We ordered a little bit of everything to start off our morning. We’ve drove by this place many times as we’ve lived here since the beginning of time.. once we walked in, we found Beautiful plants that are well loved. A younger lady greeted us with the biggest smile and told us to have a seat anywhere we’d like. A younger gentleman then took our drink order and brought us pretty decent coffee… He seemed like a sweet young man. I overheard him tell a regular customer that he was getting ready to go into the Air Force I believe… It was nice to witness such an intimate conversation between them. You could tell the young man was busy as he needed to get too many tables however he still took the time and had this conversation with this older gentleman… Respect and manners goes a long way. I wish nothing but the most success for this young man. Anyways, back to the food.., We ordered the chicken and waffles, which were amazing. The chicken that came with it was thin and seasoned. The waffles were thin. It was a perfect ratio. We ordered the cheesy grits which tasted just like Home. The breakfast potatoes were also on point. I seriously am counting down the days till when I can return.

The food is absolutely amazing. The rib plate combo is a crazy good deal even in 2025. They're so well cooked, especially the crunchy cartilage. Had a hard time actually deciding on what to eat because everything sounded so good.

I’ve been here several times and I’m long due for a review. I came on a Thursday for lunch and the wait was not too bad. The servers were friendly and I was seated quickly. I ordered the Jambalaya and it was very tasty. The Jambalaya came with homemade cornbread and that went well with the Jambalaya. Most of the dishes I’ve had here were good and I would come back to try the other menu items. The servers were attentive and I stayed hydrated!

Our first time here for breakfast and it’s a Gem of a place! Very clean, music on point and we got there before the rush. We had hot chocolate, then i got scrambled eggs with country potatoes and corned beef hash, and my daughter got the Monica special (omelette). The portions matches the price and the food was scrumptious!

If you're looking for a Classic B Grade Diner Experience, you won'tbe disappointed! I stop here wherever I'm in town. Yesterday was Pork Chops, Cheesy Grits w/Biscuits & Gravy. The Grits and Biscuit Gravy is as good as my own. Today's variation was a toss-up between Ham and Catfish. Went with the Ham!

Somewhere new to try. And it delivered. Busy place. Food was tasty.

Google
I am in LOVE with this place! The service was kind and warm. The food was hot and DELICIOUS! One of the best southern restaurants I've been to outside of living in the south. The fried chicken was perfectly seasoned and crispy. The greens...OH the greens! Perfectly cooked and just salty enough! Gumbo was on point. Can't say enough about how great this place is. Definitely on my favorites list.

Google
Sarom's was a super favorite of mine until I was dining out with a friend and we both found a hair in our food. We didn't cause a scene, make a fuss or even demand a comped meal. We just asked for a replacement. Upon leaving, I asked for a small side of gravy to go with the biscuit that was replaced due to the hair and the server told me he'd have to charge me for the gravy. That was the last straw. After finding a hair on my plate but still being understanding, I couldn't get a small to-go cup of gravy on the house. I haven't stepped foot in Sarom's since. And its a shame because the food is so delicious. Their peach cobbler is one of my favorite desserts in the whole city. I would encourage anyone to go, just inspect your plate first.

Yelp
Sarom's Southern Kitchen is a charming, family-owned gem offers an impressive variety of breakfast and lunch options that cater to just about every craving. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, the staff are consistently friendly, and the food is always delicious. Whether you're in the mood for a fresh salad or crispy chicken and waffles, there's something for everyone on the menu. I've visited several times and somehow never got around to leaving a review, until now. On this visit, I ordered the catfish with cheese grits and scrambled eggs, along with a steak sandwich and fries. Both dishes were hearty, flavorful, and hit the spot. Even though we had a party of six, we were seated quickly and our food arrived in good time. The service was smooth and attentive, just as it always is. One of our group ordered the chicken wings, and wow--crispy, perfectly seasoned, and absolutely addictive. Easily a 10/10! If you're looking for a place that feels like home and serves up consistently great food, this spot is a must-visit.

Yelp
I truly meant it when I said "I'll be back tomorrow". We went back before heading out to the Sate Fair. Once again, we were seated as soon as we arrived. Even though they were busy, they were fast and food was delicious. Today we had the country fried steak and bbq burger. 100/10. Cheesy grits were perfectly cooked with the right amount of salt and perfect blend of sharp cheddar. The steak was tender, crunchy and smothered in that gravy that I'd drink from a mug!! Eggs were perfectly cooked as well. The burger smelled amazing. The Kid said it was better than a well known soul food restaurant here in Sac. I'd have to agree. The restaurant is owned by a lovely family. I got a chance to chat with the owner, a proud mom who's been there for 10 years. Her daughter and daughter in law are both there and so nice. She has to be very proud. There was another family who were trying it for the first time. I had to recommend the biscuit and gravy and the grits. I hope they enjoyed it. I give it a 10/10 again! See you next time

Yelp
The breakfast was great! Had a chicken and veggie omelette with a side of delicious grits. The service was excellent and the layout of the restaurant was nice. There were booths and tables. I'd highly recommend Sarom's.

Yelp
Thanks to my friend for bringing me here! I come here with her when we are craving spicy chicken and waffles because this is the place to get it at. The spicy chicken and waffles are so good. The chicken is perfectly spicy and flavorful and the waffles are delicious. The restaurant can get pretty busy so keep that in mind. Parking can be kinda annoying when it does get busy but it's worth it. The staff are nice and they keep it decently clean.

Yelp
We had lunch here on a Friday. We were immediately greeted with a smile by a very friendly man who invited us to pick any table. The sense of hospitality lasted the entire time we were there. It's a small, unassuming place with dated decor like framed landscape paintings, fake plants, & rooster tchotchkes along the window sills. Music from a radio played 60s music. There can be charm in a nostalgic, older, authentically worn space with taped up booth seat material that shows how many have enjoyed their meals here, & are still comfortable. We saw friendly interactions with who appeared to be regulars & staff. Service was attentive. We got checked in on & helped by multiple people. There was a lull between the first meal and the second meal being brought to the table though. The restaurant was clean & tables were cleared quickly. The restroom was well maintained. We ordered a Shrimp Po'Boy with Fries & a Catfish Po'Boy with Potato Salad. Everything was yummy. The shrimp was tender, the catfish wasn't overcooked, & both were tasty. The bread was soft & not too crusty. The sauces used as condiments were delicious! The catfish po'boy did have issues with ingredients sliding out & was drippy with all the vegetation. The toothpicks were definitely needed to try to keep it together. The fries were savory with a nice crisp from the beer batter. The potato salad was mild & creamy. I was amazed at how big chunks of potato stayed intact because they were such a soft bite. There is a small parking lot that was almost full, but there is also a little street parking as well.

Yelp
I use to love this place, but they've burned me too many times. I went for breakfast, ordered biscuits & gravy and it seemed like they microwaved the biscuit it was so hard. Another time I got a shrimp po boy that literally only had 5 shrimp, I though po boy was just in the name not in the execution as well... not to mention there was coleslaw AND lettuce on my sandwich, that's not right.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite breakfast spots to go to in Sac. The service is always friendly, the staff does a good job managing the wait time and the food is bomb. I haven't had a miss yet while coming here. The parking can be a challenge, they have a tiny lot outside of the restaurant and if that is full there is some street parking. Hot N' Spicy Chicken and Waffles - We opted for the chicken wings this time and they were seasoned well, crispy and came out fresh. This dish comes with 2 nice sized waffles and they are fluffy and delicious. This really is one of the better places in Sac to get chicken and waffles if that is a dish you enjoy. Brisket was on the daily special the day we visited so I opted for that as my protein choice to go along with my country potatoes, eggs, and biscuits and gravy. All of those were very good but the brisket stole the show. Everything about it was done very well. The coloring showed freshness and good quality and it had a good fat ratio. It was tender and juicy! Kudos to the chef back there because they really did their thing with this dish. If you see brisket on the menu, order it! This was better than a lot of the BBQ places around here. It definitely did not disappoint.

Yelp
Sarom's.. one word, delicious. Convenient parking (lot), speedy service, fantastic expectations (90 minutes seating max per table), casual seating and inviting staff. The tables were spaced out well enough to not hear conversations from others which was nice. The sweet tea, the hot n' spicy chicken & waffles, the jambalaya.. DELICIOUS. The chicken was damn juicy and my mouth waters just thinking about it. My experience was simply delightful and I'm absolutely coming again the next time I'm in Sac. Nothing brings people together more than good food!

Yelp
Family owned and operated, this spot is popular for breakfast and lunch. Old school decor, plain and simply. Came for the chicken fried steak. The order came with grits that were tasty with great flavor. The CFS was large in size and although it was a bit soggy, the flavor was good. I did find the gravy lacked some flavor. The service was good and prices reasonable. Located near the freeway with a small parking lot and adjacent street parking.

Took pur order promptly, very friendly. When our food arrived our jaws dropped-WOW! I rate my experience-10/10. The location: easy to find staff:amazing food:amazing (took me back to my big mom's kitchen). Atmosphere: a place that makes you feel like home. A diverse community! Yelp
First time here, you have to get the steak sandwich wow! So delish!! The service was great, all the food was so good! The restaurant was clean and had a very southern feel. I want to try other things that look so good. I'll definitely be back!! Don't miss out on this little gem!!

Yelp
UPDATE: knocking it down a bit. This last bust was just "meh". Service was indifferent and food was average. Maybe it was a bad day, but it was 2.5 stars really. Now days, with food so costly, I hope they step up their game. Long time local spots like this need to stick around, and just being average isn't enough anymore.

Yelp
I drive by this location occasionally and I am so glad that I dined in. This place serves the best gumbo in the Sacramento area. I also really enjoyed the fried chicken and waffles. I was able to substitute for thigh meat, which is what I prefer. The jambalaya was just okay. I had better at other similar establishments. I will be back for my gumbo and fried chicken cravings.

Yelp
What a fantastic experience! I was home visiting for the week, and my parents decided to take myself, hubby, and sister out for breakfast. I'd driven by this place on previous visits, but it is very easy to miss as you're flying by on Arden blvd. So imagine my surprise when it turns out this is a full service restaurant serving up some tasty, home cooked food. When entering, you're greeted immediately, and depending on the size of your party, they will prep a table for you. Since it was 6 of us, they quickly moved a couple of 4 seater tables together. I remarked to my sister that we didn't need that much space, but that was before I got my order. Starting with my dad, he ordered cheesy grits, scrambled eggs, ham, and a grilled English muffin. My mama ordered chicken and waffles (specifically chicken wings). My sister ordered fried catfish, two fried eggs, and biscuits with sausage gravy. Hubs ordered scrambled eggs with American cheese, 3 pancakes, with a side of bacon. And I followed my mom's lead and ordered the chicken and waffles. Folks: WE DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH ROOM FOR THE FOOD The portions are insanely huge, fresh, piping hot. And absolutely full of flavor. We shared food around the table, while taking sips from our mason jars filled with water, oj, Diet Coke, and several cranberry mimosas. The meal was outstanding and I can't wait to return!

Yelp
Friendly staff workers. Which I believe are all the original owners of the restaurant. Always greeted upon arrival. If you're looking for the traditional moms and pops vibe cafe breakfast meals, Sarom's is the spot! They have a big selection of options on their menu. You can sub a lot of things differently they have options! I love a spot with options. Food is good never bland, over cooked, dried, or old. You can tell everything is made fresh and comes out fresh. Their portions are huge and loaded. Their chicken and waffle is a crowd pleaser for sure. Can never go wrong. Hot sauce and syrup provided at every table. I did a build your own traditional breakfast and you get a side as well and I chose biscuits and gravy that I forgot to capture. But just the sides I got with my meal was like a meal itself. A bowl loaded with the biscuits smothered with the gravy. You'll always leave this place sure full and fulfilled. I like how they do a contactless checkout. They give you an option to do QR checkout and pay online and you're about your way.

Yelp
Visited this place for the first time today and what a treat! When we arrived, had about a 20 minute wait which is reasonable. From the time we ordered to receiving our food was 10 minutes! Amazing and appreciated because we traveled from Stockton to eat. We loved every selection on the playlist. We enjoyed CatFish/Cheesy Grits and eggs; Jambalaya w/cornbread muffin; Nashville Hot chicken sandwich and an order of chicken wings. Everything was delicious and savory. Very flavorful. I will surely return soon!

Yelp
My friend and I brunch. By brunch I mean we BRUNCH! He picked the place and I came for the food. Let me tell you, I was ready to stay. Holy moly cheese cheese cheesey yummm grits. I could not go to Sarom's without getting a bowl of grits. Grits are a comfort for me. Those passed the vibe check, gets the highlight, gets circled, just wows. My omlette was exceptional and those taters were crispy just the way I like em. My friend got the jambalaya. He was blown out the water. Your coffee cup will never be empty! Servers were very nice. Parking was substantial for how busy they are! I recommend! Please support!

Yelp
Such an incredible location I came here for some lunch with the girls, and the staff was super friendly. We were seated right away. Food was incredible. It felt like the ultimate comfort food. The chicken was crispy super flavorful and cooked two perfection. I would definitely recommend here.

Yelp
A hidden gem. Just a little restaurant but the food is amazing. I've had their shrimp and grits before a while ago and it was so good I've been waiting to come back. His and got a HUGE pull pork sandwich. Came with shoe string onion rings on it and the fries they serve and battered waffle fries. The ranch is good and everything was spectacular. I got Monica's Favorite Omelette and it had house made pico de gallo on sour cream that was ridiculously good. Chicken and mushrooms and peppers in the omelette. The side I got was the cheesy grits and some fruit and my god I want more already. The coffee was good and strong but the cups are small, worth it though. They were so attentive and sweet inside. Please go and try their food , you won't regret it.

Yelp
Went to this restaurant for breakfast. The food was wonderful and the service was fast. The menu had a lot of delicious choices. Every plate from the kitchen looked great. We will be back soon.

Yelp
Quaint little place, family friendly, diner feel. There is flavored coffee creamer. The food came quick, nice and hot. Staff was friendly. It's a great spot for a nice breakfast.
google avatar

Yelp
A new favorite, prob the best home style southern style food in the area in my humble Opinion. Haven't had food like this for awhile, welcome to the area! And the prices are great. Staff is the BEST
google avatar

Yelp
This place is just so good! I don't think I've had anything bad at this place. I had fried chicken. So Juicy and crispy. The biscuit was buttery. The gravy is addicting. The mashed potatoes were so buttery. I've had the shrimp and grits too. Amazing. One of the best, low key brunch places.

A N.

Yelp
So glad I finally tried this place! Who knew a chicken breast could be so big! The collard greens were tasty with a touch of heat. Delicious biscuit and gravy but since I ordered cornbread on the side, that got eaten first. I WILL be going back and trying the bar-b-que chicken next.
google avatar

Rita C.

Yelp
The fish was not good it was greasy and not crispy, the coffee was cold and the tartar sauce was terrible
google avatar

Yelp
Good mom and pop style Great food and service. Will definitely return when cravings hit.

Yelp
Every time we're in Sacramento, we love coming here for breakfast! The food is delicious with generous portions. The staff is always welcoming and attentive. Kevin was our server this time and enjoyed the easy conversation and jokes. Food comes out hot and quickly. We recommend sharing a biscuits and gravy for the table. Our family favorites include the chicken and waffles, the fluffy pancakes , and omelettes .
google avatar

Sara E.

Yelp
Small restaurant big on taste. There's almost always a wait and it's well worth it. Excellent food in large portions. Meat is smoked on site. My favorite greens in town- spicy and meaty. My second favorite biscuit and gravy place after Zebra. Looks exactly like it did pre-COVID. Glad they made it!
google avatar

Eric C.

Yelp
Had brunch here with friends and food and service was amazing! We got the chicken and waffles, catfish and omelette and pancakes and they all tasted really very good. Came here early enough before it got too busy but service and ambiance was impeccable.
google avatar

Rob L.

Yelp
On St. Patrick's Day, THIS was the corned beef I decided on and was NOT disappointed! Made in-house, the corned beef in the hash was NICELY smoked and the Grits and biscuit and sausage gravy were also made fresh and hot! When stopping by, there's always great friendly service and old-school R&B playing! Do not miss!!
google avatar

Yelp
This place serves real Southern comfort food. I finally found a spot that makes authentic jambalaya. I mixed the cornbread with it--phenomenal. The chicken and waffles were also on point, and the food came out fast. The owners were amazing, and the flavors took me straight back to my grandma's cooking. For a moment, I thought I was in Louisiana. I'm honestly surprised it's not Black-owned, because this is true Southern delight. I'll definitely be back. When they first opened, they used to give out small sample pies--but they don't do that anymore. Still, the owner was incredibly kind and surprised us with a banana cream pie on the house.
google avatar

Danielle N.

Yelp
When you walk in, you feel like you're walking into your Gma's house. You feel loved and their food proves it. Our waitress I believe was the owner, or their daughter. She was so unbelievably kind. She treated us, like she treated this man, who you could tell is a regular. Everyone knew him. We ordered sooo much food. So much goodness. Chicken was seasoned perfectly- heavenly. It came with two large thin crispy waffles. Gaaaaawd. The cheesy grits... gooooodness- I had to get my own Oder bc I did not want to share. The banana cream pie... my lord. We will most definitely return. Oh... I can't forget about the potato's. Cooked to perfection. This is a family owned establishment and I'm so happy to live in the area.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious and sooooo flavorful!! I had the shrimp and grits... Absolutely delicious! The chocolate peanut butter pie was killer too Everything was spot on...I can see why this place is hoppin for sure.

Yelp
Sarom's has really improved on their food quality and taste. Service from the staff and Sarom herself, has remained the same, friendly and hard-working. I remember my first visit when they just opened for business, and sadly was disappointed with my breakfast, despite all the good reviews. I had skipped some years before finally going back to the cozy little diner. I've had the shrimp and grits, chicken wings and waffles, collared greens, mashed potatoes and gravy, and their fried catfish. I've yet to try any of the BBQ items. Each time I've gone, the big smoker out front has not been in use. I can't remember if they have cornbread on the menu, but I think that should be an automatic side! Her sweet potato pie is delicious. The shrimp & grits, fried catfish, and gravy were very good. Chicken wings were nicely fried but needed more seasoning. Waffles are flavored with cinnamon and are thin and soft. Don't expect a giant fluffy Belgian waffle, so I did appreciate that 2 waffles come with the order. I didn't like the texture of the mashed potatoes (way too creamy), but that gravy saved it! Greens were good too. You will usually find Sarom walking around the dining area and checking on each table. She is a genuinely sweet and humble person. I had asked where she was from and her culinary background (I hope I'm re-telling her answer accurately). Surprisingly, she got into cooking Southern cuisine only after her daughter took a trip to New Orleans, and said she should learn how to cook that region's food. So she did and has since been enjoying local success as Sarom's Southern Kitchen! Support local, small, woman, and Asian-owned business!
google avatar

Elena B.

Yelp
The place is very clean. The service is excellent and that food is amazing! their biscuits and gravy are so good when they bring them to you. It looks like a bowl of soup.
google avatar

Michelle C.

Yelp
This place is so good! I've been on a corned beef hash kick lately and have been trying this dish at various restaurants. This place is the best so far. Their country gravy was to die for! The service was really excellent, very attentive. Ambiance is diner style, no muss no fuss. I will definitely be back to eat here again.

Tom K.

Yelp
They should probably take shrimp off of the menu and how does a catfish get this thin? Maybe the filets are cut in half? . I wanted to like this place but the window sills are thick with accumulated dust and the plate that my meal was served on was so old the finish was scratched off of it and made it look dirty. Sorry. The people seem like nice folks but the place is very worn and the food caused me digestion trouble.
google avatar

Badyella M.

Yelp
Food was great had the cheesy grits eggs with catfish and a waffle on the side.. small family owned quick fast service and the location is easy to find
google avatar

Yelp
When you pull up to the parking lot and see the massive smoker taking up 2 parking spaces, it's already a good sign. Being in a plaza, parking was a bit dicey but we were able to secure a spot with a little patience. The interior gives you a classic diner feel, unassuming and authentic. There was a line but we were still able to get seated pretty quickly. The staff were slammed but still did a good job of getting to everybody. The menu had a great variety of soul/bbq options for a cheaper price than I've seen most other places in Sacramento. We ordered the spicy Chicken n Waffles & the Rib Lunch combo which came with St. Looks style ribs, rib tips, fries, and a massive cornbread muffin. Overall the bbq was fall-off-the-bone and had a delicious sauce, and the spicy fried wings were juicy with a great crunch. If you're looking for great bbq for a good price, don't sleep on Sarom's.

Nahema H.

Yelp
I have been to the restaurant several times since I wrote this review. Definitely would recommend going to the restaurant to eat. The breakfast is excellent. Go early because they fill up quick. Excellent mom and pop spot with really good food and service.
google avatar

Mike Z.

Yelp
Good food and good service. Real local place with solid offerings. Shrimp and grits had excellent grits. Chicken and waffles had noteworthy waffles. Chicken fried steak was just ok but the biscuits and gravy were amazing. The entire work staff provided friendly and timely attention. If you want some salt of the earth food, this is a great place to seek out! Will be returning for more when I visit the Sacramento area.
google avatar

Jasmin J.

Yelp
Was craving chicken and waffles at a decent price point and this place delivered! I opted to get the spicy chicken and it was the perfect balance of sweet and spicy. The chicken was so crispy and the waffles were fluffy, just the way I like them. Honestly, this will be my go to spot when I am craving chicken and waffles in Sacramento in the future. Overall the service was good! We went on a Sunday after church and I was expecting to wait much longer than we did but after about 10 minutes we were able to be seated. This place does have a smaller dining room than some other places so if you are coming with a party larger than 4 people you may want to call ahead. Overall an excellent hidden gem with delicious and well seasoned food.
google avatar

Tien N.

Yelp
Food was decent nothing special, disappointed when I was told the chicken would be spicy because the person serving us was Thai, and it was not even mild. Place was quiet and easy to have a conversation. Server did'nt seem to happy.

Yelp
Came by Sarom's Southern Kitchen for the first time! For the two of us, we ordered: -collard greens: a bit salty -cornbread good: need to eat fast or the bottom gets soggy -biscuits and gravy: heavy, so be carefu. -sausage, eggs, and creamy grits: good, solid plate -catfish and shrimp plate: catfish had no bones which was nice. Shrimp was ok -mac and cheese: a bit too saucy. Slightly overcooked Overall, huge fan of the value here. Lots of sides you can order and share with a big group. Excited to come back in the near future! Be aware of how carby you are ordering, because these foods definitely hit HARD. Parking in the plaza if you're lucky!

Yelp
Unfortunately our second dining experience here at Sarom's was a disappointment. Complete 180 from our first in-dining experience. We did a to go order this time of breakfast sandwiches, one on croissant and one on sourdough. Both eggs were massively undercooked and the cheese was just tasteless. The hash browns were soft and undercooked, similarly to the sweet potato fries It's safe to say we won't be back for a while...if ever.

Yelp
I loved it here! The food was delicious and the serving size and prices were great in my opinion. The Food was fresh and exactly what I expected. The service was fast and friendly. The restaurant was small not too many tables inside, a nice little mom and pops spot with great menu options and prices. I ordered the cat fish that came with coleslaw and fries, but I substituted for the collard greens. Like I said above. I was satisfied and would definitely be back. I wanted to try their peach cobbler but it was sold out for the day.
google avatar

Martha R.

Yelp
The food tasted and looked phenomenal, and arrived quickly shortly after ordering. The staff were very attentive and nice too; I really loved the family-owned/mom and pop feel of the restaurant. I ordered the waffle combination and it was so tasty. I liked that the waffles were not Belgian waffles either as they are at other restaurants.

Yelp
At first, we were slightly afraid of entering the restaurant, it is not in the greatest part of town. The outside also appears to be slightly worn from its age. The inside showed its age but everything was clean and the collection of decoations made you have a warm country feeling. The food was out of this world true country home cooking. It was so amazing we had to go back again the next morning. The service was amazing, warm, and true quality hospitality. For the first breakfast, we had corn beef hash, cheesy grits, and chicken fried steak. The next morning we tried the fried porkchop, biscuits and gravy, and again the cheesy grits. They were all amazing and this place is a must-visit!
