"Scargo Café in Dennis, founded in 1987 and owned by brothers Peter and David Troutman, remains a popular year-round spot for lunch and dinner after nearly 40 years in business. Open every day of the week, Scargo offers up New England classics like calamari, seafood chowder, grilled swordfish, lobster Florentine, and an assortment of sandwiches. The wine list is impressive, and the hot fudge sundae and cheesecake are not to be missed. Half of the tables are kept open for walk-ins, and while there may be a wait during the busy season, it is well worth it." - Anna Darrow

To describe Scargo would be refined casual. Called to book and the recording was well thought out and impressive but not over the top. Loved it! The night we arrived early, table was ready. Staff well trained and formal but relaxed. Very busy did not have to wait long for drinks or food. Tuna martini starter, perfect. Seafood strudel was delicious and size was generous but not flowing over the side of the plate. Steak is thick and perfect. Highly recommend!

Wonderful! My girlfriend and I just went for the first time today, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Friendly and prompt service, a clean and comfortable atmosphere, and phenomenal food. Definitely more upscale than your laid-back beach joints down the road. We got the French onion soup, seafood chowder, and lobster rolls. All were probably the best we've ever had. $125 (before tip) for the food and two beers. Considering the quality of the restaurant, I'd say the prices are very much worth it. We were dressed pretty casually, which staff didn't seem to mind at all, but I'd probably at least wear a nicer shirt next time. Only complaint is that the water really needed ice, but that's such a miniscule thing. 10/10 would return!

Awesome place for lunch or dinner, food and service are outstanding! Anke and Staci are professional and helpful servers, it’s clear they care they want you to have great experience! The shrimp salad and grape nut custard were delicious. The bread was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, baked perfectly. Scargo Cafe is a “do not miss” when you’re on the cape!

Delicious food- really enjoyed the shrimp cocktail and Buddha bowl. Drinks were a little sweet for my taste.

Google
Classic food. Not special delicious and not bad either. The lamb is nicely cooked , very tender but it’s lacking the texture and flavor of mutton. Fried oysters is a bit too salty and small.

Enjoyed a wonderful dinner celebration for my sister in laws birthday. We had a quaint private room for our seating. The waitress very very friendly and attentive. The dinners were delicious. We enjoyed the Seafood Studel, Scrod with potato and corn chowder and chicken carbonara. The atmosphere was delightful all decked out tastefully for the holidays. A wonderful experience overall.

I've had 4 meals in Cape Cod so far, and this is our favorite meal to date. Everything was delicious. The drinks, the food, the dessert. We ordered oysters and they were delicious and fresh. I highly recommend the seafood strudel!

Friends and I went here for lunch. It is popular with locals. I met a woman who has been coming for 30 years. You can make reservations. We didn't have one so it was a 20 minute wait. We walked across the street to the cute shop and browsed while we waited. I loved the seafood chowder. It had a mix of seafood in a lobster bisque soup. It was definitely rich and I probably couldn't consume more than the cup. I then got the fried blue corn scallops with sweet potatoes and kale. That was good but missing an acid of sort. Service was friendly but a bit forgetful. Overall, I would come back.

Yelp
I enjoyed my birthday dinner here at Scargo Cafe. The restaurant has great ambiance and is located on beautiful RTE 6A on Cape Cod. For starters, we shared the artichoke and spinach dip which was amazing. One of the best we ever had. The menu had great selections for meat eaters and vegetarians alike. I enjoyed the Mongolian Pork chop which I paired with an Australian Shiraz. The pork was cooked to perfection and the sides, braised red cabbage and mashed potatoes, were great. My spouse enjoyed the Tofu Power Bowl. She went with one of their signature cocktails, the Poinsettia. Service was attentive and timely. Though being on Thursday night in the middle of winter, the restaurant was pretty full. Highly recommend reservations any time of year and I can only imagine how busy this place is in the summer.

Yelp
A waitress/waiter can make or break your dining experience Anke did just that . Right from taking our orders, she engaged in conversation with us. She had many other customers to attend to but periodically came to check on us. As we continued our long overdue visit, Anke had a dessert that was not going to be used! She brought it to us with two spoons Even after the meal because the restaurant had a break from lunch to dinner break, Anke continued a conversation with us when she could have used the time as her break! As I was leaving,I heard one of the waitress signing I said how nice to be happy at work and she said, " we all love our jobs here" What a great atmosphere for the employees . We will be back .Maybe even in November with our scratch tickets for discounts Always a pleasure and food always delicious . Jackie Soltys

Yelp
Lunch was fantastic. Meatloaf special....no need to wash the dish when I finished. Grapenut custard is just over the top delicious.

Alan L.

Yelp
Comfortable room and good food. The meal highlights were very good: - Tuna Martini - Blue Corn Encrusted Sea Scallops - Grapenut custard Two things were disappointing: - On My Front Porch Swing cocktail - The Lobster Florentine sauce (the Lobster was delicious) The service was attentive and helpful. We will return for the Tuna Martini and to try other dishes.

Yelp
The cutest little restaurant! Went there to celebrate my mother's birthday and got the spinach and artichoke dip that was so so good and even better when dipped with the bread. Unfortunately we filled up on that and only had a couple bites of our main dish but so worth it. We shared the scallops and the short rib and they were so so good. Especially love the mashed potatoes had a type of ham in it. Will definitely be coming back.

Yelp
Lovely restaurant in historic Dennis, MA, stopped in for lunch on our way to the Cape. Service was excellent and the food was delicious. The sweet potato fries are insanely good!! The Chicken Carbonara had more peas than pasta or chicken, but the flavor was good. The Portobello sandwich was very good.

Jim H.

Yelp
Great food & great service by Nicolette. The Pasta Primavera was enjoyed by my wife while I had a Scallop fried corn plate which was the best I have ever had. The bar was crowded so we left but because of the 6A detour we actually came back & Edina at the bar took great care of us with libations.

David C.

Yelp
Had 7PM reservation got seated right on time. Wait staff was slow to the acknowledge our table but eventually made his way. We ordered some wine and an appetizer a Caesar salad and we requested tomatoes and balsamic vinegar on the side. Salad was undressed and basically just romaine lettuce with cheese on it. Ordered our meals while we were eating our salad assuming the food would be spaced out properly, it was not. The entrées came while we were just eating our salad. I ordered the seafood strudel and my wife ordered pasta prima Vera with chicken. My meal came with mixed vegetables and mashed potatoes. Rather than critiquing everything I will just say the meal was equal to the 99 Restaurant quality. Overall though everyone was friendly and courteous it is very average at best and adding up all of the other things that went wrong I think I was very fair giving a rating of 3. The Old Yarmouth Inn is a giant step up from Scargo and I believe they are in the same category of restaurants, not Top Tier but next tier down. Probably will not go back.

Elissa R.

Yelp
This was my first time at Scargo and it certainly won't be the last. Ambiance was INCREDIBLE. It feels so cozy inside, that's the best way I can describe it. All of the staff were super friendly. We ordered the steak Diane (which was a special), the Mongolian pork chop, and the sweet potato dippers. Everything was INCREDIBLE. Truly incredible, everything tasted so fresh, and was full of flavor. Also the honey mustard that came with the sweet potato dippers paired perfectly. I can't wait to come back!

Yelp
Having been meaning to try this restaurant for some time and today we made it. Plenty of parking. Very nice interior in a building that may have been a house. Excellent selection of menu options. Pleasant service. Warm bread was outstanding. Fish sandwich and shrimp salad were delicious and were prepared promptly. Pricing reasonable given food quality and presentation. Bar area looked very nice although we sat in the dining area. This restaurant will now be on our regular rotation for Cape Cod. THE Doctor ( Notorious MD) highly recommends The Scargo Cafe.

Pamela T.

Yelp
Tried SCARGO for dinner last night. They were super crowded but do take reservations. Drinks selection was good. We started with oysters that were fresh and tasty. I ordered the short ribs with mashed potatoes. I wish it came with a vegetables also but didn't. It was really tender and delicious. My husband ordered the filet mignon with scalloped potatoes and vegetables. It was a nice fillet and he said it was delicious. Our waitress was wonderful. So attentive and accommodating. We will definitely be back.

Margaret L.

Yelp
My hat goes off to the care and attention Scargo gives to their customers! The hostess was wonderful and understanding that we needed a quiet area to be able to hear one another. Gus, our waiter, could not have been more kind and attentive to us. We are 3 women over 80 (1 almost 90) who haven't seen each other in 2 yrs and Scargo staff just made our day even more special. The food was also as good as always! Thank you for being so kind, M.

Daniel B.

Yelp
First off, service was terrific and the room was well appointed and comfortable, as expected. Larry was a fine server. I ordered a virgin Mary which was fine but the olive that garnished it was not a fresh from the jar, beautiful olive, but a bruised one that was left over from last night's bar stock. Ick. Now to the food. I started off with a shrimp martini. I ordered the 'half' but received the 'whole' order. The shrimp were served nicely in a chilled silver martini coupe. The sauce was bright and tasty but the shrimp were obviously defrosted cooked shrimp and not house cooked. I wouldn't have minded getting the whole order if they were delicious, but alas they were not. Next I ordered the Eggs Benedict but asked for regular bacon rather than Canadian which was not a problem. The eggs were perfectly poached and the hollandaise was excellent. The side of breakfast potatoes was tasty. A mixed bag here. It was a little bit of a drive for us considering Cape Cod traffic on a Sunday morning so I doubt we'll go back.

Nick L.

Yelp
This location has a full restaurant with outdoor seating and a separate bar section so you can sit back and relax or have dinner. Try to get a table in the restaurant side outside on a warm day, you won't be disappointed. This restaurant has a full menu and complete bar selection. The staff is very courteous and attentive and food and drinks are served quickly. The overall quality of the meal and drinks are high grade. Parking can be a little challenging but the business next-door allows you to park in their lot. Because of its location (Route 6A Dennis) and menu quality and choices, the restaurant is on a expensive side, however as usual you get what you pay for.

David D.

Yelp
Having a reservation is definitely helpful here. The Honey and I were seated as we walked in - even though the bar area was crowded - with people dining at the bar and those who were waiting for a table. The place is beautiful, the large old house turned into a restaurant, without losing the feeing of dining in a friend's house. The service is outstanding, with helpful, courteous and capable staff. We started with the "small" Caesar salads - well dressed, crisp and flavorful. I chose the CitrusSea Scallops, the Honey, the Mongolian Pork Chop. Delicious - both. Perfectly cooked, well seasoned and beautifully plated. Yum!

Jim P.

Yelp
Three of us visited Scargo Cafe on a Thursday night. Crowded but everything moved along well. We got our table promptly, the waitress was attentive but not bothersome, our food was terrific. The French Onion Soup was to die for; the Calamari done the only good way (RI style), and the salad was terrific. The desert menu is quite limited. Highly recommended.

Gretchen J.

Yelp
Flippin' incredible. We had a pretty lousy vacation with weather so we tried to make the most out of our food experience. Our first attempt at a 4.5 star place did not pan out as intended. Take two, our final night before heading home, I landed on Scargo We were hoping for good and got THE BEST! This venue is beautiful, I love being in the home there are a lot of different areas to sit and they're all warm and inviting. Our server Hannah, was super kind and attentive. Her recommendations were spot on. We had the pork chop with mashed potatoes and braised cabbage. I looooved this dish. I mean, I'd lick the plate clean if it wasn't frowned upon. My husband wanted something light and refreshing and ordered the Buddha bowl. He said all the components were perfect. Our kid got the chicken tenders which were made fresh and the few bites I nabbed were crispy, juicy and excellent. Then to top it off we got the blueberry cobbler and holy moly - sweet and tart. Delicious. The bread was hot and crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. It didn't last long. I also got the Crantucket Lemonade and hope I can replicate at home! It was a sneaky drink!!

Katie H.

Yelp
Beautiful and quaint establishment. The food was fantastic and service exceptional. We have now been for dinner and lunch. Both times we have been very pleased. Prices are high, but the food quality so far has been worth the price tag.

Scot Z.

Yelp
Food was so good. Bread was top 1%. Service staff was great. Highly recommend for anyone in or visiting Dennis

Jean H.

Yelp
Friendly staff members and cozy cape vibe. We got a a cup of seafood stew, grilled beet salad with candied walnuts, and a corn beef sandwich. Seafood stew was a bit salty to my taste, but the grilled beet salad was very very yummy.

Jim M.

Yelp
This restaurant is consistently excellent. We have gone there the last 3 years on our visit to Cape Cod. Each and every time, the food was great, and the service was outstanding. It is a nice and peaceful atmosphere. Can't wait until my visit next year.

Barry L.

Yelp
Hello, we enjoyed a great lunch here. Ordered from the dinner menu, my scallops were perfectly cooked, the bolognese was spot on. Waitstaff were all very pleasant and accommodating, especially Mary. A very pleasant atmosphere! Highly recommend

Charlotte F.

Yelp
Delicious lunch yesterday seafood chowders, grilled swordfish and seafood baked in puff pastry. Service was excellent which made the experience much more enjoyable, I do not remember his name but, he has beautiful strawberry color hair. Both my husband and I will definitely return.

C S.

Yelp
Wasn't overly impressed with the food but it may have just been what I ordered. We got the spinach and artichoke dip to start then the shrimp scampi flatbread, pasta primavera and spicy chicken sandwich. The dip was kind of bland but decent, pasta also lacking flavor with gigantic chunks of undercooked vegetables. Chicken sandwich and flatbread were good though. Bread is super good! Servers were all very friendly. Interior is very dark and a bit dated. Has potential to be great with some minor improvements. Was crowded on a Monday at 12:30, so can only imagine what its like on the weekends. Make a reservation.

Kay D.

Yelp
TIP: 1. Call ahead or make online reservation if you have a large party. 2. If the reservation is late, do walk-in. You'd have higher chances of less than an hour wait for a table. WHEN: Sunday @ 6pm It's one of my family's favorite restaurants at the cape. They've always had incredible dining experience. We called ahead to make a reservation only to find the earlier reservation is at 8:45pm, scargos reserve 50% of the restaurant for walk-ins. We took our chances to do walk-in around 6:15pm. It was the perfect timing, the wait was only 30min. My party of 5 waited at the bar area. There was couches, chairs and tables open. We ordered a few drinks for start with. The drinks are smaller size glasses which is perfect for me bc I have low alcohol tolerance. We were probably seated around 7pm. Our table was towards the front of the restaurant at the corner area where it's more private and you get a view of route 6A. It was perfect indoor seating area for us. SERVICE excellent! Servers are attentive to our needs, always came to check in on us. They provided water pitcher refills. THE ORDER Swordfish w parm risotto Flounder w spinach and risotto Fried scallops w Steak frites Lobster Florentine BAR DRINKS Cucumber cooler Raspberry refresher Wine Beer Absolutely divine and delicious food. Fresh, high quality seafood, overall another excellent experience at Scargos. The seafood was so tender it was cooked perfectly to my family's liking. Highly recommend for an intimate family dining at the cape.

Linda H.

Yelp
The weather was grey, but you'll feel sunny after eating here. I recommend making reservations even in winter on the Cape. It can be busy. We were seated near the beautiful wood burning fireplace in the bar. The bar has both high tops and tables but it is cozy. The service is friendly and well informed. My husband and I had the most delicious meals. He had salmon in a crisp spring roll with broccolini and potato crisp and a cream sauce. I had chicken carbonara over mashed potatoes. (I requested the mashed potatoes instead of pasta and it was no problem.) This dish was so yummy. The chicken was tender, with plenty of creamy sauce and bacon. (My only note is that if you are on a salt restricted diet this might not be for you.) I had prosecco and my husband a Bloody Mary. The Bloody Mary is not spicy, which he liked. We have eaten at Scargo many times and this restaurant does not disappoint.

Karen W.

Yelp
This is my favorite restaurant in Dennis and among the best on Cape Cod. Food here is very delicious and service is great! The restaurant is lovely also. Great ambience!

Joe K.

Yelp
Another overpriced, sub-par Cape restaurant surviving largely on tourists. I had sole piccata. It was pretty much all breading-minimal sole and absolutely no piccata (other than the lemon wedge served on the plate). The mashed potatoes that came with it were cold. The salad was fine. Service was fine. Won't be back.

Dee U.

Yelp
The filet was drowned in a wine reduction. Literally served in a soup bowl of liquid. Why?? Why do this to what should be perfectly good meat unless you are hiding something like old or not top grade filet? The potatoes had a really strange flavor to them. Odd. Like they were made with expired or sour milk. The spinach was soaked and so limp in the filet sauce. No. Just no.my fault. I just wanted a. Nice filet mignon. I should have realized it would be served ala bathtub full of liquid and either asked for it on the side or not at all. Service was good. Ambience is alright.

Rachelle M.

Yelp
This was our first time visiting Scargo Cafe. Ambiance was great and the staff was super friendly. Food was good and we will definitely come back. Meals we had: Short Ribs - tender and delicious Steak Frites - two of us got this meal, one medium and one medium rare. We found them to be pretty tough and honestly a little small for the price. Probably wouldn't get again. Fries were good. Lobster Florentine - really delicious, plenty of lobster Scampi Flatbread (not pictured) - pretty good, very filling Overall we would definitely recommend Scargo Cafe!

Jenn S.

Yelp
Ambiance was great. It's a cute little spot for dinner if you want something more. The food is good, it just was too fancy for my taste. Service was also amazing. I wish the pasta primavera had more pasta and less veggies.

Christine C.

Yelp
Loved the pear martini to start. French onion soup was delicious and seafood soufflé for my meal was really tasty. We sat at the bar and the Atmosphere is very cozy and inviting.

Monica C.

Yelp
My daughter and I were excited to try this place as vegans. It is generally so hard to find good vegan offerings at restaurants and we were concerned we might not find any options here at the Cape. We were delighted to find the tofu teriyaki power bowl. The fried tofu was cooked well and it was loaded with flavorful, healthy ingredients. My husband also enjoyed his French dip sandwich and fries. Marissa provided excellent and efficient service. Our food came promptly and was hot and delicious! Thank you for a lovely meal! We will be back!!

David B.

Yelp
Good food, fair pricing, friendly prompt service, have returned many times- never disappointed

Stephen F.

Yelp
We went for an early lunch at Scargo Cafe and sat in the tavern which we found quite relaxing. My wife and I each had a drink before lunch and for our meals she had a Reuben and I had the sirloin sandwich special. Both were excellent and the capuccino we ended with was also excellent. Our server was Sage and she couldn't have been better. We will be waiting to see her advice column entitled "Sage Advice" . Overall, great lunch, great place, great service!

Bob M.

Yelp
First time at Scargo with friends for a dinner out. We were greeted and seated immediately upon entering the restaurant. Drink and food menu are all in one two sided sheet making it easy to choose your selections. Server greeted us quickly and took our drink orders. Place was busy so it did take some time for the drinks to appear. By the time they we were ready to place or order. Seafood chowder and French onion soup were ordered as starters. Seafood chowder was creamy and had plenty of seafood in it. The French onion soup was covered in cheese with a large crouton and plenty of onions. The broth however could have used with a much deeper beef flavor. Entrees we're Mongolian pork chop, short ribs, chicken piccata, and their evening special. Dick ala orange.. All of the entries arrived looking spectacular. The duck was perfectly cooked, medium rare accompanied by polenta. The short ribs are covered in a wonderful beef gravy and were tender and fall off the bone tender. The pork chop was perfectly cooked, tender and juicy with a good serving of potatoes. The piccata had tender juicy cuts of chicken, mushrooms and a good amount of garlic. Warn bread and butter was also included with the meal. All entrees had generous portions and were delicious. Dessert menu offered a few items but nothing really exciting. Our server was pleasant and helpful but not what I'd call very attentive. Restaurant is very noisy so having conversations is a little difficult. All in all it was a good experience and we would go back again.

Eric S.

Yelp
Great service, attentive staff. Nice setting, convenient location and parking...food is great. Consistent. Great lobster rolls, the pasta dishes are all good. The sweet potato waffle fries are great. Portions are okay. Menu is on the smaller side. Save room for dessert. On the pricier side but the quality is there. Always busy. Good sign.

Colleen D.

Yelp
Great food and service. Very nice atmosphere and consistently quality food. One of the few places that has a fairly large and diverse menu and can pull it off. This is our go to place when we are looking for a good meal in a relaxed atmosphere.

Morgan D.

Yelp
I had dinner here last week. It was the second time I had been here. The drinks were fabulous and the food is outstanding. The only downfall was the long wait (even on a Monday) and it was a bit noisy for my liking. I'm excited to come back during the off season when it's a little less rowdy!

John R.

Yelp
Great service from friendly staff. Overall really good food. Reasonable prices. Try the braised short ribs, terrific. Year round top restaurant in Mid-Cape,

Frank R.

Yelp
This might be the best restaurant on the Cape. Upscale without the upscale pricing. Great spot and the chef is amazing. Menu is one page but have no fear! Specials and regular menu have enough variety to please.

Sylvie T.

Yelp
Nice gem! Great service! Food has staples and some newer, trendier options! The decor is charming and comfortable.

Jennifer W.

Yelp
What an incredible and unique restaurant this is! Last night there were eight people in our party, celebrating my mother's birthday. It boasts a very impressive selection of wines and specialty cocktails. Note: in addition to indoor seating, there are heated "greenhouses" that look like they offer a more "private" dining experience for smaller parties. Sean was our server. He was truly outstanding. His recommendations were very well thought out. He asked where we were from (whether or not we lived "on Cape") before recommending one dish over another. For example, when I was having trouble deciding between the scallop special and something else, he recommended the scallops since I don't live in New England. My husband decided to order two orders of the chicken wings (they are boneless) and two orders of the spinach and artichoke dip for all of us to share. The spinach and artichoke dip was served piping hot. It was so good. I highly recommend it. The chips that accompany the dip had just the right amount of crunch, too. The chicken wings were a bit on the medium hot side, served with celery and blue cheese dressing. The dressing was so delicious... I embarrassed myself by continuing to ingest it after the wings were devoured. My mother dined on the filet mignon, while my sister chose the short ribs. Others in our party selected the seafood streusel, Buddha bowl, Salmon, Scallop special, and burgers. Everything was beautifully presented and we never had to find waitstaff for drink refills. Our "needs" were anticipated ahead of time. We had a birthday cake and gifts for my mother back at her place, so we passed on dessert. It was hard not to order the famous "Grape Nut Pudding" and other treats to sample. All of the waitstaff worked together to provide seamless delivery of our food. Sean made it seem as though we were his main focus. I mean that as a tremendous compliment.... Because we did not need to look around for him throughout our meal, it just really "flowed." I think this was the best service I have experienced in a restaurant in a very long time. Thank you to everyone working last night - my mother's birthday was extraordinarily special -and delicious- because of you!

Kevin K.

Yelp
The gazpacho was not our favorite. It was more like a tomato juice with chopped vegetables in it than a true gazpacho. The lobster florentine was good, but could have used a little more flavor. We especially enjoyed the grape nut custard for dessert. Our server was friendly and attentive. Overall, it's is a solid restaurant.

Danny F.

Yelp
It's a legitimate 3. In my opinion, no better no less. Everything was absolutely mediocre last two times we went. Got the steak frites yesterday and the steak was terrible. Tough, chewy, flavorless. But everything else was mediocre so I'm gonna stick with the 3 stars instead of 2 because our waitress was great, and I still think the decor is pretty good..

Alison L.

Yelp
Delicious! Our favorite dishes were the short ribs and Mongolian pork chop. Also enjoyed the flounder and seafood strudel. Seafood chowder was also great!

Jeffrey And Wife S.

Yelp
Had a casual lunch here in Sept. I had a Cobb salad and hubs had a fish sandwich. Our young male server was really nice as well as refined and intelligent, and he gave us some good info on local beaches. Food was executed with great care and was excellent. We will def. go back, especially for dinner!

Joan C.

Yelp
Had a fantastic late lunch/early dinner there this week for four of us. We each had a different fish meal and glass of wine and were very pleased. Service, ambiance and food were wonderful.

Aaron W.

Yelp
Great menu, service, and the place is packed year round.... why? Go see for yourself. AW
