Brookside favorite blending classic nigiri, thoughtful rolls, and Japanese comfort dishes. Highlighted by Kansas City Magazine for its Tokyo-sourced fish and Edomae touches, it remains a neighborhood go-to with a genuine community feel.

Best sushi I’ve had in years! Very fresh and flavorful! Glad i went for happy hour! Service wasn’t the best maybe my server was just having a bad day or maybe she just had a crappy attitude. But the delicious food made it all worth it! Very clean bathrooms too! They also have fresh wasabi if you ask for it.

Google
Great new restaurant. We had the Tori Karaage meal and several sushi rolls. The staff was fantastic and we are glad this new neighborhood spot opened up! Can’t wait to come back to try the Ramen.

I stopped here for a quick and affordable lunch since it was right down the street from my appointment. I ordered the 2 rolls for $13 lunch special. Since the crab rangoon were so highly rated online I ordered some of those too. The crab rangoon and the California Roll both appeared to be made with real crab and not the imitation crab you find at other places. They also served it with spicy mayo instead of the usual sweet and sour or duck sauce which was a nice touch. Bonus that the food was delivered by robot. 🤖 The paintings on the wall were a very nice touch too to the decor.

Checked out this low key sushi place right in the heart of Brookside. I got the Kansas City Roll and Rainbow Roll. Both were delicious. Our waitress was super nice. It wasn't very busy when we went just because it was after lunch and before dinner. I would love to come back for dinner for a night time vibe. It had a nice, sleek and simple atmosphere. I loved the painted cherry blossoms on the wall!

My husband and I stopped in and had the most amazing experience complete with chef choices that more than surpassed expectations with the freshest fish and unique flavor profiles. Not only was the staff beyond friendly providing top tier service, they even took note of it being our anniversary and presented us with the sweetest anniversary card at the end of dinner! We can’t wait to come back for another amazing dining experience.

Google
Excellent experience! We were in early and sat at the kitchen bar where we enjoyed drinks and apps. For dinner we had nigiri and raman. Parking is a premium (I mean, it's Brookside) Highly recommend.

Ramen, dumplings, sushi, robots...need I say more?? This cute and quaint Japanese restaurant and sushi bar found in the Brookside neighborhood serves fresh and delicious entrees. Start your meal off with the tasty homemade crab Rangoons and dumplings. The wings are absolutely mouthwatering too! There is a robot inside of the restaurant that will bring your appetizers and sushi rolls to your table...how cool! For our entree, we enjoyed one sushi roll and two spicy ramens. The ramen was loaded with flavor, noodles, veggies, meat, and eggs. This is a great spot to go with family, a nicer friend's outing, or on a date. If you are looking for a top ramen and sushi spot in the Kansas City area, Sayachi is one place you do not want to miss out on!

Google
The sushi was above average. This place is new, so I plan to check back at some point in the future. However, the atmosphere is a little lacking. There's lots of great opportunity for atmosphere; like a bar and other excellent decor features. It just is a little bland, and I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that people haven't discovered it yet. I evaluate the price of sushi in a restaurant based on the price of their rainbow roll. Here it is $16. That is the most expensive rainbow roll I have ever seen in the midwest. Lunch for two with a Coke and a beer cost $50. I don't see myself having lunch here everyday, but I will definitely consider it again for some special occasions.

Yelp
Nice happy hour vibe on the patio or for me a midweek intimate getaway for sushi! Atmosphere was traditional and comfortable.

Yelp
This is a go to restaurant for my family and I. Even my kiddos love it! Great sushi and very filling. Wish the menu was a little bigger though Following up my previous review - much better!

Yelp
Stopped in this evening & enjoyed their happy hour. Our server was attentive & pleasant. The KC roll & wings were really great. We will visit again!

Yelp
I absolutely love it here! The food is amazing, food is always fresh and delicious, if you like, or love Japanese food, you can't go wrong here! The servers are very polite very pleasant always willing to go over and beyond to make their customers happy. I love the atmosphere whether I am indoors or outdoors. They always have music playing. It's not overwhelming. It's very calming and soothing.

Yelp
I give this place an A++. Even though they were super busy this Mother's Day, the service and food were excellent!! They have the best crab rangoon I've ever tasted. Everything we tried on the menu was delicious. The spicy mayo sauce is out of this world good. Plus, the server was knowledgeable and full of charm. You can tell the server (Michael) loves his job, takes pride in his work, and is masterful at his craft. The prices may be a couple of dollars more than other sushi bars, but the food is incredibly fresh and well worth the price. This restaurant is now easily our favorite sushi place in KC. We'll definitely be back! They even have outdoor seating!!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Went during happy hour and it was a very chill atmosphere! They have a robot that will drop off the food! Crab rangoons were tasty but the dipping sauce was just not for me. It was too heavy and made the crab Rangoon to savory for my liking. The rolls were pretty tasty! Definitely a good spot for happy hour!

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! I can't stop thinking about the squid salad, it cannot be missed!

Yelp
Because I work just a couple of blocks away from Sayachi, I have picked up lunch from here a few times when I want some Japanese food. They have some pretty good lunch specials. I really love their karage fried chicken- it's so crispy and delicious. I have also had the bento box with fish- it comes with rice, miso soup, cucumber salad, and a sushi roll (I got the California roll). I wouldn't recommend the grilled fish- I think it was just a frozen tilapia filet, and on the pricier side. I have never been here for happy hour, but it looks like they have some good HH specials too. All in all, I'll probably be back here again sometime!

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch with my family and the food was incredible. My little siblings loved their robot. While the presentation was very plain, the food was fresh and flavorful. Staff are very friendly and we saw the smiles on their faces when they saw that the kids enjoyed the robots that serve the food.

Yelp
What's there to say about an experience that was incredibly meh. From the moment we walked in we wondered why there was only one other table with people there and from the moment we sat down we begun to understand why. The server was incredibly bad. He forgot the order, did not write it down, came back 5 min later to ask about something her forgot about the order, and then when it came out we were still missing things. In addition, the nigiri was very underwhelming while also incredibly overpriced for how small and blah it tasted.
google avatar

Ben V.

Yelp
Great experience. We went on a Wednesday, which is all-day happy hour. The service was great, multiple people touching the table and the teamwork goes a long way with the service. It's a cool spot, they have a robot bring food so I can see kids enjoying that. It could be a bit more upbeat but overall it's very comfortable. The happy hour menu isn't huge, but worth a visit if you're looking for a quick sushi bite!

Yelp
Saw this place pop on a Yelp List of places to try and I found it a little overrated. Started with sake, miso and wings and those were the best things we tasted! Our visit was 1 year into the pandemic and tables were still limited (thank you!) so it was surprising how long the sushi took. There were maybe 8 tables inside and our sushi took close to 50 minutes. The nigiri was small, the blue crab roll was so dry but we did enjoy their special scallop roll. Disappointing. Staff was great and kept the drinks coming, during the LONG wait for fish, but our bill skyrocketed and we left hungry. Glad to see they were busy though!

Yelp
My mezcal drink was delicious, the margarita was ok. Highly recommend the dumplings and edamame as appetizers. The ramen was a B- and my boyfriend rated the grilled tilapia as a A- I would recommend this restaurant, especially their happy hour menu. Lastly, the service was wonderful.

Yelp
Best sushi I have ever tried in KC! Literally every piece melts in your mouth! Prices are definitely not generous but for how fresh the fish is...its worth for a special day. The restaurant has a night patio in the back and extra parking. The server was pleasant but was managing a lot of customers so things were quite slow so ended up ordering less food sadly. If your wanting sushi, try this place. Its really good, but be prepared to open your wallet and have some extra time for your meal.
google avatar

Jimmy N.

Yelp
Sayachi is a place you go for the highest quality nigiri and sashimi in KC. Fish are flown from Japan, this is the same owner as Jarocho. The authentic raw dishes are not decorative nor has tons of sauce to cover up the true freshness of the fish. This place represents what a sushi place in Japan should be. No frills, just high quality fish served in a simple presentation and traditional flavor with a hint of Mexican zest (owners are hispanic and Japanese). Service was ok, but we're just happy that they're open after what they've been through since 2020. Just be happy we have a great sushi place that cares about fish quality.

Yelp
Food was very tasty the goyza was lovely. The Hamacha was excellent. The spicy tuna roll could have been a bit spicier and there could have been a bit more tuna in there for my taste. Love my handy sushi restaurants in brookside. Folks that took my order and during pickup they're just very pleasant.

Yelp
Sayachi is a relatively new spot, and I'm glad I got to try it. They have a small happy hour menu if you're into it with drinks and appetizers and a few sushi rolls! Parking is just street parking (very limited, so make enough time for that). Atmosphere wise, It is casual, without too much fuss. Unfortunately there was a very drunk customer when we were there who kept going from table to table to engage everyone who clearly did not want to talk to him - staff didn't do much to stop him from doing so. Our server also was not very knowledgeable about the menu, but it was only his second day so I don't blame him at all! Overall, they have pretty good food, but in general their portions are pretty small compared to other Japanese restaurants Their chicken karaage was deliciously seasoned and crispy, although the portion was really small. The Sayachi ceviche was also small portion (3-4 bites) with only 4 little chips, although it was very well seasoned. Their rainbow roll has very thin fish slices on top of it - not worth the price point. I would recommend sticking to the regular maki rather than the special rolls - they do run small. They have good drinks; and Japanese beer! Hear hear! I will be back, and happy to try more of the menu.

Yelp
We got sushi takeout with their lunch deal and it was GREAT. One of the best sushi meals we have had in Kansas City. We got the shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, and yellow tail rolls. All were good. Also the edamame was great too. Overall yummy and pretty reasonable!
google avatar

Yelp
It's everything for me! Great drinks, great food, and great service. They have a wonderful happy hour menu. From the chicken wings to the sushi, it's divine.

Yelp
Long day at work and in the mood for a new experience, we stopped in to Sayachi for the first time. The new ownership has made good improvements to the space. The previous monstrosity of a bar is now gone... divided into an alcohol bar and a sushi bar... much more appropriate. Great hostess, immediately greeted by our waiter. The staff was very professional and attentive. All were dressed alike with cool leather aprons. Menu was clear and easy to understand. Food was absolutely fantastic! So fresh, so clean, not "saucy", very carefully presented. Everything from edamame to the sushi was 101% on-point. Ordered a martini with dinner. Very nicely made. A touch disappointed with the pour but the drink was well made. Keeping in mind, I still give Sayachi a 5-star review, it is admittedly a bit overpriced. I was disappointed at the portion / meal size vs the bill received at the end of the meal. Overall, so happy to see this space re-opened. Delighted to have more than one sushi option in Brookside. Fingers crossed they survive, afraid they may be hard pressed to keep their head above water and their tables full with the local competition. We would recommend giving Sayachi a try at least once... just prep your pocketbook!

Yelp
The food is always fresh, the service is great and personable. Thoroughly enjoyable atmosphere! Too
google avatar

Kaveh N.

Yelp
The sushi was ok. The atmosphere is nice but doesn't make up for the mediocre food. The fried tofu was the best indicator that their tempura skills have not been perfected. Tofu has to be dry and low moisture before it can be fried.

Yelp
My wife and I went here for the first time this weekend and loved it! This is the top echelon of sushi places in Kansas City! I got the KC roll and it was really good. It's with salmon and cream cheese with chili sauce on the top. The only thing it lacks is some crunch. I got the margarita which was good but a little sweet for my liking. My wife got the purple cocktail (I can't remember the name) but she loved it! My wife's favorite part was the nigiri and she said it was so fresh and delicious! We had fantastic service from Paul and we'll be back
google avatar

Azile Y.

Yelp
The fish quality is very good! Everything tasted fresh. The robot server with the loud Elmo voice definitely had me confused and a little incredulous... It's maybe the first one I've ever seen, and not something I expected to see in KC of all places. The human server was, however, a total pro. Fun art murals on the walls. The menu is not extensive, which is kind of nice. Some of the prices don't match between the menu and the table top menu... The ikura is $7 on one and $9 on the other, and it's the exact same serving. I had the seaweed salad, yellowtail hand roll, then my own a la cart assortment of nigiri: Eel, scallop and mackerel, all tasty.

Yelp
I found this place on accident when going to UPS. It has a good location but in all honesty I was disappointed. We walked in and the place was empty, we sat on the patio which is nice. The service was very slow for being empty. We started with the Tebasaki wings which were the best things we had. They were full of flavor and had a good crispy outside. The Unagi roll was good, it was a tad heavy on what tasted like hoisin sauce. The ramen was bland, and didn't have any seaweed in it. I will credit them for cooking the noodles perfectly!! The Ebi tempura was what you'd get anywhere else. I was disappointed to find no oysters on the menu after several other reviews has posted. Our server was nice. Overall, I'm not sure I'd come back.
google avatar

Yelp
This has to be my top three sushi spots purely for the quality. I have been here several times now so that I can slowly try everything on the menu. The environment is cozy since it's a smaller space. The mixed drinks are fair. They do have a sushi robot that delivers your sushi. It was confusing my first time though because I was unsure if I or my server was supposed to grab it . I had my birthday party here and we were able to reserve seats to accommodate the large crowd which is also great to know. The sushi can be slightly on the pricier side depending on where you go but the quality is outstanding and well worth the price. Service has always been great as well and the sushi comes out in a fair amount of time. l definitely come back as it is a rare place for quality sushi. Melt in your mouth umami flavors.

Yelp
Went here during a weekday afternoon and we were the only ones in there. The waiter barely acknowledged us and wasn't very attentive. It was also slightly warm inside, which I don't like at a sushi restaurant. We ordered the agedashi tofu, gyoza, the lola roll and the blue crab roll. The agedashi tofu dish was delicious upon the first bites with the crispy mochi-esque coating on the outside and the soft tofu inside. The dashi broth was savory and flavorful. But after a few bites, the outside coating becomes soggy and impossible to handle. The flavors were too much and I would've been happy to stop after one piece. The gyoza was delicious. Probably some of the best I've had. The lola roll was also very good, with the creamy sauce complementing the seafood roll itself. The blue crab roll was a letdown, especially for the price. Not very flavorful and barely any crab inside and on top (as seen in the picture). Overall, with the service lacking and the prices being as high as they are, I wouldn't come back again. I wanted something to absolutely knock my socks off for the price and unfortunately I didn't get that.
google avatar

Jordan K.

Yelp
Always down to try a new sushi spot (especially with Nara closing). Sayachi had one of the best drink menus I've seen at a sushi restaurant with a wide variety of specialty cocktails that were very unique. The crab rangoons had real crab and way more flavor than most. We split a specialty and two classic rolls and it was a perfect amount for two people. Definitely recommend Sayachi (and I'd also recommend making a reservation on the weekends)!
google avatar

Amanda D.

Yelp
Delicious, fun, clean, and convenient! We went here before Locked Zoo (a Kansas City zoo event). They have happy hour on Saturday until 6 and an great list of options to chose from. We ordered the crab Rangoon, wings, a couple drinks from the happy hour, and a few sushi rolls from the happy hour menu and regular menu. It was delicious! The wings were an unexpected favorite! I've never had wings like they cook them! Try these!!! All of the rolls we ordered were spectacular. I don't think you can go wrong with any. Cool bonus, a robot delivers your food! That was just neat and unexpected.
google avatar

Rambo L.

Yelp
Food very flavorful. Had wings, fried rice and crab Rangoon. The fried rice was super delicious with extra glaze from the chicken on top! A Robot even brings the food to you! Will visit here again!
google avatar

Reese A.

Yelp
Very disappointed in this place. I sent the tofu back, it was super slimy and squishy. Our server, Anthony was awful. He did not care. He charged us for the food I sent back and did not eat because it was so bad. Most restaurants don't charge for food that was not consumed.
google avatar

Anh D.

Yelp
This place took me by surprise, they have an authentic food selection, everything was unique and fresh, I was impressed (especially the butter oysters.) I enjoyed the atmosphere a lot. They have a lovely setting in the back patio with tons of perfect live plants, which was where we were seated. Overall this was a refreshing brunch place.

T M.

Yelp
First time at this place and it's delicious! I love the robot server and also their real human, Ms. Dulce! The service was great the food is wonderful and the music is the perfect volume. I did not give it 5-stars because they have the premix crab with mayonnaise, and I do not eat mayonnaise. Unfortunately, they would not make me a roll without it. I would 100% still go back, and order again: 1. Ready aim fire was delicious (cocktail) 2. Gyoza 3. Ensenada roll (this came mayonnaise free because it's a shrimp tempura inside). 4. Chefs choice 7 piece nigiri Overall, delicioso!

Yelp
Stopped by today and had a great experience, the food is high quality and everything we ate was really good. Loved the little robot delivering the food, it was too cute!
google avatar

K T.

Yelp
Honestly, we were very disappointed. First, they didnt welcome walk-in customers, kept telling us they have a full list reservation but there were 6 tables were opened. When we were ready to walk out, then he said there was one table was available. Well, good news then. Second, food portion were small and overpriced. Compared to Bob Wasabi Kitchen, Sayachi only worth 2stars. The main reason I gave one star is, we ordered 3xRamen noodles with pork belly, but meat were missing while we have them. They cost $15 per order. Thats ridiculous experience at all. Definitely, not going back.
google avatar

Li-Shin L.

Yelp
Came here for lunch with my family and everything was fantastic! The pricing and portion of the food was good and everything came out super yummy! The staffing was friendly and helpful and everything came out fast and fresh! The lunch menu is also a must have!
google avatar

Yelp
Got a seaweed salad that was super yummy and a good size and added cucumber to my rainbow roll for an extra $1, definitely worth it, service was great and they have this cool little robot thing that brings your food to your table.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious sushi and cute little robot waiter that brought us our food! Fun experience and great food.

Yelp
Love this place!! Service is friendly, love the quality of the sushi. And a local business you want to suppor. jarocho is just as yummy!
google avatar

Yelp
Such a neat experience! They have a robot that serves your food, happy hour after 8:00 pm has amazing prices, and the food was great!
google avatar

Jake M.

Yelp
First off, Tyler is amazing and so are the other service staff. Second, you would not know there isn't an ocean in KC. The quality of the sushi is great!
google avatar

Priscilla P.

Yelp
This spot is not too shabby. My boyfriend and I went during happy hour because I was craving oysters. We ordered 12 but sadly they only had 7 left. We took what we could get. The oysters were fresh and good. We also decided to order the wings, gyozas, and a lobster. The wings had a good flavor. The gyozas were also tasty. Next time I'll prob ask for them to make the gyozas more crispy just because I like that texture. The lobster was a little over grilled but still delicious.
google avatar

Spencer M.

Yelp
Great happy hour. Love going for reverse happy hour or all day on Wednesday. Spicy crab roll is delicious. Wings are a good app to start with. Edamame is excellent here. Outside patio has a nice vibe. Service is good and consistent
google avatar

Matt C.

Yelp
Good food, but pricey. Besides prices being a little higher on some rolls, the only complaint I have is not being able to change out seaweed wrap with soy paper. I called to make a reservation this past weekend, and asked them if I would be able to switch paper on any of their rolls as I am not a fan of seaweed paper. I was told this would not be a problem. When we got their and started ordering, I noticed they did have a disclaimer in the bottom of their menu saying they don't do any substitution to their rolls, but asked the server if they could change the paper on our rolls, which he said wouldn't be a problem. A few minutes later he came back and said they normally don't do this but they would make an exception. Understand not wanting to switch out main ingredients, but felt changing paper would be simple enough as most every place I have gone to will do this at no charge. Was taken a little off guard when I got the bill and found out I was charged an extra $2 per roll for them to make this change, with the rolls already costing $16 and $18 a piece. For sushi fans I think it is good and worth a try. Drinks are on the pricier side as well, with most of their craft cocktails being $12 or higher. Cheapest beer you will find if Miller High Life for $5. They do have a happy hour menu where you can try some items discounted.
google avatar

Christian M.

Yelp
This place is so good. Definitely top2 in sushi places in KC. The oysters I had were really good. I had 6 of the chili butter and 6 of the stuffed. So tasty, I really enjoyed them. The tuna belly Nigri was awesome, so was the Ensenada roll. The waiter also recommended I get the Lola, because that is a very popular roll. He was not wrong. We also had the unfiltered Saki, and that was a great recommendation as well. Even the people at our table who didn't like saki enjoyed. I can wait to come back.
google avatar

Lena M.

Yelp
I literally am so obsessed. I've been around the world. And I have spent a lot of time on the coast and Hawaii so I'm pretty hip to fresh fish and sushi. A lot of places in Kansas City are hit and miss. But I literally love this place. The food is so fresh, I think the place is so cute, and the service was great. After we left all I did was think about the spicy scallop hand rolls!! Coming back. This is gonna be my go to spot. ILY

Yelp
I'm really disappointed to be giving this review. My husband and I have been eagerly awaiting the opening of this place for months, as we love Jarocho's. We heard that it had finally opened, so we stopped in on a Friday night. Overall, the experience was average. It started out bad and ended better. First off, it was our first time, and our server did not explain the menu or their offerings. We only found out after we ordered that they offered a prix fixe menu. However, he did go over the specials, but that was it. We decided to order gyoza as an appetizer and two old fashioneds. Unfortunately, the gyoza came out cold, and the cocktails were tiny. They looked sample size! They were $14 a piece and came out in a strange crystal dish. Second, we ordered some sashimi- tuna, octopus, and eel. All were really good. Then on to the oysters. I thought they were good, but my husband thought they smelled a little funky. Finally, we ordered ceviche, a spicy tuna roll, and some asparagus wrapped beef. Again, all those were good, but the portions were small, as others have mentioned. Overall, the vibe of the restaurant was hard to pin down. The music was loud, and it was extremely hard to hear our server or each other as we talked. I truly hope they work out the kinks. I'd like this place to be successful. But, I must say, we were disappointed by our first experience.
