Los Angeles’s Best Queer Bars Celebrate Pride All Year Long | Eater LA

"Schmitty’s Bar has a fantastic layout where the interior has a floor-to-ceiling window that allows those sitting at the bar to see Santa Monica Boulevard, a piano where many of Los Angeles’s talented folks in music might offer a serenade, and a spacious patio that’s got all the requirements for people watching, cocktailing, watching local sports, or anything else that might be underway like a DJ spinning festive, danceable tracks." - Rebecca Roland

A Definitive Ranking Of Literally Every West Hollywood Gay Bar

"Schmitty’s is a neighborhood bar operating inside the old GymBar space, now run by the same people as FuBar—which is still closed post-pandemic. Got that? It doesn’t matter. All you need to know is that Schmitty’s is a good place to grab a drink and hang out on a spacious patio next to a closed-down Five Guys. The Irish pub aesthetic is definitely a little cheesy, but no one’s complaining about that when there’s a Monday through Saturday Happy Hour with discounted well cocktails, wine, and beer." - brant cox

The 16 Best Bars in West Hollywood

"Reporting live from Weho’s latest round of bar-switch-a-roos, Schmitty’s is a neighborhood bar operating inside the old GymBar space, now run by the same people as FuBar—which is still closed. Got that? It doesn’t matter. All you need to know is that Schmitty’s is a solid place to grab a drink and hang out on a festive, string-lit patio next to a closed-down Five Guys. The Irish pub aesthetic is cheesy, sure, but no one’s really complaining about that when there’s a four-hour weekday Happy Hour. And a five-hour one on Fridays. " - brant cox

I must say, I used to love coming here especially on Tuesdays when Miesha’s working and they have karaoke so it’s fun and she makes the best drinks. Recently my group of friends switched to Piano Karaoke and the evening bartender gives you more ice than the actual drink and it’s ridiculous. When he made my first drink it was full of ice and charged 15.00 for it. Then I go back for another and said can you please use less ice and he literally serves me the same amount of drink with less ice and my cup was half full this time. Just because I said less ice doesn’t mean I want less of a drink. This is WEHO. Drinks are already expensive and why the need to be catty or offended at my request and my frustration didn’t only lie there. I tested him and sent a friend in to get the same drink and it was full and with a perfect amount of ice for him. To say I’m displeased is an understatement. No other establishment in WEHO does this so I don’t understand why he feels the need to act this way towards certain clients at the bar. Not only did I feel this way, but the rest of the group that I was with about how he made and poured drinks for all of us. Lord knows how other patrons felt but now I don’t want to go back if he’s working the bar. Even had the audacity of asking my friend who he poured a regular drink to about why his friends weren’t tipping him. He should know why.

Instagram: @AllAmericanJock $17 for an espresso martini is absolutely diabolical. Drink prices in West Hollywood are insane. But this is a cool, cozy spot, love the dim, warm lighting. The custom cocktails are good and the bartenders are nice.

I had one of the worst dining experiences at this establishment. From the moment I walked in, it was clear that cleanliness and customer service were not priorities. The place was filthy, with dirty tables and an overall unkempt appearance. The service was absolutely terrible—slow, inattentive, and unprofessional. It felt like the staff had no interest in taking care of their customers. My order took forever to arrive, and when it did, the drinks was poorly made, tasteless, and unappetizing. The drinks? Even worse—either watered down or completely unbalanced. It’s as if no one knew what they were doing behind the bar. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was beyond unacceptable. If you care about good food, clean surroundings, and decent service, I strongly recommend avoiding this place.

I had two beverages about two weeks ago. The first one I remember I was excited about but it ended up being watered down and bland. The second one sounded interesting, a frozen aperol spritz of sorts. I loved taking the first sips, you got the experience of sweetness without it being too sweet. Just be mindful of the aperol aftertaste. The vibe is still figuring itself out. It was 80s music, I believe, and a decent DJ. Nice patio area with plenty of heaters, the inside is spacious. It feels like they’re expecting to fill it up with more people as there wasn’t much seating inside and the music was loud, but it’d be nice to sit inside. There’s a piano and I’m curious on future events around it.

Google
I found this hidden gem in search of a Grand Ma Mule🥃 if you know, you know. Nobody could fix it correctly around the area. The bartender at Schmitty’s made it perfect and the welcoming energy with the free shot on top of the amazing sound of the music playing in the background 🎼🎵🎶It’s return-worthy. Clif ♉

Well, I have been in this bar many times. Today, I came and I ordered the same drink the old fashion, the two first drink I was charged for 13 dollars and the drink was very properly done. Around by 8:30 Pm I approach to the bar and request the same drink. Well the sweet surprise was another bartender and he just add ice to the bourbon… and asked me for $15 for the drink.! Really! Are you seriously!!!! I’m not Paty for your face I came for a nice drink! And good time ! So… having not more options I pay stupid “new” price! Very disappointed! So .. guys! Think about it before to come over to this place! Be ready to be charge extra for the “cuties ones”…. Sucks!

Amazing place and service! I really recommend going there. A vodka and soda drink is around $12.

Yelp
Happy hour on a Saturday? Count me in! Featuring a $5 rotating IPA on tap from 3pm - 7pm, Schmitty's WeHo did not disappoint. While we only stayed for one drink, we had a memorable time. The ambiance is top notch, and the service was quick and efficient. I would not hesitate to come back next time I'm in the area.

Yelp
My go-to spot in Weho for when I want to go out but I'm not quite in the mood to go deaf from the speakers or stand and hold a plastic cup of poorly mixed well liquor the whole night. Schmitty's appeal is that it's far cozier and more intimate than some of the other gay bars further down Santa Monica. Plus, they get bonus points for a decent cocktail menu and a few tasty bites. The spot is bright and colorful with a clear appreciation for camp and nostalgia. What I love most about Schmitty's is the music. Throwback after throwback! Staff is also friendly and attentive. Overall, I've always had a nice experience here and will continue to come back again!

Michael D.

Yelp
Like this place. Nice vibe. Great atmosphere. Indoor and outdoor space is inviting. Drinks are good. Great variety and cocktail menu My only wish is that the bartenders were more attentive and friendly. They practically ignore people (me) sitting at the bar. I've been here about a dozen times. Every time I sit at the bar I get second class service to the customers waking up to the bar. Plus the bar backs do not even look you in the eye and offer to at least give you a glass of water let alone say hello. Need to do better at bar service Female with short blond hair is not friendly or attentive at all. Three last visits is more concerned with closing out her checks on the pos then turning around to wait on guests. If you can fix this (which is easy to do !!) you will be five stars

Yelp
Good happy hour. Though a little deceptive on what the happy hour specials are. Make sure you clarify. Bartenders were amazing and make great drinks. I love the vibe here. It's a good time.

Yelp
I finally had a chance to return to Schmitty's and my second experience was as good as the first. They have Happy Hour Mon - Sat starting when they open until 8 p.m. The cocktails are tasty and the non HH drinks are reasonably priced. The bartenders were friendly and efficient. The décor is festive, outdoor patio is whimsical, and the music was fantastic - we were shaking our groove thang. Most of all, the atmosphere was welcoming. Schmitty's is more like a friendly neighborhood hang. It's not pretentious or intimidating. My friends and I found a new spot and set a date to come back for Sunday Funday!

Yelp
As anyone in WeHo with a pulse knows, there are quite a few bars to choose from to wet one's whistle on the percolating stretch of Santa Monica Boulevard between Robertson and La Cienega Boulevards. Jamie W. and I were strolling the rowdy street on Pride weekend dodging people pouring in and out of these establishments with great regularity. Heading eastward, we decided to stop at the last gay watering hole on the left. We didn't realize Schmitty's just opened in November because the bar already felt like a comfortable gathering spot rather than a standard pick-up joint. It had more of a Cheers-like Irish pub vibe except there was no Coach, no Woody. Instead, there were a couple of minimally clad bartenders who were no strangers to the gym. Now just because they had bodies like Greek gods didn't mean they couldn't mix a cocktail. We had a couple of Happy Hour specials, the $10 Mai Tai, and they had a welcome kick along with the right sweetness (photo: https://bit.ly/430JXp9). Most of the patrons hung out in the patio section, a tempting idea except you sacrifice a prime view of the bartenders shaking not just their cocktail shakers. I think we had the vapors. COCKTAILS - 4 stars...better than you'd expect from near-naked eye candy AMBIANCE - 4 stars...surprisingly not clubby, more chummy and familiar SERVICE - 4.5 stars...gee, the bartenders were friendly...am I blushing? TOTAL - 4 stars... a nice, social addition to the block RELATED - Exploring LA? Here's a collection of places I've visited and reviewed: http://bit.ly/2TWT63v

Yelp
My friend, Jarod, introduced me to Schmitty's for the first time on Wednesday night, 4/24, and I loved it! It was far enough away from all the other clubs and bars in WeHo, so it had a more intimate feel to it. I enjoyed the ambiance of the place and the over-all layout. It was decorated nicely and had a cozy feeling to it. Plus, the bartender that night was very nice and super cute, and he made my Midori Sour perfectly! And that evening was piano bar night. A wonderful gal was "tickling the ivories" and singing, along with many others. Mostly musical numbers, for which I loved. It was a great experience and I would definitely come back again. Thanks, Jarod, I'm happy you recommended this place! :)

Yelp
I love the vibe, the music, the cocktails, and the crowd at Schmitty's! Forgot to take photos of our cocktails, but would recommend the slushie of the day.

Yelp
Loads of fun on piano bar nights; great crowd, very welcoming, rock-solid bar staff, convenient parking. Good vibe all around.

Alyssa H.

Yelp
The service last night was horrible. The ambiance was nice and the dj was on point but the service was trash and the lady at the bar was rude. She was not having a good night and it carried through the whole team on the floor. Something needs to change me and my friends will come back when the service gets better .

Yelp
Great atmosphere, friendly bartenders good drinks. Seems like a good friends to meet We are not locals so didn't meet any of patrons.

Yelp
Great indoor/outdoor ambience. Cool weekly drink specials. Awesome karaoke and live piano nights. Cool spot!!

Yelp
It's getting there, hopefully. $25 for a whiskey n soda when the glass is sticky isn't a good start. Decor is nice. Bar could use a good wood makeover. Hot bartenders won't guarantee a regular clientele at those prices. Happy hour is good. Looking forward to new wine choices.

Yelp
Was there on July 3rd as a long time customer, just went out with my friend for a drink and to have some fun. Feels like the bar staff was absolutely miserable that night. Took forever to get drinks and was just met with a bad attitude all around which is a shame because I love this space so much.

Yelp
The bar can be fun but they have the WORST staff ever. The lesbian lady...horrible and rude. The guys...their IQ is probably...just go to OR bar...

Eric B.

Yelp
First time here. Super cool, friendly & attractive bat tenders. Eric has the biggest best smile. Place is festive & feels 1/2 in 1/2 out. All of u must pop in for a look see & a libation.

Yelp
Love the new bar and the inviting atmosphere. I want to thank Jay for so many years of great experiences at his clubs and for being a person who always made me smile. It is a shame you don't have a bar in Atlanta. Congratulations and I hope Schmitty's Weho is a huge success!!

Yelp
It's great they had happy hour even on a Saturday until 8pm. Many other places just have weekday happy hour. I liked the IPA they have on tap and it's a nice space both inside and out. A nice upgrade in style from the old Gym Bar. They had the patio heat lamps on without needing to request them to turn them on and the outdoor tables have a protective tarp cover from the sun and rain. I also like that they have 2 private bathrooms.

Yelp
This place is awesome. It's kitschy, fun, they have board games, wigs to put on, and Polaroids. Big outdoor patio. It's clean, it's fun, it's cute- they have penis shot glasses... good music- wasn't too loud. I love it ! Jarrett was our bartender & he's cute, fun, friendly and makes great drinks ! Definitely going back.

Yelp
Visited Schmitty's WeHo based on Yelp reviews as we were in the area looking for a bar to stop for some drinks before we went to dinner. We were not disappointed. We walked in and were immediately welcomed. I was impressed by the friendliness of the other guests; we wanted to sit at the bar, but there weren't enough spots, so two women offered to move one seat down each so my husband and I could sit at the bar together. Very polite to say the least. The vibe was very laid back with a predominantly little older crowd (late 30's on up???) this time of late afternoon/early evening with people meeting up after work, a small birthday gathering, a few people by themselves. The backbar was huge, with a good variety of liquors, beers on tap, some wines, a cocktail menu, the daily special cocktail of the day and light eats. A small bowl of pretzels and other crunchy things were set in front of you when you ordered. There is a nice patio area with tables that overlooks Santa Monica Blvd. that many people seemed to gravitate to. Music was good with a nice variety. Two all gender restrooms were clean, a plus for me. On street parking was available this time of day, although you had to hunt for it, as it is always the case in the city. As we were leaving we noticed that a security guard was now seated outside the front door, as the place was starting to get more crowded the later it got. I cannot overlook the highlight and the gems of the evening however: Katie our bartender & Myles, the bar back. Both were extremely friendly, funny and went out of their way to provide the best customer service possible. Myles, in particular, was very personable and Katie knew the products she was selling and would quickly offer up suggestions if she didn't have what you were looking for. Both were amazing at their jobs and are a bonafide asset to the business. In a nutshell, probably the best review I can give is this: we walked in with the notion of having one drink each....we stayed for almost 3 hours!!! I can highly recommend Schmitty's WeHo without a doubt for a great place to grab before dinner drinks. I have no idea the vibe of the place as it gets later, but I'm certain it wouldn't disappoint.

Yelp
Based on the eloquent first review , I'll go as long as they don't play ColdPlay . . I am requesting Kesha though!

Max R.

Yelp
Honestly this is the best gay bar in Weho, especially if Nova is working. It is slightly out of the craziness but still has a good crowd. The DJ is always playing good music and the vibe is the best. Nova always takes care of us and makes sure our experience is perfect. She is amazing, and Schmitty's is definitely the place to be.

Yelp
Love this place! The best neighborhood bar with good music, amazing vibes, and a place to drink and actually talk to people. I make new friends every visit. Five stars!

heidi k.

Yelp
bartender ignored me on a slow day ... i mean, i guess he didn't feel like serving a woman. just now, thursday, 7pm, may 9th, goatee'd fellow. it was so awful that the fellow sitting next to me suggested i head to trunks. then he left, too!

Yelp
Fantastic new bar in WeHo. Lively, lovely and a delight with every visit. High end craft cocktails, joyful staff and top notch ambiance. Perfect for a date night or celebration.
google avatar

Dori G.

Yelp
Super cute cocktail bar with good drinks and ambiance. Indoor/outdoor vibe and dog friendly patio. Not a clubby atmosphere like most bars in WeHo. It's a bar where you can actually sit and chill. Great addition to the neighborhood. Music is not gay enough for me though.... They were playing Coldplay when I was there
google avatar

Yelp
Great drinks, great vibes, and a guarantee good time. I will definitely be coming more often.

Yelp
This place is amazing. Great vibes, cool bar crew, amazing decor and best of all the DRiNKS!!! Not you're typical gay bar! Check it out!

Dustin B.

Yelp
Order a lemon drop shot! When I got the bill they charged the vodka and thenother ingredients separately. When I asked why and if they though this was right the female bartender said absolutely. When on a Monday afternoon is a well shot $10??? Garbage!

Lucas J.

Yelp
My new go to bar in West Hollywood. Away from all the craziness but still close enough to go walk west and turn up. Cozy, good ambiance and a little quirky without the typical weho pretentiousness. Just a really cool bar. Definitely a good spot to meet a Tinder date for a drink.

Matthew B.

Yelp
I want to wish Jay Kremis all of the success that West Hollywood and surrounding areas as well as the world can have. What a great, friendly and wonderful place. You will soak up all.of the great loyal Gold Coast clientele. Bravo!!!

Edward E.

Yelp
calmer than other spots on the strip, Schmitty's WeHo has great cocktail service with a constantly rotating & friendly crowd to watch.
