"BBQ is a food rooted in social assemblage. Eating tri-tip, ribs, and hot links while surrounded by friends and family, listening to music, and drinking too many adult beverages is simply part of the experience. But it’s also one that’s tricky to pull off in a pandemic - particularly in a restaurant setting. But Gold Land BBQ, a Sunday-only pop-up in a Culver City parking lot, has proven that it can still be done both safely and comfortably, with some incredible food to boot. Located behind Menotti’s Coffee Stop in Culver City West, your experience at Gold Land BBQ starts the second you pull in. With a massive outdoor BBQ pit, blankets and chairs strewn around for people to hang out, and a separate truck selling frozen margaritas, you realize quickly this isn’t just a pop-up, it’s a full-on neighborhood BBQ party. Gold Land is run by a group of friends, and from the moment you walk up to order (you can also ), you’re their friend as well. It’s rare, even in the pop-up world, to feel like you’ve accidentally stumbled into somebody’s party, but at Gold Land, that’s sort of the case. We only say “sort of” because you actually feel like you were invited all along. As far as the food goes, this is Santa Maria-style BBQ, meaning everything from the tri tip to the linguica hot links are grilled over coastal red oak, which imparts a unique smoky-sweet flavor that’ll stay on your lips - and mind - for hours. Four stars for the takeout, five for the food quality. Santa Maria is primarily a catering service...and they are incredible. When not on the road, they run a takeout from this location. Food is great, but parking and seating are scarce. Food is second to none...I have driven 20 miles to eat here, and not regretted it. If you're in the area check to make sure they're open before you go. If you need a party catered, this is your place. Best food you'll ever have made from a trailer full of charcoal!

I can't tell you how many times I drove past this place, caught a glimpse of the "BBQ" sign and got all excited only to find out they were closed. But, instead of leaving them an undeserved 1-Star rating, I made a mental note of their business hours and carried on until one day last week, I realized I was in the area and it was before 3pm. I drove up, found parking on the street right in front, and wished I had taken a look at their menu before I got to the window to order. I was pretty hungry, which is never a good idea, but the woman at the window was very helpful. I new I wanted baby back ribs but I wanted to try more of what they had so I would know for next time what to get a lot of. She suggested the sample platter with tri-tip, baby backs and chicken. I'm not normally a big chicken fan but I didn't want to ask to substitute anything as I know a lot of places will give you a hard eye roll just for thinking about it. So I went with that and I chose the coleslaw for my side. You know if the coleslaw is good, the BBQ is going to be good. She asked if I wanted their regular or spicy BBQ sauce on the side (I like that they put the sauce on the side and offer the meat as it was cooked. A lot of places will drown their meet in sauce which potentially hides what some might consider a poorly prepared meat. This place was confident in the quality and taste of their meat and leave it up to you to add more flavor on top of the flavor in their meats.) I decided to get a little of each since I can't eat super spicy stuff like I use to. But their spicy sauce was just the right amount of heat and excellent flavor. I decided to take my order home with me but I got that coleslaw out before I got to the first light. Man! I almost turned around to go back and get more. I wish I had! I finished it before I got home and grabbed a piece of tri-tip just before pulling in the driveway. Oh, man! No sauce and so tender and flavorful! The ribs were on point and I even liked the chicken. I will say that I would've like the chicken skin to be more crispy (I'm a big texture person, nothing wrong with the chicken, just my personal preference) but the meat was fantastic. I've been thinking about this place ever since. Their price points are what you would expect and for the quality, they could probably stand to charge more, I just wouldn't be able to afford it. I wish BBQ wasn't so expensive but I'm saving up for another visit because I will be back. I might even go back sooner, just for the coleslaw!

Finding proper Santa Maria BBQ is tough, and finding ones with good tri-tip is even tougher. This one is far from the best but it's certainly adequate, the tri-tip in particular is properly cooked but far short of brilliance-- and in an area with otherwise very little tri-tip, I'll take it! Ribs and chicken aren't bad either but again nothing about the food strikes me as anything memorable.

There is NO BETTER catering concern in Los Angeles than Santa Maria BBQ..! If you're a Company ( Church, Members Club, Corporation), or you just wish to entertain family and friends, you can't go wrong. Prices are competitive for this region and in many cases they're much lower. They also have grilled vegis and can accommodate the most picky or demanding palate.....

First time experience LAST TIME EXPERIENCE. The half rice half bean was so dry & Tasteless I threw it away the tri tip was tuff as leather. For $17.00 I paid I ONLY appreciate the can coke. Definitely save your $$$$. Santa Maria BBQ? Please stay there or is that why your here?👎👎👎👎💯💯💯💯👎

I'm not exaggerating when I say privilege. The staff is always so easy to work with and patient. We usually have events for 100+ and we never run out of food, even better we don't usually have a bunch of left overs to deal with (yes you get to keep them). I just called to book our holiday event for this year and they remembered me and our order, talk about customer service! We always opt for the on site cooking so our food is literally hot off the grill!

Marina Auto Body just used this catering company today for our company celebration and they were incredible. They cooked everything on site for us. The food was ready on time and Jon even cut the tri tip to our individual liking. Everything was sooo delicious!! The owner, Jim along with Jon and IIrene were super nice and friendly. Highly recommend this place! They have a variety of different options to choose from and they are very accommodating to your every need. Pretty sure their fumes are emitting emissions like carbon dioxide daily into nearby apartments where children and some elderly live. No bueno for health reasons. I get headaches everyday living next door to this place. Although I'm sure the food is good, peoples health are declining.
