The 25 Best Restaurants In Berlin - Berlin - The Infatuation

"Prenzlauer Berg’s Kollwitzkiez area is full of great restaurants, but nowhere does modern comfort food quite like Sathutu. This Sri Lankan restaurant dishes out traditional plates of black dhal and Colombo fried chicken alongside Berlin-style twists like jackfruit cutlets and cod ceviche with red jalapeño. These are the classics, but don’t ignore the fish dish, swimming in a milk curry sauce and balanced on a pile of tomato chutney. For those as indecisive as they are hungry, visit Sathutu on a Thursday for their feast menu, where the meat lover’s, vegetarian, or plant-based plate means you can try a bit of everything for €28. Always kick a meal at Sathutu off with a granita oyster dressed in the colours of the Sri Lankan flag and an (off-menu) tamarind sour." - olivia ladanyi

Good but there’s room for improvement. We ordered -sri lankan croquettes: made of potatoes and jackfruit deep fried with a mustard mayonnaise. They were really well made and tasty - dosa with gruyere: imho the gruyere was not the right cheese for the dosa, it was way too strong and salty. But the dosa itself was crunchy and well cooked. It tasted like they added rock salt or chaat masala on top which made it overall too salty -potato curry: this was the only dish we did not like at all. The potatoes were burnt and bitter, the bitterness transferred to the coconut curry sauce as well. It was also lacking a carb like a bit of rice or paratha/roti to soak the curry. I think it would improve the dish - Colombo chicken: nice and juicy, well fried. A really good dish, one of our favourites - Adler fish: the only complaint was that I wished there were two filets instead of one. The fish tasted fresh, the spiceness of the coconut curry was well balanced with the sweetness of the tomato chutney. Overall a well made dish We ordered as well two cocktails and a miso chai tiramisu which surprised us as it was quite good. Overall a good restaurant but I give 4/5 because it is lacking in some dishes. I see the vision for fine dining but right now, it needs more work to truly achieve the status. I appreciated the effort to make south asian food elevated.

the food was very tasty. we had oysters, croquettes, batura, potato curry, colombo chicken, fish and hoppers. we especially liked the fish and the hoppers. the batura missed a bit of salt. also, the portions could be a bit bigger. we were recommended to order 2-3 items per person. we had 4 each and were still a little hungry afterwards. service was good, but could be a bit more welcoming and attentive. overall a nice dinner experience!

Every dish is beautifully crafted. All different tasty with special sauces. Excellent orange wine by the glass. If you are sharing they serve one dish at a time. Feels like an amazing tasting menu.

We really enjoyed the food. Great flavors - loved the adler fish. Service is also very nice but not well organized (mixed up dishes, needed to remind for missing items). Also the place felt a bit hecitc and cramped. Cutting 1-2 tables could improve this.

This place is absolutely magical!! The food is really unique (there’s something for everyone) and the cocktails are out of this world!! Overall, highly recommend! (The only small thing is it’s a bit cold there, so make sure to dress accordingly)

Very interesting food, SriLankan with modern twists. High quality food with surprising flavours, like a spicy-savoury tomato salad.

Went there with two friends. I was sitting comfortably but the other two were sitting in a quite narrow and cold spot. Atmosphere is the typical cheap Berlin hipster style. All very basic. Nothing even giving a hint to a personal touch of the restaurant. We order 7 different dishes, generally the food was really good. But after we finished the smaller dishes and got the main dishes, we encoutered that they used on two of the dishes the same sauce and flavours we already had with the smaller dishes. That was quite disappointing. Also the dishes were missing a personal touch of the chef. There was no storyline behind the dishes. We had a fun night, was overall a good experience but I would not come back.
