18 Best Restaurants & Bars On Galveston Island - Galveston - The Infatuation

"If you fall into the Venn diagram of folks looking for cheap beer and even cheaper pool tables surrounded by miniature lighthouses, then you need to visit Sandy’s Country Store. This East Beach dive bar, which is not a store of any kind, combines the energy of a 1970s chain-smoking aunt’s living room with a Texas honky tonk. We could sit on Sandy’s barstool all night long." - chelsea thomas, gianni greene

Galveston’s Best Dive Bars | Eater Houston

"Decorated with seashell creations hanging from the ceiling and a sleepy, overweight bar cat that takes refuge on the counter, Sandy’s is one of a kind. Though you won’t find martinis or Moscow mules, cans of beer and shots of whiskey are promised. If the doors are open, be sure to stop in. The hours are random."

Google
Towney bar to the core. Classy decor and smart spirits. Good honest American people. If you don't have small town anything in you, I would advise not going. Sandy makes you feel like family. That's always been good enough for me.

Popped in to watch the Astros for an hour. Sandy and friends were very hospitable. I enjoyed my time thoroughly. Texas hospitality to a core.

I've been going there for over a year now and it's the most comfortable place the people are like family the owner is Open Arms always she makes everyone feel so comfortable and it's not a Rowdy place it's a very very Homestyle place

Yelp
A true Galveston dive. If you're looking for frills, keep moving. This is a tried and true local spot that goes all night or not at all, it depends on who's working. Stop in and stay a while.

Yelp
What a wonderful local gem! The ambiance is definitely old school and the hospitality is top notch. Ms.Sandy and her staff were there to serve. My husband enjoyed playing video poker while I watched football. Best drinks and service near the Stand. We'll be back and always recommend others to stop by for a drink.

Yelp
Came across Sandy's on accident and ended up being very happy we did. Very friendly people, stiff drinks and great conversation. I will definitely stop in next time I come to Galveston.

Yelp
Sandy's Country Store is definitely a neighborhood bar. You will find Sandy on premices many nights. Sandy's has a great jukebox, old school. She recently had an ATM installed and that's a good thing, because it is cash only. Beer is mostly domestic, but you may find a Corona. Even better it's the cheapest in town. I know I live on the island. Cocktails are also on hand. Now what I consider very special about Sandy's is the fact that it is dog friendly. There are treats available most times unless my dog has gotten there first. Come by for a cold one

Yelp
It's a rare opportunity to be the first Yelp review for a business that has been around for over ten years. Perhaps this is a testament to the clientele or the seemingly deliberate way in which the exterior blends into the abandoned surroundings. Sandy's is your neighborhood bar. To compare it to Cheers would be cliche, but when it was time to go, all four patrons and Sandy did in fact know our names. The perfect spot for a cold beer on a cold night with an impressive collection of 90's country on the jukebox. The ambiance was warm and inviting, like my grandma's basement. And while I wouldn't order a craft cocktail and the beer selection was minimal, I wouldn't change a thing.

Yelp
I loved this little neighborhood bar. It was quiet. People were friendly and the drinks weren't watered down like a lot of places. Robert, the bartender, was great! He was friendly and introduced himself. He wants to know about his customers. I will definitely go back.

Yelp
Sandy's hits the spot when looking for a clean mom and pop bar! It's like a 1950's time capsule. I'm local and have enjoyed this neighborhood bar ever since I locked myself out of my house and passed the time here with a cold Shiner and good conversation. They know how to make you feel welcome!
