Anyone who follows my food reviews are well aware that when it comes to Sarino, I'm a fan. If you aren't familiarizing yourself with their dinner menu, you're doing yourself an injustice. BUT, I have something new to talk about.
Sarino brunch.
I'm ashamed to admit that it took me so long to try it. I don't even think that I'm being biased in saying that it's the best brunch I've had in Louisville. On risk of negating the level of class and service, I would feel amiss if I described it as anything less than effing phenomenal.
I came in this morning-ish with my husband and two toddlers. We were sat in a booth and John, our server, helped guide us through the menu. He was personable, professional, and he didn't steer us wrong. I think of myself as a bit of a Benedict connoisseur, so I was glad he mentioned it. We typically gravitate towards savory, but we wanted to add something sweet for the kids. We ordered the following-
Prosciutto Benedict --
ciabatta, prosciutto di parma, poached eggs, calabrian chili hollandaise, crispy potatoes
Breakfast Pizza --
basil, mozz, breakfast sausage, eggs, crispy potatoes
- add Calabrian honey
Cannoli Waffles --
sweet ricotta, chocolate chips, fresh berries, powdered sugar
The Calabrian chili hollandaise really stood out. It added the perfect level of spice. And by stood out, I mean...your crispy potatoes will serve as the perfect vehicle for making sure there isn't a drop left on your plate. I loved everything about the prosciutto Benedict, but this wasn't a surprise.
Full disclosure, for an Italian food lover, I'm embarrassed to say that I'm not generally impressed with traditional pizza as much as I should be. But the fresh basil, chunks of sausage, the eggs (over easy); pizza has never been so delicious. The star here was the Calabrian honey. Sweet baby Jesus. If spice isn't your forte, it's not for you. For everyone else, don't skip it. Trust me. If they sold it in jars, I would eat it on everything.
Lastly, I ordered the cannoli waffles for the kids. I can count the number of foods I don't like on my fingers. I'm a food lover. But, I have yet to meet a waffle that I would give a second thought to...until today. The waffles are yeasted with lemon and ricotta. Lemon and ricotta. I typically give the littles whatever they want. They're my kids. But, I've never eyeballed a stack of waffles more closely to ensure I was cutting them into equal portions.
My husband took my two-year-olds left over slice of pizza. Undoubtedly sucked on, all the toppings removed, and he slathered it Calabrian chili sauce and devoured it. We were gluttonous and it was perfect.
Sarino brunch, I think I love you.
