I came in during the ole "blizzard of 2026" and they had full staff in here just putting in the work. What a great atmosphere. The gent behind the bar recommended the pico salmon specialty roll, solid choice!!! Their spicy salmon and basic rolls hit too... I wrapped up with the spicy tonkonsu ramen and it did not disappoint for the main course, then ended with the matcha churros. Absolutely, incredible. I definitely recommend this spot and will be back soon for the rest of the menu. Enjoy!

I ordered my food to go so I can't really give much on the in person service, but the hostess as well as another server who acknowledged me, at the front desk were very nice and helpful. I ordered sashimi and chirashi dishes, which I've had dozens of times from other places. This wasn't the best. Their other dishes might be good, but unfortunately not what I ordered. I would still be willing to go back and give them another try, especially based on the kindness of the staff.

Such a cute place, so well designed. Sushi lunch special of three rolls was served with a fresh big salad. The portion was large enough to share and the fish was extremely fresh. The staff was super friendly and consistently checking on us. They also have a happy hour.

SAPP’s absolutely deserves a perfect 5/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐—the service was smooth, professional, and handled with real care from start to finish. Everything was explained clearly, the process was efficient, and it genuinely felt like they had the customer’s best interest in mind. The food was just as impressive, with incredibly fresh sushi and amazing kitchen dishes like rich, flavorful ramen and other delicious Japanese favorites that were clearly made with quality and care. On top of that, our servers Regine and Sally were outstanding—friendly, attentive, and always on point. Their positive energy and professionalism truly elevated the experience and made an already great meal unforgettable. Highly recommend SAPP’s for both the food and the service!

I had an amazing experience here! My server was the girl with the short pink hair and she was amazing. She was very attentive and sweet. I loved my experience and will be coming back. The food was amazeballs and I was curling my toes at every moment!!!!

Got here to celebrate my brother's birthday and I can't emphasize on HOW GOOD THE FOODS ARE!! Literally only got to take one picture and I gave up because I just wanted to eat all the food🔥🔥. The servers were also kind enough to celebrate with us and sang for my brother💕. Overall, I recommend eating here, especially if you got special events, but don't worry, they're also very good with casual dinner/date nights! 🔥

Spacious interior—perfect for groups. The decor has a fun, grungy vibe with street art and garage-style flair. Service was excellent, and the lunch specials were a standout. I ordered the three-roll sushi combo for $19, and it was both delicious and satisfying. Definitely planning to come back!

Went for dinner and it didn't disappoint. We had Shumai for appetizer, Salmon Teriyaki, some sushi rolls and cheesecake tempura. Tastes good. I'll give them 8/10. The atmosphere was fun. Our server was very energetic. Food arrived on time and we had a great time. Most importantly the prices are fair enough.

Came on a weekday lunch. There were relatively a fair number of customers but still quiet and chill. Happy hour is available on weekdays starting at 11:30am. There's a great selection of liquors and variety for cocktails, beers on tap, and mocktails. The lunch special was worth it. The quality of the food and presentation are above average. The fish was so fresh and you can really taste the quality. We ordered the pizza which was a fried scallion pancake with spicy tuna and spicy Mayo and teriyaki sauce on top. It was delicious and well balanced. We tried the otoro sushi which was really nice and fatty. The wasabi was real which is how you know a restaurant is decent quality and care about what they serve. There were regular customers that the restaurant staff would recognize and greet warmly. The servers were caring and attentive. The complimentary tea was not just your basic green tea. There was a fruity note to it. It gave me such a good impression. The only downfall is that it is not parking friendly area. Definitely use public transit if you can to save time and money on parking. I would return if parking was better. The food was great and the atmosphere was a vibe. Definitely curious to see what it's like at night.

Great food and drinks with some awesome lunch specials! First time I came here, I sat at the bar, as this place has a TV showing the games which is nice, and the bartenders were very friendly! The sushi was fresh and delicious, with a lot of speciality rolls available. The lunch specials are also great. I'd recommend the 3 rolls for just 18 dollars, which is a great deal! I'd recommend the spicy tuna crunch roll. Will definitely be back for their great food and the opportunity to watch games here!

They have a great HH until 7pm, $6 sake! The food is tasty and fresh, I got the gantry roll with avocado & salmon, pretty filling and also had the chicken skin yakitori. The hamachi collar was good too my sister had and also tried the Katsu Don. For dessert, I recommend the matcha churros! Overall a satisfying meal and staff was so friendly, gave a little ice cream cone to my nephew which he gobbled up! Also really liked the decor, a fun laid back bar feel.

LOVE this place. The selection of food is good, prices are decent, and the options are varied. It feels like a low key, first date type place. Classy but not fancy.

Perfect spot to grab a bite after work. The sushi was nice and fresh and no wait for a weekday at dinner time. I do wish they used fresh wasabi instead of horseradish.

I was in the area, starving, and craving sushi. Sapps was the closest open option, so I headed in for some lunch. It's a cool industrial type vibe in here - graffiti on the walls, a bar playing sports, that kind of thing. Felt more like a brewery than a restaurant but no matter. I started with a miso soup, green salad, and green tea. All were good, and I was pleasantly surprised at how bug the green salad was. I ordered the 8 piece sushi entrée that comes with a tuna roll, which was an incredible deal for the sushi you get. These were omakase level sushi pieces for just $30. The flavor combinations were incredible, and I especially loved the ones that tasted like the tops were a little charred. Service was fast and friendly. I'd definitely come back here if I'm in the area again.

I got this place delivery with my friend as she moved in and it was a nice, quick spot for some sushi! We got two combo rolls and they were all pretty solid. Each came with your choice of salad or soup, and they were good sides!

Friendly service with unfortunately mediocre food. Ordered the pork katsu curry -- the portion of katsu is small while the beef curry itself lacks flavor and has tough beef. Likely won't be coming back.

Cool ambiance. Pretty extensive menu. This place has a local sushi joint feel with high end fish selections like toro on the menu. Everything was made very well. Fried squid legs had a nice crunch. Very tasty but nothing special. Crispy rice with tuna was excellent. Sushi pieces a la cart are fresh. Also got the veggie tempura and yaki udon. Overall, everything is good... just nothing special. Service is attentive and friendly.

Ate here today after work as a substitute paraprofessional at P.S. 234 Q. I had brought and ate the karaage chicken and shishito peppers for an appetizer, got the rib eye teriyaki steak to be cooked medium rare with a side of white rice as an entree and assorted ice cream (green tea, vanilla and red bean) with crunchy granola that it tasted super good and delicious. The service there was also attentive and thanks to the server Darrell to get my orders right. I couldn't agree more. Finally, I would definitely eat and come back again next time! :)

Reliable sushi and yakitori restaurant in LIC where you likely won't ever have to wait long for a table or for your takeout order. It's casual but cute enough inside for a casual date or hangout. There's standard wooden chairs and tables throughout the dining area but also leather stools and booths in the waiting area. The exposed brick walls and projector behind the bar give the industrial space character. At a spot like this, I love ordering a Sapporo on tap. Draught Japanese beer just hits when it's fresh. No other drinks complement the likes of takoyaki and deep fried special rolls either, it's just science. I think you can't go wrong with whatever you order here, but I especially liked the crispy rice with spicy tuna, crunchy spicy scallop roll, and the firecracker. Prices are reasonable and their kitchen is quick. Not the most memorable meal but they fully deliver on their promises. Solid Japanese restaurant.

Sapps is a spacious izakaya with bar seating and a variety of tables to accommodate diners and parties of all shapes and sizes. My preferred move is to sit at the bar where I can enjoy the attention of the bartenders, all of whom are knowledgeable, polite, and offer terrific service. Ask them about happy hour specials (the hot sake is a must) or inquire about the various food items on the menu. This is a perfect spot to drink, eat, and catch up with old acquaintances or new friends. As the name would imply, this is a great place to get a nice cold Sapporo draft. Pair it with some yakitori (the tsukune is my favorite) or takowasa (cold chopped octopus in wasabi). The sushi offerings are approachable and satisfying, with a few specialties, such as the sushi pizza, which can make a nice compromise for those who aren't too familiar with sushi but want to give it a try. The fish quality and preparation are always satisfying, occasionally outstanding. This is a perfectly fine place for a lone patron, but it's also wonderful for parties of two. I consider that to be the ideal number of people to sit at the bar and catch up over the course of several rounds of drinks and shared plates of food. This could also be a nice date spot and of course parties of four or more can have a great time seated in the dining area. Personally, the action is best at the bar, where one can savor the moment and allow themselves the gratification of becoming part of the environment.

Got the katsu curry rice and the nabeyaki udon which were both were yummy! Came here on a Saturday night and the service was fast and efficient! The ambiance was casual and clean. Would definitely visit again to try the other foods!

I've had this spot many times over the past 7yrs. I think it's pretty good for the options we have within mile range from this spot It's cute and casual inside. Friendly staff I always get a Kani salad. I've had a few items here, love the chicken karrage, pork katsu, spicy tuna roll, spicy crab roll, the tuna loco roll, yellowtail scallion, and spider roll are usually the ones I get most often.

Good, conveniently located Japanese restaurant at a reasonable price in LIC. Pretty spacious inside- no wait. I would recommend trying their specialty rolls and the drink menu is quite good too.

Cute Japanese restaurant with great cocktails! I enjoyed dinner here with friends. We ordered the rock shrimp and takoyaki for appetizers. I recommend both! My boyfriend ordered a salad and for $5 it was large. Honestly it was as big as a lunch-size portion for me! I ordered the Nabeyaki udon. This udon soup came in a hot stone bowl. I loved how everything was kept very hot, but the udon noodles didn't overcook, and was the perfect consistency throughout the meal. It came with a lot of other ingredients, and the shrimp tempura that came with this dish was also great. My friends and I all enjoyed our cocktails. I ordered the lychee martini and it was quite strong. They have fair prices for cocktails here, cheaper than average in Manhattan! Would come back here again!

Classic Japanese fare in a cool, industrial setting- kinda makes you feel like you're in a brewery. Service was attentive and friendly. The menu is quite extensive! Had the Green Salad, Rock Shrimp, and Takoyaki to start, and had the Pork Katsu Curry as my main. Would recommend them all. I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the salad- it's cheap and easily serves two!

My first time here and it was lovely. It had just opened when I got there so it wasn't busy yet. Service was great either way. My aunt had asked about a certain dish and the manager came over, without being asked to, to explain the dish. Awesome service The food was good and presentation were all good. Delicious. I'll be back to explore the menu a bit more.

I work across the street from Sapps on Sundays. Today I ordered a spicy, miso ramen to go. I paid just over seventeen dollars for the tiniest bowl of ramen ever. I didn't feel real good about that. Sapps is cute inside and there's a great full bar but their prices are unreasonable. I really like their appetizers too- the shrimp tempura is delicious. None of it is worth the price though.

Great casual japanese spot. Got the 3 roll lunch special of salmon, crunchy spicy tuna, and crunchy spicy salmon. The space was well decorated and clean - staff were very attentive and fast given how busy they were around lunchtime. No complaints at all about the sushi and drinks looked bussin.

I really like the vibe of this place. Whether it is in purpose or not, it's got the feel of a speakeasy. Probably because of the narrow entrance and the drapery that covers the entrance. It may also be easy to miss because of the construction next door. However, don't skip it! I had lunch here today and the food flavor and value are both excellent. I got the Teriyaki Salmon bento box at the recommendation of the bartender and it was flavorful as it was plentiful. I don't know how they do it but the skin was crispy while the salmon was moist and full of teriyaki flavor. Along with the salad, miso, rice, and dumplings... I was really full. All for $16!

I think this is probably the best Japanese restaurant in LIC. I always have the best time here. The food is good, and the staff are very friendly and attentive. It is authentic Japanese food. I always have to have my fave dishes. The nabiyaki udon and shrimp tempura are amazing! I like the atmosphere and the dark lighting in here. It really sets the mood. I also think the portions are decent and they're not overly expensive either. Check this place out and support them.

I got carry out on a rainy day and it was great! Packaged well and kept the fried food fried (not soggy) in the udon dish. I enjoyed the soup and a sushi roll very much. The price was fitting and I really liked this meal!

This is pretty much my favorite restaurant. I come for lunch about once a week . Customer service is always warm and friendly . Food is tasty and reasonably priced. I usually do the bento box . But everything is good. Drinks are also great. Restaurant is trendy and clean . Consistently good restaurant

Great vibe! Not the usual sushi spot decor. A bit moody with soft lighting, and has more of a bar vibe (they do actually have a bar that is pretty busy, too), but it works! The music sets a good mood, without being too much. But of course it's about the food for a sushi spot. Excellent quality fish! That's the most important thing. It's not the cheapest sushi spot but the quality and experience are worth every penny.

I love Sapps! My neighborhood sushi joint that has consistently delicious sushi, tempura, miso soup, and drinks! I love their cocktails! My husband and I love to stop by and watch the game at the bar while eating sushi. The bartender there is very nice too. All the staff are very attentive and hospitality is great! They usually don't have a wait but are consistently busy. They have a great matcha green tea churro dessert that is sooo delicious too. My go to sushi roll here is their scallop roll, it's just so tasty! I dig the ambience here too. Always a good time.

Recently tried out Sapps with some friends as it's a pretty casual place and you usually don't need to make any reservations. There's ample seating and a pretty extensive menu so it's a good place for larger parties. If you're looking for some Japanese food that won't break the bank, Sapps is the place to go. While the prices are reasonable, you get what you pay for because I ordered some classic sushi rolls and the fish was just mediocre. One of my friends tried the katsu and he liked his dish, so maybe I'll try that next time. Service was fast and friendly. Overall, it's a decent place to go to if you want some affordable Japanese food but don't expect the meal to be mind blowing.

Had some very tasty japanese food at Sapps in LIC. I was a fan of the apps we ordered: tako wasabi, rock shrimp, miso cod, skewers. The rock shrimp especially was a standout. Alsoo you can never go wrong with the sushi + sashimi platter, just look at those thick cuts of fish

So amazing. Food is always a 10/10 !! Service is always top tier, always so kind. Ambiance is fire!!! Such a cool place.

Stopped by for lunch on a weekday - I ordered the 3 rolls for $16 lunch special that they had (salmon, spicy tuna crunchy spicy salmon). I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of all the fish - the crunchy roll was also a very interesting use of larger pieces of (rice crackers?) instead of smaller pieces mixed more thoroughly inside the salmon. Also, the amount of fish was very generous, e.g. each bite of the salmon roll was basically two bites of salmon because it would fall out when eating. The ambience is a bit odd, I would say - seems like they are going for a certain post-industrial aesthetic that personally did not vibe well with the food in question. Anyways, would come again for the lunch specials.

Cute, modern vibes. Amazing drink list. You can get anything lychee flavored and I had a lychee mojito that I wish was more lychee forward. Service fast and friendly. Food quality is great. Definitely would recommend as a date venue.

I love the interior! Dimly lit. You can see chefs in the back making the orders, bar in the front. The two sections are visually divided by a room protruding into the dining area, the exterior has been spray painted. The space feels both posh and industrial. My friend and I each ordered a drink and a roll. Unfortunately do not remember the name of everything we ordered. I know we got the lychee martini and the gantry, both were good. My friend commented on how lychee flavored drinks often have an artificial taste but this one didn't. There is more drink than fits the glass and as part of the experience, the waiter/bartender poured my drink at the table with the shaker and left the shaker on the table for me to finish at my pace. I would come back for the ambiance :)

Ordered takeout here with my friends. We got the below dishes. The rolls were pretty average, nothing really stood out. The sushi and sashimi set for 2 was not that great honestly. The sashimi pieces tasted extremely fishy for some reason. Maybe it was just our sashimi pieces but I wouldn't get that again. The servers who took our order were nice and we waited 20-25 mins for our order. There are other sushi places in the area that may be tastier but my experience here was very average.

Sapps it's literally my favorite sushi place in LIC/Astoria. The quality of the fish is fresh, the service is always immaculate. They have a great selection of drinks both alcoholic and Mocktails as well. If you're not into sushi they have a good selection of udon and ramen as well.

Second time here at this Japanese enthused establishment. They have manga decor; including in the bathroom . Great place to bring someone to try the whole array of Japanese cuisine: rice bowls, fried items, sushi, ramen. I've tried many of the items before but I don't recommend the Katsu don. It was a bit wet and soupy. Def recommend the curry katsu and ramen. Cheers

Pretty happy about their prices. I've had fresh sushi before but something about this place, it was better. The miso soup is great, some places get me sick. This miso soup didn't. The location is great for when you want to go there. If you order from them like I do sometimes when I am lazy they deliver extremely fast. The california rolls were really fresh. Also get the Salmon rolls, I highly recommend it. The price is decent, the location is decent. They are also close to the train within two blocks, which is a deal breaker during winter months.

Finally visited in person for dinner and sat at a table in the outdoor structure (easily got a walk-in at around 7 PM on a Saturday). I tried: + Frozen lychee martini - perfect + Crunchy spicy tuna roll + Sushi sashimi combo - loved the eel avocado roll The best move is the rolls - I would skip the sashimi next time. Just a great neighborhood spot! 4.5 stars.

I like this spot! I was really impressed with their black cod miso and fish ball yakitori. The teriyaki salmon was well cooked, but lacked flavor. The yellowtail scallion roll was good, not great. The chicken yakitori was not very good. The shishito peppers were standard.

Big fan of this place! I've been to a lot of sushi restaurants and Sapps is definitely one of my favorites. I've been here three times for dinner, no reservation & no wait upon arrival (lots of seating), but the service tends to be slow.. but the food is great so it's worth for me. On one occasion, the kitchen somehow lost our ticket for our food but the server was very apologetic about it and gave us free salad and miso soup as well as some sake. I think all of their sushi is absolutely delicious, definitely stands out against other sushi restaurants. I usually order the Salmons My Game and Toro Scallion Roll. Desserts are pretty good too. I enjoyed the chocolate molt - def think molten lava would be great!! But still tasty.

I've been looking for a good sushi place around the LIC area and unfortunately I'm still on the search. Tried this place because of the location and the decent reviews, sadly it was not the greatest. Ordered a few items: California rolls, salmon roll, tuna roll, avocado cucumber roll. Wanted to try different things. First off, the size of the sushi's were so small. They look much bigger on the pictures but in reality they're no wider than a quarter. The fact that 3 different types of rolls can fit in one small container that's smaller than 5x8 really says something. Second, the California roll was not good at all. They use artificial crab (which seems to be the trend around this area) which makes it have no flavor since they don't add anything to it. We ordered for pick up so I can't really rate the service but it seemed okay while we were there. Resturant is clean which is a positive and the prices weren't that bad. If anyone has any suggestions for sushi let me know.

Sapps is a decent spot for Japanese food in the area. Definitely not the best but pretty good given the variety of items on the menu ranging from hot entrees and appetizers to sushi. It's actually pretty big inside with bar seating, a first floor and a second floor! Ambience is nice and would recommend for a casual meal. Service was also pretty good - a bit too attentive. We ordered a ton of appetizers and entrees and I thought they were all pretty good. I prefer special rolls and they had a decent selection to choose from. The fish was pretty good but the roll with shrimp tempura just had too much outside batter (although added great contrast in texture with the crunch) so I wasn't really able to taste the fish. Also ordered some yakitori and takoyaki which I enjoyed. I wouldn't recommend the sukiyaki. It was primarily napa cabbage and other vegetables that was not worth the price. Otherwise, there's ramen, rice dishes and others that are probably a better choice! Good spot to enjoy a dinner with friends or a significant other. Prices are average amongst other sushi restaurants and food is decent but the ambience was nice!

My friend Brian brought me to this place, he also happens to work here. Amazing, hardworking and talented server. Ambiance coming in the restaurant was a vibe, like you know it's gonna be good food and vibes here the moment you step in. Highly recommend everyone try their omakase, it's very delicious. I was satisfied. Thank you Brian, manager Sally and the whole team for providing me with the greatest hospitality. Will be coming back with more people!

The ambiance is really chill. It's got like a hip vibe and a gastropub aesthetic. The food is good but not amazing. My boyfriend and I got the Gantry Roll, the Salmon Teriyaki, and the Chicken Katsu Curry. The Gantry Roll was EXCELLENT. I have no complaints there. However the salmon and chicken katsu were really really under-seasoned. They were cooked nicely, but they needed salt desperately, and I resorted dipping chunks of my salmon into soy sauce to get some more flavor in. My boyfriend's curry was the same and lacked seasoning. He liked his curry but it wasn't his favorite he's ever had. He uses it as a litmus test for every Japanese place he tries. We still liked it a lot though! Great vibes and atmosphere, and everything tasted good! It's just that for the price, I really wish the cooked food was seasoned better. Just a little bit of salt would go a long way.
