"Kansas is decidedly landlocked, but that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t have some top-rate sushi restaurants serving fresh fish. The best sushi in Wichita can be found at Sapporo Japanese Restaurant, which is tucked away at a strip center near one of the city’s busiest intersections. Family-owned Sapporo offers a big menu of sushi rolls, hand rolls, sashimi, and hot entrees, including teriyaki and katsu. Splurge, if you can, on Sapporo’s giant Love Boat, a wooden boat filled with two rolls, six pieces of sushi, and 10 pieces of sashimi chosen by the chef." - Denise Neil

Google
Best Sushi in Wichita. They have specialty rolls not found in the other local spots. I normally don’t enjoy baked rolls but they smoke the roll right in front of you and it actually adds a nice hickory flavor to the roll. The customer service is also so good. I can’t recommend this place enough. They exceeded expectations and are the best sushi in town.

During a recent visit to Sapporo Japanese Sushi Restaurant in Wichita, Kansas, I had the pleasure of sampling several dishes: seaweed salad, miso soup, crab Rangoon, and the dragon roll. Each offering showcased the restaurant's commitment to authentic Japanese cuisine and left a lasting impression. Seaweed Salad The meal commenced with a refreshing seaweed salad. The vibrant green seaweed was delicately seasoned, offering a harmonious blend of sweet and tangy flavors. The subtle crunch of the seaweed, combined with a light sesame dressing, made for a delightful appetizer that awakened the palate without overwhelming it. Miso Soup Following the salad, the miso soup was served warm and comforting. The broth was rich and savory, infused with the distinct taste of fermented soybeans. Soft tofu cubes and fresh scallions floated within, adding texture and a mild onion-like flavor. This traditional soup provided a soothing interlude before the more robust dishes that followed. Crab Rangoon The crab Rangoon at Sapporo was a delightful twist on a classic. Crispy wonton wrappers encased a creamy mixture of crab meat and cream cheese, fried to golden perfection. The exterior offered a satisfying crunch, while the interior was rich and flavorful. Paired with a sweet and sour dipping sauce, each bite was a harmonious blend of textures and tastes. Dragon Roll The highlight of the meal was undoubtedly the dragon roll. This visually stunning sushi roll featured a combination of tempura shrimp and cucumber, wrapped in seasoned rice and nori. The roll was then artfully topped with thin slices of avocado and eel, drizzled with a sweet eel sauce. The interplay of crispy tempura, creamy avocado, and savory eel created a complex and satisfying flavor profile. The presentation was equally impressive, resembling a dragon, which added an element of artistry to the dining experience. Ambiance and Service Sapporo offers a warm and inviting atmosphere, with a decor that reflects traditional Japanese aesthetics. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable, providing prompt service and insightful recommendations. The restaurant's commitment to quality and authenticity is evident not only in its cuisine but also in its overall dining experience. Conclusion My experience at Sapporo Japanese Sushi Restaurant was exceptional. Each dish was thoughtfully prepared, highlighting fresh ingredients and traditional flavors. Whether you're a sushi enthusiast or new to Japanese cuisine, Sapporo offers a diverse menu that caters to a variety of palates. I look forward to returning and exploring more of their culinary offerings.

Google
The speciality rolls are so finely made! I haven't had sushi in so long and I'm so glad I stopped in. Presentation was one of the best I've seen and not being a big fan of spicy it was perfectly balanced in the rolls I ordered. Will come again.

Google
First time at Sapporo and we will surely go back again. The service started off a bit slow but they did well overall. The staff members were friendly and attentive. The food was fantastic. The presentation was very appealing to our palette. The taste was delicious. Highly recommend this place for a satisfying Japanese meal. The place was clean and spacious. Will visit again soon.

Google
The food is perfect! My only complaint is there were 4 of us and we each had to wait quite a while for our food. Then the food came at different times….. one person received their food.. wait 10 more minutes, then another so on and so on…

Google
Came here for a gals night out. Really fantastic sushi. Nice ambience. Good service. Way too many interesting options on the menu though. So many rolls and only one stomach. I'll have to come back!

Yelp
This place is amazing. It is neatly nestled off in a quiet neighborhood. If you don't know it's there you might miss it. The food is fresh and tasty. It is actually some of the best sushi I have had in the United States. If you have someone with you, who doesn't care for or doesn't desire sushi at that time, they have several other selections. The service is great, and the people there are very friendly. This is definitely one of my regular go to spots for sushi! I have had friends with me who chose other elections and they were delighted as well

Kevin M.

Yelp
Good sushi and friendly staff. This is our go to spot in Wichita. Only feedback is to stay away from the Toro if you're looking for true chutoro or otoro. The toro did not have much fat and was very sinewy and tough. The picture in my review is what I got when I ordered toro and based on feedback from an online sushi community that knows more than me it sounds like that would hardly pass for chutoro (medium fatty tuna) if at all. Would still recommend though.

Yelp
From the moment I stepped into the restaurant, it was a welcoming atmosphere. I liked how it was dimmed lighting. The staff was incredibly accommodating, going above and beyond to customize my sushi rolls to my exact preferences. Each bite was a testament to the freshness and quality of the ingredients, with generous portions that left me both satisfied and impressed. However, there was one dish that didn't quite hit the mark for me--the kani salad. While I appreciated the attempt at a classic, the salad was overly sauced, and I found myself wishing for thinly sliced cucumbers rather than the chunky pieces served. Despite this, the overall experience was elevated by the attentive and efficient service, ensuring that my dining experience was nothing short of exceptional.

Yelp
2nd day in Wichita and wanted to have japanese food for lunch. While grocery shopping, I placed our order online and pick up would be ready in 45mins. we were just about 5 mins away so we took our time in picking it up. Upon getting at the restaurant the food wasn't ready yet. I had to wait for about 10 mins and had to be patient as their place was packed. This tells me their food must be really good. I ordered 3 special rolls (and cannot remember what they were) and was more than enough for 2. I was satisfied with how they packed it, but most of all we were satisfied with the taste.

Mike A.

Yelp
My last sushi experience in the area was not that great. So while staying at the Marriott close by, I asked the shuttle driver for a recommendation. He said that this place seems to get decent reviews from hotel patrons. Food: Fairly priced and for the area, a lot better than expected. Large variety of rolls and other options. Everything ordered was very good. Service: A bit slow, but adequate. If you are in the area, definitely worth stopping by.

Chantel A.

Yelp
Good for its price.. restaurant is clean even their bathroom, staff is very nice. Food is good, they can add a little bit more umami on their udon. My son said it doesn't taste that good. Anyways good experience.

Gerald S.

Yelp
Normally Sushi and Wichita don't go together. However, this Sushi restaurant is terrific.

Marlin E.

Yelp
Very good neighborhood restaurant. The food came out quickly and was very good. Generous portions at a reasonable price. Will definitely come back when I'm in the area.

Kylee G.

Yelp
My favorite sushi in Wichita!! They also have great chicken teriyaki and it's a good portion size. I've always had great service here as well.

Sandi B.

Yelp
We had sushi and got a for an app. Everything was fresh and the restaurant was clean and updated inside. The service was friendly and the atmosphere was casual.

Jackson A.

Yelp
The food is wonderful but it's kinda expensive but the quality was high on the food definitely recommend I think we got a free dish of something

Monae M.

Yelp
My favorite sushi place in Wichita! The Mr crab appetizer is a must. Regardless of what other roll I order, I always get the summer roll. It's a smaller portioned roll with a very light & refreshing flavor. They have a wide selection of maki for me, as well as some non-sushi options for my husband.

Christina T.

Yelp
Service 10/10 Good 10/10 Drinks 10/10 Cleanliness 10/10 *not pictured was a Long Island ice tea is was ‍ so good! *

Kristyn S.

Yelp
The best sushi restaurant in Wichita, in my opinion. I really enjoy Bluefin, Ninza, and Wasabi but I find that Sapporo is an overall a better experience and higher quality. The prices are similar to the others but their lunch specials are superior! Highly recommend the Sashimi Lunch and the gyoza appetizer as those were my favorites. The only thing I don't love from this restaurant is their miso soup.

Kenny B.

Yelp
Excellent service, very authentic and delicious pad Thai and nice clean restaurant! 10 out of 10.

Ben C.

Yelp
Great service, great food. Took the family (with 8yo and 10yo daughters), and we all got 2 sushi rolls each, which ended up being quite a variety. We really liked them all - but the Angel Roll was the clear winner. Prices were reasonable - a little less than our previous favorite sushi restaurant, but now Sapporo is our new go-to for sushi. Atmosphere is OK, but I'm not particularly fond of sitting in a table out in the middle of the floor, but it wasn't a deal-breaker. The server was amazing - she came by many times and made sure our drinks were filled and our requests were met quickly. We plan on going back often.

Yelp
The sushi rolls here are great !!! Taste excellent and fresh... I had a rainbow roll and it was simply great! I'm eating here twice in a row... no reason to go looking at another place when their food is delicious!!! I also had hamachi sushi and it was as flavorful as I've had it anywhere. The service was great, they came around often to see how food was or if another drink was needed. The ambiance is a bit plain, maybe a few more pictures of Japan or a mural would help?! But more importantly it was clean and functional and a great place to get delicious sushi!

Kim W.

Yelp
My friend suggested this place and I was craving sushi and I was not disappointed. The place was clean, bright with bar seating , table seating and booths. When I initially arrived, there was only table seating available but soon after a booth was available and asked to be moved to the booth. They were very accommodating. My friend is currently pregnant so we were pleasantly surprised to see updated menus that were very specific on which rolls were cooked or raw. We started with gyoza (we were famished so we ordered an appetizer) and they were very tasty. I've also heard good things about their calamari but haven't tried it myself. The gyoza were perfect and came with six pieces. We ordered four rolls for the three of us and that seemed enough. Dragon roll: different than what I've had before - no shrimp tempura - but still had my delicious unagi. 4/5 Peachtree roll: we all agreed this one was the star of the night. It was sweet and savory with a bit of spice. There was something about it that was so delicious and stood out. 5/5 Spider roll: usually a standard favorite but seemed to be missing something and we decided it was missing avocado and sprouts. There was only cucumber with the soft shell crab which threw off some of the textures. It was still good though. 4/5 Philadelphia roll: I'm not a huge fan of adding cream cheese to rolls but since it was my friend's husband's favorite, I was open to ordering it. It came with eight pieces and was a fresh roll that seemed standard. For me, 3/5. I would definitely recommend this place for its reasonable prices and delicious rolls. They have other entrees too if your party doesn't like sushi.

Ryan K.

Yelp
The sushi was fresh and well made. I am definitely going to order from here again. Try to "Heart" roll. YUM!!!

Amy S.

Yelp
Best place in town for sushi! I absolutely love going for lunch. The staff is so kind and it's a great environment!

Wayne C.

Yelp
I spent the week in Wichita for some training. I ate here twice during the week because their food was tasteful, authentic, and filling. I first had their Udon Noodles with shrimp and vegetables tempura. I came back later in the week and tried the Salmon Teriaki dinner. Two large size salmon filets cooked over a bed of sautéed vegetables smothered in a tasteful but Lite teriyaki sauce/glaze. And of course a large portion of steamed rice. Their beer selection is a typical Japanese beer menu with a Blue Moon thrown in. The atmosphere is pleasant along with their customer service. This place is a nice find in Wichita. I highly recommend you try Sopporo'sI Japanese Restaurant.

Kia And Travis M.

Yelp
Food was good and service was as well. I sat at the bar and had a glass of house white wine and an appetizer and single roll. The lily's at the bar were extremely fragrant and gave me a small headache but they were pretty. Total before too was $36.62. The appetizer was the yellowtail jalapeno and it was really good. The crazy tuna roll was ok. Not a fan of the wasabi sauce on it. It was a cute little place on the back of a strip mall.

juanita R.

Yelp
This is my new favorite sushi restaurant! I can't believe that I didn't discover this place before! I am a west sider and I have made it a point to drive out east just to get this sushi! The rolls that I've had are fresh tasting and very unique, unlike a few of the other sushi restaurants that offer the same rolls. The menu is enormous and offers fresh rolls, cooked rolls, cocktails, appetizers, rice and noodles and lots more! My current favorite rolls are the Sweetheart Roll and the Sapporo Roll! Both raw rolls with the freshest of ingredients in them and VERY TASTY! The service that we receive each time we've been has been excellent! The seating area is good, as I didn't feel too close to anyone when seated. The overall ambiance of the restaurant is perfect for a date night, a girls night or a regular lunch or dinner spot.

Bryan L.

Yelp
This is a fantastic restaurant. Nice atmosphere, good service and fantastic sushi! I recommend this place for anyone wishing for a very nice Japanese dining experience!

Kristina T.

Yelp
Food was pretty good but a little pricey. Just a heads up, they charge 50 cents for some sriracha. Probably due to the sriracha shortage but I would have like to have been informed first that there's a charge.

Steve D.

Yelp
We enjoyed a nice sushi stop while visiting WSU last week. I ordered an eel bowl and salmon nigiri. The salmon was amazing, fresh and the perfect temperature. It had that body temp feel so it melted as it it touched your tongue. The eel bowl was good but they did a fancy presentation of the eel layer on a leaf with a little fake tree and a serving of rice next to it. It looked nice but I expected a traditional bowl of rice with eel on it.

Kim W.

Yelp
The owners of Sapparo are the same owners of Sake that was on West 21st Street. I recommend going during lunch time to get the lunch special; 2 simple rolls for $8.95 with a bowl of miso soup. My favorite roll was the Kellogg Roll and of course the reason why I was eager to go, is all because of the the Baked Scallop roll . The creaminess of the spicy mayo with the perfectly charred scallop on top was just as tasty I have remembered. We had a sushi boat, which was exciting to me since I've never had one! The presentation of the food looks great and works well with the ambiance. I've been several times since it's opened and the service is hit or miss. Weekends are especially a struggle for them and may need to consider adding a few extra sushi chefs. The recent Yelp reviews reflect this and we've become a Hangry society, which doesn't help anyone. The prices are similar to other sushi places in Wichita, however I feel the quality is better than most. Definitely one my top 3 sushi restaurants in ICT.

Steven B.

Yelp
Outstanding! Avocado salad, crispy fresh lettuce with fabulous ginger sauce. Sapporo roll house specialty to die- try it. Great service - Return today this place still great. Calamari just so/so however. Sapporo roll great again, watch out for too much wasabi- thought I was careful. Guess not - My partner had Philli roll if you like smoked salmon. This place is authentic sushi. Still 5 stars!

Ed H.

Yelp
The Sashimi is really great and the rolls are large. Ambiance is nothing spectacular which is why it only gets 4 and not 5 stars.

Devon B.

Yelp
Best and freshest sushi hands down! Fresh salad and yummy ginger dressing with lunch special!

Katie P.

Yelp
Best sushi in town hands down. Even after trips to New York City etc. I come back here and am blown away with how well the sashimi is cut, how great the prices are and the staff is awesome.

Derrick G.

Yelp
Sapporo is a great place for a sushi lunch. There lunch special for sushi is 2 rolls for $8.95. This is very affordable and delicious if you are craving sushi for lunch. I have only dined at Sapporo's for lunch, so I cannot comment on their dinner menu. The lunch also comes with miso soup. The restaurant does a great job with social distancing and cleanliness. I recommend the spicy crab roll from the lunch menu. The service was a little slow, but overall a great experience.

Alisa L.

Yelp
THIS IS THE BEST SUSHI PLACE IN TOWN. Hands down, the fish is always fresh, service is amazing. I love everything about this place. The ambiance is relaxing & really well decorated. I come here at least 2x a month.

Rick B.

Yelp
Lunch Sushi was awesome. Two rolls. Very fresh. Came with miso soup. Never been a favorite but was good. Restaurant a bit bland and strange in some ways but had really neat individual seating areas for groups.

Katrice B.

Yelp
My son and I come here all the time! The service is great, restrooms clean, food is super delicious, and we try different items every time. This is the only place we will go for Sushi in Wichita, KS. You can't go wrong with any item of the menu. You just have to try something new each time you visit and this way you will gain your favorites. Believe it or not I make a list so that we can forget what we've tried and which rolls we thoroughly enjoy. The Pad Thai is super delicious too. It has asparagus in it and for me that was new the first time I tried it but I love asparagus. You can always ask no asparagus if you like. Keep up the great work and we will be returning! October 2019- Celebrated my sons birthday here and it was Great! This is the first place I knew he would like to celebrate his 13th birthday and we had a blast. We order: Fuji Roll, Old Town Roll, Sapporo Roll, and Shrimp Fried Rice! I know I'm missing like two other rolls! But needless to say he ended with a birthday dessert and he loved it. The dessert was brought out with a candle on top. The employees went over and beyond for my son! We are faithful customers and will continue to be! Thanks for making my sons birthday even more special

Matt B.

Yelp
Not a very selective menu., It looks big, but it's The same aid ingredients just moved around, Sat at the bar, Cook never acknowledge me. I'll be going back to the place named after that green stuff.

Tina N.

Yelp
Hands down best sushi in town! Authentic flavor and always fresh. Their bento boxes are great

Pua A.

Yelp
Best sushi in Wichita! Great menu selection. I'm from Hawaii and this is the closest restaurant to fresh sushi and sashimi I've had. So good!

Bob S.

Yelp
Each time I go in the staff is awesome and the food is really good. Love the lunch special of two rolls and salad. Would recommend.

Mahi T.

Yelp
Nice place, much better looking from inside. Great food. I had the sashimi plate, which I absolutely enjoyed. It tasted fresh, and the portions were good too. My husband had the pad thai, which tasted good as well. The girl at the front desk was a bit rude, but all in all, we had a great experience. I would definitely return.

Laramie W.

Yelp
6 bites of sashimi, 1 cup of soup and 1 drink...$51 out the door. Ridiculous. The sashimi I ordered was cut into the biggest cubes I've ever seen. Almost inedible the bites were so big. The salmon was good. The white tuna and fatty tuna were disgusting. The fatty tuna was extremely fishy and hard to chew when not should almost melt in your mouth. I ordered clear soup which is just beef and chicken broth. Nothing special. I should've known better than to stray from Wasabi East which is the best sushi in town.

Sarah J.

Yelp
Used to love this place. But last few times we went there it was not as good We came at 2:17, knowing what we wanted and they wouldn't let us order because it closes at 2:30 pm be aware of the new hours.

Scott P.

Yelp
Four years later - I'm still a fan. They've expanded , but the service and food remains great.

Leah Phuong D.

Yelp
Not bad. Spacious. Quiet. Good service. Maybe too good. She checked up on us a lot, which was fine, haha. You go girl. Their plating and presentation was almost over the top but I applaud the effort! We got a sashimi dinner (basically a bowl!) and 2 rolls (Kellogg which is misspelled on accident to Kollogg and the Angel). We also got calamari to start off with. Calamari - yum. I love the amount of crisp it has. The dipping sauce was good too. I ate too much. I think I spoiled my main entree. Kellogg and Angel - not anything bad to say. I enjoyed it. It wasn't the best in the world but it was still good. One had cream cheese and so maybe after a few pieces, I started to get tired of it. Sashimi dinner - I didn't eat this at all. But it was a huge serving was apparently good. Can't say much about this. Overall, it was a good experience. I'm not from the area so I can't compare or recommend "the best sushi" in town yet! Keep it up.

Jennifer S.

Yelp
I had lunch at Sapporo and I ordered the chicken bento box and my hubby ordered the sushi and sashimi special. The server was efficient and friendly. The restaurant is a cute place. The lunch was tasty, quick and affordable. We will return again!

JJ E.

Yelp
Atmosphere: Sleek, modern, and clean interior. Exterior is dingy strip mall. Service: Could use work. Food and Presentation: Excellent! Best sushi presentation in town. Tasty food! See pics!

Trent M.

Yelp
Hands down best sushi in Wichita, and I really have eaten at most in town. From sushi boats, specialty or standard rolls, nigiri, soups, noodles, bento, I'm yet to be disappointed or have anything "average". The seaweed rolls feel like they have thinner seaweed than most, which is great if you want it to just do it's job without distracting from the flavor of the fish. It sounds silly but this is one of the biggest distinguishing features compared to everywhere else in Wichita, as well as many more expensive sushi bars abroad. Decorations are on point so even the classic no frills spicy tuna roll feels special. If you get a chance to talk with the staff they're hilarious, and take their craft seriously. More than anything else about Sapporo, that's what I love. I know I'm eating food prepared by somebody who genuinely enjoys what they do.

Bryan F.

Yelp
Best sushi in town. Yes, we've tried everywhere else, just so we could confidently say Sapporo is the best.

Micha M.

Yelp
Food and service was fantastic! This is going to be our new sushi spot! We ordered the sashimi dinner and spicy roll combo, so good!!
