"All of the satays at this Greenwood Thai spot are $10, so add them onto an order of drunken noodles or panang curry ($13) and you might even have some leftovers to take home. It’s a fantastic choice for a casual dinner when you don’t feel like changing out of sweatpants." - aimee rizzo

"Weeknight dinners are often better when they’re quick - maybe “your show” is on at 8, or you’ve already hit your daily quota of sharing oxygen with other humans. Satay Bar is perfect for that - it’s a quiet spot for a solo meal, but there’s still some excitement from the sizzling wok soundtrack. Even if you dream about steak all day, you’ll want the tofu satay to go along with some stir fry and noodles." - Aimee Rizzo

Google
I had a disappointing experience at Satay Bar and I would not recommend this Thai restaurant. The menu has significantly reduced due to a loss of staff and many of the popular items are no longer being served (see attached photo for currently available items). The Green Curry Fried Rice that I ordered was a complete letdown -- I got a plain fried rice with no hint of curry whatsoever. It was overpriced at $16, considering the lack of taste and quality. Also my friend ordered Pad See Ew and the carrots were undercooked. I believe this place deserves a 2 or 3-star instead of 4.6-star.

I wanted to give this place a 5 star! Family owned business and I want to give back. They were so sweet. I’ve been wanting to come here for awhile now. We mainly wanted appetizers and drinks and the food did not disappoint. Their alcohol selection is pretty much non existent. Only one beer on tap and yellow tail for wine. We opted out for wine for obvious reasons. Ha! We got some sake instead. Quick service and the main dishes looked promising when others were being served. Cute little quaint spot for a great meal!

We had some Pad See Ew and Red Curry. Both were super tasty! Very friendly staff and very flavorful food. Can’t wait to come back!

Visited here the second time, ordered the seafood delight (yellow curry seafood). The taste is OK, but it still has the same issue as the before - some of the ingredients are not fresh. The calamari has been frozen for too long, I can definitely tell it is far from fresh. The scallops are so tiny they are hard to find. This restaurant tends to use none-fresh and cheap ingredients to save the costs. Small but tidy restaurant with great service. Tried the spicy eggplant with chicken, unfortunately the chicken is overcooked and far from fresh. I will probably give it another try for their good service.

Google
Satay time! After coffee, walking around Greenwood found this Satay place. We just ordered Chicken Satay and nothing else. The chicken was perfect on the stick. The peanut sauce and the veggies in vinegar that came along with it was amazing. Good, friendly owners and staff. Street parking available for this restaurant. Will come back for more!

I love this little spot! The owners/staff are super nice and you can see them cooking in the open kitchen. The drunken noodles are my favorite! You can place orders online for pick up at specific times which is really convenient.

We’ve been living in Greenwood for over a decade. Tried every spot multiple times. If Satay bar is open - go here. It’s BY FAR our go to. The best we’ve had in Seattle, every time. Stop searching. Order here.

Our food was very flavorful with perfectly cooked steak and shrimp. The place was half empty, which ensured we got our dinner quickly! We’ll be back.

Yelp
The food was really so delicious, but the service was slooooow. We were a large group in this small establishment, but we were also the only guests for quite a while. We took a while to peruse the menu and then were seemingly forgotten about while they tended to two other tables who came in after us. Maybe there were a lot of pick-up orders as well? At any rate, it was worth it in the end. The spicy wide noodles in yellow curry with tofu and vegetables ($17) was abundant in flavorful and quantity. Number 3 spicy was legitimately hot (more like a 5 at other establishments), so I'm glad I asked for our server's recommendation when ordering. No complaints from any of our party as far as their dishes were concerned.

Yelp
One of the most underrated Thai spots on the ridge! Some of the most veggie heavy Thai I've been able to find, and truly so fresh. You can see the cooks cheffing it up cutting fresh veggies and whippin up sauces from your seat. SO much flavor in every dish. Good shareable portions. Can even get Thai tea with coconut instead of dairy for a lighter option! We will absolutely be going back.

Yelp
We came in to get a take out order on our way to another commitment. The server, with the short black hair that looked roughly middle-age yelled at us the minute we walked in to sit down and stop clogging up the aisle. When we explained that we actually wanted take out, she told us that we should eat there and just take what we didn't eat home with us. We said 'no, we need take-out, we're ordering for 5 people'. To which she insisted that we eat there and take our leftovers back to the other people. Which we told her we did not want to do. While she took our order, she walked away multiple times to assist anyone else that happened to give her the opportunity to not help us, declining to take the youngest child in our groups carry out until she was asked specifically to do so. Then, she brought out food our singualirly on plates and tried to get us to eat there again and take our leftovers back to the people we were trying to bring food to instead of bringing our people full meals. She even went so far as to ask the children with us if they were allowed to eat at all??? What kind of person accuses a parent of intentionally starving children while that parent is in the process of ordering food to feed to the children...that she didn't want to take the food orders of until specifically asked to do so by that parent? Strangely, while she was aggressively asking the children whether or not they were being abused, there was a couple at one of the only 2 other tables deep down each other's necks. And she was fine with it. Anyway, she then lowered herself to boxing our food up for us. When we got to where we were going, we found out that, despite what we ordered--everything had chicken in it. Which was not great for the vegetarians in the group. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!!!

Parry S.

Yelp
Super friendly staff, great food and prices Def recommend and will go back The satay was amazing and the vegetarian options are plentiful

Yelp
This place is special. Pat, the owner/chef, knows his stuff. Every dish I've tried has been excellent.

Yelp
Great yellow curry noodles and eggplant dishes, and friendly folks working there! Would come back and try other dishes too

Yelp
Satay is such a great little Greenwood spot. I'm so glad they're still open after the pandemic, though it looks like they're mostly doing to-go orders these days. They do have a couple of tables on the sidewalk as an outdoor option. Everyone that works here is incredibly nice and service is always friendly, whether you're eating there or calling in an order. If you do dine in, the service is awesome. This isn't street-style Thai, but Thai staples. We love the Green Papaya Salad, the Crispy Garlic Chicken, and all of the curries and noodles we've tried! Everything always tastes super fresh... and their spicy is actually spicy!!! Go and support this local business, Greenwood!

Cynthia G.

Yelp
Very good Thai restaurant. Fast and professional service. Almost 5 stars. I'll recommend this place to my friends!

Aimeé P.

Yelp
Delicious flavor and very fresh. Friendly service. Small, clean restaurant! Make sure you look at the updated menu on their website.

Yelp
SOLID THAI FOOD! This place has good tasting Thai food at a reasonable price. The servers here are really humble and friendly and the food comes out quickly. My girlfriend and I came here on a Sunday evening and the place was rather empty and quiet. I don't know how this place is on other evenings but it was pretty nice with it not being too busy as this is a fairly small establishment and shuffling around other tables would have been a challenge otherwise. We were immediately greeted upon entering a d were quickly seated. We ordered the fresh rolls with peanut sauce as an appetizer which were incredibly delicious. There were only 4 on the plate but they were by far bigger than what most thai restaurants usually serve so that was nice. We also ordered chicken satay woth peanut sauce and although it was good, we were slightly disappointed that there were only 4 skewers on the plate. We had visited before (on another Sunday evening) and there were definitely more skewers then (maybe 5 or 6?). The panang curry was incredibly delicious and I would definitelgly recommend it to anyone. The pad thai here is OKAY and nothing great. It was a little bland and could've had a little more taste and flavor but otherwise it was by no standard bad. Give their thai tea a try and give this place a go. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
This might just be my new favorite restaurant. Bathroom was sparkling clean, waitress and both chefs were incredibly kind and attentive, and the food was DELICIOUS. We had the Garden Roll appetizer which was sliced up into bite size pieces and came with a flavorful peanut sauce. We split the Panang Curry with tofu and Kao Soy with chicken. The menu warns of the dishes that have spice to them. The base spice level was not overwhelming though. You could tell that each dish was made with care and by a talented, seasoned chef. I can't wait to come back and try more!!!

Yelp
This place has great Thai food. I recently had their Pad Thai and it was excellent. They use sauce liberally and make sure the flavor is fully cooked into the noodles. Plus the portion sizes are great. Definitely better than any Thai restaurant nearby within 15 miles. They have reduced their menu recently though, I'm not sure why. But still worth checking out.

Yelp
Friendly service and tasty food=a great combo. Had the drunken noodles, pad see ew and a curry. All were delicious and I especially liked that the veggies were crispy and not cooked to mush. I like that you can choose the meat and so iciness of each dish. My only suggestions is that the portions should be a little bigger.

Janet S.

Yelp
Good meal and they were able to make pad Thai following my dietary needs. Service friendly.

Yelp
From work ran errands, got caught in the downpour, and then made a spontaneous solo visit to The Satay Bar in Seattle's Greenwood neighborhood (5/30/17). Primarily because I'm all about grilled meat on a stick. A bit wary initially, because I was the lone diner, as a group were exiting. The Satay Bar just opened two weeks ago. However, I was blessed with a pleasant wait person who put me at ease by providing great service, served cold water (none of that trendy tepid tap in a bottle), and lively conversation. He regaled me with stories from Buffalo, Berkeley, and Chicago. I ordered one order each of the Chicken and Pork Satay ($8 each). Came with generous grilled skewers, extra peanut dipping sauce and pickled cucumber. Meat was clearly marinated, nicely grilled, tender and flavorful. Sauce was so good, I gobbled up also the iceberg lettuce the skewers were placed on. Couldn't leave the rest behind, pooled it and did a fast shot of peanutty goodness! Photo sent to The Homie resulted in me placing an additional takeout for two more orders of Pork Satay. He ate one order once I got home and the other was requested for his lunch tomorrow. Smart! Chef/Owner hails from Bangkok and was generous providing extra skewers for both dine-in and takeout....thank you! I'm full and content rubbing my Buddha belly! Great addition to the neighborhood and quick bite if you're headed to nearby Taproot Theater. I'm sure they will have to rethink a grand uptick in volume. Especially once folks check them out during upcoming summer events, such as the Phinneywood Art Walk, Seafair's Children's Parade, and the Greenwood Car Show. I can envision satay sticks purchased directly from the front door. I can only speak to the satay for this initial visit. But the focused menu also features salads and other entree items, a selection of beverages and a few desserts. Definitely worth a stop whether for dine-in or takeout!

Mairim Z.

Yelp
Ordered takeout and everything was super delicious and exactly as ordered. Best Thai food on this side of Seattle with great customer service. Definitely recommend the coconut prawns and the pad see ew. Super happy that they had a coconut milk thai iced tea option as well!

Yelp
Delicious dinner at Satay Bar. I had the Satay Bar Combo which included chicken satay, tofu and veggie curry served with peanut sauce and cucumber salad. It was really tasty. The curry sauce was a bit thin, so I'd recommend getting a side of rice for it. I also had mango and sticky rice, and loved it. Definitely will go back next time we're in Greenwood.

Yelp
Dropped by tonight since they are open until 10 and was in the mood for Thai. The place is adorable, and very inexpensive! It's $11 for pad Thai, probably the cheapest in all of seattle and it's SO good! The people working there were very kind as well. I will absolutely be back!!

Yelp
Probably the best Thai food I've had in Seattle so far, which is a heavy claim. Thai food in Seattle is everywhere, but it doesn't vary much, not in quality or menu or content. Satay Bar started off soft and has changed their menu and preparation a since their opening. Today they release a lunch menu with discounted items for $8.99 Today I had the phad see ew which had the perfect combination of sweet, spicy and a good seered wok flavor.

Henry V.

Yelp
Best Thai food I've had outside of Thailand. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, prices were reasonable, and the food was delicious. Do yourself a favor and try it out.

Jan C.

Yelp
This small place packs a good Thai Food punch. Dishes are full of fresh flavor and I appreciate that they don't pussy-foot around with the heat level. Ask for four stars and you get it. Service is quick and friendly. Check it out.

Justine P.

Yelp
The food is amazing however... No hours posted and not open during online advertised hours. This is the 3-4 time this has happened. I love this place so much but I'm losing faith

Yelp
We came on a Saturday night around 8:25pm and the place only had one other customer. The restaurant is small but lovely. I love the open kitchen as it allows you to listen to the cooking and it simply smells amazing. The server is super friendly and kindly checked up on us a couple times to refill water. Overall, we really enjoyed our visit and can't wait to recommend it to friends and family. Chicken satay ($10) 5/5: Great appetizer. Chicken is juicy, and the peanut sauce is lightly sweet, creamy and complements the chicken well. The cucumber salad is dressed with a light and clear sauce which was refreshing. It does help clear the palate after devouring the chicken and peanut sauce. Crispy garlic chicken ($14) 4/5: this dish is made with their sweet chili garlic sauce and is on the sweeter side. The chicken pieces are juicy, crispy, and not over battered. The batter is similar to the typical orange chicken batter. It also comes with a side of rice. Pad see ew ($13) 4/5: good portion and is delicious. The whole dish was evenly coated with their sweet soy sauce mixture. I love that it is not under sauced (which would be too bland) or too saucey (which would make the noodles too soggy and the dish too salty). Perfect amount of noodles, meat, and veggies. They definitely do not skimp on the meat!

Cindy H.

Yelp
This resturant serves one of the best fried rice I have tried, we got a 2-star and it was the right amount of spice. Vegetables were cooked with a good amount of crunch to them. The pad thai dish also was 2-star and although it lacked spice, there was a strong hint of sweetness. Portions were huge even for two people, your tummy will be full! I would say the wait-time at night is around 10 minutes to cook and parking is roughly hard to find as the street parking is always full.

JR S.

Yelp
Ordinarily we love this place. It's fresh, has a decent vegetable ratio in their dishes, etc. tonight was a complete miss. Pad Thai was just maybe burnt? The noodles tasted off, were hard to chew. Another dish, ordered spicy, was just covered in what appeared to be garden variety dried red pepper flakes. No flavor development using the spice and then so spicy as to be nearly inedible. Another dish was just off from what it's always been. Kinda dry, not flavorful. Could have been an off night for the chef, or maybe someone else sitting in. But just disappointing overall.

Lindsey P.

Yelp
The best Thai food in Seattle. Hands down. I have tried all of the top rated Thai spots in North Seattle and Satay cannot be beat. My favorites are the spicy wide yellow curry noodles, their cashew stir fry, the Kao soi, pumpkin curry and their avocado rice rolls! Everything is soooo good. They also have a lot of vegan and gluten-free options.

Sara D.

Yelp
Always delicious and fast. Avocado green curry and pumpkin curry are my favorites, while my partner favors the spicy wide noodles. Kind people. A perfect neighborhood spot.

Tim H.

Yelp
This place serves the best Thai food I've had in Seattle, and at a very reasonable price to boot. Service was slow but friendly, but I have no complaints as the place was being absolutely swamped with carryout orders and most of the tables were occupied. The three ladies working were moving fast and I am amazed at how they are able to keep all the orders straight. The room is nicely decorated and bright and clean, but very small. Parking in this Greenwood neighborhood shouldn't be much of a problem, as you should be able to find a place on the street without too much trouble. The nearby corner of Greenwood and NW 85th is well served by transit as well. I'll be back.

Hikaru M.

Yelp
Stopped by for dinner on a Sunday evening and was promptly seated. Small restaurant but the food was fantastic! The papaya salad, chicken wings, and the pad thai were all delicious! The portions were also HUGE so we had to take a couple of boxes to-go!

Sara F.

Yelp
One of favorite Greenwood spots. We're regulars with Pad Thai tofu and the butterflies. Always delicious. It also helps that they are the nicest people! Great good and a great place to support! Helpings are huge!

Michael R.

Yelp
I live nearby and am always satisfied when I dine at the Satay bar. I have a hard time varying my choice--the crispy garlic wings for the appetizer and the Pad See Ew. Excellent

Kitten B.

Yelp
My absolute favorite neighborhood spot. I know they can occasionally have irregular hours so it's worth calling ahead but it's a small family business that never fails to do a stellar job. Always friendly and caring, and most of all, delicious! #1 choice for Thai.

Jessica T.

Yelp
Best Thai food around! Lots of fresh al dente veggies! Such great flavors and total consistency!

Tressa C.

Yelp
The best food, the best service, my absolute favorite restaurant right now for take out. Their Pad See Ew is so amazing.

R S.

Yelp
Satay Bar is my new go-to in the neighborhood when I'm craving something fresh, healthy, and complex in flavor. I usually order three dishes: a soup, an entree, and noodles. Favorites are Hot Stuff and drunken noodle. Hot Stuff uses sprigs of green peppercorn, which is very unique and adds depth of flavor. Can't find green peppercorn in restaurants much, and I appreciate the deviation from the typical menu. It kind of surprises me that they don't specifically call out some of these unqiue ingredients on their menu. Other folks here have complained of slower service. My advice is to just enjoy the meal and conversation you are having. They are new so they are still trying to balance number of staffing with the ebbs and flow of peak hours. With enough time and enthusiasm from people, I'm confident they'll find their groove.

Rebecca L.

Yelp
Our go to Thai food restaurant in the Phinney/Greenwood area. Spicier than other Thai places so I personally ask for 1 star instead of 2 like I normally do at other restaurants. Our favs are the bbq chicken and Pad See Yew.

Amanda J.

Yelp
Love Satay Bar and wish we had tried them earlier the spice and heat level compliment each other. Appreciate their ability to make our dishes even toddler friendly.

Jasmine S.

Yelp
Lovely neighborhood spot! Delicious flavors and excellent service! The pad Thai, red curry and spicy greens beans are our favorites.

Shawn T.

Yelp
Came here for the first time with my family today and we think it's the best Thai food we've eaten in Seattle. The service was excellent and we will be back for sure.

Cynthia S.

Yelp
I just finished a delicious lunch at this restaurant. First of all rates and excellent food hygiene raining from the department of health. My dish and subtle seasoning and sauce. I would definitely recommend this restaurant, and plan to go again. PS They have warm saki.

May H.

Yelp
This was OK, I don't know that I'll go here again. It depends upon what the competition might be like. I wouldn't hate it, but it is VERY noisy. The restaurant is very crowded, not because of too many customers, but because they sqeeze the tables too close together. There was less than six inches between the tables. You can tell from the first picture, that if there were people seated at the tables, and someone at the counter, it would be impossible for the serviing staff to get to the gate in the counter. That might be one reason why the service was so slow. There were only four tables occupied when I walked in, but I had to wait a long time for the menu, and another long time to get my order taken. The kitchen is right there, in the room, which also contributes to the noise and confusion, in addition to the very bad, assaultive music they play on the loudspeaker. The pad thai noodles and sauce were delicious, but the beef was so tough as to be almost inedible. In other restaurants, when they have to serve that kind of tough meat, they slice the meat very thin, almost transparent, so it's not so difficult to chew. The carrots were undercooked. They don't serve straws with the ice water, but I was never able to catch the server's eye to ask for a straw. Ice hurts my teeth, so I had to eat my meal without water. It was very salty, so not being able to drink water after the meal was a problem. The serving size was good - I appreciate that.

Grace P.

Yelp
What's the point of saying you are open at 11am, when you aren't open. I have try calling the place 3 times and waited for over 30 minutes for it to open. Wasted my time, very disappointed, was hoping to order some food to go and bring a friend here to try the food next time. But, seeing how they don't pick up the phone and aren't open. I guess I may not come back or try this place. Hopefully they change that in the future with accurate time of opening and actually answer their phone!

Brandon M.

Yelp
The staff at this new restaurant appear to have very little clue what they're doing. Although they took our orders quickly and treated us kindly, the wait for food was simply obscene. I could overhear the staff continually deliberating over whose food was whose, despite the fact that the place was not busy at all. Not to mention that when the food did eventually arrive, the order was wrong. Thankfully they didn't charge us for the wrong entrees and they left the food with us anyways. We tried it and decided to cancel the correct orders because the food was bland and under seasoned, despite having a pleasant aroma. Maybe they're still working out the kinks, maybe not. Our server let me know that the chef was the owner and he sometimes gets a little flustered. Sounds to me like he's a skilled home cook that thought he could run a restaurant. Different skill set, dude. Either way, I gave this place a chance and can't afford the time to give it another one.

Brooke O.

Yelp
We have been waiting for Satay to open for months .... We were excited to come try it tonight and came with open minds....our expectations were completely BLOWN out of the water!!! This is the best, most creative, and freshest Thai food I've had... Period. Although the wait staff Is incredible, I highly recommend sitting at the bar to have Pat create you a personalized meal you will seriously never forget ! We had catfish sautéed with lemongrass and green chilli... I cook daily... I've only known catfish to be great with a dash of "deep fry" and Cajan seasoning.... I was wrong...Pat made the best catfish I've ever had without frying or blackening, while using all fresh ingredients.

Don R.

Yelp
Killer fresh rolls. The pineapple curry hit the spot. The avocado curry was also great. On time for pickup and safe socially distant checkout.

Do L.

Yelp
Excellent food, incredibly friendly service, and a nice ambience. The Mango Chicken was wonderful--and it's hard to find at most Thai places. Nice surprise Love it! The prices are very reasonable as well
