With so many great Italian restaurants in the area, I was blown away at how good Scolapasta is and why it wasn't packed on the night I was there! This place surely is in my Top 5 now of Italian restaurants in town as I loved the cozy ambiance and attentive service not to mention the food!
We came early on a weeknight and had our choice of tables. Since we were celebrating a birthday, I was thrilled that they let the birthday boy pick where he wanted to sit so we had a great table by the window (looks out at the parking lot, but hey, it's a window!)
Our server,Raul was over in a flash. He was very knowledgeable about not only the menu and the vast array of specials, but also took the time to find us the perfect bottle of wine to go with our dinner.
Since we love to taste a range of the menu when we go to a new restaurant, we knew that we were going to have a ton of leftovers as the portions are huge and we ordered enough for probably 6 people! But we got to taste a range of items which was the goal.
Our night started with a basket of bread which I usually ignore but these came with some of the best rolls served with olive oil. I had to seriously focus on talking so I wouldn't eat more than one!
We started with the octopus and the clams as starters. The octopus was probably the freshest and best cooked that I have had. Moist and meaty, it came over a bed of arugula with tomatoes and roasted potatoes. This in itself could have been my entree. The clams were equally as good.
For entrees, we tried a range of the pastas all of which are made in house and cooked perfectly al dente which is the way I love my pasta! I was in carb heaven! I had the seafood pasta as my entree which had so much seafood, I had to dig underneath it to find the pasta. It was very good.
The other pasta we had was the meatballs with penne pasta. Delicious! And we weren't done yet, as we also had the risotto of the day with shrimp and artichokes which was amazing!
And if that wasn't enough food, my friend also had the veal parmesan served with more pasta. This was perfectly prepared and large enough for 3 meals on it's own!
Just as we were thinking to ask for the bill, the restaurant sent over a couple of limoncellos. Just like being in Italy! And while we tried to eat the birthday tiramisu for dessert, we were both so full that we ended up taking most of that home as well.
Scolapasta exceeded our expectations for great Italian food served by a terrific staff. Can't wait to head back and see what else I can try! Oh- and those leftovers? Almost as good as when they came out of the kitchen!
