8 Incredibly Cool Wine Caves to Tour in Napa Valley

"When Jack and Jamie Davies founded their French-inspired sparkling wine house in 1965, they also inherited some of the oldest wine caves in the region. The sparkling wine house boasts 35,000 square feet of caves, including 12,000 square feet hand dug by Chinese laborers in 1862. As you’re touring and learning the painstaking process of making fine sparkling wines, you might notice what looks like cobwebs around the caves; but it’s actually lichen." - Maria C. Hunt

"Although it's a gorgeous property and the sparkling rosé brut is a standout, the best thing about Schramsberg is its rich history. The vineyard still carries the name of Jacob Schram, the German immigrant who bought the vineyard in 1862, and the original Victorian home that he and his wife built when they first bought the property still stands (it was declared a historical monument back in 1957). The vineyard also keeps an excellent record of notable events where their wines were served—every presidential administration since Nixon has served their sparkling wines to official guests."

We had a nice experience at Schramsberg! The tour was both educational and engaging—we learned so much about the history and process of making their wines. Christopher was a fantastic guide, knowledgeable and passionate, which made the experience even more enjoyable. The space itself is very beautiful.

Google
This was our 2nd visit, and we'll likely visit Shramsberg every time we return to Napa. Really great all-around tour and tasting. Our wine educator Jeff was equal parts knowledgeable and humorous, making a sometimes stuffy type of experience feel casual and fun, while still remaining very professional.

Our experience here was truly unforgettable, we cannot recommend the Wine Cave Tour enough!! The staff were extremely knowledgeable about their history, wine varietals and craftsmanship! We booked the Cave Tour with Sparkling & Red Wine Tasting, Tony was our amazing tour guide as well as our wine educator. He did an amazing job walking us through the rich history and their own unique process of making sparkling wine! The Cave Tour here at Schramsberg stood out to us the most during our entire Napa Valley trip, and we left with a sincere appreciation for all the extensive care and labor that goes into each bottle! During our tasting we tried the 2020 Blanc de Noirs Extra Brut, the 2021 Brut Rosé, the 2015 J. Schram Blancs for the Sparkling. In addition to Red Wines from Davies Vineyards: the 2022 Dutton-Hallberg and 2022 Nobles Pinot Noirs as well as the 2021 McGrath Cabernet Sauvignon. All in all we truly had a memorable experience here and we can safely say that the 2015 J. Schram Blancs was the best Sparkling wine we’ve ever tried!! FYI - Please be cautious on the road up to the Tasting room, it’s a one-lane road and can be difficult to see cars coming down. Visited Schramsberg Vineyards at the end of 2024.

My wife and I had an amazing experience at Schramsberg Vineyard! We did the cave tour, followed by a delightful wine and cheese tasting. Christopher was an exceptional guide—he took us through the rich history of the vineyard and shared fascinating insights into the wine-making process. His knowledge wasn’t just limited to Schramsberg’s incredible sparkling wines and cabs; he was also a great resource on wine-making in general. On top of that, he was kind enough to recommend other spots to visit in Napa Valley, which made our trip even better. The wines, the setting, and the hospitality were all top-notch. Highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting the area!

Google
Best sparkling wine (champagne) produced in America hands down, in my opinion. Available at BevMo and TotalWine and restaurants. All sparkling wines made completely via the traditional French méthode champenoise. All bottles hand riddled, cave aged, and naturally carbonated from two fermentations. Several sparkling varieties available including regular and Rose types. Still wines also available. Unique old hand dug caves with natural lichen on the ceilings, just like traditional old wine caves. Great and informative cave tour with lots of detailed information on the production process with tasting of several different varieties at the end. Very romantic trip. Great ambiance! Great champagne quality and taste! Very informative and friendly tour!

Google
We visited for a cave tour and tasting. We were a party of 2 and were paired with others in a group of 10 total. The grounds and cave were interesting to see, but the downside to this experience was all of the tasting was inside the cave with little time in between pours. Felt rushed and less personal given the size of the group. Wines themselves were good, but wish we had more time to enjoy the wines

Google
I would absolutely recommend the cave tour when in the Napa Valley area. The tour has great information on sparkling wines, their storage, and the entire winemaking process. The wines themselves were also amazing. Our host was very knowledgeable and made the tasting one of my favorites while in Napa.

Google
The winery was beautiful, the wine tasted great, and the front staff and tour guide were all really lovely. However, my experience with their customer service left me with a sour taste in my mouth. I don't normally write reviews, good or bad, but this is the one exception. If you are a quote "family winery" and take pride in the product you make, then I would expect that extends to treating your customers with pride, dignity and respect. I did a wine tasting and tour of the winery with my mom and grandmother who were visiting from Chicago. Although the wines are expensive, I decided to order a 6-pack of assorted wines to be shipped to my mom's home in the Midwest. I thought it was worth the hefty price tag so my mom had the opportunity to indulge in these wines herself and share her great experience by gifting the wines to her close friends. We were told the delivery would be easy and speedy. However, what my mom received instead was a box soaked with wine, with the most expensive bottle broken at the neck, the rest of the bottles soaked and their labels ruined, and the box itself seemingly taped up in an attempt to fix it. We were obviously devastated - it would be an embarrassment to gift these bottles to anyone. I contacted the winery about the delivery and well, their response made it quite clear to me how much I was valued as a customer. I was told that this was quite the "rare occurrence" and my 3 options were to 1) send the wine back and get a new set, 2) keep the current wine and buy more for a whole 30% discount, or 3) return everything and get a full refund. If this is such a rare occurrence, then I expect the winery to take full responsibility for the faulty and honestly embarrassing delivery and go out of their way to compensate the customer. Instead, what I got was "too bad for you, we're actually going to spend even more money to make sure we salvage the remaining wine, and oh, would you like to buy more?" As a winery who boasted about the thousands of bottles of wine they make every year and serving an array of presidents, I really didn't expect them to be saving pennies on customers. The least I would expect in a scenario like this is a "we're so sorry, wine's on us, and here's further options." As much as I was ready to boast about this place and bring other family members and friends back for a visit, I would recommend you save your time and money and go elsewhere, where a "family" winery may actually still have some genuine family beliefs and much more respect for their customers than this place. TLDR; if you want to feel dehumanized, then this place is for you!

Yelp
The cave tour with tastings was fantastic! The staff were super friendly, and the history of the property and family and wine is super interesting. I previously had no idea it was served at the White House state dinners several times over. The caves and processes that take place in the caves like hand turning the bottles and how they are stacked is remarkable. The wines themselves are delicious too!

Yelp
You can never go wrong here with their fantastic sparking wine! They are renowned for a reason. That reason being their sparking wines can absolutely compete with champagne. Once you taste their blanc to blanc you will understand. My personal favorite was the blanc de noirs. I enjoyed every single sparking wine I tasted as most were refreshing and crisp! Not overly sweet thank goodness. We enjoyed our tasting on their lovely patio which was covered by a generous amount of foliage, perfect for a hot day. The entire staff was kind, welcoming, and knowledgeable. Learning about the history made the tasting experience that more enjoyable!

Yelp
Bubbles in the morning! Best way to start your day! We enjoyed a tour of the caves and then after a little walk got to tasting some of the current winery exclusive sparklings. After our tasting we went back to the shop and were able to taste a few more which we ended up buying. I felt a little rushed tasting in the cave, but once in the shop, I felt I could slow down and really taste and figure out which were my favorites to take home and enjoy. Fun way to start your day!

Yelp
The fourth winery on our Napa Valley wine tour this summer found us embarking on the first proper wine cave tour of our trip, Schramsberg, located up in Calistoga. Having been around since the 1860s, Schramsberg's caves were excavated with pick axes, and you can see the marks they made to this very day. Fortunately, their caves have held up incredibly well for more than 160 years where they store rows upon rows of exquisite sparkling wine. I felt a little like Charlie walking into Wonka's chocolate factory when the double arched doors opened and we entered the cave. T was an amazing guide who took us through the passageways that stored the sparkling wine aging in the bottles, stacked like jenga rows. It was pretty neat. As we went deeper into the caves, we discovered this moss like substance that had been forming for a while on the ceiling and along the sides of the cave that T described as lichen and said had many positive qualities such as indicating the quality of good air. They looked like spider webs that spiders in Australia spun. But we were told it is quite harmless as T specifies, the more lichen, the cleaner the air. We saw some very old casks that were apparently lost in a bet then won back the same way. We were shown how they get the yeast out of the bottle through a process called riddling. Then we had our cave tasting, which was magical as we had some cool reserve sparkling wines that Schramsberg only hold exclusively to the tasting room and don't distribute. Naturally, I bought a wine club membership. Schramsberg was definitely my favorite winery to tour and experience on my trip to Napa Valley.

Yelp
Our party had a lovely time here. They have such a lovely spot hidden away off the main pass. There are cats on the property to control the pests in case you have allergies just keep your distance. It was amazing walking down into the tunnels that were dug out over a century ago. The history and ambiance inside was amazing. I felt as if I was in Meatloaf's music video "I Would Do Anything For Love, but I Won't Do That". Candles, lighting, even webbing (and your tour guide will give you the trivia on that). The tasting was lovely and fun to do. My group was so happy we went.

Yelp
Founded in 1863 by Jacob Schramburg made his home then his winery on Diamond Mountain. This winery has a great history hosting British royalty and US presidents. We were part of a private cave tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable. Took us through the caves and the wine making process and shared moments in history. Even how a game of poker played out. We ended in a wine tasting room, pretty fancy. The charcuterie was top shelf. Cheese was paired with the wine. Additionally had Spanish Marcona almonds, dried apricots and cherries. My favorite pairings were: Caminate del Cielo Noirs with Le Secret de Compostelle, amazing cheese. Jaime Estate Cabernet with Prairie Breeze Cheddar. Not really a cab drinker but loved this. This is the best wine tasting ever!

Yelp
We have been to Napa many times over the last 20 years. We have had Schramsberg many times but finally went and did a tasting. The experience was not great. Very transactional, it felt rushed and we ended early. Would not recommend as there are many others to try. We usually buy many bottles and we walked out without anything because the experience was so off putting.

Yelp
3 years going to Napa Valley and this was the most unique winery and one of the best tasting on my top three. Here's why - the mountain setting and secret chambers of their wine creation process, the extraordinary quality and taste of the sparkling wines, and the scientific process shared with the group of how the wine was made. You can't beat this process put together. We visited this winery to fulfill our Sparkling Saturday trip and it was such a win. My favorite bottles has to be the 2019 Skywalker Blanc De Noirs and the Brut Rose (which are the final wine bottles on the tasting roster). Crisp, bubbly, some tint of fun grasp, and some sweetness to add. What makes the wine unique here is their filtration process and extra efforts to level the yeast for removal. And some bottles with limited bubbles help reduce the chances of harsh hangovers. I can see why this winery is many known figureheads' favorites. Going through the wine cellar in the mountains was such a cool experience to witness the creation process head on. The very first winery in the Calistoga region nonetheless. Keep in mind there will be an extra car ride up in this mountain to get to the wine cellar. If you're able to book more than one hour for a tasting, defintely do so. We had too much fun here and certainly wasn't ready for it to end. Happy to finally cross off this winery on our bucketlist that has been on for a long time.

Yelp
First stop on our wine tasting holiday was at Schramsberg! I've been a huge fan of their sparkling wine for some time now, so it was fitting to make this our first tasting! We chose the cave tour, guided by Jesus, who is a wealth of all aspects of Schramsberg, the history, the many vineyards, the cave, and the complicated process of making their wines. The cave tour was so interesting with the yeast still hanging from the ceiling, the unending bottles in their many stages toward the final product. While still in the cave, Jesus arranged for a 5 sparkling wine tasting and I honestly loved all of them! The grounds were absolutely beautiful. All of the staff we encountered were top notch and experts in their products. Such a great learning experience and can't wait to return. And yes, I joined my first wine club!!! (Still no camera)

Yelp
Our hostess was so knowledge about the process of making sparkling wines. We tasted five different selections and ended up purchasing six bottles. The cave is a must see and learning how they age the wines. Highly recommend.

Yelp
To Sparkle you have to start dark and cool. After many years in a cave and multiple processes it emerges as a fine, sparkling wine. For a science nerd like me and a girl that likes spelunking this was a must do tour. Unfortunately I don't like the bubbly so I can't really rate the wine. The property was beautiful and was almost destroyed by the fires so I loved the display thanking the firefighters. Everyone was super nice and it was fun. And did I mention the cave holds 4 million bottles

Yelp
This was a mixed experience for me. We did the cave tour in October 2024. This is very much a functioning vineyard- with forklifts and industrial equipment immediately adjacent to the lobby for the cave tour entrance. Mr. T was our guide and his presentation was delivered SO rapidly and felt so overly performative it was completely off-putting. My husband and I looked at each other in bewilderment before we had even made it through the lobby and into the cave. The tasting experience was at the end of the tour, and that's where things turned around. Mr. T dropped the script and once he was conversational, the entire experience shifted. The sparkling wines are quite good and we bought several bottles. Overall, I'd say the wines are great but the cave tour left a lot to be desired.

Yelp
Touring the wine caves here was such an exciting experience. The place is filled with so much history. They provided an amazing tasting experience. All of the wines were truly incredible. Some of the best sparkling wines you can find. They paired it with delicious local cheeses. A true gem.

Yelp
Out of all of the wineries on my birthday tour this is the one I was looking forward to the most because I'm such of fan of sparkling wine, period. We were a few minutes late to our guided cave tour and our tour guide was super anxious to get us started, which we later realized is because he had somewhere else to be because he bolted out of the parking lot before we left the tasting room haha. Anywho, the tour was amazing seeing the countless amounts of wine stacked up around the caves. The tasting took place in an enclave that didn't have bottles and was lit by candles. It had limited seating, but most of our group was ok with standing, I however took the seat. We didn't get to truly savor everything since our host powered through it all. I loved all the wines, sadly we didn't purchase any since it was a bit out of my price range and 3 out of the 5 you can only purchase on property, so even more reason to come back. I appreciated the history and care the wine makers have. I will be back! My wine score is based solely for my palette which favors whites and light reds. Rating is based on how much I enjoyed the tasting overall. 9/10 Ambiance 9/10 Customer service 6/10

Yelp
You can smell and see the history of this renowned sparkling wine maker with a tour of their caves. We were fortunate enough to come through during a very busy time and observe various methods used for riddling. Located in a very quiet area north of St Helena, you will need to navigate a rather narrow, but impressive driveway to this Vineyard. Scars from the 2020 fires can still be seen on the hills and demonstrates how lucky many were in this area to escape with their lives, homes, businesses, etc. A salute to the firefighters, from the owners, is prominent at the entrance to the main building. Upon driving up to the understated entrance you can still see the family residence, a historic home that was constructed without nails over 150 years ago. After checking in with our concierge, we were able to spend a little time in the lobby and read about the history of this fine vineyard as a representative of the United States for many a White House state dinner. We toured the impressive caves that house approximately 3.5 million bottles of wine. This winemaker uses hand stacking methods that are a combination of art and physics. We proceeded to the tasting, which was done inside the cave, and included a wonderful varieties of blanc de blancs, rosé, and some of the higher end offerings. Our guide was exceptionally knowledgeable and made the tour a great deal of fun. The sparkling wines at this vineyard rival fine wines from France's Champagne region. The tastings were spectacular and definitely made us want to come back again for more! The wines can be purchased online, at the tasting room, and as part of a membership which offers a nice discount, and deals on wine shipments.

Yelp
Best sparkling wine in my Napa wine experience so far! But Service was just ok. Not very attentive, but at least I had good company to fill in the absence. Tastings underneath Beautiful trees. Thank you!

Yelp
When driving to the vineyard, the roads were very scenic. Once we arrived, it is a beautiful, modern day, country setting. We chose the Red and White Wine Cavern Tour. There are others, but this one grabbed me. Walking through the caves, I was admiring the thousands of wine bottles surrounding us. The red and white wines are delicious. I brought back home a sparkling white wine; 2019 Schramsberg blanc de noirs. Pretty much my favorite and will return again to try the other tours.

Yelp
My wife and I LOVE Schramsberg sparkling wines. We feel their sparkling wines are easily among the best in California - neck and neck with Domaine Carneros. However, on a recent tasting visit last week (7/22/24) we were quite disappointed with the experience. The tasting took place at the entrance to one of the cellars and consisted of extremely and comparatively small samples of five or six of their sparkling wines. Large glasses and maybe 1.5 oz of each wine. Granted, we would never expect a full pour but at every other house we've visited - Domaine Carneros, Mumm, Chandon, Gloria Ferrer and Iron Horse - the tasting pours were far more substantial, generally 4 oz. In fact, at Domaine Carneros the staff was delighted to bring pours of wines that were not part of our tasting flight choice, and again the amounts were enough to truly appreciate the wine. And, the tasting itself at Schramsberg was rather short in length. Yes, our host explained the wines well, but the whole experience lasted maybe 40 minutes before being ushered into the retail area. For $135 we simply expected a better experience. It was genuinely disappointing. Maybe Schramsberg hosts better experiences, but I advise checking before committing your dollars. By comparison, at Domaine Carneros our tasting was $110. All was not lost as we did buy a few bottles of their amazing Blanc de Noir, which we cannot get at home.

Dee Dee L.

Yelp
Beautiful vineyard, great story, knowledgeable staff and excellent sparkling wine. We showed up with no appointment and they were able to accommodate our visit. Our guide Tom was definitely a veteran in the business. A must visit.

Yelp
This winery is truly an experience. Not a traditional tasting hence the higher price point, but worth every penny. The tasting is in an underground cave where you taste some truly delicious bubbles. They review everything to how they store, create and bottle as well as some pretty cool history of the winery itself. It's a different experience and worth trying if you're in the area.
google avatar

Yelp
Schramsberg is truly something special and unique not just for the location but the pre-prohibition history of it as well. The winery is nestled into the hillside of Diamond Mountain where the caves are like no other that I've seen in the valley area. Many wineries have caves (for all sorts of reasons) but Schramsberg is one of the OGs in this area in that they were literally dug by hand and are still used for winemaking and storage to this day- millions of bottles line the walls and corridors and are active production (not just for show). They have not covered up the natural structure with gunite but have instead preserved it in a pretty natural state which gives an even great perspective of the history but also makes it a bit eerie. Go on the tour- it's well worth it. All wineries have some sort of history but this one, I would argue, is longer and more storied than most. The wines speak for themselves. Dare I say that these are some of the best sparklings at multiple price points that you can find. We are no strangers to their wines but recently did a tour & pairing on a recent visit that was a lot of fun. The wines were phenomenal and we were able to try to some truly special items, including from their still label, Davies, which has amazing reds. The road up can be exciting (if you're into single lane, windy, mountain roads) and the property is gorgeous. Well worth the time to visit if you like great sparklings, history, and even some great reds.

Yelp
I had very high hopes for Schramsberg as it was on my list for such a long time but I could never get a reservation so this time I made sure to plan way in advance. Sadly, it was a huge disappointment. I understand that things are expensive nowadays but we paid $340 (doesn't include tips) for a "Cave Tour & All Sparkling Tasting" for 4 people, and it was the worst tour and tasting I have ever experienced. The grounds are beautiful, and the cave is amazing but the tour and tasting felt SUPER rushed. We couldn't even enjoy the bubbly as the staff started to clean around us and letting us know that "they are closing in 30 minutes". Everyone else in our group just left without finishing their wine. We did as well as we felt uncomfortable (they opened the door to our "private" room so we could hear all the noise and see a long line of people at the register). I know it used to be an amazing winery before but sadly we didn't get to experience that. It felt like a factory without any personal touch. There are so many fabulous wineries around, and we are the repeat customers to many of them so I don't plan on coming back to Schramsberg.

Chris T.

Yelp
We had another great trip to Schramsberg. We visited the weekend of 9/20. Schramsberg is our favorite spot in the Valley for early morning bubbles and the cave your just adds to the experience. When we arrived we were greeted by our wine educator Jeff Connelly and could not have enjoyed him more! He truly was the start of a great last day in the valley, full of energy and knowledge. Just know if you land Jeff as your educator he will keep you on your toes will giving you as much knowledge as he can about Schramsberg, wine and food options in the valley, and other great spots around town! We look forward to going back!

Yelp
Really enjoyed our wine cave tour and learned a lot about how bubbles are made. I loved getting an education about winemaking process in addition to learning about the wines and property. We tasted four sparkling wines and one red. Our tour started in the lobby area where our guide provided history of Schramsberg wines, the gentleman who started it, and how they served U.S. presidents as well as the queen of England. We then moved into the wine cave and we were shocked to see the number of bottles lining the walls. Some of the walls had wine bottles stacked 10 rows deep and 15/20 feet high. Our guide explained that much of the cave was dug using pick axes. By hand. You could see the ax marks on the ceiling. Speaking of the ceiling, there were thick hanging layers of mold hanging. But not to worry, it was evaluated by an expert who proved that it was actually an oxygen-producing mold and safe for visitors. During our cave tour we learned about how yeast and sugar are added to the sparkling wine to create the natural bubbles. We learned about the "riddling" process that entails turning the bottles so the yeast/sugar is moved. And then the disgorging process where the yeast/sugar mix ("lees") falls into the neck of the bottle and then the neck is frozen to capture the "lees" sediment for removal before corking. This was a really cool experience and I highly recommend it to those visiting the Napa Valley area.

Yelp
The tour was awesome! We loved learning about the history of the vineyard, hearing how they worked round the clock to combat the fires and the dedication of the Davies family. The tasting that followed the tour was top notch! We became members immediately and we cannot wait to go back for a visit!

Yelp
What a beautiful tour. I was blown away by the size and content of the winery! Our host was amazing!
google avatar

Yelp
Informative, entertaining, and delicious. Did you know that Schramsberg is the official White House sparkling wine? Did you know they have to manually turn their J.Schram bottles to yield the optimal bubble to body ratio? These are only a few of the fun facts learned from this tour. Such a joy to walk around the caves and learn about sparkling wine. Definitely need to check them out!!!

Yelp
We had a terrific time with our host. He was very smart and friendly. Mr. "T" which made me laugh because I am an eighties kid. Not too much pressure to buy or sign up for clubs, although I did buy some bottles. I wanted to return later in the year for my friend's bachelor party but was told that Schramsberg will not book them nor will they book large parties. I asked later if I bring colleagues and that seemed to be acceptable. What is the difference then? Are bachelors always wild? Are business people never wild? Sheesh

Guiseppe W.

Yelp
Best tour we've ever had. This is one of the original 5 vineyards in the area. Super informative tour. The wine is amazing too.

Yelp
This was a great experience. The cave is the best I've seen in Napa by far. The tour guide was very educated and was happy to answer any questions. My friend and I were in a small group of 3 couples and after the tour, we all had individual wine and cheese pairings. Everything was well worth the price of $135 per person and I would absolutely come again.

Yelp
the long winding road to get here after the schramsberg sign is only half a mile long. It was narrow but it had such nice scenery in the rain. There is a lot of parking near the visitor center. The owners have a german shepherd that wanders the grounds and lola the cat hangs out in the visitor center. the family that owns the place lives on the grounds. We were able to see them before our tour. When we checked in the lady who Signed us in was friendly. our tour guide was Mr. T. We started right on time. He gave us a little history and walked us through the cave educating us on how sparkling wine is made and stored. he was knowledgeable and Easy to talk to. He even offered to take pics for the people on the tour. After the cave we came back to the retail center to taste wine. There were five glasses and he talked about each wine while pouring each one. he then asked if anyone wanted to order anything. they don't usually give samples of the cremant but he let us taste it. it was sweet and creamy which was interesting. we bought a bottle of rose. I enjoyed the tour and have a new appreciation for the sparkling wine making process. my husband who doesn't usually like sparkling wines loved all of the wine.

Yelp
4.5 stars. Was a reasonably priced and impressive cave tour and tasting. Allow extra time to make it up the narrow driveway. Our guide (Tom or Bill?) was extremely knowledgeable and engaging. Interestingly, our group liked the current releases more than the reserve bottles, so keep that in mind when reading this review! Overall, met expectations.

Yelp
Beautiful cellars - reviewers aren't wrong, possibly the best in the area. Fascinating history, and great wines. Pairing of cheese at the end felt very rushed, but tour guide was great regardless.

Yelp
Good, pretty property. A little expensive. Try to go in the morning before everyone is drunk and cranky.

Yelp
I've let way too much time pass without Yelping about the wonderful Schramsberg caves and sparkling wines. We've always loved Schramsberg sparkly's, and hung out in the Cellar Club for years before getting into the Riddler's Circle years ago, with access to absolutely fabulous older and late disgorged selections. We've joined and later left more wine clubs than I can remember, but Schramsberg is forever. It's so worth the ~3 year wait to join. A visit to Schramsberg is a delight, and we've returned multiple times, just to enjoy the caves. It is a bit of a treacherous drive up, the road has been a bit washed out, the recent fires didn't help any, and encountering a UPS truck on its way down as we were going up on the last trip is not something I would care to experience often. But once there, the visit makes it so worth while. Many Napa and Sonoma wineries boast of, and have tours of, their caves. We've visited many, and few, if any, come anywhere close to the charm and magic of Shramsberg's caves. The ancient hand dug sections, lined with walls of aging bottles, some sections 40 rows deep with floor to ceiling bottles. Having to mask up during the tour makes it less enjoyable, but hopefully these Covid days will pass soon, and the experience will be as fully enjoyable and memorable as it should be.

Yelp
Just visited and did the cave experience and bubbles tour. We were to have an hour and 15 minute tour and 6 bubbles tasting. We were done and in the retail store in 45 minutes!!! Felt extremely rushed and disappointed as this was the one we were looking forward to the most!! Additionally we stood the whole time (no seating), and did not have time to finish each tasting before the next was poured. And no water! We had 2 people in our group join the wine club (bc they liked the wine beforehand) and still they did not waive any tasting fees or offer any discount. While the history of the property is amazing 5 out of 5 would not recommend or come back! They definitely lost additional sales.

Yelp
The caves tour is worth the indulgence. A must for any first timer. Anytime after, sipping bubbly underneath the canopy of trees nestled in the hillside is where it must be! Thanks to Jesus for the informative tour of the facility and it's family history. I look forward to our next visit of this delicious California producer of sparkling wine. If service and customer care are what you long to experience from this Napa great, then book a reservation and indulge. Lastly, their red wine is excellent. Rich in body and aroma. If you're looking for a French style red wine, you've found it. Earthy, minerally, but with the fruit forwardness only sun kissed California grapes know how to express. Cheers!

Yelp
Great products but the most unfriendly employee's of any winery that we have been to. There attitude was we just do not care that you are here.

Yelp
We visited this winery as the last group for the afternoon, our appointment was at 2:30 and a tour of the caves is part of your visit. The process they use to make bubbles is outstanding, so much care and attention to detail. Who knew vineyards still process wine by hand? The blanc de noir and the rosé were probably my favorites of the entire tasting. The champagne was so smooth, yes I know I can't technically call it champagne since it's not produced in France, but whatever. I digress, the sparkling wine here is absolutely fantastic! Did you know that every American president since Nixon has toasted with the Schramsberg wine?! How amazing, and after tasting it I know why. Fan for life! Check them out when you come to Napa, and unless you know someone, be sure to book your appointment early because they stay full.

Yelp
Just did the cave tour with Suzanne! She knows her stuff! Such a fun experience and unlike anything I've ever experienced before! Got to see their stacking and try 5 sparkling wines. So cool to learn the history! Would highly recommend!

Yelp
Had a wonderful experience at Schramberg Vineyard! Our host was very attentive, informative and entertaining. Due to Covid wine tasting is outdoor with the socially distance table and hand sanitizer available throughout the vineyard. Unfortunately, their famous cave tour is temporarily closed. We had a excellent experience and we came home with a bottle of sparkling white wine and a bottle of Chardonnay. We also took advantage of my friends wine membership which gave us a 15% discount .. and that's a great deal!

Yelp
Ask for Pat! Amazing host to fabulous bubbly wines. She kept us entertained and we had such a great experience. The wines were so unique compared to the other local wineries. It was so good, we sure did get a membership. Worth the trip and the tasting price

Yelp
Finally made it here. And it did not disappoint. For some reason I was expecting a commercialized winery like V. Sattui but it's nothing like that at all. Such a beautiful estate and driving path to the tasting area. Met the owner who also lives on site. Enjoyed our host and the tastings. Wasn't crowded at all and enjoyed the 1 to 1 attention. Peaceful setting.

Yelp
What a gorgeous property! Are usually test bubbles with Lisa, however our most recent tasting experience with Michael. This is someone who always makes me feel very comfortable, remembers my name, asks me about my daughter, just a very professional hostess. Having never met Michael, I didn't know what to expect. He took us on a tour of the cave which was amazing of course. If you get the opportunity I highly recommend dipping into the cool dark cave on a hot nap a day. The amount of champagne waiting for you inside is tremendous! These pictures do not do it justice. Michael was funny, knowledgeable, and a very nice host. We enjoyed our time with him greatly. The winds were delicious and I found a new love of late disgorged bubbles. Definitely try the late discorged if you get the opportunity! You will not be disappointed

Yelp
What a wonderful experience! The Cave Tour With All Sparkling Wine Tasting was fantastic. The wines were delicious and our host was a delight! We were placed with three other couples for our tour, and we loved sharing the tour with a group. This was one of our favorite experiences of our week in Sonoma/Napa!

Yelp
First timers, from L.A., we loved our time at Schramsberg! We tasted in the stunning outdoor grove area with Mike, who was knowledgable and personable. Excellent sparking wines, all of them!
