So it seems that Aspen's coffee bar scene is really strong. Some are much friendlier than others though.
This is the 3rd coffee bar I've visited...and I think this is one of their newest?
First of all, this Italian coffee bar had a posh, yet welcoming vibe, with a gorgeous color scheme. Also, they featured a food selection...not just tantalizing pastry items, but lunch menu.
This time, I chose their Chai Latte...and their "Fan" pastries (these mini-sized, Palmier-like pastries). Well, all I can say is WOW to the Chai Latte AND the "Fan" pastry. The Latte art was just OK, but the taste was superb!!
Here's the thing though. I found their service incredibly offputting...as in RUDE. From the moment I went to the cashier, this woman basically barked that I order at the table (which I found somewhat odd...given that this is a bakery-coffee bar??). I don't know, maybe it was just a cultural style...as she was near screaming at me to go order at the table in her thick, Italian accent.
So I sat waiting...and waiting...and NO SERVICE. There was this aloof service girl walking back and forth the whole time, and she did not once ask me if I needed anything! Huh...HELLO?!? After several long minutes, I had to nearly wave down someone to get my order once I was at the table. Once I placed the initial order, everything came out fairly quickly...but then, when I placed an additional order of 2 "Fan" pastries, NOTHING. The waiter basically forgot or something?!? I had to flag down that service girl to see if my pastries were on the way...and she finally managed to bring my order to me. The waiter basically disappeared...so I guess he left his shift??
So yeah. The place, the food and the coffee were stellar. However, the service staff was terrible. Again, I will say that this was a stellar coffee bar...and this could easily have been 5 stars...but thanks to the lackluster service by the staff (the rude cashier, the rude service girl and the waiter's vanishing act), 4 stars is the best that I can do.
