Sardi's

Great for dinner before a Broadway play, but make reservations. The ambience was great just to be in this iconic place on Broadway. Looking at all the picture profiles was a treat and knowing they’re stars that come there created an atmosphere. The food and service were good. A bit pricey but expected for the restaurant’s class, etc. Must experience!

Finally visited the legendary restaurant that I've seen in many classic old films. Unfortunately it was a little disappointing. It is a huge restaurant over two floors and was very quiet with many empty tables. I ordered a shrimp cocktail but what I got was 5 large prawns with a separate small pot of sauce. The bread was a but hard and not served warm. The cannelloni was okay. Still enjoyed browsing all the hand painted portrais of the stars.

Twenty-five years have passed since our last visit here. The menu has changed but most aspects of the experience remain intact. Top-notch service - attentive and professional. Martini was perfectly balanced. Entrees were delicious. Creme Brulee cheesecake was a wonderful finish to share. Will return when in NYC again.

Had a great time at Sardi’s as always. It’s not new, it’s not trendy, and it’s not the latest celebrity chef cooking your favorite dish, but it is a New York institution and deserves a visit. The portraits on the wall are amazing and certainly give character to the joint. There is a permanence about it that I love and need after loosing so many important places since the pandemic. Go! And support this amazing place!

Great atmosphere, welcome and serving teams were exceptional. The food was delicious and well presented. Our waiter was patient and kind. Would recommend this because I would visit again. If you are into chocolate, get the chocolate mousse with raspberries syrup.😊

This is a must visit when in New York. Everything was wonderful, food, service, room and the prices were very good value for money considering that it's Sardi's. The 2 floors mirror each other almost exactly. Fun sketches of famous people, bars on both floors and the same layout. My cannelloni was superb and my husband's chicken Cesar was delicious. The service was professional, friendly and entertaining. Our server, Hunter, was great too. Overall fantastic experience.

We had a party of 8 on an early Saturday night with no reservations, and they still sat us with very minimal wait time. The service was outstanding. The food exquiste! Plus, if it was good enough for Kermit the frog, it's good enough for me! What an absolute treat that I will not ever forget!

Came here with a group and got there pretty early. We were able to be seated right away, which was really nice. I will say as somebody who does not eat meat, there wasn't a huge selection of food. If you have dietary restrictions, I would avoid this location. The servers and buses were super kind, and I love the caricatures of the people on the walls. I wouldn't be opposed to returning to this location, but since my options are limited, it wouldn't be my first choice

I chose this restaurant for dinner on Valentine's night because it was next door to our broadway show and it's a historic place. I also wanted to see all the caricatures. Luckily, we were able to snag a last minute reservation and we were seated in the upstairs dining room. The server was very friendly and our food was delivered quickly. The food was okay. Pasta didn't taste fresh and all the dishes were overloaded with cheese. Compared to other Italian spots, this place is pretty subpar. Our favorite part of dinner was dessert. We ordered the "Chocolate Decadence." The cake was really moist and had all the chocolate flavor without being too sweet. Lastly, during our dinner, they decided to move tables and chairs in the dining room. And although the servers tried to be quiet while doing it, the manager was really loud with giving directions. His tone seemed pretty condescending too. This ruined the romantic atmosphere my husband and I were wanting for our dinner.

Every New York locals and guests know that it is a fact historically be dined here either before or after any New York shows. Glad I finally able to experience this epic dream. Thought it will just be in movies that I'll be able to see this famous diner. We ordered what seems right for our cravings as we were hungry after the show. Of course, I have to try Sardis tradition meal. Am I satisfied? A bit . Oh well, it must be a special dish during the height of the restaurant's popularity. With all the booming Italian restaurants around, comparably, their meals are not that special. Traditionally same with others. It's the history we are paying here. Lovely to see all those former celebrities and popular people who dined here. Well, that's an epic and priceless experience.

Food is excellent and the service is Top notch. All the caricatures are amazing. A must see!

A landmark restaurant in the theater district is a must do experience at least once in your lifetime. Great before or after shows. The who's who from Broadway normally hangout in the upstairs bar. A speciality drink is the champagne cocktail (a sugar cube, dashes Angostura bitters, Champagne, finished with a lemon twist) a tried and true cocktail that has stood the test of time. Service can be a little challenging especially if the restaurant is full. I have been here on several occasions by myself or attending sponsored events. The staff is friendly and respectful. I always walk away very satisfied and feeling like I have walked where stars and power brokers have mingled over the decades. A true New York experience that should be on your bucket list.

This was my favorite dining experience on my trip. I sat at the bar and Enzo was amazing! The bar food choices aren't the best (it sounds like they do serve the main menu as well, but if you're sitting in certain spots, the plates literally won't fit), but I would probably still sit at the bar next time due to the experience. It was filled with so many theater lovers and it was so fun chatting with people. Highly recommend if you are going or coming from the theater and want to be in a theater atmosphere. It sounds like famous theater people also come hang out there.

My roommate and I got a quick drink at the cocktail lounge upstairs before our show. The bartenders were very nice and wished me a happy birthday! Sadly, my cocktail wasn't the best. It was SUPER sour. Bee's Knees are my favorite so I can be picky about them.

Place is overrated. Or perhaps it's lost its old world charm. Our first visit and certainly the last. We had a reservation post a show and were promptly seated. Service was okay, but the food was pretty average. The wines we had also tasted like really cheap stuff. Not impressed at all. And no vibe in the place. Carmines which is down the street is much better. The vibe and food there is quite a lot better I'd say

Love this place! Old school and it schools the rest. None better in Manhattan for late night drinks after a show...or before the show! The service is the best in the U.S. no kidding. And ask your server or the coat check person their backstory...aspiring actors and opera singers making rent and looking for that big break! And the maitre d' is awesome. And the bar! Been here many times in my travels, one of my favs anywhere.

Absolutely delicious, made up for my previous lack luster lunch at a restaurant near here. Service was amazing and the ambience is enough to please any movie/broadway/tv fan. Could not recommend enough!

Sardi's is a NYC staple amongst theater goers...So, I had to try them out at least once, and once is definitely more than enough. Had reservations and was promptly sat. Our server was nice and attentive. The food was just OK, we had the shrimp salad, and the cannelloni. The restaurant itself is definitely in need of some repair. Dated, a bit dingy, molding missing, etc. Really wish they'd give this place with some great history some TLC.

Our group of 6 loved our lunch selections. Each one was wonderful. Our server Jose was fabulous. The service was great but he spent time telling us about the restarant history, the pictures, and Sardi traditions. He is what wonderful customer service is all about.

As a New Yorker, I have had a number of New York Institutions on my restaurant bucket list for years. Finally got to cross another off when I went to Sardi's. Sardi's is about theater and film history -- from the entrance, to the upstairs to the dining room itself. Old. School. The best part of the experience was getting to chat with the gentleman who worked in the coat room. I always tell people who come to our wonderful city to talk with people who work various places. Sometimes, you'll get treated to an amazing story, as we were that afternoon. My friend and I had a mid-afternoon meal before our evening performance. He had a salad and I had a club sandwich. We could imagine show producers having their meetings surrounded by drawings of famous actors and personalities. We loved the surroundings -- and the food was fresh and delicious. I may have crossed this off my bucket list, but doesn't mean I won't go back again! Definitely plan to.

I'm a native New Yorker yet I've never been to Sardi's?!? So I went. We did lunch before a Wednesday matinee. I love OLD NYC, so this was right up my alley. I had reservations and was sat right away. My one complaint was we waited 20 minutes before anyone came over. We were given two our drinks comped so thank you for making it up to us. My drinks were delish. I ordered the turkey club ( it was really yummy and fresh) and Hubbs got the burger and it was cooked just right. I loved people watching and seeing all the pics on the wall. Upstairs was cool too, and I spotted Kermit. LOL. I love MERCH so I bought a T-shirt. I don't know what everyone is complaining about, it's ICONIC. I'll be back!

We went last night and had a res for 2 at 5. The food was ok. Barely ate the crab cakes. Our waiter was awful. Never checked on us and b came non existent. Place was way over rated! So disappointing. Won't be back

Fun experience with the servers treating everyone like they are very special. It's not as expensive as you'd expect for that either. Even though it was packed, it wasn't too loud to talk. Got us in and out for our show.

I hate leaving bad reviews, but this restaurant is a landmark and I'm very upset by our experience there. My husband and I are visiting NYC for the first time in many years. I had last dined at Sardi's in the 1990s. I used to love it! I'm a big fan of theater and classic film, so Sardi's was high on my list for this visit. We were there from 7 to 9 PM on Friday night. The place was almost empty the entire time, which should have been a red flag when we walked in. It used to be packed all the time years ago. Only three other tables were occupied while we were there, and now I know why. I will say that the service was excellent, we loved the staff that we met. I had a glass of wine and my husband had a beer. My husband was a professional chef for decades, and I have worked in many restaurants as a server and hostess too. We noticed that the menu was all very outdated, 1970s type dishes (menu was not what is listed on Open Table). The waitress told us the specials, including soups of the day. She was very nice. Then the bread service came, if you can call it that, which consisted of a man coming over and giving us each two small slices of toasted yet ice cold crusty bread on our side plates, using tongs from a basket that he carried around. It was so tough, I couldn't chew the crust. It was a cold winter night, so I ordered the lobster bisque and my husband had the chicken and rice soup to start. My husband's soup was completely cold. My bisque was hot, but tasted more like tomato soup than lobster. There was NO lobster meat in it, but a hint of lobster stock flavor. For dinner, I ordered the shrimp in lemon cream sauce with jasmine rice. My husband ordered a cheeseburger with fries. My shrimp was so tough and overcooked that I could barely chew it. The sauce was tasty, but broken and gritty. The "vegetable" was just some diced tomatoes in the sauce, and the dish was topped with a ton of chopped basil (too much). I made my husband taste a shrimp and he said they seemed to be reheating pre-cooked shrimp that you'd normally serve as cold shrimp cocktail (which was also on the menu), and reheating a pre-made sauce. Lemon cream sauce is ruined when it's reheated too much. My husband said his burger was also terrible, and clearly a frozen patty. The burger bun was too chewy, so he didn't eat it. He ate the patty with a fork. The French fries were the best thing we received all night. All of this cost over $160 - two drinks, two cups of soup, and two entrees. No dessert or coffee. I'm INCREDIBLY sad to see that the current management is destroying an American icon that has been open for over a century. Mr. Sardi is probably rolling in his grave. The history of this place, and the wonderful caricatures, deserve better and should be preserved. This was probably the worst meal I have ever had in a restaurant. Very sad. I hope the owners will fix it!

Service was a bit off, very slow and disconnected. Food was kind of mediocre. Cool place to look around at pictures but overall I would t return. Best thing we ate was the mashed potatoes.

Went as a reward for a long few days of work. Was an easy walk from the Marriott Marquis Times Square. Loved the place - perfect ambiance and awesome caricatures of Broadway famous and not-so-famous that lined the wall. Was fun trying to pick people out while we dined. Food was delicious. I had the Onion Soup au Gratin to start and it was divine. Main course was Spinach Cannelloni au Gratin. Cooked to perfection! And as I almost always do, I got the Cheesecake. Yum! All the food was perfect and I will definitely be making a return trip to NYC, if only to eat here again.

Sardi's was once the place to be seen if you were a celebrity in NYC. Now, it is an accessible and classic venue to enjoy a taste of what once was while being close to so many Broadway shows. The menu isn't expansive, but there is something for every type of eater (except vegans--you'd really be limited but I am optimistic they'd accommodate as best they could). Service is impeccable. Our waters were refilled, orders taken quickly, checked on often, and not rushed, despite it being a pre-theater meal. Our food was great and since I have been here many times, I can attest to the consistency of the food. While you're there, make sure you walk around, which is encouraged, and try to identify the stars in the caricatures posted all over the restaurant. We dined upstairs, which gives you a great view of the street and hustle and bustle. The restrooms are upstairs, but there is an elevator for those with mobility issues. This is a must-try, at least once, when in New York City for a show or just because.

The food was real good .The service was lacking at our table ,seemed the tables around us got very personal service . We had to ask for everything starting with a napkin several request for water ask twice for dessert menu .

We had such a lovely meal at Sardi's. I've wanted to go for years but they were closed for renovation. Our server was delightful and knew exactly what to order. I had the spinach cannelloni combo one with beef. Piping hot and delicious. The bar is gorgeous as is the dining room. And of course all the drawings of celebrities. They stay open late for the after theatre crowd.

Food was brought out the way we all ordered it. My friend had the Caesar Salad. I had the shrimp salad and my other friend the turkey club. My salad was very fresh and honored my request for ice berg lettuce. There was 4 shrimp, chilled and cooked correctly. Everyone else's food was exactly the way they wanted it. Service was a little bumpy when we first got there because it was 45 people. But once things calmed down, service was very attentive. My friend wanted to take the rest of her salad home. The waiter by mistake, threw it out. They gave my friend a complete new salad to take home. All in all, everything was fine. The walls were decorated with caricatures of all the Mayor's of NYC, along with famous singers and actors. This restaurant is a true iconic dining establishment dating back to the late 40s. True nostalgia

Completely lucked out grabbing a table for four just between showtime starts for Broadway! It's been on the bucket list for years growing a huge fan of Broadway and the legendary Sardi's lore and did not disappoint! The food was absolutely delicious and service so attentive! Taking in the caricatures and trying to identify became such a fun game where time passes quickly. The cocktails were refreshing but could be a tad stronger. The lighting stays bright so you can take in the stars adorning every corner! Sardi's made for a wonderful evening with dear friends in the City!

This place is an iconic Broadway stop! Great atmosphere and fun pictures hang on the wall. The food is good and the service is great. A fun place to go when you want to get dressed up and hit the theatre! We enjoy it every time.

Great find with no wait across the street from Broadway theater. The food was excellent - we started with the spinach and meat cannelloni. I had the lentil stew with roasted Brussels and polenta and my boyfriend had the bolognese lasagna as our entrees. Both would be graded with an A if this were cooking class. No dessert that night because we were stuffed. 4star rating was due to how tight the seating was in the restaurant. I may not go back if there are other places to try but Sardi's is worth at least one meal.

An overall amazing experience. The restaurant is gorgeous. The servers are so attentive. I got the spinach cannelloni au gratin and it was truly amazing. Finished dinner with a crème brule cheesecake which was equally delicious.

Sardi's is iconic. I remember my first time for the cast party of A Lie Of The Mind when I was a freshman at NYU. My mom came here as a girl back in the 40's on show days. Over the years, I've been back from time to time. But as of late, the restaurant has definitely dimmed its Broadway lights and chosen to rest on its name being the attraction, not the food, service, ambience or joy (which there seemed to be little of, especially among the employees.) It started out great. We got seated early, which was a plus. A server came by to say that someone would be by in a moment with water and to get our drink order. Then ... (tick, tock) FIFTEEN MINUTES went by before anyone came by with water or for anything other than to pass us on the way to wherever. And, the sad part was that they weren't particularly busy. There were several empty tables near us and no line at the door. Service lacked severely. For instance, when they brought the main entrees. My husband had to flag someone down (twice) to get a knife for his shrimp cakes. And then they gave him a steak knife for something that should have been served with a regular dinner knife. There were a lot of long waits all about, such as to order coffee and dessert (which by that time half the downstairs dinner room was empty and they were moving around tables or something. But not a lot of dinner guests or any justifiable reason that we needed to be flagging someone down for coffee, dessert, the check ... ) The food gets a B-. After 100+ years, it's inexcusable that the filet mignon medallions come out at two completely different temps, one was a perfect med rare, the other was borderline medium well.) As for the ambience. If you didn't know you were in an iconic place, famous for its once hustling and bustling A-list stars and the glitz and glamour of Broadway, you'd think you'd have stumbled in to some average, old and not particularly inviting any-restaurant. If not for the caricatures that adorned the walls, you might not know it was famous for anything or a place that is so celebrated, despite Naomi Watts sitting at the table over from us or an actress from the heyday of 20th Century theater royalty across the room. Even the staff seemed sad to be there and trudging through. What they did get right, they really got right. The med rare filet mignon medallion was mouthwatering. (Not sure where the hint of horseradish in the potatoes was ...) The prosciutto melon was delish, as was the salmon asparagus. Was disappointed. Fortunately for them, my husband was not as disappointed, otherwise, I might not have gone as quietly into the night.

If you haven't been you need to go at least once. It is a bit expensive for the food but the atmosphere makes up for it. Not cheap for not so great food but love to see all the caricature drawings.

Looking for a great place to eat across from the Schubert Theater- this is the place. We decided to stop by for lunch before our matinee and were seated immediately. Service was a bit slow but if you're not in a rush it was good. There are caricatures of famous people lining the walls. They range from actors to politicians which make for interesting conversation. We spotted most of the New York State Governors on the wall. The food was delicious. I ordered the glazed salmon with sweet potato puree and for dessert the tiramisu torte was nice. FYI the menu was diverse with burgers and sandwiches.

Right in the midst of broadway chaos. Very expensive! Food IS good. But not for that much money. I was stunned abt the drinks menu to be honest. $15 for a glass of Riesling. I don't think the bottle costs that much. And to top it off it's not the standard wine glass size either. It was kids first time at a nice restaurant so we did enjoy ourselves. Lots of celebrity sightings in the past apparently. We asked our waiter to take a pic of us and he said the corner near us is where Al Pacino sits every time he comes. They don't seat anyone else near him to give him privacy. Place is designed with caricatures of famous people. Service is great. You definitely need to make reservations. Great place for a date night it's say with lotta $$$ :)

I've been to the Palm...I've done most the restaurants in restaurant row...have done Ellen's Star Dust Diner and all those other restaurants that you frequent when you're doing dinner and a show. But this is the first time that I've ever been to Sardi's and it was classic New York. What more could you ask for. Nights like this are so fun! My uncle and cousin asked me to dinner and a show as a special surprise for my aunt. We stopped at Sardi's for dinner before the new Neil Diamond show "A Beautiful Noise". It was such a great evening. Sardi's is the New York you see in the movies. A crowded dining area with rowdy theater folks coming for a bite to eat. Growing up I loved watching the Muppets take Manhattan and always dreamed of coming here and it was everything I thought. Right up to when I saw Kermit's picture upstairs en route to the restrooms. Our meals were here tasty, but nothing too special. Obviously it's a bit on the pricier side, but it's worth it for the that classic New York experience. The lemon sorbet was a nice way to end a very hearty meal before a show. Service was excellent and exactly what you would expect. This place is a well oiled machine and if it ain't broke don't try to even fix it.

Good food, better service, great atmosphere but it's a little bit rushed. It's a fun time though eating where so many of the stars are.

As famous as Sardis is in New York and is as they call it, "the longest running show on Broadway" I was amazed at the quality of the food. The attention of the Wait staff. It was a wonderful experience. Philip.

The ghosts of Broadway Past haunt the rafters here so if you want to have an imaginary conversation with Bob Fosse or Patti LuPone you're right where you need to be. Sardi's is the quintessential review proof institution where you have to dine at least once. They easily could have mailed it in but the French onion soup and steak tartare were both excellent. This is a short one, I'm expecting the spectral remains of Neil Simon in five minutes. Five easy stars.

I don't remember the name of the dish I had but it was good. It was like an enchilada floating in cheese. Our waiter didn't want to recommend anything but cautioned that some dishes don't come out as expected. We were told to google them to hopefully find photos online. The caricature drawings on the wall were fun to look at but the decor is a bit old. The formal atmosphere is a bit overkill. Nothing about the menu is incredibly gourmet so why the fancy decor a waitstaff attire? I didn't need the attendant in the bathroom either staring at every move I made. I'd go back and get that exact dish again but i can't recommend anything else.

Going to a show then it's like you can't have Broadway without Sardis. The restaurant has been around and a broadway staple for 100 years. Actors and actresses and shows producers have all dined here.Server Cassie and Maitre D Naseef always make sure everything is perfect for me. Canneloni. Club sandwich or burgers are good as are the salads.The Shubert organization knew the importance of Sardis returning after the pandemic and allowed them to go rent free for the 21 months they were closed. Pre or post theatre and the bar stays open for lighter items til midnight.

When in the theater district of NYC, a visit to the iconic Sardi's is a must! This venerable restaurant has been serving guests before and after the show for decades. The walls are covered in characitures of Broadway stars over the years...some you may even recognize! The food is Italian. Hearty, delicious and promptly served. Servers are friendly and efficient. Dinks are good. Wine selection quite suitable. Price point moderate.

Disappointing! Used to come here years ago specifically for the crab cakes. Today, 90% filler. It was actually like stuffing. Two recommendations don't order them as a customer and for the chef take them off the menu. We shared the cheese tray which we enjoyed with the toasted bread. The cream of asparagus soup was also very good. The Caesar salad was very good with the blacken shrimp. While the spaghetti bolognese was okay it would have been better with a little more sauce. We were with a group of 15? We chose Sardi's over Jr.s and we're clearly disappointed. After being seated we waited longer than expected for a server. We won't be back. Good news the show "Some Like it Hot" exceeded our expectations!

The service was wonderful. Our waiter was so nice and attentive. The food was fresh and delicious. It is an icon for the theater however, the prices are over inflated. I realize it's all about the nostalgia and atmosphere so you have to include that. Would we come back? Probably. Would we we recommend it! Absolutely

Same as it ever was. The place for pre theater cocktails and world famous onion soup. Where the server says "enjoy". We came before a show. The handsome, friendly bartender made an excellent martini, the soup was delicious. If you are from NYC, you have certainly been here. If you are visiting, this classic is a must do. True to NYC, I always feel like thie staff is looking down at me, probably because the first time I was here I was a 16 year old from Missouri, thrilled to be served a daiquiri. And I am sure they were snickering at us kids playing "New Yorker". So of course 5 stars. PS they still have a bathroom attendant! When I told her I didn't have any cash, she said " oh I'm not here for the money" It is possible she recognizes me over all these years?

Conveniently located for my date with Corey Stoll next to the Hayes Theatre. First time at Sardis, we hit the upstairs bar with some friends Michael and Loften who are old pro's at this. Big strong Martinis made by experienced and solid bartenders who can do this blindfolded. A caprese and a shrimp cocktail with the Martini tided us over through the play next door. Average appy was $26 so not cheap, we easily dropped a hundred before Corey took a deep breath next door. All part of the theatre experience darlings.

The highlight of our recent trip to New York was our dinner at Sardi's! It would have been enough to just peek in at the famous historical gathering place for stars and celebrities but the service and the food exceeded my expectations! White table linens, staff in neat red jackets - yet the mood was relaxed and casual- no need to dress up unless you felt like it. We got there just as the crowds headed to the theater left and we were able to take a good look at all the caricatures of stars lining the dining room. So exciting! Even our server, Kyle seemed excited to be working in this landmark restaurant. The food was excellent- I had the crab cakes which were perfectly cooked and plated with an amazing salad that I could eat every day. My husband had a burger and said it was the best he'd ever had! What a complete delight! Don't miss Kermit the Frog upstairs!

We have been dining at Sardi's for years mainly because of the excellent service and Shawn and Ivan making us feel at home! We were very disappointed to find out they were no longer with them but we were quickly met with a very pleasant surprise by the new maitre d, Betsy. Young, fresh, caring and genuine, she made us quickly feel right back at the home away from home that we remember. My husband and I agree that seeing a manager genuinely care about not only the customers but staff as well brings a whole new level to hospitality. Our server, Brandon, was also a great team addition. He was kind and attentive and even sent us a dessert! Although some of our favorite items were no longer on the menu, we had a lovely experience and are excited to return to the new and improved Sardi's!

If you're dining here, you know why -- it's a NYC icon. And with that comes a hefty price tag. So, as long as you make your peace with that before you enter, then everything else will be fine. The service is incredible, everyone dressed to the nines and ready to make sure your water glass is always full and you have everything you need; the drinks are strong and delicious, which is nice if you're going before the theater (enjoying a more civilized cocktail rather than drinking out of a sip cup later); and the food is classic. I had the Cobb salad and while it wasn't the best I ever had in my life, it was still delicious and perfectly presented. You'll definitely need a reservation, especially if you're coming on the weekends.

Food was fantastic and the service was better than that. We went to the Labor Day Parade and on the way back we stopped at Sardi's ,it's been awhile since we've been there we got there just as they opened and enjoyed every course. There is a lot of locals that go there so it's not too touristy but it is still popular with the tourists but not as much as Carmines at the corner. Enjoy it we did

Stopped by for a quick drink on our way to the theater and we were very impressed! Delicious, generous drinks served quickly and with a smile! And the feel of this iconic restaurant felt steeped in Broadway history! Can't wait to go back!!

It was fun and what I was looking for. Old school Broadway pre-show vibes. Celebrity characatures. Professional staff. The food was good, but the ambiance was great.
