Sasabune Express

The food was delicious for a reasonable price. Also 13 mins away from the Getty Villa Museum! They also give parking validation for a discounted price in case you park in the building’s garage. Service was great! Very attentive and helpful. The place is very very small, so you can hear other people’s conversation. So be aware of that. Other than how small it is - I had a wonderful experience. I especially liked that the pen was shaped like a fish 🥹🐠

Hidden gem! Sushi was excellent, quality of the fish really great. The atmosphere is very relaxing and the decor is beautiful with a modern Japanese feel. The prices were very reasonable. We will definitely go back!

AMAZING RESTAURANT!! The service was quick, kind and friendly. The tonkotsu ramen was delicious, and had a scent of African Bones that paired with the mushroom very nicely.

I was a tempted to give this place an even lower rating because I was so disappointed. I got the salmon, scallop, yellowtail, and albacore nigiri with a blue crab hand roll. The salmon and scallop nigiri were good and I would recommend those, but the yellowtail and albacore were off (they even had a smell to them that didn’t seem right). I was hungry so I drenched them in the sauce I was given and ate them anyways. Texturally they were good though. The blue crab roll was the real driver of this review. It was incredibly fishy. I can’t remember tasting sushi that fishy in a long time, especially not from somewhere with such high ratings. I took one bite and couldn’t stand it. Not even soy sauce would mask the fishy-ness, I ended up giving it to my dog so that it didn’t go to waste but much too fishy for me. Will not be coming back here unfortunately.

We love Sasabune Express. It's a wonderful family owned establishment here in Palisades that has fed our growing family through the years. I love that the owner's recognize us and always remember our special requests and honor them without us even having to ask.

Pretty good, the fish tasted fresh, firm flesh, etc. But the rice was a little warm. I had mackeral, halibut nigiri and a spicy (not very, out of a tub) tuna and a salmon roll. Got some take out salmon, looks better than the rolls. The menu could be a bit more imaginative. Evidently there may be items that are not on the menu. Counter was a bit dirty, could use a bit of a spiff on the decor. Busy take out. Definitely not the food you see on the website.

This is the best place to eat in Pacific Palisades by far. Quick and simple sushi and shashmi menu which is really mostly setup as a set price affair for different portion sizes of mixed sushi and rolls. Like Sugarfish in a more traditional environment. Excellent value for the high quality and location. Small place so make reservations or expect a wait for most evenings. Lunch is an excellent way to experience the menu. Street parking at meters or park in the garage underneath which they will validate. Meters are patrolled aggressively. Restrooms. Accessible. Credit cards OK.

Incredibly fresh, tasty sushi! I'm originally from Japan, and for me Sasabune Express is very very authentic. They were affected by the fires so re-opened at Colony in Santa Monica - a super convenient location for anyone on the west side. I got take out and it was excellent!

Amazing, authentic Japanese food. Their sushi is super fresh and reasonable. A fantastic option for dinner or lunch. I love the Sasabune box. Their restaurant in the Palisades was impacted by the fire so am happy to support this, local women, and immigrant owned restaurant!!

It's sasabune but at an affordable price but still with the same touches as the restaurant. I will definitely be ordering from here whenever I need my omakase fix but on a budget.

The BEST sushi/sashimi I had in LA. Ever since I moved here I was either overpaying for good sushi, or getting a good deal (price) and being unsatisfied. But Sasabune was satisfactory in all categories!! Great food, fair pricing, and fast service. Ordering again soon. My favorite were the bowls. Delicious!!

This place is a shining light in a sea of mediocre restaurants. The vast majority of Palisades restaurant options are mid. Expensive and bland. Thank goodness for a place this is consistent and tasty, and it's sushi no less. Anyone who ranks this place below 4 is probably the same kind of person who thinks eating at one of the 500 Italian restaurants in the area is enjoying "exotic" food. Five stars for Sasabune!

Ordered delivery from here and it was some of the best to go sushi I've had. I ordered the Sasabune combo and it came with delicious toro and golden eyed snapper. Crab hand roll was delicious! My favorite is salmon roe so ordered that as well, so fresh and not slimy in the slightest. Just may be my new go to delivery sushi place!

The food was great and the atmosphere was nice. We did't know that they didn't serve alcohol but we went Ralph's near by and got wines. We'll definitely go back!

Sasabune in Pacific Palisades is a tiny but excellent sushi restaurant steps from Caruso's Palisades Village and just off Sunset on Monument. Far better than its rival Pearl Dragon on Sunset and as good as nearby Blue Ribbon, but more authentic. Blue Ribbon feels like a more luxury, bespoke experience. Sasabune is warmer and more intimate. The dining room is quite small, with only five tables and I believe six seats at the sushi bar. When we dined there Friday at 6pm, all the tables were reserved, we found a space at the sushi bar and the host was turning people away. The restaurant quickly filled up with mostly children under the age of eight last night, which I think was slightly unusual, and certainly ended the spa-like serenity of dining in a small, intimate restaurant on a cold January night. That being said, the service was excellent. The host, waitress and sushi chefs were attentive and kind. I ordered a green salad, miso soup, several piece of salmon nigiri and several slices of yellowtail sashimi. The fresh hot green tea I ordered was excellent. My son ordered the "Party of Three" which comes with ten pieces of mixed sushi, three rolls and soup or salad. I prefer the cut sushi or sashimi to the rolls, but all were excellent. My son, not a salad eater, enjoyed the pieces of salad I allowed him to steal from me. The dressing is delicious. And we would have both ordered second bowls of miso soup, but were trying not to be (too) gluttonous. The restaurant is so small that bathroom facilities are shared with other retail tenants of the shopping center. You have to exit the restaurant to use the bathroom. I always ask politely to wash my hands at the small sink near the entrance, and they have always honored that wish. I think (at least I hope) that that is the norm there and that I am not their most chutzpahdik and imposing customer. The room is appointed with light woods and light colors, plants, soothing music. A great experience. (And far better ambience, in my opinion, that Sasabune on Wilshire in Brentwood).

One of my favorite sushi spots in LA. Consistently great fish, friendly enough staff, never been disappointed. Pro tip- bring a bottle of Sake or some beer as they don't have a liquor license. Sitting at sushi bar is my fav.

I'll start by saying Food is Great. BUT- The guy who takes your 'take-out' order is absolutely AWFUL. He's not nice. He's actually very RUDE. Idk how the owners allow him to be the 'face' of this wonderful place. He obviously hates people and there is not a welcoming bond in his body. This is not the first time he's behaved this way when I've come in to order food for my family. I've always excused it because I figure everyone has a 'bad day'.... But he clearly hates his job. He makes you feel like you are bothering him and he's doing you a favor to take your order. It's honestly WEIRD. I guess I'll have to go to another location or just never order from here again. So sad bc food is really good.

Came here in a Friday and this place is always so consistent and delicious and service with a smile so if you can't eat here, my recommendation is do it to go because this place is absolutely the best real deal sushi in Pacific Palisades and not disco sushi with a bunch of crappy sauces so keep up the good work and I will be back again, so thank you and Arigato

Quality fish and excellent service. What more could you want? The nigiri was amazing. The sashimi just as good. What really stood out was the quality of the cut rolls. I focus mainly on nigiri and sashimi, but could eat the two all night towards several hundred dollars worth. I order cut rolls with little expectation except to fill the void. The usual. Spicy Tuna, California and Toro. The quality was exceptional not only in nigiri and sashimi but rolls as well! I was impressed and will definitely recommend to others. This is definitely worth the drive when I'm in the area to avoid the beat down experience at Noma. I will be back!!!!

I think there's a lot of delusional Los Angeles people... The reviews for this place were raving about its fantastic rolls and sushi, however I beg to differ. The only thing you can rave about is maybe the price, and the green tea mochi. Our hunger pushed us to continue eating the food, rather than the taste of the food, if that says anything. Their shishito peppers are incredibly delicious and flavorful! And their spicy tuna crispy rice is the best I've ever had. I highly recommend their butter fish as well. Their fish tastes very fresh.

Got takeout for a late office dinner. This place was so good! Their tamago is amazing! the salmon nigiri was simple, but tasty and the scalop nigiri was soooo tender. Didn't love the halibut nigiri, but that is okay. The rest totally made up for it (especially the tamago)!

Simple menu. Good quality fish. Small, cozy place. The manager (who I think is actually the owner) is friendly. Tonight he was by himself having to serve everyone and managed it very well. I got Combo B and it was great.

Sasabune is a great sushi bar and the express location doesn't do justice to the famous sushi restaurant that started on Sawtelle probably in the '70's. I went there in 1996 and they had very strict rules!! No take out Minimum 4 orders Everything raw!! Boy have they changed!!! Tonight we ordered to go from the Pacific Palisades location. We had Miso soup which was mediocre Spicy tuna on cooked/fried rice cakes-eeehhh Salmon roll that was supposed to be salmon skin with gobo and bonito flakes. Instead I got raw salmon w/ rice Nigiri Albacore Salmon Salmon belly Yellowtail Maguro $70 plus tip Not a good experience and we are very disappointed in the quality and presentation. The chef needs to come back and supervise!!

Best nigiri in the palisades. I always go with their version of an omakase, the "trust me" They haven't let me down yet.

I was so excited to try this place and support a business during covid. We ordered 5 rolls (salmon, shrimp tempura, yellowtail, albacore and a baked salmon). The staff were really nice and the restaurant was clean and the pick up system was efficient. The food however was extremely low quality. The shrimp tempura and salmon were okay but the baked salmon, albacore and yellowtail were bad. The yellowtail tasted like chlorine and none of these looked appetizing. We tried to stomach a few bites and could not make it. I hope it was just a bad night because businesses should succeed during this time but it was pretty bad.

"Spicy" tuna was flavorless. Only 1 ginger accompaniment was given for 4 dishes. Ginger was necessary to add some interest to the food. Sadly, we won't be ordering from here again.

This is my favorite sushi place in all of Santa Monica area. My husband and I ordered the "Trust Me" which was a great selection of fish, all incredibly fresh. I really enjoy their seaweed salad which is served on a bed of a different variety of seaweed with a side of sesame dressing and cucumber. We also ordered yellowtail nigiri, yellowtail belly nigiri, salmon nigiri, salmon belly nigiri, and the highlight of the night was their ikura nigiri which is marinated PERFECTLY and melts in your mouth. In love with this place, very fairly priced, and the portions are great. The nigiri is highly recommended - don't waste your time here filling up on rolls. Lastly, the owner is fantastic; if you have a real big craving for something or you want to impress someone with sushi making skills - you can chat with them about ordering in bulk. Pictured is my last bulk order right before I picked it up.

Love this hidden gem. We always sit outside. We aren't fans of Blue Ribbon so this is our local go-to sushi spot. We order their halibut and yellowtail sashimi, spicy tuna crispy rice (but we ask for less spicy tuna than what they offer), etc.

So underrated! The best sushi on the west side. Try the blue crab hand roll or lobster roll.

I've always wanted to try this place since it's right next to my work. I ordered a tuna roll and a baked salmon roll. Salmon was not fresh at all and tuna roll was just okay. Most sushi places give you wasabi and ginger with your order without you having to request it, but not this place. Service could be a bit more friendlier.

Sashimi are fresh with very reasonable price, only problem they have there for now is short of staff so be prepare for the extra wait time either dine in or take out.

Best quality / value sushi delivery on Postmates. Ordered a mix of rolls and nigiri last night and it arrived packaged perfectly. Similar in quality to the former Sasabune location in the valley called Sushi Don.

I think it's amazing! Trust me. It's amazing! Get the crispy rice spicy tuna!! ! It's expensive (ish) but it's so worth it!!

Stopped for a quick dinner from leaving pacific Palisades village. I've been to Sasabune on Wilshire but this one is more casual style but I love it! Chi rashi was so delicious and it comes with sea urchin! (That's my favorite:-)) Service here was great as well. Highly recommend.

Have been a big and loyal fan of Sasabune Wilshire and Bev Hills so tried their Palisades outpost. I'm actually hoping it's not an outpost and not affiliated with the others because the quality this evening was incredibly poor. We had their priciest trust me option. One sushi course after another poorly and hastily cut with very not fresh tasting snapper, tuna etc tough bad odor and all - while the chefs frantically worked on to go orders.

Love this place! We go often and it never disappoints. Everything is good. Some favorites; baked crab handroll, butterfish sushi, tamago sushi, salmon skin roll, spicy tuna rolls, vegetable roll (we add gobo).

I was very happy with the service and the food we received. They have pretty good combo options as well, and sushi is at an affordable price for being in the Pacific Palisades. I was very happy with the fish, and how fresh it tasted. I have been to several sushi restaurants in the area, and Sasabune Express wins for having the best tasting fish. My only wish is that the portions were a little bigger. Other than that, I was happy with the food and the service I received.

Amazing sushi, great service, and affordably priced. I ordered 'omakase' and they were very tasty and everything was so fresh! We all enjoyed dinner and my daughter loved their udon.

We have been coming to this location for a year now and are never disappointed. The food is always good! The fish is fresh and the service is great. It's not a fancy place and the prices are very reasonable. I'm very picky with sushi and this place is really good. My other favorites are Nobu, Matsuisa and sugar fish. sasabune is still one of my favorites. Not for special occasions but for weekly lunch or dinner.

We were desperate for time but saw Sasabune express - we wanted to grab something quick - but they didn't open until noon and had us waiting outside for 20 minutes until exactly noon. That meant we didn't really have time to eat. Still intrigued by the "express" concept, I tried ordering online while waiting outdoors - which was a broken link. So we had to wait, counting down the time. I'm not sure why this place is called express when it's a sit down restaurant. It's really peaceful and cool inside and the server as well as sushi chefs tried really hard to accommodate our time crunch, but it still took about a half hour and I barely made my appointment. I took off a half a star only because I'd like to see them open at 11:30 to accommodate the early lunch crowd or to make exceptions and allow early customers if they are in a hurry. Maybe even have premade sushi rolls for a grab and go. I took off another half star because the online ordering system didn't work. I'd like to know why this is called "Express," when the other locations around town serve just as quickly? The prices were reasonable for being fresh sushi. It was $50 bucks for two people. If they got rid of "express," I think customers would have more reasonable expectations.

Sasabune is a name that sushi snobs know very well. I was pleasantly surprised to see this place on Yelp when I was visiting the Palisades earlier this week. I was especially excited to try this place because it was $$ instead of $$$$! The restaurant is tiny and it is pretty easy to miss. There is plenty of parking in the underground lot. Make sure you get your parking ticket validated for 30 minutes of free parking! Initially, I was a little worried because there was only one other party dining at the restaurant when I walked in a little before 1pm. However, the restaurant did fill up as I was eating my yummy meal. I ordered the Combo A which came with five pieces of nigiri sushi and a bowl with about 10 pieces of sashimi. I chose yellowtail and salmon sashimi for my bowl. The salmon was very fatty and super delicious. I could have easily eaten a second serving of salmon. It was amazing. The yellowtail was a little disappointing. The fish didn't seem as fresh as the salmon, and it smelled a little fishier than I would have liked. However, for $16.95, this combo was a pretty great deal. Overall, 3.5 stars. It was a good dining experience. It's not worth trekking to the Palisades just for this sushi, but it's a good place for lunch if you're in the area.

While the sushi is good, the guy who runs the counter is unquestionably the rudest person I've ever encountered at a restaurant. Not worth dealing with.

Out with the co-workers again in our daily lunch gathering. Ordered japanese mackarel sushi which came with 2 pieces. Also ordered the shrimp tempura roll with 5 pieces. Lastly, ordered the miso soup. Miso soup was a little heavy, but still had pretty decent flavor. Shrimp tempura was decent compared to cooked sushi from other restaurants. Japanese mackarel was definitely fresh with a nice aroma, tender and odorless. The fish was definitely good quality. Generally, this is a local restaurant and good when we need a change for lunch. However, it's not a place I would dine out on my free time.

I was away for a while because of my work and came back to Palisades n went to Sushi Sasabune Express, What a surprise!!! They remodeled inside out. I loved what they did and new chairs are so cute. Of course, the taste of fishes are always great:)) Happy to be back!!!!

If I could give this place Negative stars I would. It's ALL about how HORRIBLE the service is. I never even got to eat. First there were only 3 tables eating and all the other tables were open and clean. But it was still a major chore to get seated. It was hard even just getting the woman's attention at the cash register. When we were sat, we were told we couldn't have menus yet. The restaurant only had 3 other tables sat. But we had to wait until the other tables finished with the menus before we could use then. 15 minutes later we got menus basically thrown at us as our waitress passed by our table. 30 min in, she has yet to even talk to us and I see her taking TO GO ORDERS... REALLY!?!??? That was it for me. I so wanted to love this place. I love Sugarfish and this seemed so much like it on paper. In real life. Not even close. I don't care how good the sushi might have been, with service like that I will never return.

Love the sushi here both to eat in and for take out! Sushi always tastes fresh, and I'm always impressed by the sushi rice. My favorite offerings are the spicy tuna crispy rice, tuna pre-cut hand-roll, and rice bowl. However, while the miso soup is okay, it isn't anything special. The environment within the restaurant is very comfortable and casual, and service is consistently quick.

What a joke. My partner and I just received take out from Sasabune and we are extremely disappointed. Portion sizes were so small we are both still hungry after paying over $60 for dinner. The miso soup was in the tiniest little container and the seaweed salad was literally only two chopsticks worth. The food was just ok.

Their sushi is always fresh and tasty. Patio is nice and kid friendly. We consistently get fast and great service too. Our go to dinner place for sure!

I went to Palisades Village last Saturday when they open! it was too busy and every restaurant had 1hr wait! came here with 2 more friends and wait 10min to seat. food came out in 5min!!!! we we're there 30min for dinner! and back to the mall to drink. fast service and quick bite!

I went there with my friend, her baby and our dogs and it was great! My favorite dishes were : SUSHI tuna/halibut/sea urchin ROLL fried onions albacore roll APPETIZERS spicy tuna crispy rice/seaweed salad Fishes were pretty fresh and tasty. Cute outside furnitures and pet & kids friendly service. We will definitely go back again!

Just finished my takeout from Sasabune Express and like always my husband and I devoured it before we had time to take any photos. I highly recommend everything on the menu - so perfect and fresh, delicious rice, amazing cuts of fish. Already can't wait to order again.
