Satdha - Review - Santa Monica - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"If San Francisco owns “Uber for X,” Los Angeles definitely has the “Vegan for X” market cornered. Your favorite cuisine is now available in mushroom, or tofu, or some new engineered soy product complete with beet “blood.” The results are usually pretty easy to hate. So when a legitimately good vegan restaurant does come around, it’s a refreshing thing. Satdha, a tiny Thai place on an otherwise boring stretch of Lincoln, is good vegan. This is where you go to get fresh, flavorful curries and shared plates that make you forget there are no animal products involved. With the exception of their “cashew tuna” (that tastes great, despite tasting nothing like tuna), Satdha doesn’t rely on fake meat - they’re just really good at using vegetables. This is a great place to catch up with friends: it’s casual, not too crowded, and perfect for accommodating dietary restrictions." - Amy Clark

The first time we came here the flavors were so subtle. I didn't even notice what I was missing but the second time the flavors really started to stand out as being unique and extremely well balanced and exquisite, and I was able to taste the vegetables themselves. We love the snap pea salad, and the Ong Choi, the Tom, Yum soup, as well as the yellow curries and lions mane fried chicken. The catfish is good too and filling.

I had an okay meal here, but I feel like this is a one and done for me. The red beat vermicelli noodles were good but not substantial enough for me. I was happy that they weren’t oily, but wish there was more tofu and other ingredients mixed in. Brussel sprouts were nice but relatively small. Bok choy was okay but unremarkable. Ramen noodle dish with tempeh was maybe my least favorite.

Google
My favorite go to vegan Thai dinner. Gourmet food served in a casual restaurant. A gem in Los Angeles, free parking. Excellent food, highly recommended. Every dish was made with care and the ingredients are of high quality. Highly recommended. Chef is trained in the best culinary school in New York. Her constant passion to make better food is clearly reflected in her cooking. Each time I’ve been here, I can see how her food has stepped up to the next level.

Google
here to say - try the Meang Kham!! I rarely like salads, but loved it - it’s crispy, has well-balanced flavors and the tamarind chutney adds the perfect zing! Loved the coconut sticky rice w/ mango for desert too. Other dishes were decent, but not particularly memorable. The Tom-Kha was a little too coconut-y for my taste, and could use more lemongrass.

Delicious and unique Thai food, the vibe is great and the people are welcoming. The endive cups are incredible and the mung bean pad Thai is fantastic.

Google
Had a great time here ! I am vegan and my cousin is gluten free & vegetarian , and they had so many great options ! The staff was so kind in helping us decide on what to order. The food was so flavorful and delicious with great portion sizes, we got the pad Thai and the turmeric curry ramen , plus 2 hard kombucha on draft. I also grabbed a pack of vegan Chocolate chip cookies on the way out that were fantastic. Plus, it was as super close to our hotel which was amazing ! A great vegan spot in Santa Monica ! Would highly recommend.

Google
EXCELLENT FOOD, LOVELY STAFF AND OWNER. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! New Yorker visiting in May with non vegan friends and they loved it too. I’m vegan with access to some of the best NYC vegan food and this rivals many of them. The menu is varied, delicious, authentic and reasonable. The atmosphere is welcoming, casual, clean and simple. We met the owner and chefs and they were so so lovely. I’d be here regularly if I lived close by.

My wife and I are not vegan or vegetarians but good food is good food so we enjoy experiencing it as much as we can. My wife, who is Thai, brought me here after a friend of hers took her and we had a wonderful experience from both the staff and the food. Its a very relaxed environment from the moment you walk in being greeted by the staff to sitting at your table overlooking the ongoings of Lincoln Blvd just outside. I highly recommend this if you are in the mood for some delicious Thai food and even if you are not vegetarian it's a wonderful place to dine with dishes that will delight.

Yelp
Amazing food amazing service. I love this place. The eggplant was out of this world I love that I can see the kitchen and how clean it is

Yelp
Stopped by on a Saturday night around 6pm. It wasn't super busy, but we had a reservation just in case as a group of 5. I haven't had that much vegan Thai food, but was fairly impressed with the entrees overall. Unfortunately, the appetizers were a miss. The grilled oyster mushrooms were cold. Jackfruit pate was just ok. The star of the show was the beet dyed noodles. The flavor profile was amazing. I would come back just to get that dish again. Portion sizes were a bit small. We got the taro tapioca pudding for dessert, which was pretty tasty. It's more heavy on coconut flavor than taro, but still delicious. Service was fine. Water was refilled quite quickly and we were checked on multiple times. The dessert took quite a long time to come out though. We were waiting with the table cleared for probably 10 minutes even though we ordered dessert at the same time as our entrees.

Yelp
5 stars for this delicious plant based Thai food and restaurant that has been around for over 10 years! I was impressed by the presentation and tastiness of these options. The only thing that wasn't pleasant was the smell of bleach when we walked in. They are obviously clean but need to clean and air the restaurant out before people came in to eat. We don't want to smell the bleach which affected the ambiance. Overall the service and especially the food was very good. I would have given it 5 stars if it hadn't been for the bleach smell and the mango sticky rice was a bit dry. Plenty of free parking in the plaza.

Yelp
My husband, a friend and I were looking for a restaurant in Santa Monica, a different experience. We saw this restaurant, and decided to try. The neighborhood is cute around. The restaurant is Dimple and elegant atmosphere. The service is nice, professional and kind. The food is delicious! The soup and chicken are delicious! It is a vegan chicken that reminds the real taste. The price, got Santa Monica, is really good! Also they accept small dogs. My friend loved the small planter on the table and got two for her! The owner made them , and they were very kind to sell them.

Yelp
I am personally not a vegetarian. So I was a little skeptical when my friends suggested this Thai restaurant. But I was pleasantly surprised by the flavorful quality of the Massa Moon curry
google avatar

Yelp
Comfort food, Nice ambiance, not super crowded and friendly staff. I love you all at Sadtha See you soon !
google avatar

Yelp
Overall solid vegan Thai food. We tried the fried chicken which was new in their menu. It was a bit overpriced for just a few pieces but it was pretty tasty. The eggplant and the green curry were solid. They have a small lot which generally has parking. Service was pretty fast.

Yelp
First time having vegan thai food and it exceeded my expectations. This cute thai spot has such a lovely atmosphere and the food enhanced it even more. The Tom Yum soup was the perfect size and a bit too sour to my liking , but I still thought it was yummy! I don't order sour soups as much but I still enjoyed it. The Catfish though. Wow. It's made of eggplant, and I grew up not liking eggplant at all but I think this dish made me love it. The flavors combinations were perfect- with the crispness of the fried catfish on the outside to the softness of the inside that mimicked the texture of catfish (without the smell) and the mildly spicey side they put on the outside. OMG!! I would come back just for this dish. The Fried mushroom "chicken" also had a nice crunch to it but I thought the inside could've used more flavor , but the sweet and sour sauce and cucumber salad helped a lot! Overall our waitress was so sweet and parking was easy to find, i'm too excited to come back here and try everything else!

Yelp
Came here for dinner with a friend and it was just amazing. I have been trying to be better at my choices of food...and this didn't disappoint. It was a light dinner...I had tom yum soup and we ordered the brown rice with Southern Thai Fried "Chicken". All was very delicious, will definitely be back to try other menu items! Staff was very kind and helpful.

Yelp
Satdha is phenomenal. Went for take out and after eating my food (pad thai) was not surprised that it was so busy in there. Friendly service
google avatar

Prem D.

Yelp
Satdha is a plant based thai restaurant for those of you who don't know. It has its own parking so that was one less problem. The ambiance was decent, and the restaurant had a decent crowd. We had ordered Tom Kha soup Tom Yum soup Both the soup were good, particularly Tom kha was nicely done. Mung bean croquettes Grilled oyester mushrooms Khao soi Catfish eggplant None of them were as flavorful as we thought would be, and absolute no spice, then we have to order a sambal, and they charge 3$ for it. Winter melon green curry was very underseasoned. When asked for salt, the server did not understand. Someone needs to come to our rescue. Mango sticy rice Special Ice Cream Both the deserts were good. So the starting and ending was good rest were abysmal does not live up to the hype!

Yelp
Been going here for years. Hands down one of the best restaurants in town. High quality ingredients and attentive survive. Stay golden Satdha.

Yelp
So first off, I'm not a big 100 percent plant based fan. I had a coworker who encouraged me to get wood at satdha ... glad I went. Food was outta the park good. I'm typically ok with veggie based dishes, and this place didn't over stimulate with "plant based fake protein"... amazing flavors. I will revisit

Yelp
Everything we ordered was a hit! Started with the Pomelo & Shiso and Thai Fried "Chicken" off the specials menu. The pomelo & shiso was refreshing and delicious. Never had anything like it. The fried "chicken" was lions mane and it was perfectly crispy. The sauce was also great and the slaw it came with helped balance out the fried. Got the Yen Ta Fo special (pink noodles soup with wide rice noodles. Loved the variety of toppings that it came with. There was crunchy and chewy and flavorful soupiness. Yum! Also my first time having Khao Soi! A little similar with the toppings, but a more creamy, curry flavor. Definetly exceeded my expectations and I'm excited to come back!

Yelp
Every time I eat there I want to eat everything. I'm fortunate to be close by. Here's my favorites: All the curry, the oyster mushroom dish snd the croquette.

Yelp
My wife and I came here for dinner. While waiting for a table, we watched one of the women working there dealing with an upset customer. While dealing with the woman, she was continually wiping her nose with a tissue. After finishing with the woman, she proceeded to grab some glasses and a bottle of water and delivered it to a table, never having washed her hands. She came back, wiped her nose a couple more times and grabbed a bowl, putting her thumb inside the bowl, again not washing her hands. Needless to say to say, we left without dining here. I have no idea about how the food tastes, but am very concerned about health safety practices.

Yelp
We really enjoyed this place and appreciated the fully plant-based menu. The standout was definitely the cashew tuna endive appetizer--absolutely delicious! The beet-dyed noodle dish also deserves a shoutout. We tried the Tom Yum soup and Pad Thai as well, and while they were tasty, we found the portion sizes for all the dishes smaller than expected for a Thai restaurant. By the time we got home, we were already brainstorming snack ideas, which is unusual for us after dining out. Overall, great flavors but could use more generous servings.
google avatar

Marcos S.

Yelp
Fantastic vegan Thai food. Fresh ingredients, delicious. Pleasant ambience and staff, dedicated parking. Reasonable pricing. We can't wait to be back!
google avatar

Miu Y.

Yelp
WOW me and my friend wanted to get vegan food for dinner and we found this place in the area but I didn't expect to be as blown away as I was with how amazing all the food was. The eggplant catfish was one of the best things I've ever had. The service was great and the restaurant seated us very quickly. I neeed to go back

Mike I.

Yelp
Best meal I've had in LA in a long time. Wish I had discovered this place sooner. Get the special broth and noodles, the beet noodles and the fried "chicken". Everything we had was incredibly delicious. Great service too. This is my new go-to restaurant for a night out.
google avatar

Catherine W.

Yelp
Really yummy - all vegan items and really lots of flavor. Really loved the eggplant cooked catfish style and the beet dyed noodles - so much flavor! The oyster mushroom dish was least exciting and a little spicy for me. Also got the Tom kha which was great and tangy! Loved the mee krob- sweet and crunchy! Service was good - the waiters did keep trying to take away plates with food on them but they were super attentive. The space is nice, no outdoor seating. Has its own parking lot which was great.
google avatar

Deeps S.

Yelp
Came back to Satdha recently as I was raving about it - it did not disappoint. Ordered one of their special appetizers (mixed vegetable, thai tempura dish) It was fabulous! Also got the green curry and it was so so good. The red curry paste tofu was amazing - I could eat tons of it. I love how fresh the food tastes here, my only qualm is that the serving size is on the smaller side. Looking forward to coming back to try more on the menu.
google avatar

Linda Y.

Yelp
This place is such a cute little vegan spot. I totally would recommend this place. It's very light and tasty. I recommend the beet noodles. I can't wait to come back again to try the catfish eggplant dish. I'm so happy I came across this place and I'm going to say that the service was so amazing! They gave us great recommendations as it was our first time eating here.
google avatar

Karrie S.

Yelp
Great service! Delicious food in a great little neighborhood. I had my pup with me when I picked up dinner and they were so sweet to my pup and gave him treats while we waiting for our food.
google avatar

Brian F.

Yelp
I love that they're entirely plant-based, and the atmosphere is cheerful (unlike the waitstaff), but it is yet another uninteresting, unimpressive, unmemorable restaurant in Santa Monica. Koa Kling, which purported to be spicy with stinky bean, had very little spice or stink, and portions were meager. Musseman curry was crass, with hunks of potato and no discernable flavor other than coconut.
google avatar

Georgiana P.

Yelp
My friend introduced this restaurant to me. I must say it's the best plant base Thai food I ever tried. The service was very friendly. Nice presentation of food. I'll go back again .
google avatar

Anna M.

Yelp
The Ramen was bomb! The sauce is incredible. I would eat it every day. Sooo much flavor... The mushroom appetizer was a waste though- i wouldn't order it again. It tasted raw. The endives apetizer was alright. Ramen 10/10.
google avatar

Caroline M.

Yelp
Loved the ambiance, amazing service. The food was pretty good! I have to say that, whilst very tasty, most of the dishes I ordered were very reminiscent in flavor to the others. I'll have to go back and order some more dishes and update my review accordingly

Robert P.

Yelp
It's just good food. Forget about "plant based " the is transcendent. It doesn't seem to matter what you order each meal, each sauce, is an exquisite synthesis uniquely designed to excite your senses and redefine what FOOD must taste like! It's DAMN GOOD and I love to cook and eat out! Satdha! Is simply the best tasting food (plant based or otherwise) that this well-tasted foodie has EVER HAD. Hours are four to nine. I rate Satdha as a "Must Chew!"

Sara B.

Yelp
WOW!!!! This is the best Thai food I have ever had plus it is vegan! It is presented so beautifully and the portions are normal healthy sized not American overeat and feel sick size. I like that they have gluten free options too and that they have other meat substitutes besides tofu (like the cashew tuna on endive was phenomenal). The pad thai was so delicious. The service for to go was wonderful they answered all my questions patiently on the phone and let us customize the order. The mango sticky rice dessert was the best I have ever had. It was not make you sick sweet but perfect for those of us who like healthy not overly sweet. The rice was some sort of wild rice so again so healthy and the small portion was again healthy and perfect!!! Who needs a giant dessert? Not this girl! Thank you Satdha we will be back. Also reasonable prices and easy parking in the lot.
google avatar

bryan c.

Yelp
The first time I went, we ordered four dishes, and the flavors were unique; some I liked, others not. For the food, it was overpriced. The ambiance and service were good. This time, I ordered food to go. Again, there were unique flavors, BUT the portions were 1/2 the size of the other vegan Thai restaurant I ordered to-go from. I was shocked. It seems like they increased their prices, which I understand, but the portion sizes seemingly shrank simultaneously. Oh, well.
google avatar

Milena H.

Yelp
Everything is amazing, food presentation is thoughtful and clean, the ambiance is chill and simple aesthetic, service is attentive and caring. I will definitely be coming back. Thank you, Satdha!!
google avatar

Tiffanie T.

Yelp
Loooove this place! My favorite is the yellow curry. The flavor is on point, the veggies are cooked perfectly and the tofu tastes delicious! I also really enjoy their pad thai. It has great flavor and crunchiness with the veggies and peanuts added. I haven't eaten inside, since I found this place during the pandemic, but I am sure it is nice inside. Looking forward to coming back and trying some of the other menu items that are a little different like the beet dyed noodles and jackfruit pate.
google avatar

Mia L.

Yelp
Ooof what a disappointment. Service was slow and disorganized (we didn't get plates, had to flag down for water and utensils twice, told that they were out of forks). Food was also lackluster: pad thai noodles were congealed together with maybe 3 TINY pieces of protein. Chinese broccoli was greasy. Catfish eggplant had no flavor beyond oil and fried. And the portions really were small. Would not recommend. You can get way better thai, and vegan thai, down the street.
google avatar

Dipika A.

Yelp
A friend recommended it and came along. Food was delicious! Had the pad Thai , salad and skipped dessert
google avatar

Carine B.

Yelp
Fast, fresh and delicious. I had the Prik King, Ong Choy and trumpet mushroom salad. 10/10 would recommend.
google avatar

Tina B.

Yelp
Beet Dyed Noodles are the absolute best! Pair it with their green curry on the side and your dinner is set.

Monique M.

Yelp
Unfortunately this is a mediocre vegan Thai restaurant with thee tiniest portions, I was actually embarrassed for them when I saw the pad Thai portion, good grief! The yellow curry tastes like they used the premade paste from Bang luck market, that I myself can do better at home. We ate an appetizer that was served in 4 little sake cups it was tasty but again, literally one leaf and a teaspoon of yum with a cashew thrown in and a delicious chutney...again in teenie portion. The ambience is ok it's right on Lincoln Blvd with small parking lot shared with a massage studio and the whole vibe was a little pretentious. It needs to loosen up serve heartier portions and maybe some music quietly playing. Will I be going back? No. Oh it's open afternoon to dinner hours and the website has different menu options and they don't want you to substitute anything or at least that's what the menu says!
google avatar

Megan S.

Yelp
This is one of my families favorite restaurants and definitely our favorite Thai spot! We come here often for birthdays and special events as well as just because sometimes! The endive cups are amazing as well as the yellow curry, the ramen (if they have it when you go! It's seasonal sometimes I believe), and all the soups are so creamy and delicious. Everything on their menu is amazing, and the chef is always so kind, always remembers us, and is so inspired in the dishes she makes. They really put their hearts into these dishes and you can tell. The restaurant itself is set up beautifully and is perfect for a date night, family dinner, or birthday dinner! Or even for a night out by yourself! They also have beers and wines, as well as great teas!

Sheela D.

Yelp
I came here with my family the other day - we're 3 vegetarians and one omnivore, and we all really enjoyed Satdha! So many "plant based" restaurants mostly just serve mock meat dishes, and I loved that this restaurant just let the plants take center stage. We ordered the eggplant "catfish" (the closest we got to a fake meat), beet dyed noodles, and khao soi. All were delicious and hearty. Service was friendly and very quick. I only wish they were open a bit later (they close at 9pm, but were still packed when we went around 8
google avatar

Charles C.

Yelp
TLDR: 4.5 Stars - great ambience, great service, and the food was really good. We wanted to try this place as it was close by where we were staying at. We ordered a few dishes to try: Tom Yum soup - excellent! A lot of mushrooms! Green Papaya Salad - this was also excellent! great flavor and refreshing! Kow Mun Kai - never had this dish before but this was pretty good, it comes with a small cup of black bean sauce and I poured it all over the rice...I think probably that was too much so maybe next time just using half of it would have been fine. Pad Thai - excellent! Don't miss the meat on this :) Green Curry - excellent! This was loaded with all kinds of veggies and again didn't miss the meat. For dessert we had the salted coconut cream with plantain / banana - this was interesting as it more savory than sweet, not bad, not my favorit and I'd probably try their other offerings next time we are in town.

Mojgan P.

Yelp
We are vegetarians and join our vegan friends at this really wonderful restaurant every few months. the food is always good - the service is always friendly and we are never disappointed. i really recommend this place to all .
google avatar

Suzanne W.

Yelp
First of all, my boyfriend and I are not "fancy" folk. This is higher end Thai food with a price tag to match. Food was deliciously well balanced and fresh, however portions were smaller than what I'm used to. Didn't realize I had to pay for an order of rice to go with my massaman curry as it is customary to be served with rice. Service was great. Though I did notice a man who seemed to be the owner/manager express some strangely dismissive behavior that was a bit offputting. Parking was easy, thank the lord. Overall, the food is AMAZING, just pricey.
google avatar

Frances K.

Yelp
Delicious Thai food 100% plant based. Gunn, the chef owner, is creative and has specials regularly trying different recipes. Restaurant is clean and inviting.

Viewy M.

Yelp
I agree with Brian and others that the service people are icy cold and the owners are.... I shall refrain from using the adjectives I wish to. The food is inconsistent at best. The only positive thing I can say is that they are Plant-Based and that some of the dishes come out nicely...some days.

Catherine Z.

Yelp
saw someone on TikTok and reviewed this place the girl made everything looked so good so i drove an hour to try it just to be disappointed.. we ordered grilled king oyster mushroom and all we got was 3 thin slices of it in a small bed of spring mix for $12.. then my bf got the the green curry rice for $14.. and it was only one cup of rice.. and got the kao soi where there was more broth than noodles in it.. i have tried so many vegan Thai food in la.. my favourite one is called salaya thai i hollywood.. over all this place have no resemblance at all to any other thai food i had.. their dishes its just lacking of flavour.. it was overpriced but such small portions.. sorry this place is a one and done for me..
google avatar

Cheyenne I.

Yelp
the pad thai definitely looks better in the photo reviews than it tastes. i wish i got something else but the lash convinced me the pad thai was better . it simply doesn't take authentic :/ this is a review solely on taste

jill b.

Yelp
The food is so amazing!!! Best pad Thai and yellow curry I have ever had. The service is amazing too, they let you make the yellow curry non-spicy . It also has great ambiance, the restaurant is very clean and nice looking. I do wish they had longer hours though. I can never get this for lunch .

April B.

Yelp
The appetizer was sadly the best part of my experience here. Just god awful service. Server gave our food to another table that had just come in (we'd been waiting for about 20 minutes), the other table's guests ate it, we continued to wait with no staff coming out to check in. Finally, about 40 minutes later, they apologized for the mix up and promised us our food would be out soon. Finally, an hour later, we got our food, which was bland, salty, and barely warm. Totally ridiculous. I do my best to support vegan joints, but I won't be coming back here again.
