You open the doors to nostalgia. You are greeted by kind and inviting staff, we got seated in the back half, which was great. It seemed like we were gangsters and invited to the back because we belong there! Forget about it........ look, the food was delicious, and the wait staff was on point. Note; This place is not olive garden. This place is authentic and original. If that sounds like you? Then come get full, and enjoy an evening out. There is no charge for the nostalgia.

I had the pizza with pepperoni and lots of cheese! It was very good! I also had the garlic cheesy bread. Very delicious! For dessert I had the hot apple pie with ice cream. Everything was very good! It was cool to see all of the pictures and artifacts about celebrating wichita's aviation history. I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone!

Went for my Birthday 5/29. This was by far the worst Italian food I've ever consumed. Celery was still crunchy. Lasagna was literally 2 noodles with ricotta in between and was crispy like a chip. Was asked if I wanted cheese and was handed dry shake Parmesan. This place makes Fazoli's (fast food joint) look like a 5 star restaurant. I will never, ever return. I appreciate your response, but I will never return.

Google
First timers! We started out with the poppers appetizer which was delicious. Very creamy filling! The boyfriend ordered the 18oz porterhouse and I ordered the chicken Alfredo. Everything was cooked wonderfully. The only reason I gave it four stars was the lack of flavor. I have a feeling it may have just been a one-off so we will be coming back for a second time to check out other menu items. Otherwise, everything was great! Service was awesome!

First time here and it did not disappoint. Food was amazing, friendly staff and it was super busy. Prices were very reasonable.

My son was craving pasta and wanted to try a place we've never been before. I read the reviews and decided to try it out. Well, I'm quite surprised at the high rating of this place. It must be mostly from older, loyal customers whose tastebuds are shot. As a matter of fact, 90% of the restaurant patrons were elderly people. The first thing I noticed when we pulled up was Frank Sinatra's 'Come Fly with Me', playing on a speaker in the parking lot. Nice, so at least I thought... The second thing I noticed, walking into the very farthest corner to be seated, was uneven flooring in there. There are lots of places to get tripped up from the front door to the back dining area. Now, I may be a little more aware of that because I have to lead a blind man around, but he did trip twice. The tables were clean, but for some reason, the place just felt dirty. Maybe it's all the extremely old furniture and carpets, but it just felt dingy to me. Some of the pictures had dried food or something stuck on them. I don't think those pictures have been cleaned in decades, and it was not very appetizing to see. Food: I ordered an Italian side salad, and I couldn't even finish it, it was so bland and absolutely drowning in whatever dressing it had, which had an overwhelming garlic flavor that just burned my taste buds instead of satisfying them. Soggy salad, yum. 😑 My son had a salad as well, the ranch dressing was delicious, but his was also drowning in the dressing. I also got a cheeseburger without a bun, and although juicy with a nice char, it was absolutely flavorless. Also, it crumbled every time I tried to pick up a bite. Less than halfway through it, I realized I wasn't asked how I'd like my burger done, and what kind of cheese I would like. (Was there a choice?) I was served a well-done patty with orange plastic cheese that I ended up scraping off. I left a quarter of the burger on the plate because again, no flavor. We ordered a side of toasted ravioli, and that was pretty good. The onion rings had absolutely no crisp to them, and they were barely warm. Almost like they had been sitting around for a while under a heat lamp. My son decided on the fettuccine alfredo with grilled chicken. He said it was good, but it needed salt and lots of parmesan, because again it lacked much flavor. Lastly, back to Frank Sinatra. They had this ONE song on repeat, so we heard 'Come Fly with Me' approximately 30 times. I really couldn't wait to leave. The woman at the register wasn't very personable. No salutations, didn't ask us how our meal was, just very basic. Maybe she was just tired. I did hear her tell a guest who was leaving to be careful of the step going out the door. Sure enough, when I was leaving, I tripped on that MF step. Seems very irresponsible to me to have to tell people to be careful, why not just fix it??? I took the onion rings home, and I'll put them in my air fryer to see if I can crisp them up. A positive: there was a little blonde boy there who greeted us on the way in, and on our way out told us to have a good evening. He was about 10, and he seemed like a very sweet young man. If he's the next generation of owners, hopefully, he can bring some modernization and flavor to Savute's. Cannot recommend this place.

Pete's Delight is my go to but also love their ravioli and manicotti. Homemade blue cheese on salad is a MUST.

One of Wichita’s finest here! I had the sirloin and it was delicious, cooked perfectly and served with a baked potato. Wife had chicken scallopini which is her go to and an excellent choice. Love the memorabilia here and service was great.

Yelp
We went to dinner again at Savute's. Our anniversary is May 25, 1973. I attended the same high school as John 'Pete'. Graduated 1972. The food is excellent. I started going there with my parents and every year my husband and I go back to Kechi Cemetary where my family is buried plus we were married at my church in Park City. Eating at Savute's is our spot maybe only once a year but the best food around. And we've been all over the USA and Europe. German food comes in second. Thanks, Donna Jarred-Halliburton 5* out of 5

Yelp
I came here many years ago and finally made it back. No more authentic Wichita restaurant exists. Love the tie in to aviation/Air Capitol. The food is fresh and delicious. Highly recommend.

Sharon W.

Yelp
I haven't been here in years it is now to far from home, however I always enjoyed the food and loved the bar area with the aviation memorabilia!

Yelp
For old-school Italian, this is the place. Great food, outstanding service, and atmosphere.

Mike B.

Yelp
I've eaten at Savute's Italian a number of times. They just get better. I love the food and the service is top notch. The best Italian food this side of the Mississippi. I highly recommend Savute's. Better than Patsy's in New York!
google avatar

Patti H.

Yelp
I love this place! We have gone here for years! The fried chicken is freshly cooked when ordered! The Savute's Supreme, my favorite. A portion of chicken breast Italian style, spaghetti and meatball, and lasagna! All excellent. Drinks are affordable. Love the servers! Especially Kelli the place is old, but so many happy memories here!

Jena T.

Yelp
Amazing hole in the wall find. Everyone was so friendly. Prices were amazing! Great decor for the setting. Highly recommend stopping by there for lunch or dinner.

Yelp
Savutes is a long time restaurant in Wichita and it shows. The decor is old and dirty looking. The bar area smells. We have given it three chances having something different each time we have gone. The red sauce is (for our taste ) too sweet and the Alfredo sauce is bland. It is very obvious they don't not make their own sauces. I asked. On one visit, I had the filet. It was the toughest filet I've ever had. I love plenty of salad dressing but they drowned the salad in it. At best it is a neighborhood restaurant where their loyal customers have never eaten at a really good Italian restaurant and like mediocre bland food. The only positive thing I could say is the service was prompt. Although, I asked for Parmesan cheese and she brought out a bottled "cheese" that actually was a bottle of garlic salt. Three people at our table of 6 did order steak. She asked if anyone wanted steak sauce. An absolute faux pax for steak if it's any good.

Elana S.

Yelp
This place has AMBIANCE! It brings to mind the rat pack and days gone by. She's showing her age a bit, but I still love Savute's. Must try: Fried chicken (with spaghetti!), Italian salad, SPUMONI! Good value, friendly servers.

Yelp
Looking for an old-school Italian place? This is it. Prices are reasonable, food is good. I think I came here for the first time 40+ years ago. Still looks and tastes the same.

Yelp
Savute's has a wonderful menu as a steakhouse and as an Italian restaurant. Steaks are priced reasonably and are cooked to order perfectly. Salads are great as well as the bread basket or any appetizers you might add. A full bar is included so that drinks of any type might be ordered. Service is excellent, friendly, efficient, and speedy. The 1940s era of aerospace and post World War II surrounds the bar area and the entrance. It's a very nostalgic display of Americans from the mid century. Leave a really good tip because these people work really hard to give you excellent service and delicious food. I will go there again and again and again. You might notice there aren't any food pictures, but I was so excited to bite into my steak.

Linda C.

Yelp
The food was just ok the service was fine. The building is old and feels stuffy. As far as the Italian food it's tasted like it came out of a jar. We also had fried chicken and it was dry and tasteless

Michael D.

Yelp
Went to eat here tonight the service was great and the food was better. My wife had the Lasagna and I had the Pasta with Italian sausage. We both enjoyed our meals.
google avatar

Trey M.

Yelp
Excuse me! Can you put these meatballs back in the microwave for a little bit? They're very cold. Thanks!

Yelp
My Husband and I decided to go here for our Anniversary. The Service was very good, but we found the food a little bland. When we arrived -- we told the Hostess that it was our Anniversary and we needed someone to take our picture and towards the end of our meal she came to our table to take our picture (I had completely forgotten). My Husband ordered a Pepperoni Pizza and I ordered the Chicken Marsala with Fetticini Alfredo. We ordered Pete's Delight -- which is Spaghetti with Mushrooms and one Meatball and topped with Provolone -- to go. I had been happily anticipating our meal since my Husband usually prefers Mexican food. There was Garlic Salt at the table -- which we both used. The Sauce on the pizza was bland so Hubby also used the Red Peppet Flakes and some Parmesan Cheese. I will say that the Mushrooms on my Chicken Marsala were perfection!!! I wished that they opened for Lunch on the weekend -- we usually vo out to eat at Lunchtime -- not Dinner. We would definitely return. As a footnote -- I realized once we got home that our 'to go' order didn't have a Salad or any bread.

Yelp
Interesting place, definitely a lot of history in this family owned restaurant. Decor is kinda stuck in time. Service was pleasant and attentive. Ordered the sampler platter with ravioli, spaghetti and a steak. Sauce over the steak had large chunks of celery, interesting. The red sauce over the entire three dishes was very sweet, didn't really care for the sauce. Wife ordered the fettuccine Alfredo with chicken. She said it was good and cheesy. Had spumoni with rum sauce which was actually quite good. In summary, for the history it was an experience but can't say that I would return.

Mike F.

Yelp
I love Italian food and my goto is Savutes. It's been around as long as it has for a reason. Great food, great prices and great service. The atmosphere ma be lacking for some but it's authentic. Not in the best part of town in some regards but never had any problems. My wish is they were open more with longer hours but it's one of those things that makes the anticipation so rewarding.

Debbie B.

Yelp
Always good! Not sure what is my favorite! Yes the chicken is fantastic! Fried Ravioli is yum. The Lasagna is pretty darn good too! Great staff! Always friendly. It's just kinda a cool nostalgic place to go eat! I forgot to take a picture of my food, definitely wanted to posts menu image! btw- I haven't tried there pizza...boy they look delicious, lot of people ordered them!
google avatar

Steve R.

Yelp
I love this place. My only regret is that I live so far south that it isn't very convenient to get there unless we plan well ahead. The atmosphere inside looks like they haven't changed the decor in 50 years. The floors seem to be warped in places and at times you feel as though you are leaning when you walk. And the bar has a great theme but is pretty stuffy and it also dated. And these are three things that I wouldn't change for $1,000,000!!! It all adds so much to the experience. I feel like I am eating in a place that my grandparents ate in and it looks the same as when they are there. The food is all good but the pizza is to die for. What pizza in Wichita used to be. The bar has a limited menu but still plenty of food on it to give you a chance to taste a little bit of Italy. A true hidden gem and one that everyone should try. Great food, great staff, and a grand old building!!
google avatar

Christy B.

Yelp
Great service and atmosphere. Homemade ranch on the salad was great. Fried cheese was not melted, and didn't love the batter. Very much enjoyed my manicotti, and even requested to have half marinara/half Alfredo sauce (recommended). Steak was just ok.

Yelp
"Welcome to the best restaurant in the world." - plaque near the entrance to Savute's Some cuisines have gone through transformations over the past several decades and the current preparation of these dishes are sometimes fairly radically different than where they started. At the same time, there's something nice and comforting about those old ways of doing things, too, perhaps giving hope that there exists a world where both could coexist and please people who are looking for the old or new methods of preparation. Italian is not one of those cuisines. The Italian restaurants of old were about one thing: RED SAUCE, and they poured that SAUCE on everything in sight, drowning whatever protein or pasta that came along with it. In the past fifteen years or so, someone finally took a trip to Italy and discovered that while SAUCE is an important part of many dishes, the true tenant of Italian cooking is in the marriage of simple ingredients, each expertly prepared to showcase the harmony that can be created. The meal began with a boring tossed salad served with a couple of slices of pepperoni and a pepperoncini. It was served with a basket of cold rye bread. I ordered Savute's Supreme Piatto, which turned out to be a trio of spaghetti and meatball, lasagna, and beef (or chicken, but I ordered beef) cacciatore . It should be noted that spaghetti and red sauce is an American invention - in Italy, the thin and longer noodles are typically reserved for lighter fare like oils, cheese, and herbs, where the heavy stew-based red sauces are paired with tubular noodles, which are much better at holding sauce. With that being said, I was served a portion of overcooked spaghetti that was topped with a large helping of SAUCE. At no point were the two introduced before hitting my plate, so trying to force the two to come together was an exercise in futility. I found the meatball to be decent, though a bit bland, consisting of nothing but ground beef and some diced onion. It tasted a bit like a Swedish meatball, actually. The lasagna was a rearrangement of the spaghetti and meatballs, layering the traditional ground beef, SAUCE, and ricotta. At no time did the dish work cohesively as a unit, instead choosing to slip and slide at the mere sight of my fork. The beef cacciatore was interesting if only because it wasn't covered in SAUCE, but instead a very lightly cooked collection of peppers, tomatoes, celery, and onions, all cut entirely too large, and all cooked in some sort of wine-like liquid that made them all too sweet. Everything still had a hearty crunch to it, which I found very unpleasant. When my plate was served to me it had a little Italian flag sticking out of the meatball on top of my spaghetti, serving as a reminder that the meal I was about to eat was intended to be Italian. At no time did I see any attempt to use herbs, not even Parmesan, though I guess if I wanted some spice I could have grabbed the container of garlic salt that are handily located on every table. There are plenty of restaurants that have been around for years, and maintain a very loyal following (families with children and the elderly) that doesn't like things challenged beyond their narrow viewpoint of what their definition of food entails, and in many cases, I can give a restaurant a pass if they still make good food (Cafe Bel Ami and Scotch and Sirloin come to mind). In the case of Savute's, however, their way of doing Italian is something that should have been left in the 1940s where it originated. Just all-around disappointing.

John A.

Yelp
Love this place. Great food and friendly staff. I grew up in a big Italian family and the cooking reminds me of Moms cooking so much so that I couldn't finish my meal and was waiting to get yelled at by a crying woman wanting to know what tasted so bad that I couldn't finish while holding my forehead to see if I had a fever! Decor brings me back to my days as a NYC mafioso attending a "family" meeting. Seriously, every time I drive there I blare the Sopranos theme song. Great first class place, great first class people. OTTIMO CIBO!

Libby G.

Yelp
Can't decide what was the worst part: the 40 minute wait to be seated after being told no reservation need (yet 2 couples seated immediately upon walking in because their "table is ready," the waitress that listened to nothing, the drink girl who drenched my jacket in another table's tea, or the horridly over sweet sauce. And that doesn't even touch on the old dilapidated decor.

The O.

Yelp
Have eaten there twice---my first time and my last time and never went back. I was delighted to see Angelo's return which meant there would be REAL Italian food, good food, in an updated location and not some run down old joint with rubbery food. Olive Garden may be "casual" Italian but they are certainly better than this. Don't recommend. Pack it in.

Jihye K.

Yelp
Savute is my favorite place in wichita. I love their stakes with baked potato. The place is old but I love the mood. Service is nice and dishes are always big. I just love here so much!
google avatar

Stacey T.

Yelp
This is a hidden Wichita staple. My family has dined here for years. Tonight I had the sirloin and spaghetti, it was amazing! The steak was perfectly cooked. Service was friendly, always a great experience.
google avatar

Aunt B.

Yelp
I was really curious about this place for a long time. I had ideas of gangsters gathering here, Sopranos style. And then I went there. It's certainly . . . odd. And it's dark the way old-school restaurants that haven't had an update in 30 years are. We had to wait for well over half an hour to be seated. The place is always busy and Wichitans speak of it fondly, so I thought the food was going to be good. And I was so wrong. The noodles were overcooked and the marinara tasted like cheap tomato sauce in a can. Will not return. Would not recommend.
google avatar

Bill S.

Yelp
One word --TERRIBLE How is this place still open It's the worst "Italian" food I've ever eaten -- you can get a better meal in a microwave box from the freezer section
google avatar

Matty V.

Yelp
I'm a fan, based on ambiance alone. The food was average, verging on poor. But, the aeronautical theme is REALLY cool and is unmatched in any other restaurant that I've seen. It's like walking into '50's. It's dark and musty, aircraft seats and flight memorabilia is everywhere. I really hope that Savute's restaurant continues to stay in business because it's an institution. But when I go back, I'll skip the food, and spend my time chatting up the locals at the awesome bar. I'll order drinks that were typical in the '50s, like a sloe gin fizz and a Tom Collins, while I talk to the people that have patronized this place for decades.
google avatar

David K.

Yelp
65 years and it's still around! Small family-owned restaurant seemingly. Classic Wichita cuisine! I ate here once with a two of my buddies. It was more than a year ago but I thought the spaghetti and bread that I ordered were great. I was in love with the waitress, teehee! One of my friends keep wanting to go back there but we can never find the time to make the drive. They're only open for dinner too... I wouldn't mind going back in the future. So what if the building is old, the parking lot is a mess and the location is practically in the middle of nowhere, hidden by the train tracks. The food is good for the price and the staff are friendly and it's where the people are! Isn't that what it's all about?
google avatar

Kris S.

Yelp
Savute's is one of those Wichita dining establishments that one absolutely must try before earning the distinction, "Wichitan." The decor is aviation themed and borders on tacky but the crowded parking lot is evidence that a lot of people can look past that to focus on the main event: the food. The simple menu features outstanding spaghetti and other Italian favorites, plus steak. Combine this with the fast, friendly service and reasonable prices and it becomes clear why Savute's has been in business for so long.
google avatar

Logan J.

Yelp
This "Italian Ristorante" does offer several Italian dishes, but their steak is probably their best entree. Their Italian food is good, BUT it did not blow me away and I have had better. I ordered "Pete's Delight" which is spaghetti with mushrooms, provolone and a meatball. When my dish arrived it was covered in the melted provolone. The spaghetti and red sauce was mediocre. The steak, on the other hand, was very well thought of by the people I was dining with. A salad and basket of bread is served with each meal. There is also a bar inside, the Stick n Rudder Bar, that is pretty neat. It has many actual airplane seats for people to sit in. There is an airplane theme all throughout the restaurant. Savute's is definitely not the worse place in Wichita, but there are other places I would pick over this place.

Bill P.

Yelp
I have been eating at Savutes since the fifties! The family takes pride in their food!

Isaiah L.

Yelp
Our waitress was flawless however the food wasn't. I feel like when the kids took over the quality went down. Food was cold and somewhat bland. Felt like any second Gordon Ramsey was going to come around the corner after sending his food back.
google avatar

Steve K.

Yelp
Worst Italian food in Wichita. I had the manicotti & the sauce tasted like it was straight out of a can of tomato paste. The place is old & needs some serious updating.

Only M.

Yelp
Great experience! Hadn't been here in many years but decided to give it a go. Reasonable price, good food, good service. Just a great time overall.
google avatar

Darian U.

Yelp
Great food at a great price! Absolutely the best place to eat in Wichita! Their filet mignon with Italian style is the best. Great customer service and great family setting. If you haven't tried this place you need to give them a try. Keep up the great work savutes!

Alisa F.

Yelp
WHAT is in that sauce?! Incredible. Fantastic service and amazing food. Such an unassuming location rich with local history and flair. I absolutely loved our dinner there and would HIGHLY recommend.
google avatar

Jules C.

Yelp
My friends had lasagna that was just okay but salty and too much of a certain spice they didn't recognize. They loved the pumpernickel that was served in the complimentary breadbasket. I had a unremarkable ribeye and undercooked or old baked potato. Our dining experience was underwhelming to say the least.
google avatar

Kim H.

Yelp
I am got the yelp app just so I could leave a review for this nasty place. I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs. First, the sauce was bad. No flavor, tasted like ketchup from an old tin can with sugar added, no spices, no garlic: blah, bland, and boring. But while disappointing, that's not what was truly awful and nasty about my meal. No, the nasty part was the meatballs. A day later and I still am struggling to get the vile, rotten, nasty, vomity taste out of my mouth. It is hands down the absolute worst thing I have tasted. I almost vomited from trying it. It took me ten minutes of sitting out in the parking before I felt I could drive workout fear of having to pull over so I could vomit. While they did remove the meal from our bill, I feel the need to warn ppl. It's awful. There had to be something wrong with the meatballs to cause that type of reaction to just two bites.
google avatar

K S.

Yelp
I think after many years of frequenting this establishment, they have lost our business for a very long time. My order was a short cut and it was extremely tough and overcooked, I ordered it medium rare, not well done to burnt. When my husband and I saw what we did on the east wall near the register, we both lost our appetite. It was roaches coming from behind the pictures on the wall walking down into an unsuspecting customers coat. The waitress really didn't check on us. We were trying to get someone to let them know what we saw and where we saw it, but they got busy elsewhere and my husband and I had to leave.

Yelp
This is seriously one of my favorite places. Everybody is so nice, and the food is SO good! I've always gone there with my family and just can't get enough of it. Savutes is open til 10:30 and is pretty close to where we live so it's perfect. Not only that but for the amount of food you get, it's relatively cheap. You can also call in a to-go order which is perfect if we just wanna go back home. I haven't had one thing on the menu that I didn't enjoy. Fettucinni Alfredo with chicken is by far my favorite. Creamy and delicious. Plenty enough food for leftover lunch the next day. Their ranch on their salads is my favorite but I also really like the Italian salad too. They bring you a bread basket filled with white and rye bread along with a generous amount of packaged crackers and breadsticks. Another favorite is their fried chicken which comes out more fresh than any other fried chicken I've ever seen. Crispy and delicious. Take that Colonel Sanders! We've also had the Italian sampler, steaks, and fried ravioli. All of which were just as good. For birthdays, they serve spumoni, Italian ice cream (neopolitan-ish) with a little sauce on top with a sugar cube that they light on fire which is pretty cool. Not a fan of fruity ice cream but everyone else seems to love it. A lot of the older crowd goes in there considering its not the most "hip" place in town, but we love the family ran little hole in the wall. Savutes is the type of restaurant that is around forever for a reason.

Cherish D.

Yelp
AMAZING FOOD!!! We got the chopped sirloin steak (definitely not hamburger, it tasted fresh and like real meat) and a catfish filet, which was tender and flavorful... Even my baked potato was awesome and tender! Service was timely. I'd go here again if I lived in Wichita!
google avatar

Matthew K.

Yelp
This was literally the worst Italian food I have ever ate in my life. The service was slow to begin with. The decor looked like 1965 puked all over it. The food tasted like it had a ton of sugar. A majority of the people at this restaurant where elderly also like the decor. I do not recommend this place to anyone.

Yelp
I love this place get the T-bone godfather style and get the fried cheese and spaghetti and sauce excellent. One of the Marks family's favorite restaurant
google avatar

Billy G.

Yelp
Family owned restaurant with amazing food and great customer service. Must try filet Italian style with fried provolone cheese for appetizer! Highly recommend!!

Terry S.

Yelp
Savutes is one of our families favorite restaurants. My parents took us kids there, my wife and I ate there when we were dating (50 yrs ago)! Our kids have grown up eating there, and now it's our grand kids favorite place to celebrate special occasions! Great food, best pizza in town! The Savutes are special people. It's a very nostalgic place. Don't change a thing! It's worth the drive from Mulvane.
google avatar

Joe W.

Yelp
I ordered the Chicken Scallopini, and have been thinking about it since! The bar next door, Stick' n Rudder Club, is cheesy: an airplane theme where you sit in real plane chairs, but its a good time to pop in and check it out. Definitely a place you should check out at least once, its been around for 65+ years.
google avatar

Brian F.

Yelp
I got the supreme piatti sampler, so I got one of 3 classic Italian dishes. Service was excellent and the wine was good. I thought the spaghetti noodles could have been better and that the sauce also had room for improvement. Also no real Parmesan cheese, which for a place that advertises its authenticity, seems like an issue. Good choice for the money.
