I'm really disappointed to be giving this review. My husband and I have been eagerly awaiting the opening of this place for months, as we love Jarocho's. We heard that it had finally opened, so we stopped in on a Friday night. Overall, the experience was average. It started out bad and ended better. First off, it was our first time, and our server did not explain the menu or their offerings. We only found out after we ordered that they offered a prix fixe menu. However, he did go over the specials, but that was it.
We decided to order gyoza as an appetizer and two old fashioneds. Unfortunately, the gyoza came out cold, and the cocktails were tiny. They looked sample size! They were $14 a piece and came out in a strange crystal dish. Second, we ordered some sashimi- tuna, octopus, and eel. All were really good. Then on to the oysters. I thought they were good, but my husband thought they smelled a little funky. Finally, we ordered ceviche, a spicy tuna roll, and some asparagus wrapped beef. Again, all those were good, but the portions were small, as others have mentioned. Overall, the vibe of the restaurant was hard to pin down. The music was loud, and it was extremely hard to hear our server or each other as we talked. I truly hope they work out the kinks. I'd like this place to be successful. But, I must say, we were disappointed by our first experience.
