Gourmet Hotels in the Austrian Alps: Tyrol’s Finest

"Set in the Serfaus–Fiss–Ladis region, the family-run Schlosshotel Fiss blends hints of its hunting-lodge history with modern, family-friendly amenities, and its MICHELIN-Starred Beef Club is a meat-lover's destination—an 'old-school rotisserie with an Alpine-Asian twist' where executive chef Matthias Seidel grills Wagyu, Duroc pork, lamb and duck (as well as halibut and shrimp) on the Green Egg, while also offering a plant-based concept and thoughtfully crafted vegetarian menus." - Le Guide MICHELIN

Schlosshotel Fiss (Fiss, Tyrol) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Fiss, Austria is spoiled for choice come ski season, being the middle of three municipalities just down the slope from a massive conjoined ski area. On the west side of town sits Schlosshotel Fiss, balancing timeless refinement with a family-oriented suite of activities and play areas. A spacious spa, including a water park, offers a tempting alternative to the slopes. Natural wood paneling, balanced lighting, and framed prints define the rooms, many with a private balcony." - Tablet Hotels

We loved our time at Schlosshotel Fiss. The location was great, particularly the amazing views. The hotel itself was beautiful and extremely child friendly, and there were a number of activities for children nearby as well (with stunning views for adults). This is a perfect hotel for young families, but it may not be right for you if you are looking for a quiet/ adults only experience, given how many young families there are (at least in August). Booked this hotel based on a review in one of my wife’s glossy travel magazines. Certainly sounded like our kind of place - Alps to explore, included cable cars tickets for the duration of our stay plus a water slide to entertain our teenage son. Win, win.|The location didn’t disappoint. Up a steep hill ( wouldn’t recommend if you have mobility issues ) in a village called Fiss. Well connected with other 2 close by villages Serfaus and Ladis by a bus ( also free of charge if staying at the hotel).|This hotel isn’t cheap. We had high expectations . |On the second day we realised that this hotel is nothing more than an expensive kids club where kids are let loose and run absolute riot. No one bats an eye! They screamed, cried, ran through the corridors all the day long and well into the evening. The only way to escape was to leave the hotel for the day. |I also noticed some of them walked barefoot in the restaurant and bar areas. We had to ring reception one day as a small kid seemed to have been left alone in the room above us and wouldn’t stop crying.|Second issue: there is no adult only pool which means once all the kids decent on it you have no chance of getting any laps in. |The only time we swam was at 7am! Kids swim time - more like adult swim time. It often felt like public leisure centre rather than 5 star hotel. |Feeling p….d off is an understatement. |Third issue: Food - nowhere near good enough. Lunch: only soups and cold salad. Baked potatoes if u lucky. Didn’t eat much. Evening: Someone comes up with this so called a la cart menu every night, throws in few fancy french names to make it sound posher that no one knew what they meant. |Octopus anyone?? Foam soup? There is so called ‘alternative menu ‘ to order from if you dont fancy sea creatures but costs extra. Why? Surely mashed potatoes are cheaper to make…I refuse to pay extra for dinner that is meant to be included in your room rate out of principle. Kids buffet it is then. |Also, Most nights the only dessert was ice cream from a tub. Very poor.|We left disappointed and ripped off if I’m honest. There are plenty of hotels around this area, I wouldn’t hesitate to book on of them next time at the fraction of the cost.

Our experience was top class in every way. While the location and facilities cannot be beat, the true difference maker was the wonderful interactions we had with staff members throughout our stay. Most importantly our children aged 2 and 6 thrived at the hotel, which added to our comfort and enjoyment as parents. Additional high marks for the luxury board, wine and cocktails which were top notch throughout. Can’t wait to return.

Don’t hesitate to book …this is our 4th visit! 5* all inclusive luxury in every aspect of the hotel, great family rooms, incredible spa with water slide, jacuzzis, huge pool which goes from inside to outside, amazing adult spa with multiple steam and saunas and a family spa too where you can take the kids. The food is out of this world the best buffet and then at dinner you have a choice to have a 5 course Michelin standard meal or buffet and you have a choice of about 30 cheeses too with truffle honey which is a must! Never eaten so much but beautiful food and the kids loved it too! The customer service is excellent from the cleaners, bar men, waiters/waitresses to reception staff can’t fault them. I struggle daily with back pain (the beds are very comfortable) and the second night they added a foam topper to help my back. A special mention to the guys down in the hotel ski shop so helpful and charming nothing is too much trouble and so brilliant with our kids. Pop up the lift straight onto the slopes what more can you ask for! Our kids feel so relaxed in this hotel they happily go down to the kids play area where there is gaming, pool, table football, a climbing wall area so we finish supper in peace! So sad to be leaving and cannot wait to come back again!

Unique point (not considered in my typical reviews): The staff/service was amazing, let me say that again, amazing! Kids club: All kids are collocated in a single area. The staff are really good and the head of the kids club pointed out something about our son that we didn’t really think about before, which has been helpful. Room: Really nice, I think all rooms have a bathtub. The views are great. Food: The best food out of any hotel we have been in Europe. If you are a "foodie," than this is likely the closest you can get in the kinderhotel experience. They have kids club lunch and dinners (not all kinderhotels do). Drinks: Alcohol is not included, but the bar staff makes great drinks that are worth the price. The wine cellar is well stocked. Spa: Really good spa/sauna/steam room situation with adult only and kids area. There is a relaxation room between the pool and spa which is nothing short of what you’d see in a movie. They also have a great plunge pool for those into a hot/cold combo. Special Amenities: An elevator from the boot room that takes you high enough on the ski slopes to get to the gondolas, truly unique and amazing. Playgrounds: Nothing major here. But, being so close to the slopes is a great alternative. Pool: Great kids and adult pool, and very warm water, which is so nice. The outside hot tub is also really quite something. Sitting in the cold snow watching people ski while you are relaxing in a hot tub, tough to describe. Location: Not downtown Fiss, but walkable. But, the location near the lifts where you don’t have to walk… at all… is amazing. Parking: They will park your car and take your bags from your car to your room and when leaving from your room to your car (I wish every hotel had this).

Really one of the best ski in/ out hotels I have ever experienced. The food is good, the location is perfect, the in- and outdoor heated swimming pools are great both in summer and winter. There is nothing that comes to mind that could be better. I have been here 3 times and looking forward to return in the winter of 2025.

We have been spending our ski vacation at the hotel for the past 3 years and we already want to reserve our next ski vacation and it is only the month of May. This hotel is that amazing that we want to go again and again. I love the location, the incredible food and the perfect service. Keep up the amazing work Shlosshotel Fiss.
