Wonderful old fashioned Candy store. Their specialty is Chocolates. The service is very good. There is a large variety of Chocolates. They also have an assortment of other sweet treats. The prices are reasonable and the decor is nice. The Chocolates I took home were 😋. This is a true 💎 in Woodhaven.

I got to stop by Schmidt's Candy Store yesterday for the first time. The owner was very welcoming and courteous. She let me sample some chocolates, and they were really good. So, I bought an assortment of various handmade chocolates. Tips: They are closing for the summer on May 28 (or earlier if chocolate runs out), and reopening in Semtember.

Great, handmade chocolates, definitely worth a visit. I miss when NYC had more places like this. In particular, the coconut royale chocolate was delicious.

Entering this place it smelled soooo delicious and great. I wanted to try everything and I did and it was amazing. The chocolate is so rich and very good. Chocolate pretzels were the best. Graham cracker chocolate was amazing. Definitely will go back.customer service is a 10/10.

As soon as you walk in, you immediately take in the smell of all of the candy and homemade chocolate. They have a huge selection of milk&dark chocolates/chocolate covered things. I would definitely recommend visiting here if you ever get the chance.

Amazing find. The owner was so great and passionate about her trade. At first glance the place was a little daunting but after trying a few samples i realized this was the real deal. Everything was fresh and homemade. A very cool place clearly specializing in chocolates.

To add to what everyone else on here has already said, the customer service here is top notch. Walk in and you’ll be happy you did. Also, I’ll add, the chocolate is legitimately excellent - this place is not just a nostalgic trip, it’s high quality for fair prices.

I visited this store a couple of weekends ago, loved it! while the decor inside it's simple, vintage, presentation for the chocolates can use a little bit of improvement; however the taste is really good. Best presented products I noticed where the chocolate truffles! which I loved! The lady who was there that day was very nice and welcoming! She let me try a few before purchasing, told me a little bit about the history of the store, the guy who bought it and how it's changed to this day. Overall a great experience and I'm happy to support small family businesses in the neighborhood!

I love old NYC establishments like this. I got a mix of dark chocolates, and the ones I've tried so far are great. The woman who helped me was so nice, and she threw in an extra one she thought I'd like after I paid. She also let me know that they are closed in the summer in part because the heat and humidity makes it hard for them to work with their ingredients. That makes me feel like they are a pretty legit chocolate making operation.

This place will have feeling like a kid in a candy shop. The smell of chocolate when you first walk in is intoxicating and inviting. There's so many handmade chocolates and gift boxes to choose from. They even have cute stocking stuffer treats for Christmas! The girl who helped us out was kind and made us a 1/2 lb. assortment of popular milk and dark chocolate on the spot. $15 is a total steal for delicious handmade chocolate. We are definitely coming back and trying out more stuff!

I have been going to Schmidts since I was a little girl. This is a one of a kind shop. Margie Schmidt is the granddaughter from 3 generations of family. The chocolate is amazing, because it's made from love. As an adult I frequent there often. I buy all my chocolate gifts at schmidts. Once you walk in that door, if the smell of the delicious chocolate doesn't get you, Margie the owner will. She is kind and generous. If you want a day to truly remember, visit Margie at Schmidts, you will not be disappointed. A little tip, try the Dark Cherries. Chocolate Graham crackers, I could go on and on. When you walk into Schmidt's it's like going back in time and not many places like this stand in these days. The way the displays, counters, flooring, & store front is it still has that old vintage look to it you have to love how they made things back then & not many places like this make homemade chocolates and candies like Schmidt's does. I have been coming here for many years. the owners are really nice people and very helpful when trying to choose from the many options of homemade chocolates they have. Schmidt's has some of the best milk and dark chocolates out there and nothing cant beat homemade. they have sugar free options, chocolate covered pretzels, chocolate covered caramels, chocolate covered coconut, chocolate covered almonds just to name a few. but hands down they have some of the best chocolates. my favorites are the fruit jelly candies, cherry and pineapple. raspberry jelly dark chocolates, chocolate covered pretzels and milk chocolate covered pecans. they are bit pricey and charge by the pound but that shouldn't matter its the experience of coming into this place. I wish they had some seating or made a little coffee/ hot chocolate bar or maybe they can come up with some homemade sundaes now that would be a awesome for this place to carry on for many years to come. Schmidt's is definitely a staple in queens and in new York itself. the place is easy to get to by public transportation, you can take the j or z trains to Woodhaven train stop and the shop is off of Jamaica avenue and 95th street or you can take the q11 or q53 buses and stop at Woodhaven Blvd. & Jamaica avenue and walk 1 block.

Best CHOCOLATE EVER. It's worth the trip! This chocolate shop has been here for a long time in Woodhaven and it is the best! No other store bought chocolate or chocolate shop can beat this place.

Just incredible old timey chocolate like almost homemade. Very nice family owned and run.

This place sure has a lot of charm. You can tell this place has been around for some time as soon as you walk in e.g. the smell, floor tiles and display cases. Came in after they were featured on Yelp not that long ago. We were greeted with a sample of chocolate covered graham crackers as soon as we walked in. Jeez Louise it was like heaven. A lot of choices, but we settled on dark chocolate covered oreos, almonds and some jelly candy. These were all really good I must say. So much better than the stuff you find sitting on a candy shelf for who knows how long. I do wish the chocolate's were presented neatly instead of stacked on top of each other.

Walking into this place is like walking back in time. So cute. So authentic. So many options. Sugar free options too. We got free samples offered to us. The owner was so nice and informative. It was so adorable that we walked in while she was making chocolate and she had spots of it all over her. So fun. She takes pride in the shop that she explained has been in her family since the 1920s!! FYI They close when the heat rises for the summer. The candy can't take it.

Excellent !! Best chocolate you'll ever taste BY FAR!! Almost everything is made by hand by Margie the owner and let me tell you something if you're in the area or even if you have to travel far to get there THE CHOCOLATE IS AMAZING !! I've read some of the reviews that say the customer service isn't good and I just have to put that to bed because this place maybe not be all "kiss your a**" (sorry) friendly but hey it's NEW YORK go in tell them what you want and leave with the best chocolate in the world! If I haven't convinced you yet well listen up I moved to Texas and I still call up Schmidt's to mail me some chocolate and this place never fails me ! THE BEST OF THE BEST!!

This place is a classic gem. I hope it's there forever. I The candy is delicious & the atmosphere is charming. Places come & go. This place is a local landmark.

Schmidt's is by far my favorite place for mouthwatering dark chocolates! My favorites are the coconut and caramels, but I usually grab a few pieces of different varieties to sample as well. Family-owned and very friendly inside, but I wish they were open on Sunday...That'd make it a bit easier to travel here for my fix!

Five stars has to be awarded to this cute, storied, historical confectionary. The pleasure and delight was all mine as I glared at the little chocolate covered objects of my affections. I'm not ordinarily super nostalgic, but I morphed into a seven year old little boy, taking in all of the sweet smells and coco euphoria behind the turn of the century, greenish glass plates. Everything's homemade, handmade from scratch. No machines involved. No where can you find such a varied assortment of fruit, nut and other fillings. No other chocolate has such a taste consistency I've not found anywhere else. Time honored, been there eighty years, not going anywhere, not another place like it at all. It's that good.

How have I not reviewed my favorite chocolatier?!? Everything here is delightful and made from hand. Margie seems to know and remember everyone and what their favorite candy is. I'm partial to the fruit jellies especially raspberry and to anything with marshmallow or maple. I like to pick up boxes for gifts and parties, always getting something customized for home. Schmidt's feels like a delicious throwback to another era.

Great old time staple in this neighborhood. There was so much to choose from. My problem was that there was no real line. I stood behind another couple being helped and thought I was next. It wasn't the case , there are two counters here and 2 women were calling out customers names of what they wanted??? Not cool ... I came here after reading an article in newsday, I was intrigued to come here. Yes the chocolate was delicious, it was expensive but not as expensive in other homemade shops. Chocolate was 17 dollars a pound. I have paid 34 dollars a pound elsewhere. Customer service was a huge letdown. Maybe it was just that day ? If I'm in the neighborhood I'll drop by and give another shot , but I won't go out of my way .

New York Hometown Classic! When I saw this mentioned on the show 9.99, I figured I need to make it over there before their summer break. It took a little while, but, boy, am I ever glad I did! The shop owner, busy as she was, was an incredibly lovely person. But this shop doesn't get 5 stars for the nice owner, or the achingly quaint/nostalgic vibe you get from the shop itself (though that alone could knock your socks off - Not fancy, but gorgeous). This is a 5 star shop because their chocolate is sooo freaking awesome!!!! I'm normally not a fan of dark chocolate, but the taste I had here was rich, deeply flavorful, yet without the bitterness I've come to associate with dark chocolate. The friend I went with also said she has never tasted better dark chocolate, and that's her favorite kind. She immediately bought several other chocolates: chocolate covered cookies, pretzels, and a few other things as well. It went pretty quickly! My favorite kind of chocolate is milk chocolate covered caramel. I've never been picky about it. It's a common enough candy/candy bar combination for sure, but Schmidt's is hands down the best milk chocolate covered caramel I have ever - EVER - had. The chocolate wasn't too sweet and the caramel was sublime.... So, this place is dangerously good. The only thing that could make the experience here sheer perfection is if the shop were able to fit a little seating area for hot chocolate or something like that. It is a place you'll want to stay and enjoy as long as possible.

I've been a customer for a few years and someday I hope to walk in the door but until that time comes Margie makes and sends out my order with obvious thought and care! These are superior hand made chocolates! The chocolate marshmallow is my perfect chocolate!

I used to get my kids their Easter candy her bc of the variety of molds and the chocolate is delish. I went this year for my grandchildren. I got a bunny with a baby carriage, a cross, a baseball mitt and some typical bunnies. I knew that I would not be able to get my grandson a bunny bc he is allergic to tree nuts. The woman offered to make him one up special with virgin chocolate and a fresh mold. She even gave me the ingredients. How nice!

Schmidt's has been in the neighborhood for 85 years. This place is older than old and Schmidt's is a candy store. I had a chance to speak with the owner extraordinaire and maker of these sweet treats. She is friendly, absolutely funny with a great sense of humor and easy to talk to and the shop has been in her family since her grandfather acquired it since the depression. This is a family own business and the chocolates are handmade. Nothing mass produced or machine produced, not here, everything is made from a time gone by where handmade items rule. No two pieces look alike and you can see and appreciate that this was truly made with heart and a lot of hard work. Don't come here looking for artisanal perfection, you won't find that here. Things here are down to earth and what your local, neighborhood candy shop would look like after 85 years. Times have made it tough for mom and pop stores to survive. Can Schmidt's endure? With the recession, and hard times that retailers face, business hasn't always been so good now. But I truly hope Schmidt's continues for many more generations as we are losing so many small businesses that bring uniqueness and character to a neighborhood. Come and visit and buy some goodies from Schmidt's. There is everything from malted chocolate balls in dark or milk chocolate, sugarless chocolates and a large selection of only milk or dark chocolates with various, nuts, fruits and creams, jellies and marshmallows for $14.95 a lb. There is peanut brittle, seasonal items such as turkey shaped chocolates in small to large sizes, non pareils, fall leaf shaped chocolates, and truffles. I spied chocolate coated pretzel rods in dark and milk chocolate at a very reasonable 2 for $3. Owner also gave some samples, I had some milk chocolate with peanuts, and some harvest chocolate coated with orange, yellow, brown and white round candy sprinkles. There are also candies in jars like gummy bears, jelly beans, licorice jelly beans, candy corn, pumpkin butter cream, jelly pumpkins, jelly fruit rings, and rock candy on a stick. I had some chocolate covered marshmallows and a jelly marshmallow bar and grab a medium turkey shaped chocolate to go. There is a plaque that hangs when you first come in at the front of one of the counters it reads "Chocolate is the answer, I don't care what the question is!" Right answer! Stop by this neighborhood confectionery. You can take the J train all the way to Woodhaven Blvd. If you are in Queens, take Q11, Q21 or Q53 that runs along Woodhaven Boulevard to Jamaica Avenue.

Why did I have to find this place? I walked by one time a couple of months back and thought 'oh how quaint.' This past Friday, I had reason to darken their doorway and my life will never be the same again. I tried the Milk Chocolate covered cherries. Spectacular Milk Chocolate covered marzipan. Stupendous Milk Chocolate coconut supremes. Exemplary I was eyeing up the cases the whole time because I appreciate some good chocolate and everything looked good. I had to stop at 3 varieties, otherwise it would have been ugly. All of their stuff is made fresh on premesis and variety galore! Not a pair of tongs and self service bin to be seen which is a nice thing. Unfortunately, I understand that I will be going there again. I understand that I will be on a first name basis with the proprietor of this establishment. I'm just going to accept this.

This shop is a favorite of my family. Every special occasion we have includes a bit of Schmidt's. It is truly a luxury to have handmade chocolates these days, and Schmidt's is some of the best you can find in NYC. Support small businesses and buy Schmidt's!

Grew up in Woodhaven and this classic store brings back memories. My sister moved to SC in 2016 and I sent her some of her favorites to help unpack. They barely lasted a day since they were so good. Then sent her some Easter Bunnies and Crosses and again the chocolates were devoured. Great dealing with owner in getting them shipped. Look forward to visiting Store, next time I'm back in NYC. When you walk in the door and the smell first hits you, you know you are going to be in for a special treat. Handmade chocolates and candies from recipes that have been handed down for generations. The owner is always on site and is super friendly and willing to tell you the history of her store and show you all the old molds that they used to make candies since the 1920's. She also pushes samples on you while you are making your selections allowing you to try different flavors and candies. This is the kind of place that just doesn't exist anymore. Go get your candy fix here! p.s. My recommendations are the Raspberry Cremes, Vanilla Cremes, Salted Caramels, Chocolate Covered Graham Crackers and chocolate covered Cashews.

I recently discovered and placed my first order with Schmidt's, while creating a "made in Queens" themed holiday gift for a family member. Although my order was shipped promptly, it somehow got lost in the mail and never made it to me. Margie went above and beyond for me, offering to replace the lost package (I was only hoping for a tracking number, so I could attempt to track down the original at my post office) and even ship it to the address where I was staying over the holidays, so I still had my candy in time to include it in my gift! As a fellow NYC small business owner, it made me happy to see others going the extra mile for their customers. Oh, and the candy is delicious, too!!

I've wanted to come here for years! Always on the look out for old school shops that are still mom and pop and have stood the test of time. How sad this was! The shell of the shop exists, with the beautiful old wood and glass display cases....but now they are filled with strange boards of chocolate hap-hazzardly put out to show. Nothing looks appetizing and almost seems scary. So sorry to see this glorious chocolate shop in this sad state.

This is a great step back in time. Its completely HANDMADE chocolate candy. that means each piece is hand dippped - no machines! all fresh ingredients. HOMEMADE marshmallows and jelly fillings. Marge Schmidt the shops owner and candy maker is a lovely humorous woman who knows her sweets! This is the only place you can get homemade handmade candy canes at christmas. She Also still makes homemade hard candies in the old european flavors ,cinnamon,honey.clove.plus lemon drop,peppermints and old fashion ribbon candy! The shop is worth stopping at and they also have a website and will ship everywhere. get a sweet treat and support a real artisan confectioner! I drop in at least once a week.

I have been coming here for over 35 years....it was easier when I lived locally...but for 20 plus years I travel in from Long island. Their chocolates are the BESTEST and always have been...........what can you say except LONG LIVE THE SCHMIDT's Family Confectory of Woodhaven

This is a charming, old fashioned, family run candy store that makes its own confections. Most of the Mom & Pop stores in the neighborhood are long gone. Happily, this place has stood the test of time. Hope Margie Schmidt is making candy for a long time to come. A visit here is a true New York experience.

Amazing German chocolate store! Been here since 1927, and just as awesome as ever! Every chocolate treat you can imagine. A real New York treasure. It's mom and pop places like this that have made it this far and what really make New York what it is. I miss the days when the towns were filled with these kind of places, but now we must treasure the few that survive and prove that good business and great product stand the test of time. Awesome candy and chocolate, you couldn't find a better selection anywhere else.

Best chocolate. My wife says and she likes chocolate. But it doesn't stop there what a find. I have been buying there for years. The nicest people. God neighborhood people with good hearts. Margie a great confectioner, great mom and all around nice person. You will never be disappointed and always feel good leaving the store. Knowing that you supported a great effort and also knowing that you have the best candy around.

What a delicious, charming, and wonderful store!! The owner truly appreciates her craft handed down from her grandfather. I love stumbling on places like this. As the previous reviewer says, Schmidt's has been in the neighborhood for decades, and the original owners and confectioners are keeping it in the family. Not only is the history amazing (the original Schmidt family, all 6 kids, grew up in the neighborhood, and some of them actually lived in the apartment above the store for periods of time) but the product is really fantastic! They do great special orders, as well - I've seen their fabulous wedding cake toppers! I can't believe there are only 2 reviews up here for such a great gem.

The beautiful thing about Queens is that we still have places like this. Sure you can get chocolate over in Brooklyn for just 5 times the price, but you'll miss out on the history lesson.

I've tried an array of chocolates from here- a good mixture of both dark and milk chocolates. Although I love my dark chocolate, I'd have to side with the milk chocolate options here. They have every kind of filling, my favorite being coconut. The best part about this place is that the chocolate is made right on site, and because of that reason they close for business during the warmer months.

Me and my husband love Schmidt's Confectionery and Margie! We worked with her to create a 5-piece chocolate favor box for guests at our November 2015 wedding, and they were raving about how wonderful the chocolates were. Margie is great to work with and always kept me laughing. The fun part of our favors was that each box was a different assortment, and since we had a fall wedding, Margie made a leaf-shaped chocolate as one of the pieces for each box! Schmidt's Candies for us is a gem in Queens, and we will recommend the shop to friends and family, whether for a box of the best homemade candies or party favors!

They carry a wide selection of candy and decent prices, but store is dusty and counter people arent very welcoming.

I've been coming to this place as long as I remember. I lived in Queens 20 years ago, but even after I moved to Brooklyn, I would take the painful congested trip on the Belt Parkway to get to this place for Christmas gifts for family, my daughter's teacher and my fellow co-workers. Such friendly service! The variety is great and the taste, heavenly! A jewel in Queens!

The milk chocolate covered ANYTHING I love. When you walk in you're hit by a wave of chocolate smell, it's amazing. They sell in small boxes or by the pound, I can't believe I never stepped foot in here until now.

schmidts really gives you a taste of what it was like to live in woodhaven a few decades ago. a great mom and pop kinda place that's been here since 1927. they have a great selection of chocolate. chocolate with fruit in it, dark chocolate, coconut, marshmallow, chocolate with nuts, and rock candy. a lot more but that's all i can think of in the summer, when schmidts is sadly closed. i guess thats reasonable since they can't make (yes the chocolate is made right in the store!) chocolate in the hot summer, but it's still a downer.

I don't think, I never need to go to any other candy store now. Because i found one awesome. This is my first online review about anything and I am so excited to write it. Hmmmm....Let me keep it short. This store is amazingly lovely. I was looking for something unusual, eggless, homemade sugarfree chocolates. And this store had it all. I found exactly what I was looking for and the ladies here truely like my grandma, So sweet, generous and loving. I didnt only buy chocolates for myself, but also for my parents, my brother and my love which m gonna send India and when I told them, they wrapped it with all the love and care. Thank you Schmidt'!

The first time I walked into Schmidt's Chocolates I had a Deja Vu rush - I was sure I had been here before. In fact, I had a lingering memory of just such a candy store (perhaps this very one!) way back in the 1950's - I must have been 4 or 5 years old. The look of the original oak and glass display cases,, the decades-infused smell of chocolate, the joy of anticipation that I was going to get a treat all came back to me and hit me like a ton of peacan clusters. The overall friendliness and laughter that insued from meeting Margie Schmidt and her wonderful staff just sent me into another time and place that I will be want to experience again in my lifetime. Few places can compare when it comes to terms like "original", "old fashioned" and "authentic". I was like a kid (again!) in a candy store! Go there. Now! Tom C.

I love this place! a real old fashioned candy store with home/hand made chocolates. I went there around Easter, they've got the most amazing & unique collection of molds; bunnies in boats, in cars, with tennis rackets, etc. Big ones, little ones, white, milk & dark chocolate -- never seen anything like it....and of course the rest of the candies are killer too.

Sorry to say this, as I have lived most of my life in Richmond Hill and Woodhaven, but Schmidt's was a mess when I went there this past Easter. I decided to try them again after all these years when a friend from Flushing recommended that I go (my family used to buy our holiday candy at Davies which unfortunately closed a number of years ago). Things were in a disarray and some of the candy looked old. The items I purchased were nothing to write home about and the flavored cremes were a real disappointment - the "flavor" was a single swirl through the glob of creme.
