All About Sobrang Sarap, Portland’s New Filipino Food Tour | Eater Portland

"A brand-new, monthlong tour highlighting the sheer variety of Filipino fare, Sobrang Sarap runs throughout April and features 16 Filipino food businesses across the Portland metro area, Beaverton, Gresham, and Troutdale. Organized by marketing company ALIST owner Amanda Mailey, artist Beatriz Lugt, and Baon Kainan food cart co-owner Geri Leung, the crawl asks guests to request the “chef challenge” at participating outlets: week one focuses on ube, week two on adobo, week three on calamansi, and week four on pancit. Participants include Carlo Lamagna’s Magna Kusina and Magna Kubo, Grind Wit Tryz, Chik and Chuck’s Coffee, and Sun Rice, and the event culminates in a ticketed, family-friendly celebration on Sunday, April 28." - Paolo Bicchieri

Food is amazingly good. Love the pork belly kare kare and sinigang soup. Very flavorful! Sinigang soup meat is tender and strong sour flavor. The halo halo is out of this world. It had a very good aromatic smell that is hard to forget. It had just about everything you can think of that go into a Southeast Asian dessert (different types of beans, toddy palm seeds, shaved ice, milk, banana, ube ice cream, whole kernel corn, flan, yam?, and some other things I don't recognize bc it was mixed in this large amount purple liquid and ice). LOL. That 32 oz cup is ginormous. Took me 3+ days to finish that dessert. I don't care for the little green glutinous rice flakes at the top which are hard to chew. They are more hard than crispy and are flavorless. Does the cup have like 3K calories? Cheese or something stuck to the wall of the cup bc it was a cold drink, which took me awhile to pry open. LOL. Good thing it was togo order. I took it home and transfered to a big noodle bowl in order to figure out what was all in there. Only missing jackfruit strips. The most amazing and most expensive halo halo I have ever had. But worth the $. Just wish they would make it 1/3 that size for 1/3 the prize so easier for individuals to consume without feeling overwhelmed and less guity if they are forced to dump bc all the ice melted after awhile. With smaller size, customers would feel less guilty eating it and more likely to order other biggger main dishes and come back more often. Also, I'd suggest putting it in a bowl (as one place I had in Maui) so customers can enjoy easier all the textures and flavors at the same time not having to wait till the bottom of the cup to enjoy whatever stuck at the bottom of that seemingly "supper deep well". Chances are they might not finish it all the way for having to throw it away bc the ice all melts. Surprisingly it took me days to eat (which I didn't mind the melted ice now turned into milky purple liquid) but it didn't get bland. Still sweet. That's why I think about 3K calories. LOL It took 20+ minutes for 2 togo dishes and a halo halo while the restaurant wasn't that busy at all. I appreciate though that my food was made so fresh, to order only. So, make sure you come and order before you start to seriously get hungry and your stomach starts growling. 😆

I've had authentic homemade Filipino food before and I would say this was a close second. The BBQ Pork stick was AMAZING, full of flavor, juicy, and perfectly grilled. The Puncit was not exactly what I was expecting but still delicious. I would give it a 7.5/10 based on the homemade traditional style I'm used to. Overall the service was good, staff was nice, and establishment was clean. The soda fountain tasted a bit off like it needed a deep clean. I ended up getting one of the available teas that were in a different fountain. Will be going back on my next trip!

We got the fried fish, the vegetable lumpia, the mixed pancit with meat, suman-mag-asawa, and they have us a bowl of Munggo. The fish was ok, nothing special, with lots of bones that need to be taken out. The vegetable lumpia was ok, but the vegetables were seeming to start going bad. The pancit came with a pork lumpia, which was much better than the vegetable lumpia. The pancit itself was ok, but wish we had gotten it without the meat. The munggo is something that could be a comfort food except for the strange gooy items mixed in. The suman-mag-asawa was absolutely delicious, my wife wanted more of the sweet sauce that was on top.

If you’re craving authentic Filipino food around Colorado Springs, this place is a must-visit! Every dish is packed with flavor, just like home-cooked meals in the Philippines. The portions are generous (understatement), making it great value for money, and the staff are warm, friendly, and attentive, which makes the dining experience even better. Whether you’re Filipino missing the taste of home or someone curious to try something new, I highly recommend this restaurant. You’ll leave satisfied and wanting to come back for more. Talagang sulit sarap sa Sarap! 🇵🇭

Google
The most authentic Filipino food we have had in CO since the actual Philippines! 💝 The desserts were absolutely amazing! Totally recommend it and will definitely be back!

Google
Our second time here and both times the staff were very welcoming and friendly. We’ve had the pork sisig, chicken inasal, pancit, pinakbet, lumpia, & lechon kawali and each one was so delicious. The portion was pretty good too. For dessert we’ve gotten the Halo-Halo, Ube Biko, & Red Velvet Strawberry cake and they were fantastic! I have not been disappointed. I will also add that they donated some of their dishes to the USAFA Laboratory during National Laboratory Professionals Week. Those dishes were Pancit, Lumpia, and Pork Sisig and my co-workers raved about the tastes and said they loved them all. Thank you for supporting our unsung heroes!

Google
My first visit to the newly opened Filipino restaurant, and I'm really enjoying it so far! The staff, as well as the owner, are really friendly, sweet, and informed about what they are offering. I definitely suggest this place! Today, I ordered Pork Sinigang, Lechon Kawali, Kare-Kare, Fried Fresh Fish, and Pinakbet. And the owner gave me complimentary drinks and dessert! So awesome! Now, I'm going to gain weight again after 5 hours working today🤣.

Google
Cool atmosphere and quick service, but the experience was mixed. I told the person at the register right away that I don’t eat pork and asked for a recommendation. He suggested a few dishes that had pork, so I chose the beef stew. He mentioned it came with pork lumpia, and I asked for it to be left off. When we were served, the stew was room temperature and still came with the pork lumpia. I politely reminded him I don’t eat pork and asked for it to be taken away, but he just said “it’s okay” and left it with me. The stew itself was bland potatoes, onion, cabbage, and beef, but lacked any strong flavor. It honestly reminded me of a basic German stew, not what I expected from Filipino cuisine. Maybe cold stew is traditional? The beef and cabbage were cut into such large pieces we had to chop them up to eat. No silverware was provided (even though we were dining in), so I had to get it myself. We also weren’t offered water. On the bright side, the rice was great. For over $20 (with tax), it felt underwhelming, cold, bland food and having to gather your own utensils. I’m giving more stars than the experience probably earned because I’m hoping it was just an off day. I’d be willing to try again for a better visit.

Yelp
My tummy is a happy one! This place is delicious. Came here to try something new and was NOT disappointed. First off everything is made to order so it's piping hot. Boyfriend got the chicken adobo with rice. Rice was nice and sticky and chicken was hot and tender. Lumpia are nice and crispy. I could see the steam off and it smell great. I had to try. Yummy! I got the Tortang Talong that was absolutely amazing! As I said, made to order so it's a bit of time to cook but it's well worth the wait. Crispy on the outside and perfectly soft grilled on the inside. The beef empanada was also amazing! Flaky and juicy plus hearty and delicious. I will be ordering more and look forward to trying the chicken adobo empanada. This place is worth it! Doesn't break the wallet and taste like it came from a Mama's kitchen. Looking for to my next visit, even if it's to go.

Yelp
Still waiting for a refund on 2 pancit upgrades instead of rice, and missing the additional chicken inasal for $7.99 and they forgot to add any of the dipping sauces I ordered online. They ran out of Biko and sent a 4.99 gift card that I wont ever use. Without the sauces the food is bland, Save your money.

Yelp
Definitely a welcoming environment. When you enter, you're greeted and encouraged to take your time to decide on your order. Without prompting, she asked if I was military and offered a discount. I opted to eat there as the dish I ordered is best sizzling hot. Most eateries find clever ways to repurpose their menu items to cut down on food waste. I've had sisig in other locales and it missed the mark. Here the sisig is made w/lechon kwali but it's prepared in a manner that it's not dry. The flavor of the dish was very much to my liking. It comes with a side of rice with fried garlic garnish and a lumpia. You'll be asked if I you want the dish spicy, I recommend you say yes and ride that train to Flavor town! The lumpia options are pork or veggie. You may dine in or get your order to go. The wait time for my food wasn't very long and the presentation was aesthetically pleasing. There is an additional charge if you want an egg atop. Be careful when the dish is presented as it is served on a very hot cast iron griddle. The biggest takeaway here was the customer service, price point for the dish and portion. I'd gladly visit again to explore other options. Parking is in a shared lot with adjacent businesses but it wasn't a challenge. Capable of accepting contactless pay, cash or credit cards.

Yelp
I tend to find a Filipino restaurant where ever I am. This is the only places I've found in the springs so far. The store gives me local Filipino restaurant feels. They have frozen items and baked goods. I got the ube cookies, which were really good. As for the food I kept it simple for my first time and got the chicken adobo and added a piece of lumpia for a dollar. Both were really good. The adobo didn't have as strong of a flavor I'm use to but still good. You can't beat it for the portion size. The customer service is great, they always ask if you're miltary and can give you the run down on what's good.

Yelp
Growing up in Hawaii & Cali, I'm used to having lots of Filipino restaurants to choose from. We tried Sarap this weekend & trust me when I say- it won't disappoint! The customer service was the best & they're so welcoming. First thing they asked was if we're either military or nurse, which we appreciate. Their food was great, especially the chicken inasal & halo halo. We'll surely return here & 100% recommend this place!

Yelp
Amazing authentic Filipino food in Colorado Springs. Wonderful customer service and very affordable. The restaurant is cozy and welcoming. Our family ordered the Kare Kare, Sisig, and Pork Inasal. All three entrees were delicious and presented beautifully. We will definitely be back to try more of their delectable Filipino cuisine.

Yelp
Growing up in Hawaii and born in PI I have been craving some nice authentic Filipino food for a while. This place had everything from adobo, Filipino skewers and sinigang. We ordered pick up and the dishes were amazing. I highly recommend the pancit, lumpia skewers. The sinigang was good but a lot sourer than how I remember grandma making it. The only disappointment was the desserts. They were WAY smaller portions for what we paid for, the ube and cheese cake was really good but not worth the portion size to price. I'd def go back and eat at the restaurant next time.

Yelp
I had the chicken inasal and it was wonderful. It took a little long because of a mix up in the kitchen, but it was worth the wait. Hubby had the sisig and it was a symphony of flavor and texture. Very small and clean dining area.

Yelp
Delicious!! Super tasty and very rich in flavor. Sisig was good, but loved the chicken adobo!! Meat was super tender and fell off the bone. A fun variety of desserts, the ube cookies were great!
google avatar

Steph L.

Yelp
The halo halo is huge and delicious!! We loved this place when it originally opened but then were disappointed with the second ownership's food but it's great again. We only had the lumpia, we were weary since they are pork and not beef but they were delicious! We will be back to try more things from the menu!
google avatar

Yelp
The food was good, my non filipino husband and kids finished all their food and we were stuffed The lechon kawali was freah and crunchy, the adobo flavorful and the kids got the BBQ chicken. I like that the entrees come with a lumpia if you dont want to order an entire side. They have some baked goods/sweets including ube cheesecake and bilinear. I was happy to see a fridge where they sell frozen goods too (siopao, longanisa and more) Halo halo as well! Entire staff was friendly and very accommodating. Would drive back here from Parker to eat again!

Yelp
Delicious Filipino food. I've lived in Colorado Springs for 4 years and this is the best Filipino food I've ever had. Taste like I'm back home. I suggest you try each and every food in the menu. They are delicious. We had Kare-kare, pinakbet and sisig. They're the bomb! Me and my son loved the food.

Arvin M.

Yelp
Friendly staff, impeccable service and outstanding food and inviting ambiance . Overall experience is 10/10. I would definitely return and would recommend this again to my friends!

Jonathan M.

Yelp
Just stopped by to try a new restaurant and I'm totally blown away. PLEASE try the Kare Kare or the BBQ pork entrees. I thought I wasn't going to be satisfied with one so I ordered two but I'm honestly too full to eat both. Super super recommend, the owners are very friendly and explained everything as my nephews are very picky but they loved it too. 12/10 - do yourself a favor and come try Ps: the Pork Sisig was sold out when I went - they said this is one of their top sellers so I'm going to come back and get this next time!

Yelp
Delicious Filipino food! The weekly specials are fun treats for those who want variety once in a while.

Yelp
Hailing from Illinois, we had a strong craving for traditional Filipino cuisine. Thankfully, Sarap lived up to our expectations. Most of the dish we ordered, from the bistek tagalog to the veggie lumpia, pork lumpia, BBQ pork, and the amazing halo-halo were outstandingly flavorful. Although the tortang talong was not prepared in the manner I'm familiar with, it was still palatable. Overall, I would definitely frequent this establishment again if we are ever in Colorado Springs.

Yelp
Good food, had the pancit. Service was good, also added ube cheesecake and ube cookie. Would go again if I had time to visit and order other items.

Yelp
Best sisig I've had since Boracay! New owners and entirely new staff and this place is amazing! New menu kicked off 29 March and buzz got out... the line was out the door. Everything tastes great and everyone there is so nice!
google avatar

Peter P.

Yelp
Used to like this place but it went downhill. Yeah they fast service for mobile orders but the food is not good anymore. Sisig is bland and the rice has too much water very mushy.
google avatar

Yelp
This is the resto with the kapitbahayan (neighborhood) feel and vibes. The ambiance feels welcoming and the greeting one gets upon walking in is heart-warming. The service is awesome from the staff that seem to want to make sure the customer is acknowledge, welcomed, and "be our guest" feel to it. The food is 100% legit! It is in the name "SARAP" meaning delicious. Bar-none, everything on the menu is homestyle feels and taste! The portions are solid--and the times I ate here, after new management took over, I almost did not finished--but I pushed through! If you know, you know--go to try this! Especially the Halo-Halo, Sisig, hell...try all of them. Can't and will not go wrong! Cheers!

Yelp
The food was amazing! You can tell by the quality of the food and time spent on it that the staff truly enjoy what they do! The ambiance was great and it made me feel back at home with some of my old friends from the Philippines! We will be going back as long as they are open!

Roxanne V.

Yelp
Just moved here from San Antonio looking for good Filipino restaurant. We definitely found our go to spot! Everything was delicious!! 11/10 recommend

Maria L.

Yelp
Portion size very small for the prize. Customer service was lacking due to poor listening skills. Major Rip off

Yelp
I grew up eating Filipino food in the Bay Area and I can honestly say that this place is better than what I've had back home! My partner is also Filipino and he agrees. We've tried Sarap during their soft opening and again today and everything is so dang good! I've tried their Kare Kare, Chicken Pancit, Beef Empanada, Turon, and Chicken Tinola and everything was amazing!! The soup is definitely my favorite. We will be back again soon!

Yelp
No stars as the place is a rip-off. (I was forced to have one to post.) I did not want to do this because I am Filipino and preferred to support a "kabayan." However, I am more inclined to save others from going through what my family and I went through. Plus, the food here is NOT what Filipino food tastes like. The portions are diminutive and they used rice to "prop up" the entree. We ordered 5 different entrees and boy - was that a huge misstep I really truly do not see how this place will remain open for long. One trip is all it will take to know you should NEVER waste your money this way again. Daryl (owner) responded to the post I sent earlier today, 01/10/25. In the interest of full transparency, I ordered online last Fri, 01/03/25 and picked it up at around 4:15-ish pm (or sometime around then). I ordered a 4-pc lumpia (one review here stated "lumpia seemed weak and not fried enough" and I completely agree. Each order had one lumpia as well.); chicken bbq (dry and bordering tasteless); pork bbq (tasted more like adobo - and not a good version), kare-kare (gosh, the mini cubes of beef are nowhere near what kare-kare should look or taste like); bistek (propped up on rice to make the bigger portion of the container look full; almost tasteless); and pork sisig (I am a very fair person and will state this order was acceptable. It was the most palatable order out of the 5 entrees). These are more detailed descriptions of the entree orders I wanted to spare the readers of knowing about. But since you asked for it Daryl, I laid it out here.

Yelp
Really cute place and I love that they are family owned. The owners were so nice and friendly and super welcoming! I loved the lechon kawali and portion sizes were just right for the price. I also tried the pandan cupcake and it was such a good and unique flavor and the cake was perfectly soft and fluffy. Will be coming back again to try the other dishes and desserts!!!

Mirasol R.

Yelp
I had pork kare-kare and lumpia yesterday. They're so good I'll give it five stars. The owner said they merged with another family so they're 2 owners now. They have new workers, Filipinos who cook Filipino food yay! So they know what they're doing. Don't forget to try their homemade ube ice cream! The best ube ice cream.

Adoree L.

Yelp
My husband and I ordered Kare-kare with lumpia. We were disappointed with the food, although the serving portions were good enough. The meat( beef stew) of the kare-kare was hard, making it hard to chew. The authentic filipino kare-kare has a soft meat and not filled with actual peanuts . The cook filled our kare-kare with big peanuts pieces. The lumpia seemed weak and not fried enough. I think the frozen lumpia that are being sold in an asian store taste much better. We also ordered the ube cheesecake which is good enough but kinda watery and not that firm. I'm not sure if I will go back to this place soon but i hope they will improve the food and make it taste authentic in the future. Despite of the unsatisfactory review of the food, the restaurant is clean and enjoyed the music being played inside.

Yelp
filipino food in the springs? ofc i had to try it. we got the lechon kawali, pork bbq and chicken pancit. it was so good. after trying you-ka, this was definitely an upgrade. service was great, atmosphere was on the quiet side coz we were the only ones there for a minute. i'll def come back!

Anna C.

Yelp
My family and I just recently tried the sisig and the Kare Kare, it was delicious. We loved the ube yema cupcakes. Keep up the good work. The only feedback that I would give is on the Biko- the malagkit rice was a little bit tough but everything else was great. Anna

Shonda P.

Yelp
Excitedly tried this restaurant on Friday night. I got the chicken adobo. Flavor was really good. Meat portion was outrageously small. Not full breast, thighs, legs or wings of chicken, none, big nor small. The chicken was cut up and barely any there at all. So disappointing.

Maui D.

Yelp
I'm local and lived here in Springs way before the great Blizzard of '97. When the other Filipino restaurant opened in 2016 and was replaced by another, it was a sad day for many people. Unfortunately the second restaurant that opened in the same place before Sarap restaurant came, wasn't up to par... at all. When I saw the sign for Sarap I had high hopes. We stopped by and saw that the menu was amazing and looked delicious. I ordered Sisig with beef lumpia and extra rice. My husband ordered lechon kawali with ensaladang pipino, a side order of atchara and curry empanadas. First impression, the presentation was already not great, the container they put in the food is a bento-like box, the rice was all over the side and on the cover as well. They put the lumpia on top of the rice so when I opened the container the lumpia was smashed on the rice and when I lift it up to eat it the lumpia the rice was stuck all over it; they did the same thing with my husband's order with the cucumber salad drenched right next to his lechon, no biggie. Although there's a lot of different ways in making Sisig in the Philippines there is one universal ingredient when making this; crispy pork belly and its citrus. Though I understand that they also cater for the mass, there is something to be said when making this specific recipe. The pork was cooked well, however, it was super oily that the I couldn't taste the flavor, I am not exaggerating when I say dripping oil; I did asked for spicy and the food wasn't close to have any heat at all. To top it off there was no citrus flavor either. They did include a small wedge of lime, which I used but unfortunately it wasn't enough. They have spiced vinegar available and so that's what I used to spice it up and had the citrus-y I was looking for (although vinegar is not ideal it was the only thing I can use to not throw away my food). Sisig is one of the many Filipino food that is rich in flavor. Unfortunately for this one, that's not the case. The beef lumpia that came with it was bland, I think they forgot to put salt in it. I ordered a side of Atchara, now that was delicious. My husband ordered lechon kawali; now, you can't really mess this one up because it's a deep fried pork belly, my only complaint on this one was again, bland, no salt. The ensaladang pipino (cucumber salad) was soggy (cucumber wasn't bright green anymore). Now, the biggest disappointment was the curry empanadas, it had a curry flavor but once again it was very bland, I'm not sure if they don't like to use salt at all. The place is clean and they were playing tagalog music in the background. However the staff that took our order and the cook was cold; neither of them was smiling at all. We came in during Sunday lunch hour, the place wasn't busy. Although we only had water to drink I noticed that in their fountain drink area they have quite a few choices of drinks. I was glad to see coconut water in one of the fountain machines. We love our local businesses and continued to support them. I hope that Sarap restaurant will take this review as a constructive feedback. 2 Stars.

Yelp
got the chicken pancit with a side of garlic fried rice--a brilliant meal, hard to believe this exists in colorado springs
