"Scoops has a big time cone game (dipped in chocolate and covered in Gummy Bears), but are they too one dimensional? Our analytics team says yes, and we don’t think this is Scoops’ year. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

"Waffles are ice cream's best friend, and Scoops knows this. Its waffle cones and bowls are made in house and come in a number of different flavors. The candy toppings are top-notch as well." - Naomi Waxman, Eater Staff

I would say I stumbled upon this gem of an ice cream place by fluke. Me and My wife were driving home on 31st street when we came across the signage "Scoops" with a softie cone as their business trademark. We parked the car which fortunately was free parking being a Sunday, we went in. Though the place looks a little unkempt and beat up from the outside but don't judge a book by its cover. Once in, our server immediately greeted us with a smile and when we told her we are the first time visitors, she helped us pick a flavor by letting us sample a few before we picked up the coconut almond flavor in a special waffle cone which was just deliiccciioous. My wife ordered a Fat Elvis flavor and the was incredibly mouth watering!!! The service was prompt, dessert kept frozen on the top of the cone, a good portion and scrumptious to lick/ eat. The prices are reasonable with a kids riding horse and a computer based video gaming machine which operates with coins.if you are looking for a decent ice cream parlor to have a real nice dessert in and around Bridgeport/ Sox stadium you must visit Scoops ASAP! You can thank me later ;)

Recently moved to the neighborhood. Decided to give this place a try. There's a huge selection of ice cream flavors, many I've never tried before. The espresso Oreo ice cream was delicious and the homemade waffle cone made it even better. The worker behind the counter was kind and happy to serve us. I will 100% be back here. If you're looking for high quality ice cream with a laid back vibe, Scoops is where it's at.

Google
My favorite ice cream spot for the last ten years. Consistently delicious ice cream with that old school Bridgeport feel. However, my recent visit changed my views but it had nothing to do with the ice cream. Scoops added a hot take out grill: burgers, polish, nuggets, fries. (I didn't try it bc ice cream.) Because of this change tho, there is longer a public bathroom. I find that shocking for a place that caters to families and now does after school snacks. My son and I had to go on a bathroom safari before we could go back for our treats. Place was busy for the first day of school and they had one person working. She did a steady, solid job but a ten minute wait after a twenty minute detour made me grind my teeth. Oh, and single scoop in a fancy cone and 2 scoops in a cup cost around $15. I'll be back but it will continue to be infrequently and everyone will have to take a prophylactic pee beforehand.

I visited this establishment around 3pm on June 26, 2022 along with 3 of my co-workers. After lunch, we decided on dessert so we stopped in. First, I'd like to say that the young man serving the ice-cream was VERY KIND and HELPFUL. Some of us have never been here before so he ensured that we got to taste the flavors that we were interested in. Thank you, sir. As for the woman working the register, VERY RUDE! Our supervisor was treating us, but couldn't decide on what she wanted. To prevent a line, she tells the cashier "can you just start their order until I figure out what i want " to which the cashier replies, "i can't scoop anything until everything is paid for". This lady rushed us the ENTIRE time. In fact, when she found out our supervisor was paying for our desserts, she said,in a nasty tone, " I heard you were the one paying, what are you getting". Don't get me wrong, the ice cream was DELICIOUS, BUT with her attitude I'd never go back. Everyone deserves fair customer service.

Google
My favorite flavor is the " It Just Got Serious"..it's actually my favorite ice cream flavor ever. I dont think it's overpriced as ice cream from mom and pop shops usually costs more. And luckily they don't do the cash only thing anymore. Also, this young rude lady everyone is speaking of...I have never encountered her, I usually get a sweet older woman every time I go. Safe to say this is my #1 spot for a cold treat.

Google
This ice cream is fresh and delicious! I splurged on a dipped cone with a healthy scoop of bourbon pecan (yes, with actual bourbon in it!). My hubby went with Yippee Skippy since he's a PB fan, and my brother wanted sugar free and loved the cashew caramel. Perfect treat on a warm, breezy evening.🍦😍

Google
The ice cream is good but when we asked the women serving I'd they had any cones without peanuts for our two year old, she told us everything had peanuts in a rude tone, so just beware if you have a severe peanut allergy.

Ronda Tankson

Google
They don't treat all of their customers equally. Some are made to pay before they've even made an ice cream selection. Shaun-Michelle's Ice Cream in Bronzeville is better any way, and they treat all customers with respect regardless of color. I was a customer in the past but a good friend and her children were mistreated recently, so I never will spend money here again. One star is too many for this establishment.

Yelp
Had a great cheeseburger fries and a ice cream sandwich and the best funnel cake sundae I ever had !!! Delicious

Janea V.

Yelp
I scream for ice cream! I live near Scoops and nothing screams summer more than soft serve so I decided to give it a try! This was one of the richest, creamiest soft serve I have ever had with a nice smooth vanilla taste. I decided to give it a try with one of their Trix and chocolate waffle cones. This was a good choice! The Trix/chocolate cone really set off my ice cream experience and satisfied my sweet tooth. It is a quick take away place with good ice cream! Recommend giving them a try!

Alethea P.

Yelp
Seemed like a cute little shop. I was unimpressed with the food and prices. The size of the fries with the meal was of a kid meal. The nachos however was a hefty portion. The baby cone was about the size of my thumb and shouldn't have been $2.50. Hand sanitizer in the store for customers would be a good ad on.

Osiris R.

Yelp
Came across this place while exploring this side of town. Nice little shop with outdoor seating. We tried a scoop of bourbon pecan and one of cappuccino. Both were so good and sweet. One big scoop is more than enough here! Check them out !

John R.

Yelp
I brought my kids here today and as we were picking out which ice cream they wanted when another family came in after us and went up to the counter and started ordering. When I said excuse me but we were hear first the girl behind the counter ignored us. Now the family has hat jumped in front of us wasn't ready to order. They went down the line trying to figure out what they wanted. When I said something again I was ignored. We left and will never go back. We've been coming here since it opened and service has never been great but it has never been this bad. This place is WAY to overpriced to deal with the consistent bad service. Go to Baskin Robbins and you'd be better off.

Paul R T J.

Yelp
Showed up again and they closed early. I guess it's better than interacting with woman unhappy about having to work there. Such is life-it used to be a good place but that was the past. Go elsewhere

Patrise W.

Yelp
Very bad customer service. Spend your money where you are welcome. They have policies that only seem to apply to certain folks. Be sure to read through the reviews. If 1 or 2 people say the same thing, there's a possibility that it's not true. However, if you have several people saying the same thing, then there has to be some validity. I will not be recommending any officers I work with over here to spend money. The ice cream was really good, but I'll find another place.

L J.

Yelp
Was craving some ice cream and Scoops was the nearest place to me. Very disappointed though, because I ended up leaving without it. A lot of the ice cream was either freezer burnt, melted and the refrozen, or didnt look appetizing. I even saw a gnat in one of the Italian ice tubs. I still wanted ice cream though, so I opted for a prepackaged oreo ice cream sandwich and fried Oreos. Both were underwhelming and I definitely wouldn't go back.

GlasshouseInterior C.

Yelp
Ice cream is great, staff is not friendly at all. You would think they would be pleasant at an ice cream shop.

Mike G.

Yelp
Went here once and never again. My parents and I came here and each got a small cone....nearly $20! Way too overpriced for ice cream

Jonathan K.

Yelp
Love the place. Prices are a little steep though. My son likes the slushes from here. I like the malts and shakes. No pics today sorry

Amanda G.

Yelp
This was my first time visiting Scoops. The employees were very nice. One of the cashiers offered a free taste of any flavor for being a first timer. I immediately was drawn by the funnel cake sundae. They are a small ice cream shop. They have amazing customer service! I highly recommend!

C M.

Yelp
Ice cream did not taste fresh. Tasted as if it had been sitting in an improperly functioning freezer. Entire decor is messy an outdated. Expensive and not worth it. Will not return.

Daniel F.

Yelp
This is a great local ice cream and treat place. There was such a big variety of flavors we definitely had difficulty choosing which one to try. Staff were super hospitable and really patient with us. There are a few seats outside which is really nice. Definitely when things warm up I'll be coming back

Jein P.

Yelp
A great family joint in Bridgeport! I came into scoops on a warm Sunday afternoon and it was quite the perfect day to enjoy ice cream and support a family-owned business. Everything is made in the house and I definitely taste a certain homeliness in the ice cream. I think I got something mint chocolate, but can't recall the exact name of the flavor. If you're going for quantity, I suggest you get a cup vs a cone because my single scoop was almost twice the size of my friends cone. Or maybe I just got lucky. The prices aren't that cheap. It's $4 for a single and $5 for a double. If you're on a budget, you could easily split a double with a friend, although I'm not sure who would want to share ice cream. Great quality, good service...support a local business!

Simon K.

Yelp
Excellent milkshakes. You can choose any of the hand dipped ice cream flavors to turn into a milkshake. Or get a classic chocolate shake with vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup.

Chloe T.

Yelp
This is a really cute little place. The ice cream was really good. I had the cotton candy. They have a big coffee menu, but I didn't get to try it. It's a great little neighborhood spot to take your kids if you have any. I liked that it was indoors, and the scoops of ice cream are a good size.

Rene D.

Yelp
The ice cream is delicious. However, the customer service and prices are not great. One particular employee (a short, dark haired, young woman) does not feel comfortable interacting with people of color). The first time I went in there a lovely older woman greeted me and she was very kind and friendly. During my second visit, today, at around 3:00 PM, me and my mother walked in the store and the young woman acted as if we were invisible. I had just finished telling my mother about how wonderful the customer service was when we were ignored... and we were the only customers in the store at the time.. When I explained to the young woman that I was used to being treated so friendly thershe told me that I was the one that looked at her funny. I have no idea what she's talking about. Later, I decided to contact the owner and explain to him how I loved the ice cream but was disappointed by the customer service. The same young woman answered the phone and told me the owner was not there and that she had no way of me contacting him. Then she hung up. When I tried to call back, the call went to voicemail. Please work on treating ALL visitors as valuable customers, especially when they are spending money at your business.

Jessica M.

Yelp
CASH ONLY! I'm going to be blunt. My taste buds do not know what is considered gourmet ice cream. I can eat and enjoy ice cream whenever and wherever as long as it's chilled and flavored. Scoops has at least 15 flavors to choose from. My friend had a scoop of key lime pie on a non-sugar cone, whereas I had the kitty kitty bang bang on a sugar cone. The total came to $7. Steep, you say? Indeed.

Shawnka R.

Yelp
PRICEY OMGGG one scoop of banana icecream & one scoop of pistachio ... total was 11.02 Am i missing something here ??? I'm sitting here in confusion Wouldn't come again tbh nothing special

David G.

Yelp
My turtle sundae was tall and sweet and very tasty and it looked so good that the lady behind the counter took a photo of me and my sundae and posted it to the store's Facebook page.

Jessica R.

Yelp
I will never come and spend money here again. The older woman taking care of customers was so rude. It was my first time here with my family and we trying to look at the menu and she Was just rushing us and seemed annoyed at our questions. If you have a job in customer service treat your customers the way you want to be treated when you go out. There was another customer after us that was complaining about how rude she was! I really hope that wasn't the owner. They need better staff

Douglas Y.

Yelp
This is a great place to grab ice cream on a hot summer day. I got a large ice cream (2 scoops) of chocolate marshmallow and espresso Oreo. Both were delicious. The chocolate marshmallow had a perfect mix of richness from the chocolate and light creaminess of marshmallow. The expresso Oreo maintained the coffee/expresso flavor with chunks of Oreo mixed in. Inside is clean and very cool, the air conditioning is great and very comfortable. The service was great and they were very nice with giving out samples. Their ice cream selection was great with all the standard flavors with plenty of more unique flavors to choose from. Unfortunately their prices are more on the expensive side. Also be warned it is cash only.

Elizabeth S.

Yelp
Cash only and BAD customer service! The lady was very rude when I asked her to add cream and sugar to just one of the two coffees I purchased. She rudely said, "I just need to know which one needs cream." I then asked about the sugar and she said "look behind". The prices are very high so I at least expected good service. Definitely not going back!

Happiness L.

Yelp
Love this place. A friend recommended I go here. I ordered the raspberry with chocolate and had it on a chocolate toffee cone. Wow! It was beyond incredible.

Michael S.

Yelp
A delightful neighborhood ice cream parlor!! Rarely would I suggest the South Side has anything on the North Side. But the North Side ain't got nothin' on Scoops. Yes, we have Sweet Occassions, but that's just one establishment. We need more like Scoops. I am a Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup whore. OOOOh yeah, baby. It was delightful.

Damian P.

Yelp
Okay, I just left a wake down the bock and passed by Scoops. Now you know this is a Very dangerous place once you've made the decision of weight loss. But who cares! Once in a while you have to treat yourself to a nice ice cream. And I did just that. I loved the fact that it seems like they have it all (except business cards). Any who, I had a cup made out of chocolate chip cookie dough with 2 scoops of pistachio and praline ice cream. Now the ice cream was heaven, but the cookie, mehhh! I really was disappointed in. But that was not enough to give a lower star score because the girl behind the counter let me sample all the ones I wanted before I made up my mind. But I only sampled two, now had she said, sample the cookie, that would of been the clincher for me not to choose the cookie cup. It is a nice place to visit if you are in Bridgeport and I could see how in summer this place may get crowded. It was a rainy night and I was the only one there. I didn't mind though because the counter girl and I just spoke so much about Ice Cream stops in Chicago. That was fun. Stop by and get your scoop or scoops of ice cream and sit either outside or just chill inside, either way, you will enjoy it for sure. Not at all expensive and I will be back.

Andres D.

Yelp
I am a fan is right, 32 flavors of tasteful bliss in Bridgeport. I tried the heaps of love (creamy vanilla, chocolate, caramel, brownies, oreos, pecans, cookie dough) mixed with Praline Peacon (brown sugar, maple flavoring, caramel, candy coated pecans). These two combinations did not even last the ride home...yum! I thought the outdoor patio was a nice touch as many others have reviewed, cozy wifi access while taking in the summer breeze. If you are un-sure of what the ice cream may taste like Scoops will be glad to give you a little taste test before you buy.

Bianca R.

Yelp
Update your hours! Came here for nothing. No indication that they were closed. Update your yelp page or something

Chris G.

Yelp
Superman! I'm a sucker for that yummy rainbow in my mouf! This is my neighborhood ice cream joint and everyone knows what's up. Lots of gourmet flavors to sample, courtesy of the friendly staff. Make sure to take a nice long stroll after securing your chilled ambrosia and enjoy the local mellow that is Bridgeport.

Elizabeth F.

Yelp
Scoops, you are one of the many reasons I enjoy my gym membership so much. As the sign near the door clearly states, "We accept cash only. Want nutrition? Eat carrots." I love your chocolate ANYTHING. Your milk shake was so good I got a tummy ache. Zanzibar chocolate ice cream? Insane. Oreo cream ice cream? Creamy-dreamy.

Naeemah M.

Yelp
Like the fact it's a nice ice team shop on the south side!!! A bit pricy but hey it's not as expensive as rainbow cone who is so overrated..

Michele B.

Yelp
So sorry if you have gotton my previous review. I had a mix up with resturants. Schoops and Scoops they are both great places to wet your whistles. You will love both places. So sorry. Burgers and I cream you cant go wrong.

Patti L.

Yelp
Expensive!!! 1 scoop of ice cream is $3.75. And if you want a chocolate dipped sugar cone, it's an additional $1.25. So is a $5.00 ice cream worth it?? Debating!! But the Zanzibar ice cream is good.

Aaron S.

Yelp
They know me here as "The Malt Man". I've tasted pretty much every ice cream they've got here, and almost half of their flavors have been selected by me to hit the blender with some milk and malt powder and a dollop of whipped cream to cap it off. The place serves shakes and malts for THE SAME PRICE - how can I not go for the malt option? (Though they've recently upped those prices by 50 cents...) Yes, they've got some delicious ice creams that would function just perfectly in a waffle cone, chocolate-dipped waffle cone, or even parked on a banana or slice of pound cake with some luscious toppings. But I'm the freakin' Malt Man, so I have no choice! Some of the best malts I've had here may sound gross, but they truly are heaven. The Zanzibar Malt was a little too rich and cocoa-y for my tastes, though the malt helped it go down. I have to say that the Pumpkin Pie Malt made for a delicious gastronomical experiment, though I preferred the Dark Chocolate Cherry Truffle (I forget the exact name) when that was in stock. The Apple Pie Malt was quite good as well, though not as sweet as I was hoping for to balance the malt powder and still be apple-y. Basically any "pie"-type ice cream makes for a wonderful Malt. Also great is anything containing marshmallow - which automatically has the sweetness to pair well with the malt powder. The best one of all? Another seasonal flavor, and my first visit to Scoops - the Key Lime Pie Malt. Turn up your nose if you must, but the next time you're at this palce and you feel like having a thick, rich milkshake . . . take a dive and tell 'em to toss in the malt powder. You'll thank me later...

Gil N.

Yelp
Mmm...I love ice cream. Scoops is pretty much your run of the mill ice cream shop, except that they sell Cannolis, and popcorn. Oh and cotton candy. Anyway, I've only had ice cream there, and they make a hell of a sundae. However, I could see kids absolutely loving this place. They've got a coin operated horse, and all of the previously mentioned temptations. Good service, a bit on the pricey side, but a great place to get some dessert on on the South Side.

Lisa L.

Yelp
Horchata ice cream - that's all you need to know! If you don't see it in the cooler, ask about it any way; last time I went in for some they didn't have it out but they still had some to sell. I felt so top secret about the whole thing! Only complaint? A little overpriced, but all the flavors that I've had there so far have been worth it.

Charlotte O.

Yelp
I am convinced that the Oreo Espresso ice cream in a chocolate dipped waffle cone with chocolate sprinkles on it, is the best cure for a bad day. Seriously try it yourself, when you have had "One of those days" just hop into Scoops and order the above mentioned treat, and everything will feel right with the world again. (Also the chocolate dipped waffle cone with Oreo crumbs works just as good if they are out of the one with chocolate sprinkles) It is also one of my favorite ways to end one of our date nights!

Liang H.

Yelp
I love Scoops! The Italian ice is so good here and the teenagers working always serve it up with a smile. I have also had a chocolate and almond and coconut ice cream cone here and it is absolutely delicious. I like the quarter motorized horse stand they have for kids to ride on. They also offer seating and outdoor seating in the winter time. The flavors get rotated out. Nice solid staple in the Bridgeport area.

Sandy R.

Yelp
I'm doing laundry. For some reason I brought my laptop. Of course there's no unsecured wireless networks around here. I'm about to freak out due to the long waiting time for my laundry to dry, and I see an ice cream place across the street with a sign that clearly says "Free WiFi!" I check the dry time, which is about 45 minutes, and run across the street to Scoops. They have so many flavors, and reminds me of this place I used to go to very often in Philadelphia. The peppermint ice cream was delicious when they had it, but my newest favorite is Horchata. I didn't know it was physically possible to make Horchata ice cream, considering that the drink is primarily water, but it is the best thing I have ever had. Their waffle cones are also rolled fresh everyday (I can smell it when I walk in), and the woman who is behind the counter everytime I am there has a big, welcoming smile on her face. I love this place, it makes me want to do laundry more often so I can get some ice cream.

Hope Z.

Yelp
I love the creative ice creams at this place. In a world of customized Cold stone ice creams, Scoops fights back with yummy combos and great portions. You can get your ice cream topped on a pop rocks waffle cone at that! Try the Fat Elvis or Halleys comet ice cream.

Michael R.

Yelp
I have a real hard time rating any neighborhood ice cream shop bad. However, when you work in an ice cream shop and you are a complete asshole, something doesn't add up. It's like working at Disneyland and hating kids. It makes no sense. Anyways, my other pet peeve is that all of a sudden, they don't take credit anymore and now they are cash only. I came last season and they were still credit. The ice cream flavors are OK. They have about 32 different flavors. Frozen bananas, lumpinis, etc. With the rude staff that I have experienced lately I can really go get ice cream anywhere else.

Nida K.

Yelp
This place is cool, really cool. They make their own cones and dip them in very yummy goodness! A few things: the ice cream was very good. There is only one 'no sugar added' option, which in today's health conscious world, it would be nice to have a few more options. Also, the thing I hate the most about this place is... they don't take credit cards! Really? Dude, food trucks take credit cards, shoot I wouldn't be surprised if some homeless people take credit cards - but nope, not Scoops Ice Cream! They are throwing away business with all the people that only use credit cards. We got 2 cones and a scoop of ice cream each and the total was... $13! Yup - a bit on the pricey side. I might go back, but not sure, we'll see.

Rhee M.

Yelp
They completely ignored a customer of color. This sort of business practice is not acceptable, I know I will never set foot in there again.

Matt F.

Yelp
Scoops is a great neighborhood shop to pick up a cone or grab a shake. My wife and I each got single scoops of ice cream in a waffle cone. Each cost a bit over $5, but there was a lot of ice cream in each of them. I'm not sure that I could have finished the double scoop cone. I got the Mocha Oreo flavor, and even though it was approaching the bottom of the bucket, the quality of ice cream was still there. There wasn't any freezer-burn or ice crystals built up at all, which is more than I can say about some other ice cream places that I've been to. The lady behind the counter (I assume she is also the owner) was very polite to us and encouraged us to try something before we committed to a full order. Be aware that this is a cash-only establishment, but they have an ATM onsite if you need to grab some cash.

Washington Y.

Yelp
I love this place it's like you step back in time when you go here, it really minds of an old school ice parlor. It's very cozy and welcoming and the staff is very friendly.

Christine H.

Yelp
Oh how I want to give this place 4 stars! An independent ice cream shop (in a 'hood that lacks them) with outdoor seating that's open past 8:00 (and isn't a bar, which probably explains why my mid-20's self was the second oldest one there) AND has free wi-fi?...Ok, I never bring my laptop anywhere, but still. If the place's non-dairy selection is really no more varied than Baskin-Robbins, though, I can't give ya more than 3 stars. :-( Serve fruit sorbet and I'll give you 4! However, they did have watermelon Italian ice, which I didn't know existed (the other flavor was lemon, typical). The girls working there recommended I top the watermelon with sour patch kids (yes, PETA says those are Vegan). Mmmm. Sweet and fruity! Who knew? They also have smoothies, which I'll try on my next trip (if they're dairy-free). I also came here in the dead of winter (before I gave up dairy) and because there was no cafe in the immediate area, I bought hot chocolate. Needless to say, don't get hot chocolate from an ice cream joint. :-P I mean it was ok, but no thanks. If you're in the area on a hot day, stop in, especially if you're with your dairy-eating friends. They had a variety of flavors for them and apparently homemade spumoni.

Amy T.

Yelp
The ice cream is absolutely delicious ( I had the chocolate and mint mix). I stopped by after a bike trip so this was an absolute treat. While I ate this dessert, I was cooled inside out due to the environment and ice cream. They have a nice neighborhood touch due to the bulletin by the entrance. Another thing they feature is a wooden horse for kids at heart. For outdoor fans, there are outdoor seats on the sidewalk and on the ledge by the windows of the shop. One of the cons of this place is that you have to pay in cash.

Kathy L.

Yelp
HORRIBLE customer service. I went in to check out the store and asked the lady behind the counter simple questions as to what kind of cones they had and how big or small scoops were and she was super rude and unprofessional.
