The 25 Best Restaurants & Bars In Santa Barbara

"Santa Barbara Shellfish Co. was founded on the pier in 1980 as a place for local fishermen to sell their freshest catches of the day. Slowly, they started taking the seafood being sold and cooking it into clam chowder, crab cakes, and lobster pasta until SB Shelling became the full-fledged restaurant that it is today. Come lunchtime, this tiny place is a certifiable tourist magnet, but if you bypass their regular menu and go straight for the daily specials, you will be rewarded with the freshest seafood in Santa Barbara. We wish we could eat their uni-topped scallops every afternoon for the rest of our lives. " - brant cox, nikko duren, sylvio martins, garrett snyder

The food was great but I wish I could get the whole crab 🦀 because I paid 80$ for it. The body was empty so I could only eat the legs. I’m Asian and we love the whole crab. It was delicious and had a sweetness in it. The 6 pieces of sea urchin and raw scallops were fine. The lobster taco was also delicious but not so much taste. With a little bit salt and sauce it became much better. Chris was fabulous and asked us many times if we needed anything. He also explained everything and we were happy to sit there. It was also very cold to sit outside. We paid 225$ in total

This place is a gem right on the pier. You can’t beat the setting—ocean views, the sound of the waves, and the smell of the grill in the air. It’s casual, but the food is anything but ordinary. I had the cioppino, and everything was cooked perfectly— well-seasoned, and full of flavor. The lobster roll was another standout: buttery, generous on the lobster, and hit the spot. Service was quick and friendly. It’s the kind of place where the quality speaks for itself—no frills, just really solid seafood done right. Perfect spot for a laid-back lunch or sunset dinner with views.

Every time if we take a road trip up north passing by Santa Barbara, we always stop at one of our favorite seafood restaurant which is this one. I tried their Rock Crab before. Now I tried the Box Crab. Both tasted fresh and sweet. Their Uni scallops sashimi style were very fresh. Crab cake and clams chowder also tasted good. Can get crowded cuz it’s located on the pier. I didn’t call for a reservation I was just stop by and waited about 30 mins to 45 mins for a table cuz it was pretty crowded in there. Not sure if they do take rsvp cuz we didn’t cal for one. As for parking was quite difficult but we got lucky. When park on the pier it’s free the first 90 mins. After that I believe I paid additional $4 for an extended 1 hour. We were there couple days before 7/4 so I was packed cuz people were traveling for the holidays. It was nice while eating and enjoying the water view.

This was such a unique experience for us. Being able to drive on a pier to go eat dinner. They have the seafood right out to see. Everything was great from the oysters, uni shooter rock crab and lobster pasta. Not to mention sitting on the dock was the perfect atmosphere and the heaters kept us warm. Staff was attentive and helpful.

One of most delightful meals-for-one I've had in a very long time. Highly recommend the shrimp cocktail, oysters, and the lobster bisque in a bowl! Service was beyond excellent! The view from my outside table: stunning.

Nicest waiter, got to sit outside on the pier by the water! The shrimp & scallop pasta was incredible - not fishy in taste, but had a savory sauce!! The warm food was well welcome on a cold day! They were not skimpy on how many shrimp and scallops they had in the dish!! Could not recommend it more from that stand point alone👍🏼

This place came recommended to us and we are so happy we went. The restaurant is the last stop on the wharf so you are surrounded by ocean, boats, and sea life. Everything we got here was great. The boc crab special was the best crab I've had. The lobster bisque was creamy and filled with huge chunks of lobster. The lobster tacos might be my favorite seafood taco I've had - the slaw and sauce were a perfect compliment. The biggest surprise was the Uni shooter which i got out of curiosity and ended up being a delicious bite.

Not worth $37. The lobster roll looked pretty, but sadly it was smothered with salt. Also, it is a cold roll, which is not mentioned on the menu. I didn’t mind that it was cold but more so that it was flavorless. The coleslaw was also bland and soggy. And the 2 onion rings that it came with were underwhelming. The only thing I liked about the restaurant was the service. The waiters were very nice. I gave the service 4/5 stars because one of the waiters forgot to put in my order in and I waited an unnecessary amount of time for my food. I hope they read my comment and make adjustments to their lobster roll. Not sure I’ll ever come back here.
