Schmitty's Bar Review - West Hollywood - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Reporting live from Weho’s latest round of bar-switch-a-roos, Schmitty’s is a neighborhood bar operating inside the old GymBar space, now run by the same people as FuBar—which is still closed. Got that? It doesn’t matter. All you need to know is that Schmitty’s is a solid place to grab a drink and hang out on a patio next to a closed down Five Guys. The Irish pub aesthetic is definitely a little cheesy, but no one’s really complaining about that when there’s a four-hour weekday Happy Hour with $5 well cocktails, wine, and beer." - Brant Cox

Busy Friday night. Attentive and kind waitress. Good looking salad bar. Great options for senior specials. Food was simple and good. Would definitely go again

Yelp
Nice restaurant. Good service. Had the hamburger steak breakfast. Made to order. They will not make eggs sunny side up do the health reasons.

Yelp
Enjoyed a late breakfast- good food at a reasonable price. Not far off hi-way 90. Service was quick.

Yelp
Service was horrible. it was not busy, maybe six to eight tables. with three servers. Food was delivered. We ordered another drink and server never came back with drinks or to check on the food. No butter or sour cream for one potato. one potato was cold. No all you can eat shrimp. Do not recommend!!

Yelp
I was standing waiting for someone to at least say hello or we will be right with you. I mean, there was a sign that said Please wait to be seated. I must have made eye contact with every employee there and not one acknowledged me. Guess if they don't know you, you are left standing there. Only 2 stars because the place looks nice and inviting but NOONE verbally said anything to me. I was the only one standing there. Left after 4 minutes of standing. I would have waited if someone just said hello. The didn't look terribly busy and I counted 7 workers doing something but not one could say hello. Maybe strangers will have better luck

Yelp
First impressions not great. Was stuck in a corner and basically forgotten for half the night. Order for our drinks took about 20 minutes. Waited 45 minutes total before our drinks came. Then waited longer before they even came back for our orders. Food wasn't great at all. Cold for some meals and our food arrived before others around us. There was least 4 other groups with us who were there longer.Otherwise i enjoyed walking into the place and seeing a mini replica of a street with figures. Hence why it would get a 1 other then the fact i cant give a 0.

Yelp
I am ready to just stay home anytime I want a good meal. Our first visit and we tried a variety of items. This is not toast. It is warm bread. Same with fries that are warmed and not crisp. Can't explain exactly what was wrong with the pancake but very bland. The patty melt was ok. Meat shorted on sandwich but it was ok

Yelp
I'd rate this place as a 5 plus . Salad bar was fresh , clean and well stocked . My meal was very tasty and hot . Waitress knew their stuff and did a great job . Plus even with masks not hard on the eyes . I will be eating their again when I'm in town .

Yelp
We frequently visit The Ranch and our typical meal selection is the all you can eat fish dinner. Today however we had three extra guests and a few different meal choices. Our waitress was extremely friendly and attentive and kept our drinks full. The salad bar was fresh and the choices plentiful. All 7 of us cleaned our plates and were happily full when we left. If you're just passing by on the Interstate and the typical fast food (Perkins included) choices at the bottom of the ramp don't appeal to you, take the mile drive south and get yourself a solid meal at the Ranch!

Yelp
Order online or call it in, pick it up, run home and you have your meal ready. How easy is that! Our favorite is the walleye; both the sandwich and the dinner. It is fabulous! So yummy! Crispy on the outside, soft and flaky on the inside; and the sandwich is huge! But you will want to go back another time for another one! We also like the breakfasts and the hot sandwiches. And the salad bar! It's all so good!

Yelp
Nice salad bar. The turkey dinner was served with chopped turkey, rather than slices, and the stuffing was a slice, not a dollop. Odd. Not very busy for a Sunday night at dinner time. Hmmmm.....

Yelp
The crispy chicken salad was underwhelming. I picked several pieces of expired lettuce out of this lackluster salad. My husband had the walleye and said that it was excellent.

Yelp
Today was takeout Tuesday and I was hungry for chicken. Now I've eaten chicken here before and it was good. Tonight however it was out of this world good. Not sure what actually changed but I can't wait to eat the leftovers. Thanks Ranch.

Yelp
Wow, upper Midwest comfort food at its best. The salad bar had braunschweiger and pickled herring. Do it!

Yelp
One time here has made up my mind to never come back. Wait staff was good but the food mediocre. Had a Ruben sandwich plus salad bar. Salad bar is about average but the Ruben was not. Whatever cheese they put on it tasted like a grilled cheese sandwich with the block processed fake cheese. The sliced corned beef was from a package of processed meat. Total cost with one small glass of ice tea $17.43. Way too much for too little.

Yelp
Stopped in for a late lunch/early dinner and ordered a filet, baked potato and mushrooms. Very disappointed. Microwaved potato, reheated, dried out mushrooms and a less than average steak. Poor service. Contaminated water. The local reservoir had algal bloom. Not recommend

Yelp
Terrible. We went on a Saturday over the lunch hour. Our server was new and didn't know the menu at all when questioned about it (I usually will give someone the benefit of the doubt if they're learning, but this girl was simply unapologetically ditzy). The whole place just seemed like it needed a thorough cleaning, from the dust on the light fixtures and fake silk greenery to carpets with crumbs needing to be swept. Gross. The decor was kitschy clutter from the 80s and looked as if it hadn't been cleaned since then either. The cityscape in the entry was interesting, but was dusty and seem end overshadowed by all the clutter around it. If that's what this restaurant is known for, they're certainly not making the most of it. Our food wasn't hot at all when it arrived, and very bland. My $12 salmon was barely larger than a deck of cards. What a rip-off!! The soup from the salad bar was room temperature, pasta salads were crusted over, and who knows how long things had been sitting out and growing bacteria. Eww. The only reason I'm giving it a two instead of a one is the my father-in-law seemed to enjoy his omelet. This place would be alright for a breakfast menu, maybe. After all, eggs are hard to screw up. Seniors probably like it because its bland... Glorified nursing home food. I personally hope to never go back.

Yelp
We arrived at 7:45 and they had already broke down the salad bar which is offered with most meals. Very disappointing. This is a casual diner. Comfort food at its best. Our meals were tasty. The restaurant was clean and staff friendly.

Yelp
Very happy with my meal, the portions were very generous, the filet was tender and delicious, definately worth the short sidetrip off the interstate.

Yelp
I am satisfied ^^// Service is excellent. Decor is acceptable. Portions are generous. Nicely spiced and prepared cuisine. A short detour off 90 is well worth it.

Yelp
Diner fair that is very well done. Family atmosphere. Has a salad/soup bar in the evenings. Friendly service. Good portions for the price. Overall very good for it's restaurant segment.

Yelp
My husband and I happened upon this place while on a road trip. The servers were very friendly, the food was tasty, and the salad bar was excellent and included some items I've not seen many places. I definitely want to go back the next time we go through the area.
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped here for dinner on family roadtrip. Service was friendly and very fast. Food was good - I liked the turkey burger a lot! Too bad the first person to review gave it such a negative review for not having a mile-long salad bar, I really think this restaurant is good for an off-the-interstate stop.
google avatar

Megan M.

Yelp
VERY disappointing! They advertise 40 items on the salad bar or something similar on their signs and it seems like half the items are dressings. Soups are bland and lack seasonings. Could hear the staff complaining about management the whole time I was there which explains no refills and incredibly slow service. Save yourself the disappointment and go somewhere else.

Yelp
Don't be fooled by the billboards advertising this place's salad bar. All the vegetables were soaking in water and none of the ingredients tasted fresh. The chicken noodle soup has mushy noodles and no flavor. The staff was friendly but the food was just not good. The other dishes looked better than the soup and salad.

Yelp
We were in the Fairmont area not all that long ago staying at a local motel. The person working the front desk there recommended this restaurant and said that the food was good. He was close. The food was great! Unlike a lot of places on our recent trip, the food was not bland. It had basic flavor but it was right on. The prices were reasonable to us and it was good enough that we went back the next morning for breakfast. My only issue was that breakfast was not quite as good as dinner was. We sure were happy that this place was recommended to us as we were just passing through and didn't know anything about the area.

Yelp
Not what we expected. They advertise a 40 item salad bar which makes it sound like a buffet. There are a handful of cold salads and otherwise just the basics...lettuce, salad dressing, jell o, etc. Meals were overpriced and bland. I ordered a patty melt and it came on rye bread instead of sourdough as advertised. Staff was friendly enough but took probably 10 minutes for our server to come after we were seated. We drove 40 miles due to their radio ads and feel let down.

Yelp
I've been to the Ranch several times as I've been passing through the area. The salad bar is one of the reasons I keep coming back - lots of variety and I'm a big fan of the herring which a lot of salad bars don't have. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone who likes excellent service, fabulous food, interesting art work, and great atmosphere. Whether it's for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or just a snack, you'll be back for more!

Yelp
Met family here for a noon weekday meal. We needed a table for a party of five. Our arrival was right at the noon rush hour. There was also a large meeting going on in the facility so a table was not immediately available. We had a short wait for a table to open up, but it was nothing serious. The staff was friendly and did their best to get us seated as soon as possible, all service at our table was efficient and timely. A good menu with many options to choose from. All the meals ordered and served at our table were good and the food portions were generous for the prices charged. Restrooms were also clean. Very friendly staff. Only draw back is that they are located a short drive away from the Interstate, but it is well worth the short drive to dine at The Ranch. We will definitely return in the future. As a side note for those who enjoy unique history while traveling and visiting communities along your travel route The Ranch offers a very interesting art viewing. In 1983 an addition was added to the restaurant along with the famous Michael Garman Cityscape. The Garman wall of art was originally located in the south dining room. Because some of the guests were unable to view the Cityscape, an addition was added and the wall was moved to the entrance area in September of 1987. It's a must see if you enjoy art and local history.
