it wasn't fishy but probably wouldn't get it again haha. It wasn't bad but my personal favorite. The only downside was that it was a bit pricy.

Yelp
The food was amazing fr. The flavors were great!! The cheesesteak empanadas and the drinks were great!

Yelp
I love the food here! The Brussels sprout taco is one of my all time favorite foods. The nachos are perfect. I had an issue with an order and the manager was amazing with customer service. Service is always great and the drinks are delicious.

Yelp
Wow see I need to come back for a full dinner. Because we stopped in here for drinks and apps before a concert over at the Fillmore and so I had to really be selective with the food we had. We ended up going with the birria tacos and the carnitas bao buns and wow both were extremely good. They also give you chips when you sit down. The drinks were strong (we did ask for doubles) and the service was fast and pleasant. I'll be back!

Yelp
Happy hour offers $10 off their margarita pitchers (which are made with real juice I might add), as well as a few discounts on appetizers. The food is delicious and obviously sourced from quality purveyors. The menu is somewhat small but has a little for everyone. My main reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is the portion sizes just don't match the prices. 2 meat tacos for $13 on tiny corn tortillas? I should be getting 3 tacos for that price. The red and green salsas, while both delicious and obviously homemade, were in tiny bowls with a small amount of chips. The pitchers of margaritas for $45 are actually half pitchers, the rest is ice. However, they do get four-star's because the bartenders are fantastic as are the servers and the food is very good. Lots of TVs to keep your attention, even though you can't hear them over the bustling patrons. Outside seating as well as bar seating. Great music always! Go during happy hour as you'll get a better value.

Yelp
Came here after a night out and i love how late their kitchen is open. The service was amazing and the food was nice! Nachos def hit the spot and even tho they felt like they were missing a component, maybe a guac or more salsa or something, the homemade tortilla chips were so good that i was not rlly thinking abt that lol. Perf late night food

Alexandra ..

Yelp
Mariah R was so sweet and yummy shrimp tacos . Plus it Chill lowkey cozy place thumbs up

Yelp
When my date suggested Sancho's for dinner, I enthusiastically replied "yes, it's one of my favorite places!" Came in for dinner on a not-so-busy Tuesday night, and asked to be seated outside, as the inside is always too loud to even have a conversation with someone right in front of you. We were sat promptly, given water, and the server said they'd give us a few minutes with the menu. 15-20 minutes later, a different person came over and asked if everything was OK. Not "are you ready to order" or "hey would you like drinks", I don't even think they were our server. There wasn't any recognition of us waiting outside with nothing for that long, and even less attention when we didn't order drinks. But at that point, why would we stay around just to be ignored more? The food has been in decline the last few years, and the service last night really sold it to me that I'm not going to go back. I've been to Sancho's countless times over the last 7-8 years, but it's pretty obvious that its best days are behind it.

Crys D.

Yelp
The Birria tacos were good. However, I think that their food is overpriced. Unfortunately, the churros I had were soggy in the middle so they weren't very good. The server was awesome. She was knowledgeable and personable. I will stick to going to my go to spot El Enano. Their prices are more reasonable and the food is equally if not more tasty.

David E.

Yelp
Came in for lunch on a Friday. Place started really empty, but got busier with people coming in. Food was great, and the service was ok... Not pushy but we didn't have to hunt down the server either. Ambiance... Is probably better in the evening with more people, but it wasn't bad. We had a nice location by a window. All in all, we'll be back.
google avatar

Yelp
Grabbed a beer and some guacamole here for lunch and my experience was OK. Service was decent - the bartender was doubling as the server but I didn't feel like service was super slow or anything. The beer selection was not super diverse, although Allagash White is usually a pretty safe bet :) The guac was sadly the most disappointing part of the meal! Way too much pico (so everything tasted pretty vinegary) and the guac didn't have enough salt, so it tasted a little bland. Add onto that the price ($12!) and we were pretty disappointed. The guac did taste fresh, so that's a plus, but I'd definitely order something else if I came back.
google avatar

Meera K.

Yelp
Great Mexican with vegetarian options - soyrizo! We ordered 2 mezcal drinks, chips and their seasonal pomegranate guac, nachos and burrito. All the food came before the drinks which was a little strange. I wish I couldn't enjoyed my drink with the chips and guac. The soyrizo was really tasty on the nachos and burrito. Burrito was pretty average, the components weren't really mixed so you either got a bite full of rice or a bite full of soyrizo. The seasonal guac was nice and refreshing, the pomegranate was nice and sweet. The nachos are huge so definitely shareable.

Yelp
This is our first time trying this place although we've passed it a million times. We were very happy with all of our food. We ordered chicken nachos and got chicken tacos instead but they were good so we weren't disappointed. Next we had the short rib birria tacos and the mahi mahi tacos- I asked for extra chipotle aioli on the side and it was so good, we were dipping other things in it. We completely forgot to order sides but wanted to try one more taco, we tried the Korean beef one which by far was my favorite. It had so much flavor, the meat was a little chewy so this isn't the taco for you if that bothers you but the flavor was so good. The short rib birria taco was my other half's fave, it was very tender. We also sampled a coolcumber margarita and a mojito- both were very very good. You could taste the liquor but wasn't overpowering. They accidentally set a flan on our table which then made me order one because it looked so good, and it was. When we told the waiter how delicious it was, he said you should try the churros. Churros are our sons fave so we had to get them to go. I want to go back and try more stuff. Didn't get a lot of pics tonight.

Yelp
Went here before an event because it was close to the venue. Cute place, not large but decent drinks and plenty of margs option. my friend and I got the mango pomegranate guac which was very yummy and seasonal. For dinner I got the birria tacos but there were only two which I feel like there should have been 3 for $18. I really enjoyed them tho. the server was kind and helped me choose a drink. overall yummy and good place to get margs!
google avatar

Yelp
THIS IS THE BEST CORN I'VE HAD IN MY LIFE. Had a great time doing happy hour at Sancho Pistola. First HH in around a year and the staff brought a lot of energy to their service. Helped a lot with picking food. Could tell they are a fun group. Clear dividers separated guests on the indoors and added an extra layer social distancing. Food was great. The corn was so great I had to get seconds. The tequila was also on point. Ordered a flight of Mezcal from various regions that were good. There was one that even tastes like jalapeños. Cannot wait to come back. Great people, great music, awesome food/flavors. One thing I'll add is that they had a new bartender so our marg was ok.
google avatar

Erin H.

Yelp
Went for a quick dinner with my husband before a show at the Fillmore on a Friday night. Food and drinks were great, service was fast, and it's a very lively atmosphere. The place was pretty packed when we got there and it was fairly loud, but a few tables left while we sat and the volume was a bit more manageable by the time we left. Hadn't been there in eight years and the food is definitely just as good!
google avatar

Brittany E.

Yelp
A nice, unassuming Mexican spot right by the Fishtown septa station. It's a small, cute neighborhood bar/restaurant. The margaritas are very good, definitely make sure you order one. The food was also delicious and came out pretty quickly. It was lively inside without being too loud to hold a conversation. The portions are a little smaller than what I'm used to at Mexican restaurants, but the food was really good. I'd definitely come back here for an evening with friends, and it doesn't hurt that it's right around the corner!
google avatar

Kristi P.

Yelp
Stopped in for dinner with a friend. We ordered Street corn, chips & guac, a few sangrias, pork tacos & a burger. I will say the waitress took our food away without asking & we were still picking at it. Otherwise we had a nice time & food was very good.
google avatar

Hitesh N.

Yelp
Came here last Saturday with our pup. They have great outdoor seating. We were seated immediately. They even got a water bowl for our pup . We ordered first round of cocktails with queso fondido. The drinks came out in some time. They were very strong. The glasses were small but strong , very well presented and tasted good. Food took some time to come out. They came missed adding meat to our order. When we reminded then she got meat on the side and chafed us extra for aide meat. It was on a couple of bucks so we didn't care. We ordered burgwr with our second round of drinks and the burger was DELICIOUS. I do recommend this place.
google avatar

Crystal W.

Yelp
I live down the street from this place, and I'm mad that I'm just now trying it before I move away from Philly. Because of Covid, it's outside dining only but you can walk in to place an order. But it seem like they don't have their usual Happy Hour specials (normally M-F 4 to 6 PM). I had the chicken burrito for $12 which comes with a side of green sauce. It was a generous portion and flavorful. Probably one of the better Mexican food that I've tried in Fishtown area (yes including Loco Pez). I had a sample of the spicy frozen mango margarita and it was delicious! Definitely order that. TIPS during COVID: outdoor seating. Can walk inside (with a mask) to place an order. Can order cocktails to go.
google avatar

Haleigh S.

Yelp
I had one mission and one mission only the night we visited. And that was to have a fantastic spicy margarita, that is exactly what I got here. Fabulous margaritas!!! They also have great rotating drafts if that's your thing. I know it's ours!!! We order the buffalo wings as an app, which would you ever think to do in a Mexican restaurant? Probably not but you should!!! The birria tacos were also great. The burrito contributed to 4/5, but that order could be our problem. Only bother contributing factor was a sweaty dinner, but that's just me being a bit bougie. Over all a great find in fishtown.
google avatar

Julie D.

Yelp
Delish drinks and amazing food, after our comedy show at Fillmore. We loved the mezcal margarita, nachos were the best I've had, and great tacos. Highly recommend
google avatar

Tina E.

Yelp
The place was very dark and crowded, but the food and music were both phenomenal. Playlist had everyone bopping, with hits from the 80s and 90s. Food was so good the leftovers didn't even make it to the next day. Ordered the tortilla soup, chicken rings tacos, fried plantains and shishitos. I would order everything again. Shishitos were fried perfectly and I couldn't stop devouring them. The fried plantains had this amazing honey chipotle sauce that was to die for. The tortilla soup was the bees knees. Rich and spicy without being overpowering. I'm craving another bowl already!
google avatar

Sabina W.

Yelp
Met up with my cousin for tacos at Sanchos Pistolas and overall enjoyed my meal. We ordered 1 order of the chicken tinga tacos and 1 order of the birria tacos so that we could try 2 diff tacos. The tacos tasted rather tasty! We enjoyed them. My only critique about the tacos isn't related to taste, but portion size. 1 order comes with only 2 tacos. I think we'd be getting a greater value for what we paid if the orders came with at least 3 tacos. I recommend getting an additional side if just ordering tacos or getting tacos as an appetizer to another dish. The service was fine and I've heard the atmosphere is even nicer at night so I'd potentially return at night to try more off their menu.
google avatar

Samantha F.

Yelp
Cute little Mexican restaurant. All seats are hightop seating. Food is decent, but kinda overpriced especially when you order tacos and only get 2. Definitely recommend getting the guacamole.
google avatar

Vincent G.

Yelp
Loved this place! Their guacamole sample late is out of this world!! Great spot for picking up some margs. It is super affordable - you could head here any day of the week and feel good about what you spent and what you ate. They have an extensive taco menu - really fun to try!
google avatar

Yelp
Would love to leave this place more stars, but really can't at this time. Came in on a mid-Saturday afternoon during their happy hour special period, based solely on their advertisement of happy hour from 3-6pm Monday through Saturday. Really chill spot, but apparently they don't honor their draft happy hour specials as advertised in the photos?? And if they are no longer, or changes have been made, can we update them? Hopefully was just an honest mistake, and wasn't to just me, but yes...you are right, I apparently should have asked to verify such specials...but should we really have to...

Catherine P.

Yelp
Great margaritas. We got the classic and it was perfect. Classic guac also great. 10/10 boots down house on the enchilada also the margs!!!

Yelp
After wanting to come here for a very long time, we finally stopped by Sancho Pistola's for a much needed dinner. We did outdoor dining with our pup. Staff was very friendly and service was great. We ordered queso fundido to start with and the burger. Both the dishes were delicious. Kudos to the bartender for making strong amazing cocktails for the evening. We would definitely come back and highly recommend this place.

Yelp
While looking for a new mexican spot to try in the area we stumbled across Sancho Pistolas. Luckily for a week day night it wasn't too busy and we were able to get a table because they don't take reservations. Overall the drinks were probably my favorite out of everything we ordered but this place definitely has more bar vibes than restaurant. Loved the margaritas! I tried both the original and blood orange. I feel like I always struggle to find a not too sweet margarita and usually order mine as a double to achieve that but not here. They were perfectly balanced. I also tried a lavender drink and it was super cute and refreshing. Not lavender tasting or color. More citrusy but highly recommend. As for food - we tried the guacamole and nachos to start. I felt like the nachos were kinda lacking most toppings except onions. They are heavy on the onion here. This was also reoccurring with the guac. Besides that it was just kinda basic. We also tried out some tacos - mahi mahi and the shrimp. Mahi mahi is always my go to taco order if I see them on a menu. These were good. Nothing I'm crazy about but it's definitely more bar food. Overall this isn't a place I would go out my way for for dinner but would definitely stop back in for some happy hour drinks.

Yelp
This restaurant is a hidden sort of gem. It definitely makes for a great date spot. The food is absolutely delicious. I had the cecina steak tacos and they hit it out of the park. Everything complimented each other. It made for a delicious meal! I also love that their cocktail menu has virgin options really serving the whole community. I was seated at the bar for my evening out and didn't really get as much attention as I would like. Especially eating out alone it is always nice when the bartender is engaging with those at the bar. Hopefully I'll be back on a date to enjoy the casual environment here.

Yelp
Great spot for brunch / lunch in the fishtown area. Personally I could eat their food for every meal. Our server was quick, had great memory and even joined in on a few laughs with us. We got a whole bunch of stuff and I truly enjoyed everything. Some things I would definitely recommend trying are: Spicy Tuna Guacamole Nachos, meat or no meat they are by far my fav nachos Corn soup, if they have it. This was so good I actually tried to remake it myself haha! Brussels sprout tacos are heaven for those who love brussles. We ended up getting two pitchers of margarita, one spicy one traditional and it was nice to mix them in the glass for those who didn't want too much spice! Get you some sancho pistolas ASAP!

Yelp
10/31 -after trying to get SET NoLibs to seat us inside or on their covered street parking, and being told no despite there being open tables and 4 people at a table (same party size as ours). Went to Sacho's and spent our hard earned money there instead and had great food and drinks. Pitches of mimosa's, and the koolata were great. Chicken and biscuits were yummy and the Nashville Hot Chicken was delicious also. Can't go wrong with this place. Large menu and there is something for everyone.
google avatar

Bhavika P.

Yelp
In terms of food Loved the nachos!!! So so good!!! Tuna taco, mahi mahi taco and Brussels sprouts taco all really good. Spicy mango margarita was nice too. Had a good spicy kick to it. In terms of ambience, its good loud music and pub environment so if looking for a chat and dine place don't completely recommend it unless you get an outside seating. Overall good cocktails and tacos. The service is alright as well.

Yelp
I cannot recommend this place enough! My roommate and I have been searching for a great neighborhood taco restaurant in Philly for months now. I am so grateful to have stumbled upon Sancho's- the food is extremely tasty, authentic, and fresh. The drinks are delicious and the staff is extremely friendly all equating to a wonderful experience. Get the spicy ass mango margarita, you won't regret it!

Yelp
Hubby say he would like to dine at a Mexican Fusion restaurant. I knew of Sancho Pistola, but never ate there before. So we got in our adventurous mode. There is happy hour available M-F from 4:00 to 6:00pm. From $4 Sangrias to $7 land tacos. The $7 land tacos would be your best deal as regular price per order ranges from $9-$18. Sancho Pistola were famous for their delicious cocktail drinks for many ppl. I couldn't resist so I try the Smokey Pinna. It definitely is a very smokey flavor drink, couldn't really taste the pineapple. We ordered Carnitas buns, Chicken Enchiladas Verde, Duck land tacos, Korean ribs land tacos, and lobster land tacos. Me and hubby enjoyed everything. Hubby favored the Korean land tacos and Lobster land tacos. My favorite is the Carnitas buns. I like those so much, that I order one to-go:) Of course, no Mexican meal is complete without Flan. Hubby not a fan so he didn't eat any, but I DOG it up lol. ( I was actually glad that hubby didn't want any sheeesh, don't tell on me:)

Yelp
Had an excellent experience at Sancho Pistolas! The food was absolutely incredible and the service was also great. We went during happy hour (which also is on weekends) and they had half off pitchers of margaritas for only $15! I will definitely be returning...the food is seriously mouth watering

Yelp
Margaritas are great. Try the spicy ass. It can spice up the night. Will try food next time.
