20 Epic Places to Ring in the New Year | Condé Nast Traveler

"At midnight, a Spanish colonial artisan-crafted Zia symbol is lifted high while fireworks fill the sky from nearby La Fonda on the Plaza; with food trucks, hot chocolate, and biscochito vendors, plus the soft scent of piñon bonfires wafting through the air, it’s the coziest way I know to start the new year." - Elissa Garay

What a wonderful place for evening stroll. Lots of window shopping comes naturally. Of course tons of museums and cafes and restaurants. Historic Cafes and restaurants definitely require patience with waiting time. The street vendors also offer good accessories. Very very dog friendly. Only downside is finding parking.

We had a sad event and my Sandy want'd to get out of the house and clear the air. The drive from Colorado Springs is only under 5 hours. Like other people say, get a hotel close to the square. Parking is scarce. It was nice to walk around and leave the car. Sandy got 3 10k step days. Great restaurants are plenty. We luck'd out and watch'd the tree lighting festivities. So fun. And shops, shops, shops. A little expensive, but we found things in our range. The people of Santa fe are warm and friendly. A calm feel to this town. We will come back.

The plaza decor and feel was of Christmas for sure. The galleries were loaded with amazing art and sculptures. The kind of stuff that you decorate your house around. Truly unique beautiful stuff. So, the prices at the shops were of fund babies - a simple set of mass produced earrings $200. A nice sculpture $20,000. Yikes!

The charming downtown square is surrounded by amenities and attractions. It features many restaurants, souvenir shops, art galleries, and other stores. A bank with an ATM is on site. A special highlight is the Saturday market, where local artisans gather to sell their handmade items.

The Santa Fe plaza, with its quaint little stores, colorful artwork, and sun-warmed adobe pillars, makes for a charming stroll that can fill a day beautifully. The atmosphere is lively, and we came across a market where artisans were selling jewelry. The walkability of the plaza makes it easy to pop into art galleries, and catch a glimpse of historic landmarks. The place could be even more lively with pop-up sports, or dance battles.

Santa Fe Plaza is magical on Christmas night, with trees wrapped in colorful lights creating a festive, lively atmosphere perfect for walking. Visited again the next afternoon which offered a completely different charm—bright, and scenic. Unique local shops surround the plaza, Plaza Café stays busy, and the nearby Cathedral is stunning inside and out. Parking is scarce, especially at night, but the walkable vibe makes it worth it.

No visit to Santa Fe would be complete without starting here. Plus you’ll overhear the “local” tour guides (easy to spot as they’re all wearing Steve Erwin adjacent outfits) talking to large groups and decide you’re much better off navigating the city solo. Also plenty of dubious Chinese souvenirs masquerading as local turquoise etc in the colonnades. Still, it is beautiful. And very central 🤣🤦‍♀️

Absolutely stunning place. This place has the vibes, the feel of the celebrations. Vibrant, colorful and playful - that’s the feel that you get while at the Santa Fe plaza. Multiple gift shops, art galleries, churches & cathedrals, shopping places and exceptional eateries. The plaza cafe being the best example. There is always a mood of celebration in the air. We loved the vibrance of the place. La Fonda being the central point of attraction for a great downtown.
