This place was a recommendation, and I do have to say it was well recommended. It looks very fancy and beautiful for date night. They had live music, which was impressive for a Thai restaurant. Great appetizer! The food was very delicious, and the portions are a good size! I just didn’t like their Thai tea and the iced Thai coffee; they were a little bit watered down.

Google
Food was delicious! Each dish was flavorful and tasted authentic. The Pad See Ewe and fried rice was my favorite! It tasted very fresh and the portions were also bigger than I expected!! Personally I felt like the pad thai was a bit on the soggier side, but still delicious! The restaurant is huge and spacious, with a lot of seating. They had a live band playing which I found very lovely and added to our dinner experience. The staff was also super friendly and kept coming back to make sure we were enjoying our time. Definitely will be coming back again :)

I’ve tried over 30 Thai places in Utah. The employees were nice. The place is nice. Unfortunately food was terrible. You can tell when a chef cooks with love vs when he cooks like he’s just an employee trying to go home. There was no love here. Ordered 2 dishes both of which looked and tasted the same. Burnt mess. No color what so ever. And one of the dishes was just missing ingredients that the menu said it would have. Maybe caught them on a bad day or they were just OUT of certain menu items. But if that’s the case then they need to communicate that.

Amazing live jazz on weekends in June. Staff and ambiance was great! Recommend Crispy Spring Rolls, Veggie Tempura, Shrimp/Chicken Pad Thai, Pork Fried Rice, Sweet/Sour Pork, Mixed Veggie Stir Fry! Great experience!

Walked in for a late lunch & was seated immediately. This restaurant is huuuuuge! I almost got lost trying to find the bathroom, lol. (But really though.) We ordered Deep Fried Tofu as an appetizer & it came with this peanut sauce that was bomb! Super yums! It was like a spicy peanut sauce *drool I ended up ordering the Pad See Ewe Tofu & it was yums. I like how the tofu was cooked - fried. You can't go wrong with fried tofu! I had leftovers so I was able to take it home & enjoy the next day for lunch. Our waitress was super attentive & friendly. The service was quick so we were in and out of there within an hour. I know what you're thinking - yes, they were busy but like I said at the beginning of this review - this restaurant is huge so even though there were a good amount of customers there, you don't feel like there is. This place was a good find - we love a good Thai restaurant :)

Google
We came here for a family celebration and had dinner with 12 people. Was a great place to eat family style. We tried several different dishes. The Yellow Curry and Panang Curry was our favorite entree. The cashew chicken was also great, the Pad Thai was okay. I highly recommend the curries, that is what everyone loved. We also tried several appetizers, the spring rolls, tempura fried veggies, and the crab wontons. We loved the wontons, the spring rolls were great, I wouldn’t order the tempura fried veggies again. Great place to eat, especially as a family!

Google
The curry puffs were delicious I ordered the pad Thai and it was good but I’ve had better in other places. Not sure what seemed to be missing. Food was all around very good and portion sizes were generous.

Google
It is good food and some creative dishes but some of the sauces seem a bit watered down. It was better a few years ago when I ate here once a month. I think the ownership change affected the recipes. It is a solid option though. Extensive menu and nice staff just short handed.

Yelp
The service at Sawadee is very good. They were moderately busy, but nonetheless were very attentive of water refill and checked up on us frequently. We ordered the lunch special (S1 coconut soup and S6 panang curry) and the beef drunken models. The flavor of the panang curry was my favorite. It was very savory. The coconut soup was savory with a hint of sweet and lemon grass. Both had a good coconut flavor to them. The drunken noodles were very tasty. The restaurant is cute with the tables being textured and ample seating inside and outside. It wasn't noisy when we went. It was cool inside but not cold. I enjoyed my experience and this is one of the better Thai restaurants I've been to in recent memory

Yelp
I am not the biggest fan of Thai food, so I will not review the food heavily. However, many people seemed to love the food in my party. The service was OK -- She brought out my food last (probably 10 minutes after everyone else got their food), which was lukewarm by the time I was able to eat it. My water sat empty for a good chunk of the meal. When I first walked into this restaurant, it had a weird smell. The chair I sat on was dirty and I had to wipe it off. I will probably not be back here.

Yelp
From personal experimentation, I think the beef on my salad were microwaved. The pink bits were intermingled with the parts that felt like rubber bands. Most of the Thai restaurants I've been to arent afraid to at least have some flavor (chilis, fish sauce, and something other than sugar), I was disappointed and confused after receiving this recommendation. Everything was just sweet and soy sauce. Pad Thai came out ages before my dish, and wasn't bad but wasn't good either. Portion sizes were good but that doesnt mean much when its pennies to the dollar on being stingy with rice/noodles. The decor was good though. Would recommend for a date with someone who's never had Thai food before and would confuse with a fancy Chinese-American restaurant.

Yelp
Been here once before & needed to try again! Friday & Saturdays they have live music which is really nice! the band was really good! The service is super fast and the food came out all within timely manner. We did find a bug crawling on the table and there was a hair in the rice. That was a little off putting! The food is tasty! The portions are pretty big so definitely share if you're not that hungry! The papaya salad is refreshing but the fish sauce smell can be overpowering! The Massaman sauce is delicious! i think i would go back for the curry!

Yelp
I love this restaurant. Their food is consistently good and the restaurant itself is clean, well designed, and simply a nice place to go with family or colleagues. Easily one of my favorite Thai restaurants in any of the states I've lived. The waiters and waitresses are always quick and friendly. No wonder this restaurant has won so many awards!

Yelp
We came here on a Saturday night to celebrate. The vibe was great! They had a live band playing which was really lovely to have as background music. The staff was very friendly and quick to answer our questions. The food was good. I wouldn't call it great sadly but it was good. Be warned the portion sizes are MASSIVE! One dish could easily feed 2-3 people we did not plan on that so we had way more than we needed. The pad Thai was decent but nothing special. The massaman was very mild and could have used more spice for flavoring. The other dishes I couldn't try because I'm gluten free but my family said they were good not great. The soda came in a bottle and wasn't a fountain which is a bummer to pay per bottle. The smoothies were delicious and they did well with the two children we had in our group. I would come back here again if a group wanted to but I also wouldn't seek it out. The staff was the best part about this place.

Yelp
Nice portions! Great flavor and staff is very good. Lunch is the best! The give you a chose of two dishes.

Yelp
Ordered food for take out. Quick service and turn around. Pad Thai was large but felt a little bland with no spice, tang, or dimension. The coconut soup was really sweet.

Yelp
First timer at this restaurant that was highly recommended by a native! The food did not disappoint but fell flat in some areas. It was cold (well my version of cold) and soup was on my mind. I ordered the tofu soup. Though tofu often screams vegetarian there's pork that's usually added to this dish. I ordered the veggie option. The soup was good but lacked flavor. The noodles were also a bit difficult to capture so I would ask for a fork. The veggies were fresh and I didn't too much care for the tofu. It was too mushy and flavor less. My favorite part of my meal was the fried salmon with brown rice. I like anything with salmon so the item caught my eyes immediately. The sweet and sour sauce, there's a crunch effect and meat went well with the brown rice. I think white rice would have been a better compliment but I still enjoyed my food. For flavor add the sauce to the rice and enjoy! The restaurant was spacious, with lots of personality and our server was gracious. There's even an area to purchase snacks if one desired. There were several groups in the restaurant that evening but it wasn't noisy. If I am ever back in Utah, I'll stop by and try other dishes. Thank you for the warm hospitality

Yelp
Service was great Food came out quick, hot and executed well. Came for my bday and my husband and I shared: crab balls (delicious and tastes fresh), salmon curry (best thing we ate), chicken pad Thai (pretty standard, plain for me), crying tiger ( the sauce was good, meat was tender but had a little portion which was inedible hard fat), and pad woo sen (I ordered yum woo sen but I think the waitress misheard me. I would say my least fav item we ordered because it was a bit salty.)

Yelp
really solid thai food which was unexpected for salt lake! every dish was fire, but my favorite was the chicken pad see ew. service was very friendly! ambiance is super casual, lots of indoor and outdoor seating. super cute vibes! would definitely recommend.

Yelp
We couldn't make online or call-in reservations because they would be too busy, but we could show up to see if we could be seated. The place was empty! The menu was a QR code. Service was poor and the food was even worse! Ambiance was okay. I do NOT recommend!

Yelp
I know this place has mixed reviews from what the local Utahns told me. Though, I came several times last year with kids, & with friends and each time service was great! Attentive, caring and able to answer any questions. Not pushy and a great vibe to the restaurant. Food was flavorful and for the price I was pretty impressed how much food we got.

Yelp
I'm from out of town and came here for dinner, a recommendation from a family member. The service was exceptional from the moment we walked into the restaurant. The menu has a bit of everything for those who are vegan or following a gluten free diet to meat lovers. The appetizers were delicious--the spring rolls with tofu and the fried tofu were perfect starters. That followed the main course that included barbecue chicken, pad Thai, and chicken curry along with a chicken fried rice. The portions here are probably enough for two people, so we left with extras for the entire family. I recommend this location for the options, taste, and service. It doesn't hurt that you're also not breaking the bank for a family of 7.

Yelp
Generally this place has fantastic takeout well packed etc - about the only thing right they did this time was pack it well - that and the crab Rangoon appetizers and a beef with vegetables and sauce. We also ordered the drunken noodles and orange chicken. the drunken noodles were ordered spicy. They arrived with absolutely zero spice and basically tasteless the same for the orange chicken no sauce just baked chicken morsels. very sad and expensive for what was a sub optimal meal other than the appetizer and beef - two good dishes and two to throw away. I'll give them another shot, but I've had this experience with them several times where it will be good for two or three times and then another time I'll order and the order just comes out totally wrong tasteless wrong spice level, etc. I would love to see more consistency in this restaurant.

Yelp
Service was nice, and the food was yummy:) They had a trainee in the kitchen, so our soup had to be remade 3 times, but once they finally got it right, it was great (although, it's been better in the past).
google avatar

Lindsey H.

Yelp
They have changed around their interior and it appears they have less seating now to make more space! I applaud this! They also have a piano and live music on Fri/Sat and are selling items almost like a store at the front. The service was a little slow but the food (as it has been for the last 10 years) was wonderful, huge portions and exactly what we wanted. Still my favorite.

Yelp
I didn't properly prepare for this experience-I just thought it would be another Thai place that would serve us dinner and we'd be on our way. I really didn't expect it to be so freaking amazing that I'm still thinking about it a day later. The ambience is a little dark and moody, which fits well with the old building with exposed brick and low ceilings. I would love to know more about the history of the building-surely it's been around awhile and has some cool stories to tell. The food was out of this world good-and so much of it! I ordered the glass noodle stir fry with chicken and my date had the pad thai. We both ate and ate until we were full, but still have so much food left over. (It heated up well the next day, I can attest to as I'm eating leftovers now.) Somehow, we saved enough room for a sticky rice and mango dessert which was phenomenal. Not too sweet, just right. I wish I'd been able to eat more of it, but a few bites was all I could do. I'll be better prepared next time. You'll find parking out front and a good sized patio for outdoor dining when the weather is nice. I will absolutely be back to sit on that patio, eat a reasonable amount of a main course and then devour the heck out of that sticky rice dessert. I can't wait.

Yelp
The food was amazing and the service was fantastic. We ordered Pad Se Ew and Khao Soi. Both were delicious. Would highly recommend!

Yelp
Delicious! Pad thai was great, one of my favorites i've tried so far. The fried rice was a little bland but it was still pretty good. We also got the larb (pork lettuce wrap) and that was seriously so good, I would get that again a million times! The inside is well decorated, the chairs we sat in were so low it was uncomfortable to eat. It was pretty spacious and not super busy which was nice. Our server was kind and answered all of our questions, refilled our waters often and was kind. I definitely wanna come back soon!

Yelp
Sawadee is a great go-to restaurant for Thai food in Utah. I think it is pretty good, though it doesn't quite match up to the newer Thai restaurants I've tried!! Either way, their food is great, the ambiance is fun with the Thai decor, and their staff is very friendly. This restaurant is very consistent.
google avatar

Isabella F.

Yelp
I love this place! The pad Thai is unreal it's so delicious. I came in a few days ago, usually the service is amazing but that day it did take them 20 minutes to provide our check after asking multiple times.
google avatar

Caitlin N.

Yelp
My husband's family is part Thai and while we love making Thai food at home, sometimes we want to enjoy it being made for us! The first time we visited Sawadee, we met up with a group of friends and split a bunch of dishes from pineapple curry, chicken pad Thai, and a short rib speciality and much more. Food was tasty and came out fresh, but sadly, they didn't have mango sticky rice available. The second time we visited, we brought my in-laws and ate the fried duck special (my favorite), spring rolls, papaya salad, pineapple fried rice and many more dishes. This place even impressed my half Thai father in law! But sadly, no mango sticky rice available for this visit. We're looking forward to visiting again when mangos are in season!

Yelp
Went here with locals to SLC - they said this was the go to place for Thai. I can certainly see why! It was absolutely delicious! The foods were wonderful, the service was good and the atmosphere was clean and on brand.

Alex G.

Yelp
Excellent lunch specials! Quick and courteous service for pick-up, I've only eaten inside a few times but the patio area is nice when it's not so hot. Their Pad Thai is awesome and I've enjoyed every appetizer I've tried
google avatar

Yelp
This places lives UP to the "Best in Utah" awards. I ordered the chicken Pad Thai and it was BEYOND amazing. For sure the best Pad Thai I've ever had. The portions were large, which is my favorite because I'm the world's biggest fan of leftovers. This fed me about 3 meals! I will be back! The food came so quickly, and the prices are worth it for the portions and service!
google avatar

Leah E.

Yelp
fun and lively restaurant with live music on weekends. VERY busy and subsequently very loud. Portions were enough for 2 people easily, this crab fried rice would have been enough for 3. Thai tea was great, Tom kha Kai soup was phenomenal. Did not ask for spice levels for the curry which was interesting.

Harrison M.

Yelp
I had the crispy duck chef's special last night. I DID NOT LIKE IT. The duck was very dry. Did not taste good.
google avatar

Melanie V.

Yelp
Super beautiful interior with a kind staff, clean venue, and delicious food options. All fried items were excellent with the tempura veggies number one! Crab fried rice was beautiful but not as tasty as expected. Similar feedback from my colleagues who got the lettuce wraps and orange chicken. But one colleague said the shrimp fried rice was the best they ever had, I loved my veggie broccoli stir fry, and the crispy duck was fabulous. Massamang curry was also excellent. Would definitely come back but hopefully next time they will have their liquor li

Yelp
I have heard about this place from many different sources, but was only just able to try it for myself. This place really blew me away in every aspect. First of all, the location is stunning. The outside patio area looks incredible as you are walking in the doors, and the inside is full of interesting artwork and decor. We were promptly greeted by the host and sat right away. I came here during my lunch break for the lunch special. This is an incredible deal, two entrees that come with rice, an egg roll, and a salad for $12. Our server got our orders, and the food was out very quickly. This food was way too good for this price. I was blown away by my whole experience at sawadee, and am definitely looking forward to returning soon.

Yelp
Got the yellow curry, spring rolls, and pot stickers. They delivered faster than the posted time which was amazing. Would go again!

Yelp
In Salt Lake City today from Florida and was craving Thai as usual. My friend in Florida found this gem and sent me the link...off I went. Food was SOOOO delicious! Had Tom Kha, fresh spring rolls with shrimp and Panang curry. Food was cooked perfectly and the flavor was amazing! Portions were huge. Ambiance was calm and inviting. Will be comsuming my left overs tomorrow...can not wait!

Yelp
Excellent food, great atmosphere, clean and prompt and engaging service. We will definitely eat here, again. I really enjoyed the Pad Thai, ordered with shrimp. It came with a lot of shrimp!

Yelp
Sawadee is a nice Thai restaurant in downtown Salt Lake City. They have both indoor and outdoor patio seating. They have their own private parking lot, but there is also free 2 hour parking in front of the restaurant as well. The servers are very kind and welcoming. I got the satay chicken and it was absolutely delicious paired with the peanut sauce. The satay chicken itself is cooked very well. I also got the chicken pad Thai and it was also very tasty. The chicken in the pad Thai was also cooked perfectly and I appreciate how they put the peanuts on the side. Overall, if you're looking for Thai food in Salt Lake, definitely check out Sawadee!

Yelp
Full marks for service. Sawadee has plenty of waitstaff, which is a welcome change these days when most places are woefully understaffed. Also full marks for environment: the restaurant is clean (the bathrooms are exemplary), spacious, and well-decorated. The menu is fairly extensive and has all the favorites, with vegan options for many of the dishes. Portions are ample. The food itself, though, was hit-and-miss. The papaya salad was pretty good, though the fish sauce was overpowering. The fresh rolls were loosely wrapped and falling apart. The rice was way too dry. I ordered something called "tofu tod lak pick" that was a mostly inedible mess; it would have been nice if the description said it was battered and deep-fried. The garlic stir-fry, though, was pretty darn good. I'm willing to go back and give it another try.

Yelp
First time back to Sawadee in probably 5 years! Covid didn't help, but I know we tried a couple of times when they were randomly out of town. Anyway, my husband and I had a nice meal on this chilly night. We both got green tea to drink which was warm and comforting. My husband got drunken noodles with tofu, his favorite and I tried something new. Don't remember what it was called but it was steamed veggies in peanut sauce with chicken as my protein. We had to ask for chilis and sauce because we forgot to indicate spice level and server never asked. Kinda odd but at least we could spice it up! Food had a nice flavor and portions were large!! We both got leftover boxes. Wish they still served wine, pretty sure they used to.....

Yelp
Amazing ambience with live jazz music! A perfect place for delicious food and entertainment. Staff was very friendly and helpful and made for a great experience.

Yelp
YUMMY! Came with the family for a great meal. My go to gauges are Pad Thai & Beef Panang. We also ordered Yellow Curry, Drunken Noodles & Crispy Spring Rolls. Spring Rolls were indeed crispy & hot. A nice sized order (6) for an appetizer. We wanted the Curry Puff, but they weren't available. Yellow Curry... Pad Thai... Beef Panang (in my opinion) not quite to my liking, Drunken Noodles... on point. Funnily enough, we weren't asked for our spice (hot) level & I did have to ask for hot sauce. We arrived a little after 5pm and within 15 minutes the crowd started coming. By the time we left the restaurant, it was jumping. The live music ( jazz group), was okay. Maybe just background music, instead of singing? All in all, so glad we went & would make the trip again.

Gabrielle M.

Yelp
Absolutely terrible experience here, so sorry to have to write this, but it was awful. I LOVE Thai food, so really did my research for places with good reviews & my colleagues also recommended here. So, came here. Our apps were meh, but then my boyfriend got his dish - took a bite and it was RAW CHICKEN. He refused to eat after that. Then my food came, didn't want to eat alone, so packed it up. I left the restaurant CRYING as it was my birthday and I just wanted to celebrate with some good Thai food. We still had to pay for everything (minus the RAW CHICKEN). . Still on the search for good Thai in Utah for a birthday celebration.....

Yelp
Sawadee's has some of my favorite Thai in the Salt Lake City era! They never have a super long wait time, the ambiance is perfect for a variety of occasions and the food always comes out beautiful and super fresh! There have been a few times where I have come in and our servers are not super attentive, we waited for our check for a solid 45 minutes, but also totally understand that is is a busy spot where they are trying their best to get everyone seated and attended to, and the atmosphere is perfect for a friendly catch up, date night, and events in between!

M L.

Yelp
Now this is great Thai food. Service is always great. My customers in town love this place and we visit every time I'm in town for work. Pad Thai is my #1 and the Pad See Mao #2. But really you can't go wrong if you want traditional Thai.
google avatar

Phillip T.

Yelp
Food is decent, been here twice. However, service was abysmal. Front lady seems to hate saying thank you / you're welcome, or even smiling for that matter. Our lunch combo rice plate came out cold on the second visit. Don't think we'll be returning soon

Yelp
With so many reviews, we knew this was going to be the perfect post tennis dinner. It is located extremely close to 11th Avenue Park,l. Parking is abundant in their private parking lot. As soon as we sat down, please watch out for the large going to keep near the entrance, as we saw several people both young and elderly completely fall over the legs of the instrument. The staff are very friendly and fast. It only took about five minutes from ordering until we got our food. We got a chicken satay appetizer, one pad Thai, and one drunken noodle dish. The satay was incredible. Three giant, moist pieces of grilled chicken were provided with an abundance of a delicious and creamy peanut sauce. The noodles themselves were also incredible. We asked for it to be spicy, and they delivered. Drunken noodles had so much sweet and savory flavor, and the noodles were cooked perfectly and still chewy. The pad Thai was more saucy than other versions I've had, but the sauce was still incredible. An abundance of crispy bean sprouts were placed on top to give an excellent texture contrast throughout the experience. One of the main reasons this is an easy five out of five is the quantity, quality and price. Each serving of noodles can easily fill to people alone, and at a price of just $17, it is so good.

Yelp
Tonight Sawadee was having a bad day. Their prices have really skyrocketed since Covid started! $10 for 3 pieces of Chicken Satay with one tiny sauce! The pad graw praw was good but extremely salty. The basil leaves were dry and the peppers were over-cooked. The Chicken Satay was really good and the curry flavor on the chicken came through when they grilled it. The peanut sauce was phenomenal! It had just the right amount of heat. We ordered chicken yellow curry but I forgot to take a picture. It took about 35-40 mins to get to my table. The server said that the lady at the curry station was new and is running behind. NOT A GOOD THING TO SAY TO A YELP REVIEWER! At first, I did not like the flavor because it was really, really runny. I thought that it needed a little bit more coconut milk but after "DRINKING" my curry, the flavors were spot on. It was also a good portion for $17.95. They now have mango and sticky rice to redeem themselves. The server said it is sweet and salty. ARE THEY HARVESTING THE RICE? It's been at least 15 mins since I placed my order. When the M&SR came, it was beautifully presented. The server was right. It is not your usual M&SR. I actually really like the flavor. It is not overly sweet rice. They added some salt to give it an authentic savory flavor. You redeemed yourself Sawadee. I was going to give you three stars but the M&SR gave you an extra star!

Some of the best thai food in Salt Lake City (if not the best). I got the drunken noodles and requested they be VERY spicy. What I got was spicy enough (can't expect them to make it too hot in SLC). The depth and richness of flavors is hard to beat. I went on a Friday, and it was packed, so the wait to get in and the service was a little slower than usual--definitely passable though, and the food makes it more than worth it. The ambiance is a little rowdy at times, and the restaurant layout is crowded. The live jazz music was a bit loud, but very good and was still enjoyable. Overall, some of my favorite food in SLC period.

Yelp
Great food! Their Tom Kha soup. Their pad Thai is really good. Top 3 in Salt Lake County. Great environment. They were out of mango sticky rice when we went which was a bummer, but we will definitely be back.
