Best Totchos and Loaded Tots in Portland | Eater Portland

"Although the beer bar’s menu skews Midwestern favorites like fried cheese curds and puppy chow, its menu also includes Portland-loved totchos. Here, a bed of Tater Tots is smothered under layers of melty queso, salsa, sour cream, Fresno chile sauce, and jalapeños. Wash it down with a choice from the slate of beers on tap." - Janey Wong

Portland Bar Snacks Ideal for Any Night Out | Eater Portland

"When pairing bar snacks with beers, it’s hard to beat cheese curds, but they’re not readily found in the Portland area. Luckily, rustic, Packers-themed tap house and bottle shop Saraveza is all about Midwestern cuisine, serving baskets of golden-fried squeaky cheese curds. Crispy on the outside, with long stretches of molten cheese on the interior, they’re well-matched by a crisp lager or hoppy IPA and a sports game." - Alex Frane

Where to Find Top-Notch Mac and Cheese in Portland | Eater Portland

"Along with delivering a great beer selection, this relaxed North Portland bar serves a stovetop mac and cheese that balances creaminess and saltiness with a surprising smoke. The chef uses cavatappi pasta along with a blend of smoked gouda, white cheddar, and yellow cheddar. The finished dish is sent into the oven to add a crispness to the top."

13 Stellar Beer Bars to Hit in Portland | Eater Portland

"The friendly, Packers-themed Saraveza has a more modest tap list than other beer bars in town, but it more than makes up for it with a generous selection of beers by the bottle. Housed in a series of vintage coolers, the selection includes a wide variety of styles, countries of origin, and sizes. To pair with beers and sports, the bar offers hearty, midwestern cookin’ for lunch and dinner, including some fun pasties, homestyle fried chicken and meatloaf, and perfectly squeaky fried-cheese curds, which go well with literally any kind of beer." - Alex Frane

Google
Home of the last $6 pint in Portland (not even happy hour!) Not only does this place drip with love for craft beer (place is a temple!), but it's comfortable and non-pretentious. I spoke with the bartender and they just run a formula on the cost of the keg and it spits out what they charge. So, yes, there were pints that cost more than $6, but the ethics in this place are off the charts. The coolers are sick as hell too. Such good, fresh packaged selection. I'm bummed that I live 20+ min away or else I'm not sure l'd drink anywhere else. This place is about as real as it gets. Cozy, great music, awesome selection and a new patio coming soon. Thanks folks

Google
Loved this small, clean, beer heavy dive bar. Somehow I've neglected to notice them in my time in Portland. It was quiet and easygoing for a late lunch on a Tuesday. Lovely bartender, good pizza at a happy hour discount and lots of beer choices also discounted for HH at very reasonable prices. Pizza reminded me of east coast Greek pizza but I'm told maybe it's a Midwest sort, but just delicious.

I was working down the street and decided to check out Saraveza for lunch. The place is very moody inside and was very comfortable. The server was very pleasant and attentive. I ordered way too much because everything sounded so good. The burger was perfect. The sausages we great as well. Overall I highly recommend this place!

Google
cool place..went for the mac and cheese, fell in love with the Cheesecurds

Google
Cool Chicago/Wisconsin pub, good food the chicken sandwich is definitely the way to go. Not a huge taplist but a good one with a full range of offerings. Service was great, the ambiance was broken off on Midwest if you appreciate that, otherwise still a nice traditional pub.

Google
Great atmosphere, family friendly place. The staff are really friendly and nice. I love the way they do their best they have tiers for you to know when some beers are finished what is the next tap you would get. Their food is very good. We had the burger which was excellent work potatoe salad and the chicken sandwich which was delicious with fries. Also their fried cheese curds are just amazing!

Google
One of Portland's craft beer taverns offering a solid taplist, tasty Wisconsin-inspired dishes, and a wide variety of can & bottle options as well.

Yelp
Dear god, I love this place. But I'm also writing this tipsy from their Drekker Triple Berry sour... But also facts. This place never disappoints (even the time we ordered too many cheese curds that we thought we were going into cardiac arrest). DO try the Drekker Berry sour if it's in stock (or check out some of their other rare find sours and ciders!). DO get the brisket sandwich or else what are you doing?? I've never foodgasmed as much as I do after one sour in and take my first bite of this juicy MF! DO get the cheese curds to share (like maybe 3 people per order or else you might just KO). Anyways. Come here. Come now...

Yelp
Corner neighbor dive bar at the west end of Killingsworth. Walls are a collage of beer brands from everywhere. Interesting draft list, not your typical local Oregon offers. Also unique finds in their coolers togo or to drink on site. The bar seating is lined with quiet singles sipping on their single pint for a long time. Sit in a secluded booth and look through the bottle cap table. The food was ok & a bit pricey, not expecting much so not disappointed much.

Yelp
Please, never miss an opportunity to drop in for delicious brews, and/or good food. I love to try Tap offerings while I find some to take home. Alone or with friends - it is worth your time. 72 and 4 Bus and Yellow MAX are so close. Thus time I walked from MLK, after the 6 bus and SE Tavs. This is how to Pub Hop and stay alive, my friends. Ask for a taste if unsure a bevvy is in your palate range. Cheers!

Yelp
We ordered a radicchio salad, cheese curds and the porchetta sandwich with a side of macaroni salad. The radicchio was very coursely chopped to the point of awkward eating but I enjoyed the dressing. The cheese curds are what they are. The sandwich was ok and the macaroni salad was kinda bland but also had huge chunks of onion. Overall food was ok but seemed hastily prepared. The staff was good though and I like the homey neighborhood bar vibe of the place.

Yelp
Awesome place, bartenders are the best! Food is awesome! Draft and bottle/can selection is top notch!

Yelp
i know i've reviewed this place already, but i wanted to update my review because i finally tried the portabella burger. y'all, this is an exceptional delicious sandwich. the toum on it is ace and the kimchi just adds some umami without being distracting. i've had it twice now and it is just so very delicious. the spouse got the fried chicken sandwich the other day and i tried that as well - it was SO GOOD but my first choice is the portabello sandwich now.

Yelp
Visited here on a cold winter day and was very happy with the service despite the snowy weather. Ordered the Loaded Mash and oh Man did this fill us up! Take note, this can easily fill two people. Cheese curds were delish and the beer selection had several funny puns for Christmas in the names.
google avatar

Corrie N.

Yelp
I've been here a handful of times and enjoyed every one. They have an amazing beer selection with plenty of local options. I originally went there because they have cheese curds on the menu and my Minnesota heart could not pass them up and they were delicious. The next time I went I had the Mac and cheese and it was SO GOOD! It's also huge, so it's a great option to share:)

Yelp
Seat warmers at their outside tables!! Hell yah, especially on a chilly evening. They have Russian river brewery aged sours, tons of cans inside and delightful bites. We had the Brussels and smoked brisket sando. Fries were great too. Parking is easy, there's even a parking lot across the street. Also checkout the plants at Solabee's a block East.
google avatar

Yelp
I had the fried cheese curds. Perfectly cooked and not greasy. Service was fast and friendly. Easy to find parking and the atmosphere inside was very chill.
google avatar

Yeary F.

Yelp
Excellent place. The people here know what they're talking about. Had a great chat with the guy running the show about the history of a brewery space in town. Stark contrast with a brewery I visited where the server didn't know what IBU meant. I'm not a snob but I appreciate when others appreciate the craft. Saravesa appreciates the craft. Perfectly curated tap list. Food's fine but is that why you came?

Yelp
Good food, one of the best beer selections in the city. Glad I stopped by love seeing ASB and Humble Sea in cans.

Yelp
Came here on our walk back home. Stopped in and this place was Poppin. Tried to sit inside but made us sit outside since baby who was two months old didn't have a vaccine proof. Even after saying it's impossible for my daughter to get one it didn't really matter and we had to go outside. Kind of hilarious to be honest and it didn't bother us. Food was solid. The beer/bottle selection is fantastic here as well. Took home some beers and they paid off when we got back to our arbnb. Definitely recommend this place. It's a cool neighborhood bar and restaurant. I would definitely be a regular if I lived nearby. Definitely recommend checking it out.

Yelp
This place is right on the corner. Food food and great selections of cerveza. I would return. Parking is not an issue.

Yelp
We arrived around 3:00 PM for a late lunch and decided to sit at one of Saraveza's patio tables since it was so nice out. We haven't eaten out since the pandemic began, but the patio is nice and spacious with more than enough space between tables and patrons to feel comfortable. The tables were thoughtfully topped with gas fire heaters, which added to the atmosphere and were a welcome addition when a breeze came through. Saraveza's menu rotates periodically, the selection currently available is very suitable for the current conditions. The items would hold up nicely if you plan to place an order for take home or enjoy outdoors. We ordered the Fried Chicken Sandwich with a side of potato salad, 2 Hungarian Sausage Links accompanied with sauerkraut and a brown and stoneground mustard, as well as a Nater Pasty filled with braised chuck, roasted potatoes, and root vegetables with a side salad. Everything was fantastic! The Fried Chicken Sandwich had a light and crunchy breading perfectly paired with bacon, lettuce, ranch, and Crystal Hot Sauce. The german-style potato salad was mustard based, very fresh and tangy. I'll have a hard time not ordering this next time I go. The Hungarian Sausage Links exceeded our expectations. The ground was a perfect texture and was incredibly moist. The flavor was excellent, a little bit of smoky and spicy with the perfect snap. We saved a link to take home, but the sauerkraut was promptly demolished before I returned to the table with takeaway boxes. The Nater Pasty was kind of a last second add on, but is not to be overlooked! I wish we had gotten another one to go. The pastry crust was buttery, light, flaky and baked to a beautiful golden brown. The filling was generous and well-balanced, with a healthy portion of braised chuck. The side salad was a simple spring mix with an oil vinaigrette that helped offset the rich, buttery pasty. The first thing you'll probably notice when walking into Saraveza are the 2 teal green beer fridges against the walls. The decor inside the restaurant is bright and fun with so many little things to look at, but what's inside the fridges is the real star! They have one of the better beer selections we've seen in the area. It definitely felt like they had something for everyone and a great selection of local brands. We decided to go with the Tieton Cider Works Bourbon Barrel Peach Cider. Tieton Cider Works has been a favorite of ours since moving here and this one is one of their best in our opinion! A nice fruity flavor with a little edge from being aged in the bourbon barrels. Definitely recommend! We received a gift card to Saraveza from some friends for Christmas, and what a gift it turned out to be! As a heads up, if you plan to use a gift card yourself, they must be redeemed inside the restaurant through their POS system.

Yelp
Saraveza had a small rotating draft list that always has new great beers on tap. They also have the best bottle options in the area. They also have a fairly small food menu but every single item on the menu is fantastic. My go to favorites are the fried chicken sammich and the brisket sammich. Can't recommend this place enough. I do wish they brought back their eggplant sammich so my fiancé would let us come here more often (limited vegan options here).
google avatar

Kiana L.

Yelp
Came here with some girlfriends for dinner and drinks. They have a super nice covered outside area on the street that is equipped with mini fire bars on their outside tables and seat warmers which were super clutch. Also the easy to use online ordering system was a nice touch that I wish other places would implement. Once we learned how to do it, it worked out really well! The food was decent, had a traditional pasty and their German style potato salad. Fairly ok selection of beers on tap. Didn't adventure inside to see their bottle selection. Would definitely come back again for the warming methods and great service!

Yelp
It is a Packer Bar. In Portland. What is not five star about that? It is also a real Portland bar, with all of the beers you could want, either on tap or bottle/canned. Plus, the prices are remarkably reasonable. Did I mention it is a Packer Bar? Not a sports bar, but a great Portland Bar that also has really good food. Not good bar food, but good food. Plus, Wisconsin worthy cheese curds. And did I mention it is a Packer Bar?

Michael W.

Yelp
A wonderful little restaurant off I-5. My wife and I stop by because of their Pasty's. A big selection of brews and food. Very comfortable atmosphere. The pasty's are well made and reminds me of my Welsh coal mining roots where we had a family recipe that is similar too my great grandmothers. The staff was very helpful. Oh BTW the restroom were very clean. Thanks for a the experience, we will be back. PS: parking across the street was available.
google avatar

Robert M.

Yelp
Great beer selection in the fridges and consistently solid tap list. My go to order is fries and a brew. The outdoor set up is awesome! Heated seats and warmth at most outdoor tables.

Michele C.

Yelp
First time and the beer selection and food was great, and the atmosphere fantastic! Cheese curds where the best in Portland and reminded me of the ones at the Old Fashion in Madison,

Sarah B.

Yelp
I had the cheese curds and radicchio. Delish! Would easily go back if I'm the neighborhood!
google avatar

Nicolette S.

Yelp
This place is wildly unique and I dig it very much. They have all sorts of beer, cider, wine, etc from the can as well as tap. I could spend a nice chunk of time in there just looking through it all. My favorite part of this place though has to be the cheese curds - as someone who has been to Wisconsin quite a bit, and is dating a 'sconie - we know good curds when we have them. These are the best we've ever had outside of Wisconsin, easy. All the other food was delicious too - especially the friend chicken sando with the potato salad. I love me a potato salad sans mayo ant this one was it. Super light, vinegar forward, not mayo & perfect. I am looking forward to my return visits and those curds!

Brian J.

Yelp
Amazing atmosphere and food - I lived in Milwaukee for years, and the fried cheese curds here rival anything in Milwaukee. They remind me of Lakefront Brewery and every bit as good (if not better). 10/10 would recommend, will be coming back for the cheese curds!
google avatar

Kevin M.

Yelp
Got some Mac & Cheese last night and was quite disappointed with the quality. The amount was mammoth, enough to feed a reasonable family of 4. But the taste was not cheesy and had a weird, burnt oiliness to it. I will go back to try out other options in the future because they have many and the value is excellent.
google avatar

Kayla C.

Yelp
Saraveza is my go to spot when I need a beer and a hearty dinner. Their beer selection is unmatched and they have some darn good fried chicken. Everyone is always so friendly, even when they're short staffed. They're ordering system also makes everything so easy.
google avatar

Kathryn B.

Yelp
Absolutely my favorite deep fried cheese curds. Chill, cozy space. Good for 1 to 1 or small groups. Cozy den-like interior. Outdoor seating is covered and has individual heating per table. Proof of vax required for indoor seating.
google avatar

Ben N.

Yelp
I didn't eat here - so qualify this review with that. We just picked up beer to go and that was mucho fun! So many unique choices we all left with something we were looking forward to trying, and they are cool with selling singles. We will be back, and I'm into trying out their food next time

Austin T.

Yelp
We've been here around 10 times and every time the food is on point. The menu changes just enough to have your favorites but also try something new. Right now they have these loaded mashed potatoes that are seriously one of the best things my partner and I have had in Portland. Like poutine but way better! If you haven't given them a try definitely do. Great neighborhood spot and the staff is always friendly and helpful.

Joe A.

Yelp
Stopped in on our bar crawl for the cheese curds. Came for the curds. Did not disappoint. Hands down the best curds I have had so far. I had the coconut rhino stout. It was perfect. Good friendly service.
google avatar

Clyde D.

Yelp
What's not to like? Not only is the tap list always deliciously and concisely curated, but their food is as good anywhere in town. Of course the cans and bottles are always on point. Amidst so much food and beer that's something I want everyday, the staff are the cherry on top of the entire situation here. Don't ever change Saraveza. You're perfect.
google avatar

Yelp
Visiting from Milwaukee, it was great to visit a Midwestern bar that plays Packer games. We showed up to enjoy the game, and found it packed to the brim with other Packer fans. As someone who doesn't frequent bars for football games, it was a fun change of pace. They've got loads of beers and they are in coolers for you to grab yourself. You just take the can up to the bar to be opened for you and pay. As for the beer on tap, they give you a sheet which outlines the movement from one keg (until it's tapped out) to what will be opened next. It was kind of fun to move along to something new, luckily I wasn't set on one beer. I was hesitant when I saw they had cheese curds on their menu, as a lot of Wisconsinites can be about quality. Thankfully I can report, they make some damn good Wisconsin quality curds. Well done, our table annihilated two orders! We also ordered the deviled eggs, which are served on a pickle slice. They were a great choice as well. Only thing that would have improved the experience, were additional tv's for better viewing and having a server come around to take orders instead of fighting through the crowds every time you needed something.
google avatar

AJ Z.

Yelp
Tried out Saraveza for the first time today and I was pleasantly surprised. I had their Buttermilk Fried Chicken Plate w/ mashed potatoes, tarragon gravy, braised chard. The batter was light, crispy and really delicious. The chicken was boneless and super moist it just melted in my mouth. They have an excellent beer selection, mostly from local breweries. What topped the experience off was our waitress Sam. She was super friendly and patient with me as I tend to take my time when ordering beer in a new place. I saw her engaging with all of her customers and she made us feel at home. Give this woman a raise, you are lucky to have her. We sat outside but the inside is clean and well maintained, you'' like it I promise. I'll defiantly be back.
google avatar

Meredith E.

Yelp
A Wisconsin bar with pasties??!?! Tons of awesome Blatz and Schlitz items on display. However, Saraveza is waaay too nice to be deemed a "Wisconsin Bar". The windows are large, and allow the sun to come in.. hahaha While I'm loving the gourmet pasties at Saraveza, I like my pasties OG: rutabaga, potato, meat, dry, and full of appreciation for miners in the upper peninsula who carried them in their lunch boxes. My mom was actually appalled when I told her about the "gourmet pasties". The Michigan Ave charcuterie is where it's at. So.Much.Meat. Two mustards, the thickest bacon, brisket and a brat. The pickled veggies were excellent. Even though they had Hamms tap handles, only a fine selection of craft beer is served. I'll be back to try the pasties, and I won't be telling my mom about it!
google avatar

Lindsey V.

Yelp
Saraveza is hands down one of my favorite places to eat in Portland. Not only is their food incredible and their prices fair, but they're just plain awesome people! I had placed a to-go order that was all vegetarian dishes (though we're not veg, it just happened that way!), and chose soup as a side, and they were nice enough to call to make sure it was ok that the soup had meat in it because the order seemed vegetarian. So nice! Thanks, Saraveza, for being a reliable, awesome place, especially during Covid!
google avatar

Sara Y.

Yelp
I love this place. A great bottle selection, some of their staff are super friendly, and they upped their food game to a point that is really quite unbelievable. Yet, here we are, eating deviled eggs, duck confit frisée salad, and hanger steak with horseradish mashed potatoes which are just as addictive as crack. So.... I ask you, have you, beer lover, come to Saraveza to drink great beer and eat good food? What's more, have you come to watch the Green Bay Packers with all the other fans in Portland? I am never here for that, as I am a Bears fan, and I am sworn to scorn the Packers, so you know.... if all this is true and I am still giving this place five stars.... you know it's gotta be good.
google avatar

Karen W.

Yelp
This is billed as a "Midwestern bar" serving pasties. Four of us with decades of midwestern living and specifically, Michigan Upper Peninsula residence, tried their drafts, pasties and fish fry. The drafts were excellent, with 11 different ones offered each night. When one keg is finished they move on to tapping the next brew (to the right on the draft menu). The cheese curds were decadently delicious with a unique dipping sauce. While the pasties were good, not great, they were not authentic. The fish fry featured cod instead of the typical midwestern lake perch, walleye or whitefish and was very disappointing.
google avatar

Maynard K.

Yelp
One of the best fried chicken sandwiches in town. Crispy fires. Good house made sauces. Well curated beer selection. Friendly staff

Yelp
True cheers bar in Portland ! I only have good things to say about Saraveza. It's just what every neighborhood anywhere needs! My personal take on a bar is that, it shouldnt really make one feel conscious and intimidated, but make the whole mood to be easy, and able to relax as you would in your living room. Saraveza gets it absolutely right! I have so many good things to say about this place, I visited Saraveza when I was new to Portland and just moved into the area. The place has a vibe that just makes things so much easier on you. They have few TVs to watch games, regular live music to keep you entertained and the bartenders are just so damn friendly! The beer selection at Saraveza is one of the best that I have seen in recent times. The IPAs, sours, stouts, barrel aged ones, german beers everything that they bring over here is gold. Looks like they actually spend time in handpicking the beers to pour. I have heard very good things about the food, but i haven't really tried them as I was good with liquid bread :D. Also a shoutout to their bottle selection, its pretty inclusive!
google avatar

Beerboy M.

Yelp
Past due for an update. Saraveza continues to be one of Portland's best beer bars. Change in ownership hasn't caused any significant changes for customers. I have visited a lot of times over the past almost 10 years. Consistently good service from knowledgeable bartenders, good and varied taplist, nice wide selection of bottles, solid food to soak up the beer. Their beer festivals tend to be great and worth hitting.

Abbie J.

Yelp
Really great cheese curds, beer and service! But if you're coming for the Packers game they no longer play the audio with the game.
google avatar

Heather S.

Yelp
Nice bar with indoor and outdoor seating. Table service inside. Great beer & whiskey selection, good food options. I only wish they had a full bar.
google avatar

Buck F.

Yelp
We were exploring Portland and found this place that served Pasties. Growing up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and being Finnish we often ate pasties both from my Mom's magical cooking abilities and from the several Pasty shops in our beautiful U.P. Town. We were all excited to try a Portland pasty. This very cool establishment was fun with great service and a lot of Green Bay Packer memorabilia. Go Pack Go! The pasties were unlike any I've had but were interesting. Their menu is interesting and fun. Overall a good place with friendly folks!

Yelp
Being from the midwest I love this place. A great beer selection. Cheese curds and wisco decor.

Yelp
The Radicchio Salad is tha Business!! Love this little spot, great rotating beer selection and friendly staff with amazing management. Had the Chicken Sand last week, on fire!!

Yelp
Simply, the best. Great beers. Wonderful Food. Welcoming Staff. Everything you love about the midwest, nothing you dont.

Yelp
It's pretty easy to rest on your laurels. Seems to me that's what's happening here. I've misplaced my laurels. If I relocate them, I'll plop down on them and rest a long, long time. Then I'll try this joint on a night other than Saturday. As a once-every-two-years patron at Saraveza my perspective is skewed a bit I suppose. The place is kind of dumpy and scroungy and I don't mind that. I grew up in this part of town and the scroungy/dumpy is long standing. But there's also a bit of the, "There's a sucker born every minute" here. 'We are cool, so you'll need to be prepared for how cool we are by paying a little premium for your beer and suffering a little smugness .' Lots of $6 and $7 pints. Hmmm. Maybe it's as simple as avoiding Saturday nights and reevaluating the situation. Or maybe they oughta lose those restful laurels.
google avatar

Omar S.

Yelp
The aesthetics and ambiance of this place for a late dinner is bedazzling. Great place for a date night with your boo-thang! Started of with the amazeballs deviled eggs, followed by the Radicchio(usly) awesome salad. We were ever so fortunate to be apart of the new Manila clam dish unveiling. The beer selection... Jesus... That's right--I said it man....

Yelp
This place really can't get much better. It is a hole in the wall Packer bar in Portland. They are sitting on a gold mine of Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula memorabilia. This place is cooler than a lot of Wisconsin Packer bars. Somehow they've snuck in hard-to-get beers in Wisconsin to Portland! New Glarus was offered as well as some wonderful local Oregon/Washinton beers. I was highly impressed by the decorations, atmosphere, crowd, beer, and ambience. This place is really amazing. The food was delicious. True, authentic pasties that taste like you're in the UP. The biscuits and gravy was also quite good. I ordered the baked mac and cheese and it was spectacular. We came here to watch the Packers vs. the Bears game and couldn't have had more fun. The bar had local Wisconsin songs like, "the Bears Still suck" and everyone in the bar knew the lyrics. We had such a fun time with other Packer fans. Almost everyone in here had Wisconsin/UP ties. Everyone was very friendly and the service was good. One of my favorite bars I've ever been to.

Yelp
Tuesday evening, February 28th, 7 degrees celsius. Tonight there's Pliney the Younger, the Elder and Blind Pig on tap. Life is good, and Saraveza is definitely the place to celebrate and enjoy. The staff is nice and quick to serve, while the beer is cold and the food warm. The air is chilled, but we still choose to sit outside, just cause. That's how good the mood at Saraveza is. Come one, come all. There's plenty of people to talk to and beer to enjoy. Happy times.
