Malaysian cuisine in a modern, scarlet-walled room with hibiscus stencils and teardrop lamps.
"A great Malaysian restaurant in Paddington, Satay House has a menu filled with comforting classics in an intimate two-floor space. The street level dining room is where it’s at for small cosy group catch-ups, and the basement dining level is a mini cave that’s ideal for dates. Get the sambal tumis udang petai—a stir-fried prawn and petai dish. It’s equal parts spicy, creamy, and addictive." - heidi lauth beasley, rianne shlebak, sinead cranna
"It was at this Paddington spot (from the people behind Sudu) that we cheated on beef rendang. Because the sambal tumis udang petai—a stir-fried prawn and petai dish—is equal parts spicy, creamy, and addictive. And that’s not all that’s great about this moody Malaysian restaurant. The menu is filled with comforting classics done extremely well, in a cosy and intimate two-floor space. The street level dining room is ideal for small groups, while the basement is where to bring a date or a big group, tucked away in their mini cave." - jake missing, rianne shlebak, sinead cranna
"The sambal tumis udang petai from Satay House provides the comfort of five super soft duvets all piled on top of each other. It doesn’t get more tucked away than a table in the basement of this Malaysian spot in Paddington. Couples split rich beef rendang while dressed in gym clothes, and ‘quick catch-ups’ turn into two-hour feasts involving a kari laksa that will clear your sinuses and have you glued to your seat for the foreseeable. At Satay House they’re not trying to make you feel cosy, they just can’t help it." - heidi lauth beasley, rianne shlebak, sinead cranna
"It was at this Paddington spot (from the people behind Sudu) that we cheated on beef rendang. We have no remorse. Because the sambal tumis udang petai—a stir-fried prawn and petai dish—was equal parts spicy, creamy, and addictive. And that’s not all that’s great about this dimly lit restaurant. The menu is filled with comforting Malaysian classics done extremely well, in a cosy and intimate two-floor space. The street level dining room is ideal for small groups while the basement is where to bring a date, tucked away in their mini cave." - rianne shlebak
"The menu at Satay House, a Malaysian spot in Paddington, is filled with comforting classics—from beef rendang to sambal tumis udang petai—done extremely well, in a cosy and intimate two-floor space. The street level dining room is ideal for small groups, with plenty of round tables for four, while the basement is where to bring more numbers, tucked away in their mini cave. They usually save a couple of tables for walk-ins but it’s a popular spot so book ahead." - Jake Oliver, Rianne Shlebak, Sinead Cranna
