The 18 Best Restaurants In Burbank

"Since 1956, this classic sub shop west of downtown has been serving excellent (and giant) sandwiches to the masses. You’re going to see a lot of fuss about their pastrami, but our order is always the Italian. It comes with salami, capicola, and provolone topped with more salt, pepper, oil, and onions than your coworkers within a 10-foot radius will be able to handle. And that’s a good thing." - brant cox

Google
5 Stars - A Must-Try Pastrami Powerhouse! Santoro’s Subs in Burbank absolutely blew me away! I came in for the pastrami sub and left wondering how I’ve lived this long without it. Perfectly seasoned, stacked high, and served hot—it’s hands down the best pastrami sandwich I’ve had. On top of that, the service was fast, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. It’s clear they care about both the food and the customer experience. If you’re anywhere near Burbank, this place is a no-brainer. I’ll be back (probably tomorrow).

Update 3-8-25 Devil’s Eyebrow: Delicious off menu Sandwich. This is a Meatball and Pastrami Sandwich. Meatball and cheese is at the bottom. Topped with Pastrami and Meatball sauce on top. We love it! Update 10-26-24 This is the Pastrami and Egg sandwich with cheese and extra mustard. It is fabulous! Look at it. The cheese is hot and stretchy. Santoro’s makes some combinations that are not on the menu and I wish to show some Golden Delicacies from Santoro’s. 9/15/24 Update The crew recommended the Italian Cold cuts and I can say there were 100% correct. Delicious. Update 9/6/24 It was 115 degrees in Burbank. It was too much to do anything in the kitchen. I wish to share how welcoming Jamal and Kayla were when I entered the door. It was hot and they are full of smiles and upbeat. I wanted to try a different sandwich. I am happy that I did try another. Here we have another wonderful Pastrami creation that Jamal made. Thanks Santoro’s Update 7/27/24 Another wonderful creation by Joe at Santoro’s. This is an absolutely delicious meatball sandwich with cheese. Santoro’s NEVER disappoints! Try it, You will love it. Update: 7-28-23 Wish to share a big Thank you to Joe, Carina and Max. I go to Santoro’s about once a week. I am greeted with a big Hello, a positive attitude and a line. Last Saturday, they ran out of bread. It is that busy on weekends. To Sal the owner: Big compliment for having an excellent crew. The line moves quickly and they always get my orders right. Thank you, Santoro’s! Santoro’s has been a golden staple in Burbank since 1956. It is because the sandwiches are delicious. Look at my Turkey sandwich. It is a work of art. I have tried just about every sandwich and can say that they are all excellent. I am a big fan of the oil and herb mixture that they add to the subs. I went in and has my sandwich within 5 minutes. The girls at the counter were friendly and welcomed me. There is only street parking but plenty of it. They do large subs for parties as well.

Google
Food was quite good, but i couldn't help but feel like I was spending more than I should for a sandwich. The pastrami sandwich that I had was flavorful and fairly unique in the sense that they chop their pickle and onion into something of a relish and add pepper/salt to that, which makes for a pretty interesting texture experience, Bravo for that, but even so, it feels bad spending almost 50 bucks on 2 sandwiches. My brain wants to be walking away with 3 or 4 sandwiches to justify that total cost. Note: wife had a turkey club. Pretty solid overall, but i definitely know that there are more satisfying sandwich shops/delis in the area selling sandwiches that are both more filling and a better value in terms of price.

Google
Wonderful authentic Submarine sandies. And the Owner is a kind soul. He brings trays of his hand made subs to our Church activities as a treat .we are so blessed and loved by the Generosity of this family. So delicious and such a blessing

Use to go here a long time ago, and decided I wanted a pastrami sub. When you first go unless you’ve been here recently it’s confusing what door to go to in order to get in the establishment. There isn’t signs stating what door to enter. At first I thought it was closed. When you walk in of course it looks like a deli, but definitely out dated. Of course nostalgia is great, but this place just needs some fresh paint maybe. Not very inviting. The girls behind the counter didn’t act like they wanted to be there. Not very congenial. No smiles. The pastrami sub I ordered was doused in mustard which took allot of flavor away from the pastrami. When I got to the other half of the sub I just ate the meat because too much mustard. The sub isn’t bad, but not a fav. They don’t use the best pastrami nor cheese. It’s very thin slices, stringy, peppery, and allot of fat. The pastrami is very dry and over cooked. I remember these being so much better years ago. The cheese is almost like plastic. Doesn’t really melt. Not really a fan anymore. For the price it’s reasonable.

Google
OK, I understand that what I got may not be what you should get at a sandwich shop. But still, I got the tuna salad sandwich because I love tuna. I figured it would be at least decent. It was probably the worst tuna salad I’ve ever had. They need to take the lettuce out of it first of all because all you taste is the lettuce and no tuna, and the lettuce gets soft. Anyways this place has a lot of good reviews so maybe I’ll have to try the other sandwiches. But the tuna is awful.

Google
Very good sandwiches! The pastrami is italian style, delicious! Pickles are really good. We had the meatball sandwich too, it was good but i I strongly recommend pastrami. Sandwichs are really big, the pictures are half of each. The place is nice, like an old deli and the people are amazing, so nice and friendly!!

Martin W.

Yelp
Got a pastrami sandwich. For the price there was very little pastrami. It was mostly bread and pickle tomato toppings. The sandwich needs more meat.

Yelp
I was in the area and decided to give it a try. The place has decent street parking all around. The staff is very friendly and quick. The sandwiches were good but it was too much pickles for my liking. If you're not a big fan of pickles, id say ask for little or no pickles. Ambiance is very casual and old school mom and pops store. Sandwiches are good and worth a try if you're in the area but nothing to die for. Id rate it 7.5/10. Overall go by and try it for yourself

Yelp
This is my go to Italian sandwich spot in the valley. If you find yourself close during business hours, be sure to stop by. This place does Italians pretty standardly and as far as I understand, they've been open since the 50s, which means that they have survived a recession as well as the pandemic. So it must be top-notch. Here's my prediction if you decide to patronize this establishment: You're gonna walk in and you're going to order an Italian sub, size large. You're going to grab a bag of chips and order a drink. There may be somebody in line with you to chat with, but once you get your food a few seconds later, you will either eat inside or outside on the sidewalk café. Your meal will be enjoyed on Burbank Boulevard. The interior very much reads "old-school standard sandwich shop. " You will enjoy it, and you will definitely come back.

Yelp
Me and my boyfriend got the pastrami and the pepper steak sub with whole pickle and pickle juice on the side. The service was great the ambiance and menu was straight forward. The food was bleh. It was tasteless and definitely needs more seasoning. It's definitely great for people with bland palettes that thinks black pepper is too spicy. But for people that like a more robust taste and "a must come back again" burst of flavor then just drive a bit more (about 0.7 mi away from this sandwhich shop) and go to Giamela's. The two stars were for the great service and cheerful customer service which was greatly appreciated.

Yelp
Great sandwiches, nice people and a sort of funky (definitely uncluttered) atmosphere. Those sandwiches are big, so be sure to bring you appetite!

Yelp
This place is awesome. Best sandwiches ever. Great great great that's all. I gotta say about this place.

Yelp
Have been eating at Santoro's since 1979, and can tell you, it has not changed in the quality of food. The Pepper Steak and Cheese, is what my family goes for, however, the cold cuts are very good as well. The service here, is very quick, but if it's lunch hour, you're going to have a little wait. The ambiance, is what you get for a Sandwich shop, it's not a gourmet sit down place. Whenever, we fly back into Burbank, our first stop is Santoro's. Say hello to Sal, and enjoy.
google avatar

Levon R.

Yelp
Service was great, The quality of meat in the sandwich was great, but I would skip out on the pickles, the amount, or change the type.

Yelp
Husband walked down the street to this place from the indoor playground our kids were at to grab some sandwiches to go. 1) Turkey deli meat and cheese sandwich - with no toppings -- kid loved this, just basic is the way to go 2) Pastrami sandwich with toppings to include chopped pickles tomato and onion. - decent and goes well with some potato salad

Yelp
After spending $4k at the vet nextdoor, I needed a fairly priced meal, so I stopped by since it was right there. It's a no frills shop, larger inside than you'd imagine, with counters around the walls for eating and a few tables outside on the sidewalk. Not much ambience, but that's not necessarily needed at a sub shop. The menu is quite sizable, but I knew I wanted a hot sub and do love me a peppered steak, so that's what I ordered and ended up getting to with everything on it. The service was super efficient and pleasant and I was ready to eat in no time. The large sub was a healthy-sized portion, so you're not leaving hungry. However, there really wasn't much flavor in any part. The bread was just bread with no essence of its own, the pepper was nice but the steak was mostly bland even with the loaded toppings. All-in-all, it filled me up and was just ok. I'd try the place again and go for the Italian sub and probably skip it being loaded.

Ren S.

Yelp
Everything here is delicious. This place is a classic, been around forever and is a teamster favorite. The pastrami with mustard and all the fixins become a craving after awhile. If you haven't ever been here I suggest you try it at least once! It's a Burbank institution

Yelp
When I lived in Burbank, I used to come to Santoro's. This is definitely an inexpensive sub shop. You cannot expect the best meats or cheeses at this place; so don't get your hopes up. For starters, I couldn't figure out what door to enter the establishment. I almost thought they were closed. A sign would probably be helpful. Service is fast and they are nice. However, a little bit more enthusiasm would've been great. The feel was if the employees didn't even wanna work. Not very inviting. The establishment somewhat has some nostalgic feel to it, but it definitely needs some paint. Of course it's a deli. I ordered the pastrami sub. Definitely not as good as what I remember them being. The meat is a very low grade meat as well as the cheese. The cheese really didn't even melt. The sub was doused in mustard, which was so unappealing. Of course pastrami gets mustard on it but not the whole container. I believe there was more pickles, tomatoes, and onions then even meat. I couldn't even finish the other half of the sub. I basically just picked at the meat. If you want a reasonably priced sub with no expectations...

Yelp
Let's just cut to the proverbial chase, shall we? After years of Subway, Firehouse, Jersey Mike's subs, isn't it lovely to have an actual sub, a real honest-to-goodness non-fast food sub? I've been meaning to try Santoro's for ages and two days ago was the day. I ordered via DoorDash - the Italian or whatever it's called - salami, capicola, etc. It arrived thirty minutes later and looked like a real honest-to-goodness sub. Yes, there is not a ton of meat and next time I might double it, but there was plenty to fill me up. The seasoning was great, the tomatoes and onions are fantastic, the bread was fresh as can be and what a taste treat it was. Anyone who leaves this jernt two or three stars doesn't really know from subs, IMO. I ordered with high expectations and those Great Expectations were met. I'll be making this a regular take out thing for me from now on. Done with the fast-food stuff. THIS is a submarine, baby, and I know from submarines. Captain Nemo knew from submarines, too, and he would love this place. I even took a photograph - a Yelp Elite first for me.

Dee-Dee B.

Yelp
Very delicious.. i was mostly a Giamelas fan growing up in Burbank. But they are very similar. Got the Turkey sub, it was good..Love all the chopped veggies and the bread they use. It definitely is not your standard Sub sandwich (like Subway or Jersey Mikes). Try it if you want something better!

Yelp
Love Santoro's best subs and best staff. Love walking in and seeing a big smile on sals face. My go too is an Italian cold cut been eating it for 20 years and nothings changed!

Yelp
My first time here by! FRIENDLY people and told us what the best sellers were in a hot and cold sub, and we picked the Italian with everything!! Super good and fresh! Perfect for the summer with a root beer! Plenty of street parking! Coming back!!!

Yelp
Great service. Placed the order on the app and it was ready right on time. The pepper steak was hot through the bag so I know that they just made it. Not very crowded inside, as my pickup time was shortly before closing and after the dinner rush. The store was very clean like always. Sandwiches were delicious. Can't wait to come back!

Steve M.

Yelp
There best kept secret and very hard to find is their AMAZING! Chicken salad. Out of all their fantastic sandwiches this is definitely my favorite!! Quality is fresh and the prices are fair. They always get it right for DELIVERY$$ Well organized staff :)

Yelp
Not to be too mean, but this was the worst sub I've ever had. I ordered the small pepper steaks sub and potato salad. To start off with the sub, the bread was very bad. The bread was very soggy and had no bite integrity at all. The steak itself was incredibly underseasoned. To add on, the meat was criminally dry. The sub in general was very dry. The toppings did the sub no good. It was just a very bland and boring sub. Nothing to rave about. I was unable to finish the sandwich. If I had to give this place a tip, maybe season your onions and your meat. The potato salad was good, but honestly just tasted storebought. The quality of the food was very poor. Low-quality bread, and most importantly quality meat. Again, the potato salad just tasted store-bought. The presentation is just average. Standard-wrapped sub and regularly packaged potato salad. Though, at first glance, the sub does look really appetizing. It sucks how when biting into it ruins it. The portion to price is honestly not bad, but also not worth it. It's a hefty sub for a decent price, but again it does not taste good. The service was alright. The staff was friendly and welcoming. Nothing too over the top in terms of customer service. The food came out at an average pace. The ambiance is very antique. I oddly liked the vibe. It gives you the vibe of an old sub shop. The place was semi-clean. Being in there had the feeling of just being dusty. The parking was alright, it's just street parking. Did not enjoy my sub here. There are better sub places in the area.

Yelp
This place is a classic Burbank spot so I had to stop by. Came by Santoro's to grab a quick dinner and got the Italian sandwich. We used to get Santoro's at our high school events so I was somewhat familiar. Other than having a little too much pickle on the sandwich, it was overall pretty solid. I'd come back to try another one for sure.

Yelp
Best sub in Burbank! Meatball with cheese, Italian & roasted turkey with cheese- you can't go wrong!

Yelp
They are Kmart of sandwiches....absolute dog shit service...no class and food is even worse...

Yelp
Santoro's for an early dinner was the call.... It had been many many years since I had been here last. What I remember most from my sub then and eating at the tables outside where the crazy amount of tomatoes and onions you get on top of your order. I liken in to a side salad... HA! It was so much. My buddy who has lived in Burbank all his life first took me to Santoro's those many years ago. Fast forward to September 2022 and it was finally time to take my lady so she can try it. We were there around 7pm and only a BPD officer was there picking up his order before us. I went with a hot pastrami no pickles, added mustard. All subs come with tomato, onions, pickles, salt, oil and oregano. Mayo and mustard are by request. The pastrami sub was good. Bread was great. It was firm but soft in the inside. The hot pastrami tasted real good. Next time I will go with just a bare bones order and not include tomatoes or salt, pepper and oregano. I usually like a pastrami sandwich more on the plain side so I can taste the flavor of the slices fully. I got the large which is now $12.50... Not cheap but I would say it was worth it. My lady got the italian which has molinari italian salami, cappicola and provolone. She liked her order a lot and for sure would go back to Santoro's again. Another satisfied customer of this Burbank tried & true joint. Street parking for us. I think the parking lot after the business to the left of Santoro's is for the animal hospital.

Becky L.

Yelp
The best sub sandwich places I've ever eaten at. I've been going since 2000. Doesn't get any better than by favorite Large roast beef

Yelp
I love this place a true Burbank institution that makes a classic sandwich! I recommend the pastrami but you can't go wrong great burbank sandwich!
google avatar

Alex J.

Yelp
I really wanted more out of this place and I'm not sure what to think of a deli who makes better cannolis and potato salad than the sandwiches themself. But at the end of the day, my sandwich was just average and I wouldn't go out of my way for another one. When I stopped by there were two people finishing up orders ahead of me so the young girl working made my order right away when it was my turn. I ordered the small pastrami with cheese and the works, potato salad and a cannoli coming to about $22. I hope I wasn't charged for the cheese because I wasn't given a receipt and my sandwich didn't have cheese. The bread was no big deal, and started falling apart right away as I ate. The pastrami was lean and not greasy which I liked but it didn't really "wow" me. The salad on top was also over loaded with oregano so that's all I could taste. I didn't really leave with a sense of satisfaction solely from the flavoring, but the sandwich was good size so it filled me up. The potato salad was great, a really solid version with a slight mustardy kick. The cannoli was actually fantastic. A light and crispy shell filled all the way through with the lightly sweetened cream and plenty of chocolate chips. I won't mind coming back for the cannoli's but the sandwich leaves a lot to wonder.

Yelp
Have been a patron of Santoro's for decades, just went back for the first time in a long time. Got the Pastrami sandwich and it tastes just as good as I remember! They give you a lot of meat and then they pile on the onions, tomatoes and pickles. Yummy! The service was quick and easy, and the person who made my sandwich gave just enough customer service, but not too much. Ha. Just basic service. Stop by, you won't be disappointed.
google avatar

John Ray L.

Yelp
Love the simplicity of the sandwiches here! I personally am a fan of the pickle, tomato and onion side. It comes out more like a pico de gallo, but for sandwiches! I love there Italian as it's my go to. The pastrami is good here as well! Great community Sandwhich shop!
google avatar

Yelp
Love this place. Great fresh sandwiches. Large selection. Never forget their phone number when you want to order in advance 818-848-8888. Simple and easy.

Yelp
The food is amazing and the staff is just as amazing. Service is quick and always gets your correctly. Hot Pastrami is to die for. My neighbors love when I surprise them with sandwiched.

Yelp
The place rules. Quality is fantastic, service is great. I don't order the sides because they seemed the same as supermarket - not that that is a bad thing just nothing special. The only thing I would change is that when I've ordered extra meat on anything it didn't really seem like there ever has been anything extra which is a bummer. That said, this is my favorite sandwich shop. I've had the meatball, pastrami, pepper steak and the Italian. They are all fantastic and my go-to is the italian. Portions are big, ingredients great. The relish on the sandwiches is really really great.

Joshua A.

Yelp
Interesting choice of sandwich assembly. I felt like I was eating a Chicago hot dog all the onions, tomatoes pickles were falling out because it was placed on the sandwich like a hotdog. The meat went down first then the cheese, and then all the slippery toppings like pickles and onions, diced up, replace on top of it so as I grab that they were all just falling out the back side of the sandwich, good flavor or just an interesting way to assemble a sandwich also, I'm not sure if I've ever had a sub sandwich without lettuce maybe it's an Italian thing I know in Italy they don't use lettuce that often but in an American Italian deli, I would expect there to be lettuce all around OK experience.

Bill H.

Yelp
First came to the original location in 1962! The sub's made today are virtually unchanged. Love the food here and have never been disappointed. In my opinion, the ingredients are consistently top quality and the service is fast. Big thanks to the owner and staff for keeping this Burbank institution alive and thriving.
google avatar

Angie O.

Yelp
Quick trip home to Burbank. Always gotta stop by this local gem. Childhood memories of grabbing cold cut subs and potato salad for picnics and sandwiches with cactus cooler after school. Service is always always on point very friendly and just the Burbank home vibe. My go to is the cold cut sandwich large with everything on it and a side of potato salad. Always always the best and consistently delicious for decades. This local spot is truly a spot everyone should hit up.

Yelp
This is the second-best sub shop in all of California, in my humble opinion. It is second only to their cross town rivals, Giamela's. And to me it is so close, I rate Giamela's a 5.0 and Santoro's a 4.999. They have an amazing pepper steak sub that you have to try. The rest of their sandwiches are outstanding, but your first sub here has to be the pepper steak. I have been eating subs here for the past 45 years and have never been disappointed. I also love their giant dill pickles and always get one to compliment whatever sandwich I am enjoying. They are very reasonably priced. The inside has limited seating, and there are only a few tables in the front. It is probably easier to plan on getting your sub to go and eat it at a local park. Either way, you will not be disappointed.

James S.

Yelp
I've been going there for 50 years. All of their sandwiches are awesome. I love the onions, pickles and tomato, plus the chili peppers with my hot pastrami or pepper steak or Italian..
google avatar

Rick S.

Yelp
Best subs in Burbank hands down. The pickles and onions they put on top make this a truly unique experience. Not much more to say, but I can't wait to go back.
google avatar

Peter G.

Yelp
One of the best Italian cold cuts I've ever had. No nonsense classic with their deli fresh meats... Italian salami, molinari, cappicola, and Wisconsin provolone cheese. Topped with cubed chunks of pickles, tomatoes, and onions, oil, salt, pepper & oregano. All stacked high on a huge, freshly baked hoagie. I mean... you better aksk somebody. There's lots of other hot and cold sammich options, too. If you go for lunch, try to be there by 11:30, cuz a line quickly forms out the door. Service is friendly and efficient, but also intense. They're barking at you Welcome! when you come in, and NEEXT! How can I help you!? as you hit front of line. Best be ready with your order :)
google avatar

Marc ..

Yelp
I have been enjoying Santorros Subs for over 20 years. This was my favorite sub shop in Burbank. Unfortunately, I will not be returning. I usually purchase a large Turkey or pastrami sun with chips and drink for a grand total of almost $20.00 bucks each time. Over the last 2 weeks I've gone to Santoros 3-4 times. Each time they used about 40% less meat than before. I will never return. It appears that they might be looking to increase profits at the customers expense. I will never return. I'm good with an owner making an honest profit for a good product, but this is now a shell of what it used to be. From now on I will be going to Giamelas.

Yelp
For the family I grabbed us all some sandwiches. I was welcomed as I walked in, there was a nice selection and It was all delicious! I ordered to go and it was all packaged nicely.
google avatar

Mike K.

Yelp
I put their pastrami up against anyone and I've tried a few! The staff has a wonderful family vibe that always has me smiling when I leave.

Elsie C.

Yelp
A good solid sub. I absolutely love the pickle, onion and tomato mix that is put on top and could honestly eat a sub just filled with this. The bread is also really good.

Ann N.

Yelp
Came here with a friend who suggested this place. I am now in love. I got the Italian and it was great - best pickles I've ever had on a sandwich. Would come here again for them alone! Service was pretty quick and we sat outside to enjoy our sandwiches. Looking forward to coming again!

Steven Z.

Yelp
This place has so much hype and it has been in Burbank for so long I really can't wrap my head around it. The service was okay they were pretty friendly but honestly the sandwiches are not good. I'm not exaggerating at all when I tell you the bread tastes like nothing. Literally it's like a fugazi Phantom bread I don't understand why anybody would choose this place over giamela's or even Subway or Jersey Mike's for the matter. The bread lacks rustic substance flavor and structure. It literally felt like I bit into air and really peppered pastrami I won't ever give this place my money again. Giamela's is 10 times this place 10 times bigger 10 times tastier more reasonably priced and 10 times more roof rustic do better guys
google avatar

Carl R.

Yelp
This place has always been the best! Santoro's Pastrami sandwiches have always been this best until they started reducing the amount of meat. It makes me think this is their way to save money.
google avatar

Allen K.

Yelp
I got the tuna sandwich from here the other day, and it was not satisfying. It really had no taste at all. I don't know how a place can mess up a tuna sandwich, but it tasted like water, onion, and pickles. Never again. To expensive

Yelp
@Sal - I dig the look and feel of the place and had high hopes being from the East Coast originally. But I was let down for sure. I was excited by how busy and the reviews, but accuracy on the orders is a big part. To start you should keep in mind many menu websites have your wrong menu which caused some confusing at our office. http://places.singleplatform.com/santoros-10/menu?ref=google for example. Parking is how you say...not easy, but I can get over that. So I put my order in for a large turkey and ask for lettuce and I get this crazy look back at me like we don't serve lettuce why would you ever want lettuce on a Sub sandwich. To each there own but my confidence dropped in how good this sub sandwich was going to be about 50% as soon as I heard they. So I know I'm weird, but I despise mayo and mustard on my subs. Like I made it very clear I wanted it dry with just meet, cheese and onion. Love a staff that can memorize a bunch of orders, but if they can't, Maybe have people right down the orders so they don't get it wrong. Anyway opened my sub up at work when I got back and coated in mayo and mustard. At least I salvaged it and didn't get as many bread carbs for this meal. I will say amazing bread, or at least crust since I had to dig out the center of the bread. I do think your pastrami looked awesome and may come back to try it, but so help me if they put mayo and mustard on it. All in 2 of 5.

Yelp
More like 2.5 stars. I'd been coming here for years and never been disappointed by the sandwiches. Due to construction in Burbank I didn't come for about a year. When I went today I was really disappointed with what I got: a stingy sandwich which was mostly bread, not at all like it used to be. The service is still friendly and all but if is this is what they're dishing up now I'll save time and get a better sandwich at Giamela's in Atwater. Too bad.
