I’ve been here multiple times throughout the last 4 years and every time it doesn’t disappoint at all. The go to is their fried catfish is perfectly seasoned and the breading on it is not to thick it’s thin and crispy it’s the second best thing on the menu in my opinion and you have to pair it with the side of Mac’n cheese and collard greens. They have THE BEST collard greens in the city. The collard greens is the best thing on the menu. The chicken and waffles is amazing perfectly crispy and seasoned well not too spicy I’d say it’s a good contender against Roscoe’s chicken and waffles in LA. The biscuits and gravy was hella good. The gravy is very flavorful and not overly floured it’s a great consistency not too thick or runny. The omelette is huge so you definitely get your moneys worth with that. I don’t have much to say about the pancakes a lot of places can make a great pancake, that doesn’t mean it was bad it just an item that can’t really be messed up. If you’re thinking of coming here please do but make sure you get here before 11:30am it gets packed and busy until around 2pm. They don’t have any restrictions on when they start serving lunch. The full menu is available no matter what time you arrive. They are also available on DoorDash.

We have passed by Sarom's in the course of our adventures many times and have noticed how busy it seems to be. That’s a great sign that the food is good, prices are reasonable, or both. We tend to eat outside of the busy hours and found it to be about half full. Dining area is basic. No fuss booths with tables and chairs filling the middle. We both ordered omelettes and chose the option of biscuits and gravy over toast. These were probably some of the BEST we’ve had in quite some time. Very fluffy, not dry, savory gravy. Hubby chose country potatoes and I chose grits to accompany our meals. ( grits were meh) Then we ordered two waffles to share. Sounds like a lot but our plan was for leftovers. This is where the breakdown happened. Our food arrived strangely in random order. First came a biscuit with gravy alone. I love to eat my biscuits and gravy mixed with my meal. Not as an appetizer. About the time we finished, the waffles appeared. Then later, the omelettes, arrived one at a time. As two foodies, we have a certain way of going about our meal. First we do savory, then end with a waffle or similar like it’s dessert. I guess this was an eat dessert first day. Coffee was never refilled and check backs didn’t really happen. As for the food, it was great! Tasted wonderful and cooked exactly to order for a reasonable price. We had plenty of leftovers. Servers seemed to have been short the day we visited which definitely impacted our experience. Food. Just. Trickled. In. Yes. We will be back if we are ever in the area and ready for good food in hopes that the service we experienced was just an anomaly and not the norm. Servers were very friendly when we interacted with them. Btw… their restrooms are exceptionally clean!

Incredible Southern kitchen nestled in the del Paso heights area. This is feel good, family food with no shortage of butter, biscuits, and heart. Got my order to go, but even the to go was packaged with consideration and care. The gumbo was what brought me here, and it still looks just as good in the to-go container at home as it would have in a bowl in-restaurant.

This should be a five star review but service this Sunday was below basic. Resturaunt wasn't very busy for a Sunday (we've been before and have had to wait), but today we waited at the door for quite a while with four clean empty tables visible. They did say sorry for the wait when they seated us, saying that they needed the time to clean tables. Food here is good and the prices are reasonable, but quality has gone down recently. We discovered the Southern Kitchen during the pandemic and have been three or four times a year since 2021. Today we felt invisible. No one was rude, but they didn't check on us, never filled drinks (we ended up asking, but had to ask twice to actually get refills) and the place wasn't hopping, so we couldn't understand why we got the cold shoulder. Was it because we had a three year old with us? Because there were multiple families with small kids and they seemed to be getting the love. Anyway, Southern Kitchen is on probation with our family. And the biscuits and gravy were terrible today too. Shame.

Google
I am sad that I did not visit this place long ago... It was a dining delight... every menu I we ordered was a 5 in taste and portion... I had take home (to the Bay Area). I was anxious to dive in and continue my dining experience... I reheated the grits and they returned to perfection (because they started out that way!)... The waffle was fluffy and hot. The bacon was thick and meaty. The WHOLE chicken wing was a welcomed treat... Next time... and SOON... I will include photos. Due to popularity, there was a short wait- worth it! The service was great! Attentive, but not intrusive... Oh... best of all the prices are very decent and ample portions... Treat yourself!

We ordered a little bit of everything to start off our morning. We’ve drove by this place many times as we’ve lived here since the beginning of time.. once we walked in, we found Beautiful plants that are well loved. A younger lady greeted us with the biggest smile and told us to have a seat anywhere we’d like. A younger gentleman then took our drink order and brought us pretty decent coffee… He seemed like a sweet young man. I overheard him tell a regular customer that he was getting ready to go into the Air Force I believe… It was nice to witness such an intimate conversation between them. You could tell the young man was busy as he needed to get too many tables however he still took the time and had this conversation with this older gentleman… Respect and manners goes a long way. I wish nothing but the most success for this young man. Anyways, back to the food.., We ordered the chicken and waffles, which were amazing. The chicken that came with it was thin and seasoned. The waffles were thin. It was a perfect ratio. We ordered the cheesy grits which tasted just like Home. The breakfast potatoes were also on point. I seriously am counting down the days till when I can return.

Google
Our first time here for breakfast and it’s a Gem of a place! Very clean, music on point and we got there before the rush. We had hot chocolate, then i got scrambled eggs with country potatoes and corned beef hash, and my daughter got the Monica special (omelette). The portions matches the price and the food was scrumptious!

Google
The food is absolutely amazing. The rib plate combo is a crazy good deal even in 2025. They're so well cooked, especially the crunchy cartilage. Had a hard time actually deciding on what to eat because everything sounded so good.

Yelp
Sarom's Southern Kitchen has been on my to try list for a while and finally had a chance to check them out. Arrived at around noon on Tuesday. It was pretty busy but we were able to snag a table. Service was friendly. Wanted the shrimp and grits, but was told they were out. So, ordered the chicken wings and waffle. Friend ordered the catfish. The portions were huge. 2 waffles, 4 chicken wings, 2 catfish fillets. Chicken wings are not usually a go to order for me, but these ones were good. Crispy, moist, and flavorful. The waffles were good too. Friend enjoyed the catfish as well. We had leftovers b/c we couldn't finish it all. Will definitely return as there are other items I'd like to try on their menu, including their desserts.

Yelp
Our first time at Sarom's! The gumbo was hands down the best thing we ordered!!!! Fried chicken was a little burnt. Greens had a bit of kick that I like. I didn't try my husbands corn beef hash but he said it was good. The wait is crazy long even if you go early. We waited awhile for our food as well! Next time we will arrive once they open!

Yelp
The food here is amazing, sometimes it's hard to find a table because of the delicious food and great service. The restaurant itself had a warm welcoming and you feel home. Definitely a good place to visit.

Yelp
This location had really great service! I tried a blended mocha here and it was better than some of the coffee shops I frequent downtown. The location is a home town kind of feel. The decor is very breakfast - if that's a term. The food was good too. We had the chicken and waffles and jambalaya.

Yelp
Sarom's Southern Kitchen is a charming, family-owned gem offers an impressive variety of breakfast and lunch options that cater to just about every craving. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, the staff are consistently friendly, and the food is always delicious. Whether you're in the mood for a fresh salad or crispy chicken and waffles, there's something for everyone on the menu. I've visited several times and somehow never got around to leaving a review, until now. On this visit, I ordered the catfish with cheese grits and scrambled eggs, along with a steak sandwich and fries. Both dishes were hearty, flavorful, and hit the spot. Even though we had a party of six, we were seated quickly and our food arrived in good time. The service was smooth and attentive, just as it always is. One of our group ordered the chicken wings, and wow--crispy, perfectly seasoned, and absolutely addictive. Easily a 10/10! If you're looking for a place that feels like home and serves up consistently great food, this spot is a must-visit.

Yelp
Amazing every single time. Great staff, intimate and comfy setting, delicious food. I love the biscuits and gravy, fried chicken and fried fish. Can't get enough of this place. I come atleast once a week. You won't be disappointed

Yelp
I truly meant it when I said "I'll be back tomorrow". We went back before heading out to the Sate Fair. Once again, we were seated as soon as we arrived. Even though they were busy, they were fast and food was delicious. Today we had the country fried steak and bbq burger. 100/10. Cheesy grits were perfectly cooked with the right amount of salt and perfect blend of sharp cheddar. The steak was tender, crunchy and smothered in that gravy that I'd drink from a mug!! Eggs were perfectly cooked as well. The burger smelled amazing. The Kid said it was better than a well known soul food restaurant here in Sac. I'd have to agree. The restaurant is owned by a lovely family. I got a chance to chat with the owner, a proud mom who's been there for 10 years. Her daughter and daughter in law are both there and so nice. She has to be very proud. There was another family who were trying it for the first time. I had to recommend the biscuit and gravy and the grits. I hope they enjoyed it. I give it a 10/10 again! See you next time

Yelp
Service is great family owned business on El Camino in Sacramento. Service are attentive and nice. Lots of seating.

Yelp
Thanks to my friend for bringing me here! I come here with her when we are craving spicy chicken and waffles because this is the place to get it at. The spicy chicken and waffles are so good. The chicken is perfectly spicy and flavorful and the waffles are delicious. The restaurant can get pretty busy so keep that in mind. Parking can be kinda annoying when it does get busy but it's worth it. The staff are nice and they keep it decently clean.

Yelp
Saroms has a really good menu everything they have is so good. I've tried their breakfast and their lunch and it's my go to place. The service is good too they're always very nice. And the ambiance is a vibe it's clean!

Yelp
We had lunch here on a Friday. We were immediately greeted with a smile by a very friendly man who invited us to pick any table. The sense of hospitality lasted the entire time we were there. It's a small, unassuming place with dated decor like framed landscape paintings, fake plants, & rooster tchotchkes along the window sills. Music from a radio played 60s music. There can be charm in a nostalgic, older, authentically worn space with taped up booth seat material that shows how many have enjoyed their meals here, & are still comfortable. We saw friendly interactions with who appeared to be regulars & staff. Service was attentive. We got checked in on & helped by multiple people. There was a lull between the first meal and the second meal being brought to the table though. The restaurant was clean & tables were cleared quickly. The restroom was well maintained. We ordered a Shrimp Po'Boy with Fries & a Catfish Po'Boy with Potato Salad. Everything was yummy. The shrimp was tender, the catfish wasn't overcooked, & both were tasty. The bread was soft & not too crusty. The sauces used as condiments were delicious! The catfish po'boy did have issues with ingredients sliding out & was drippy with all the vegetation. The toothpicks were definitely needed to try to keep it together. The fries were savory with a nice crisp from the beer batter. The potato salad was mild & creamy. I was amazed at how big chunks of potato stayed intact because they were such a soft bite. There is a small parking lot that was almost full, but there is also a little street parking as well.

Yelp
This place came across my Instagram feed and it is known for its Chicken and Waffles! That is what I ordered, it did not disappoint! They give you two waffles and you can either get four wings or chicken breast. I got the four wings. They were seasoned and delicious. The waffles were crisp big and delicious. The chicken wings were seasoned and fried to perfection. Everybody was able to try my plate. Service was great. And it's a little mom and pop Cafe. I strongly suggest that you try this place. The chicken and waffles for the win!

Yelp
Sarom's.. one word, delicious. Convenient parking (lot), speedy service, fantastic expectations (90 minutes seating max per table), casual seating and inviting staff. The tables were spaced out well enough to not hear conversations from others which was nice. The sweet tea, the hot n' spicy chicken & waffles, the jambalaya.. DELICIOUS. The chicken was damn juicy and my mouth waters just thinking about it. My experience was simply delightful and I'm absolutely coming again the next time I'm in Sac. Nothing brings people together more than good food!
google avatar

Michael H.

Yelp
I've been here several times and I'm long due for a review. I came on a Thursday for lunch and the wait was not too bad. The servers were friendly and I was seated quickly. I ordered the Jambalaya and it was very tasty. The Jambalaya came with homemade cornbread and that went well with the Jambalaya. Most of the dishes I've had here were good and I would come back to try the other menu items. The servers were attentive and I stayed hydrated!

Yelp
Delicious food and great service. Small diner like setting. As we sat down our table was wiped and disinfected, I could smell the slight distinct bleach smell which I appreciate knowing that they sanitize their tables in between guests. My chicken wings and waffles were very good. The spicy chicken sandwich was perfect with the slaw and pickles. Their fries were thick and so good with their thick fancy ranch. All the food came out piping hot which is one of my indicators that this establishment knows what they are doing!
google avatar

Steven S.

Yelp
Great service, good food, a little busy but that's normal for breakfast, would definitely come back and tried different items
google avatar

Elizabeth D.

Yelp
We love Sarom's! All staff are friendly and accommodating. We usually go for breakfast, and our favorites are the chicken and waffles (with 4 chicken wings) and the eggs with country fried steak and grits and a bread (I usually choose the English muffin). You can add cheese to your grits. They have all kinds of hot sauces on the table. The fried chicken comes out hot and juicy! Recently, the coffee was great, and they kept it filled up! Parking can be a little tricky if it's super busy, but we've rarely had an issue.
google avatar

Amy N.

Yelp
First time here, you have to get the steak sandwich wow! So delish!! The service was great, all the food was so good! The restaurant was clean and had a very southern feel. I want to try other things that look so good. I'll definitely be back!! Don't miss out on this little gem!!
google avatar

Mark H.

Yelp
The breakfast was great! Had a chicken and veggie omelette with a side of delicious grits. The service was excellent and the layout of the restaurant was nice. There were booths and tables. I'd highly recommend Sarom's.
google avatar

Steven H.

Yelp
UPDATE: knocking it down a bit. This last bust was just "meh". Service was indifferent and food was average. Maybe it was a bad day, but it was 2.5 stars really. Now days, with food so costly, I hope they step up their game. Long time local spots like this need to stick around, and just being average isn't enough anymore.
google avatar

Ann H.

Yelp
I drive by this location occasionally and I am so glad that I dined in. This place serves the best gumbo in the Sacramento area. I also really enjoyed the fried chicken and waffles. I was able to substitute for thigh meat, which is what I prefer. The jambalaya was just okay. I had better at other similar establishments. I will be back for my gumbo and fried chicken cravings.

Yelp
What a fantastic experience! I was home visiting for the week, and my parents decided to take myself, hubby, and sister out for breakfast. I'd driven by this place on previous visits, but it is very easy to miss as you're flying by on Arden blvd. So imagine my surprise when it turns out this is a full service restaurant serving up some tasty, home cooked food. When entering, you're greeted immediately, and depending on the size of your party, they will prep a table for you. Since it was 6 of us, they quickly moved a couple of 4 seater tables together. I remarked to my sister that we didn't need that much space, but that was before I got my order. Starting with my dad, he ordered cheesy grits, scrambled eggs, ham, and a grilled English muffin. My mama ordered chicken and waffles (specifically chicken wings). My sister ordered fried catfish, two fried eggs, and biscuits with sausage gravy. Hubs ordered scrambled eggs with American cheese, 3 pancakes, with a side of bacon. And I followed my mom's lead and ordered the chicken and waffles. Folks: WE DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH ROOM FOR THE FOOD The portions are insanely huge, fresh, piping hot. And absolutely full of flavor. We shared food around the table, while taking sips from our mason jars filled with water, oj, Diet Coke, and several cranberry mimosas. The meal was outstanding and I can't wait to return!

Yelp
This is one of my favorite breakfast spots to go to in Sac. The service is always friendly, the staff does a good job managing the wait time and the food is bomb. I haven't had a miss yet while coming here. The parking can be a challenge, they have a tiny lot outside of the restaurant and if that is full there is some street parking. Hot N' Spicy Chicken and Waffles - We opted for the chicken wings this time and they were seasoned well, crispy and came out fresh. This dish comes with 2 nice sized waffles and they are fluffy and delicious. This really is one of the better places in Sac to get chicken and waffles if that is a dish you enjoy. Brisket was on the daily special the day we visited so I opted for that as my protein choice to go along with my country potatoes, eggs, and biscuits and gravy. All of those were very good but the brisket stole the show. Everything about it was done very well. The coloring showed freshness and good quality and it had a good fat ratio. It was tender and juicy! Kudos to the chef back there because they really did their thing with this dish. If you see brisket on the menu, order it! This was better than a lot of the BBQ places around here. It definitely did not disappoint.

Yelp
Such an incredible location I came here for some lunch with the girls, and the staff was super friendly. We were seated right away. Food was incredible. It felt like the ultimate comfort food. The chicken was crispy super flavorful and cooked two perfection. I would definitely recommend here.

Yelp
Friendly staff workers. Which I believe are all the original owners of the restaurant. Always greeted upon arrival. If you're looking for the traditional moms and pops vibe cafe breakfast meals, Sarom's is the spot! They have a big selection of options on their menu. You can sub a lot of things differently they have options! I love a spot with options. Food is good never bland, over cooked, dried, or old. You can tell everything is made fresh and comes out fresh. Their portions are huge and loaded. Their chicken and waffle is a crowd pleaser for sure. Can never go wrong. Hot sauce and syrup provided at every table. I did a build your own traditional breakfast and you get a side as well and I chose biscuits and gravy that I forgot to capture. But just the sides I got with my meal was like a meal itself. A bowl loaded with the biscuits smothered with the gravy. You'll always leave this place sure full and fulfilled. I like how they do a contactless checkout. They give you an option to do QR checkout and pay online and you're about your way.

Yelp
Honestly, this is some of the best southern food I've ever had in my life. I only take people I love here.

Yelp
I remember coming here and loved the grits and their country potatoes.... But today they absolutely lost a star because they served me Swai and tried to say it was catfish. I'm offended
google avatar

Marnett R.

Yelp
Delicious homemade taste. Family run. Good service, though be prepared for longer wait times since it's popular with limited seating. Very simple diner feel, but big on flavor. Looove love the fried catfish and greens. Never had a meal I didn't like. The carrot cake is good, but missing the savory spices that typically come with carrot cake. It don't bring down my review since I didn't come for dessert, just grabbed as an afterthought on my way out.

Tannesha G.

Yelp
Visited this place for the first time today and what a treat! When we arrived, had about a 20 minute wait which is reasonable. From the time we ordered to receiving our food was 10 minutes! Amazing and appreciated because we traveled from Stockton to eat. We loved every selection on the playlist. We enjoyed CatFish/Cheesy Grits and eggs; Jambalaya w/cornbread muffin; Nashville Hot chicken sandwich and an order of chicken wings. Everything was delicious and savory. Very flavorful. I will surely return soon!

Yelp
My friend and I brunch. By brunch I mean we BRUNCH! He picked the place and I came for the food. Let me tell you, I was ready to stay. Holy moly cheese cheese cheesey yummm grits. I could not go to Sarom's without getting a bowl of grits. Grits are a comfort for me. Those passed the vibe check, gets the highlight, gets circled, just wows. My omlette was exceptional and those taters were crispy just the way I like em. My friend got the jambalaya. He was blown out the water. Your coffee cup will never be empty! Servers were very nice. Parking was substantial for how busy they are! I recommend! Please support!

Yelp
Sarom's good is awesome. Amazing flavor. It is that good ole fashioned comfort food. The customer service is amazing and very quick and hot. Love this place

Alissa P.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing experience. We were seated quickly, drinks and order taken quickly, food brought out nice and hot to our customizations. Being from the south, its hard to find somewhere with good Southern food in Cali, but we have found our new place to eat! Excited to try lunch and dinner menus next Thank you again to the kind staff for an amazing experience

Yelp
Family owned and operated, this spot is popular for breakfast and lunch. Old school decor, plain and simply. Came for the chicken fried steak. The order came with grits that were tasty with great flavor. The CFS was large in size and although it was a bit soggy, the flavor was good. I did find the gravy lacked some flavor. The service was good and prices reasonable. Located near the freeway with a small parking lot and adjacent street parking.

Sonya V.

Yelp
Food was good. Service was good. Not much re ambiance, but good casual, hearty serving diner. This location wasn't as tidy as the Elk Grove location. Prefer their Elk Grove location=it's tiny, but food just as good, great customer service=made us feel 'at home' and plenty of parking!
google avatar

Yelp
A hidden gem. Just a little restaurant but the food is amazing. I've had their shrimp and grits before a while ago and it was so good I've been waiting to come back. His and got a HUGE pull pork sandwich. Came with shoe string onion rings on it and the fries they serve and battered waffle fries. The ranch is good and everything was spectacular. I got Monica's Favorite Omelette and it had house made pico de gallo on sour cream that was ridiculously good. Chicken and mushrooms and peppers in the omelette. The side I got was the cheesy grits and some fruit and my god I want more already. The coffee was good and strong but the cups are small, worth it though. They were so attentive and sweet inside. Please go and try their food , you won't regret it.

Yelp
Good food and decent service. I wish they were open earlier for Saturday morning breakfast, but it is what it is.

Yelp
Quaint little place, family friendly, diner feel. There is flavored coffee creamer. The food came quick, nice and hot. Staff was friendly. It's a great spot for a nice breakfast.
google avatar

Yelp
Food is delicious. I had the fried pork chops, which were seasoned and cooked perfectly, just the right amount of crunchiness. The service was excellent as well. The only downside, parking is a challenge.
google avatar

Minerva D.

Yelp
This place is just so good! I don't think I've had anything bad at this place. I had fried chicken. So Juicy and crispy. The biscuit was buttery. The gravy is addicting. The mashed potatoes were so buttery. I've had the shrimp and grits too. Amazing. One of the best, low key brunch places.
google avatar

Denise K.

Yelp
Good mom and pop style Great food and service. Will definitely return when cravings hit.

Yelp
The fish was not good it was greasy and not crispy, the coffee was cold and the tartar sauce was terrible
google avatar

Sara E.

Yelp
Small restaurant big on taste. There's almost always a wait and it's well worth it. Excellent food in large portions. Meat is smoked on site. My favorite greens in town- spicy and meaty. My second favorite biscuit and gravy place after Zebra. Looks exactly like it did pre-COVID. Glad they made it!

Yelp
Had brunch here with friends and food and service was amazing! We got the chicken and waffles, catfish and omelette and pancakes and they all tasted really very good. Came here early enough before it got too busy but service and ambiance was impeccable.

Yelp

Yelp
I use to love this place, but they've burned me too many times. I went for breakfast, ordered biscuits & gravy and it seemed like they microwaved the biscuit it was so hard. Another time I got a shrimp po boy that literally only had 5 shrimp, I though po boy was just in the name not in the execution as well... not to mention there was coleslaw AND lettuce on my sandwich, that's not right.

Yelp
On St. Patrick's Day, THIS was the corned beef I decided on and was NOT disappointed! Made in-house, the corned beef in the hash was NICELY smoked and the Grits and biscuit and sausage gravy were also made fresh and hot! When stopping by, there's always great friendly service and old-school R&B playing! Do not miss!!
